December 2024: Unfortunately, due to recent structural damage from a fire, we are unable to take bookings at this time. While the timeline for rebuilding is uncertain, we are committed to restoring the venue and will keep our page updated with progress and future availability. We appreciate your patience and look forward to welcoming couples again once the barn is ready to host your special day.
The Stone Barn has been owned and operated by the Thomforde Family for four generations. In 1922, Charles Thomforde started a working farm, planted an apple orchard and kept honey bees. His son Harold started a catering service specializing in chicken barbecues in 1958. Harold and his wife Elinor saw how business grew and converted the old Barn structure (c.1800's) into a restaurant. In 1968, The Stone Barn opened its doors for guests to indulge in delicious cuisine and has watched many forever's start here!

We have heard so many compliments since our wedding on October 12, 2024! Gina was absolutely amazing and so helpful during every aspect of planning our special day, she truly loves her job and that shines through her generous spirit. Our guests raved over the delicious food and the beautiful atmosphere of The Stone Barn, and it definitely made our day so much more magical knowing that our guests were taken care of and we could relax and not worry about anything.
From start to finish Gina and her staff helped us and made the shower for my niece a day full of laughter and love. The food was excellent - the staff was attentive - the venue was perfect! Thank you for a magical day!
We had the most fabulous experience working with the Stone Barn for our wedding. From the initial tour, to the tasting, to the million questions I had over email, to the last minute weather-driven decision-making, to the set-up on day of and making sure all of the details were in line that evening, the venue team and especially Alex and Tiffany made our day more perfect than we could have ever hoped. The coordination was flawless. The venue was gorgeous, and the trees turn the most beautiful colors for the fall. The only critical feedback we have at all was that the sweet potatoes and brussel sprouts came out a little differently day-of than we had expected from the tasting, but everyone still enjoyed them and the rest of the food immensely! We got loads of compliments on the appetizers especially. They were very easy to work with and made it simple to incorporate unique things that made our wedding "ours", including planting a tree in a pot during the ceremony and having an ice cream truck on-site for dessert during the reception. We wanted an outdoor ceremony and we got it and it was perfect, and I was grateful that the back-up indoor option would have been lovely and cozy as well. I'd recommend the Stone Barn to a close friend or sibling who is interested in planning a medium-sized wedding with an outdoor ceremony option.
I wanted to love this venue and write an amazing review about how great my wedding day went. Unfortunately, there are details that make me feel like I’d rather have had rain to deal with on my day. Read the reviews is always sage advice, and I know each event is unique, so each experience will be different. Chelsea was certainly great and didn’t pressure for us to make a deposit. The venue space and outdoor ceremony offerings were what we were hoping. We were able to visit multiple times to ensure we were comfortable. She even helped with the COVID delay when things shutdown. She took the time to go over details to maintain our budget as this venue would either need DIY or vendors. I was saddened to learn she had left during the COVID shutdown as she felt party of the wedding party in her availability and willingness to answer all my questions. A far difference from the new day of coordinator that took over for my day. Upon arriving at the one hour rehearsal, we were told it would need to but cut short. We barely got through one walk down the aisle, as I spent more time telling her how I wanted the order and hearing “that’s not how it goes” than actually rehearsing. The two hour decor and setup was a strict 2hrs as she needed to again leave without anyone else being available. She didn’t offer to help unload the car, and the tables were laid out incorrectly. When discussing the correction she mentioned how rather large my groom’s party physically was and they wouldn’t be comfortable at the table desired. The day of the event the alcohol was never placed in the cooler and the tables were still not as discussed and needed to be corrected. Until my father and I were ready to walk outside I never even spoke to her directly nor did I speak with her until the end of the night. The cookies were never put out on display nor served. The flavors of the cake were never displayed. The food was amazing and just as our tasting. Our final numbers were 95 and we paid for an additional 2 vendor meals. However, even with 89 in actual attendance we ran out of food. A testament to how great the food is, but a disappointment as not everyone got a meal. The event promptly ended as the lights were up and tables were being cleared. In my photos you can catch shots of my parents packing up the decor during the reception vs dancing or speaking with guests. A timing that was not agreed up at the tasting nor during our original planning. We were told we would be able to clean up after our guests left or until 10am the next morning depending on our help’s availability. Everything was cleared that night, decor was ruined and even a card with a personal handwritten note was discarded. While on the plane to our honeymoon, I reached out to see if perhaps things were collected and set aside for us to pickup before 10am. The response was “If it was left behind on the fireplace, it may have been assumed to be garbage since it was not taken.” As we DIYed so much and hung up personal pictures around the fireplace this response hit hard. We were in such a rush to grab items while tables were being rolled out of the way. When going to speak about this, words barely came out as I was told “it’s not like you’re going to have another party here.” As our guests had such fun and the food was amazing, yes we were hoping to have our anniversaries there and even encourage others to have their event there. I hope others are more aware of the possibilities that COULD happen to them.
We sort of had an impromptu wedding brunch at the Stone Barn. Despite reaching out at the last minute, and constant (frantic) emails asking for clarification, Grace and her team treated us with so much love and care.
Yes, the Barn is beautiful, yes the food is amazing (all our guests were raving), but for us, the kindness and consideration shown to us by the staff was humbling.
Our three hour brunch went so smoothly! We had practically the entire space to ourselves, including a loft to change in. We were also given an extra hour ahead of time to set up. Staff were masked and vaccinated at our request, which was an extra special concession that they made for us. We are so appreciative of everyone at the Stone Barn for making our wedding so wonderful. We look forward to spending many anniversaries there.
My daughter was married there recently, and I must say, the outdoor venue was beautiful. The major problem was that one side of the room was served 45 minutes later than the other side, which delayed the dancing. We therefore sat for almost 2 hours before dancing began, and by then the photographer's contracted time had ended, so they left. They didn't serve the wedding cake and coffee to the tables, and failed to tell everyone that they placed it in another room. Literally half of the guests never had wedding cake. When I spoke with the manager in charge she said to me "What do you want me to do?" The next day I asked my daughter if she had the left over cake, and she told me that she was only given the piece that goes in the freezer. I left 2 messages for the owner to call me back, none of which were returned. BTW, the vegetarian dish (cauliflower) was fried, greasy and tasteless.
I have nothing but great things to say about this venue and its staff! Alex and Chelsea were by our side through all the planning and were extremely accommodating to our styles and preferences. They managed everything perfectly! From our planning stages to day of, I couldn't have picked better venue folks to work with. They were always available to chat and responded promptly to emails, and were super nice about us popping by the venue a few times to look around after we booked. On the day of, they took care of everything and were just so sweet. As a bride who was super stressed out with wedding planning in general, I was really thankful to have Alex and Chelsea making sure that everything went according to plan. If I had to do it all over again, I would still pick The Stone Barn not only because it was so spacious and beautiful there, but because the staff really made a big difference in how our entire wedding went. Thanks so much, guys! You rock!
I had the privilege to provide entertainment services for a wedding at The Stone Barn and they couldn't be easier to work with. Not every venue takes care of the outside vendors but the staff at The Stone Barn was amazing. When I called to schedule a site visit Alex was more than willing to spend some time with me going over the venue and how everything would work. She was also very accommodating when it came to me arriving early the day of the wedding to setup and do sound check. During the event she was on top of everything coordinating the formalities and making sure we were all on the same page. I guess it might be a little unusual for a vendor to review another vendor but they truly deserve it. I hope to work with Alex and the staff at The Stone Barn again, it was truly a pleasure.
I can't stress enough just how FANTASTIC Chelsea and Alex were in helping us plan our wedding! The barn is gorgeous, if the weather is right, you HAVE to see the pond ceremony area, it's literally what dreams are made of. My now husband and I booked the venue and moved to Ohio a week later. We planned almost all of our wedding from out of state and between Alex and Chelsea there was never an unanswered question, I never felt like I was a bother to them (although, with all my questions and e-mails, I probably was lol!). They made the whole process seem so easy. On top of that, we had to schedule our tasting around short visits back to PA, and they were so sweet in working with us. The head chef was actually on his honeymoon the one week that we could do the tasting and the Sous chef, Tyler, stepped up and made all our wedding meal dreams come true! People are STILL talking about the food at our wedding! There honestly isn't a bad thing to say about The Stone Barn! Even better, they were fantastic with working with our budget too! We definitely though our budget, compared to the averages we were seeing online and from our friends, that there was no way we could have a place like The Stone Barn. They are affordable, easy to work with, the day of staff were just so sweet, it's absolutely gorgeous. You definitely wouldn't regret working with them!
I am thrilled with my experience at the Stone Barn. From our very first encounter, we fell in love with the venue. And we found Alex, our coordinator, to be friendly, professional and incredibly easy to work with. Every request we made, Alex found a way to make it work. Even though we wanted to do a lot of things in a nontraditional way, she was supportive and encouraging. All of the staff was terrific. The venue is beautiful--rustic, yet refined. Our guests raved about the food, which we knew they would love. We could not have asked for anything more.
My husband and I had our ~130 guest wedding ceremony and reception here in mid-October and were thrilled with the outcome. The ceremony was in an absolutely beautiful location overlooking the pond and waterwheel. While the forecast initially showed the chance of rain, we knew there was a backup indoor location that could be used at last minute. However, the weather turned out to be perfect, so we were able to have our ceremony outside.
The food choices were very tasty and everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy their food. Before our event, we met the chef, who was extremely accommodating to our guests food restrictions (vegetarian, Celiac disease). Much of the ingredients were sourced locally, and the menu was planned to use seasonal items. He puts a lot of passion and creativity into his food and it shows!
We primarily worked with Alex while planning the event, but also worked with Lindsey as our event grew closer, as well as the day of.. Both Alex and Linsey were a pleasure to work with and very responsive to our many, many questions leading up to the big day. They always seemed to have a good handle on all of the moving parts. Our shuttle bus vendor was 45 minutes late in picking up our guests, but Alex and Linsey reassured us that they could easily adjust the schedule and it all worked out fine. Our other vendors mentioned how easy Stone Barn was to work with while planning. All of the Stone Barn staff's organization and amiability gave peace of mind to us and our families.
We highly recommend the Stone Barn for other couples that appreciate the gorgeous Chester County countryside, as well as great food and service.
We fell in love with the Mill at the Stone Barn as soon as we saw it. The location is unique and provides the opportunity to personalize the space with decorations. Chef Ray is extremely talented and the food was excellent. He also worked with us to provide some special food for the cocktail hour to go with our Oktoberfest theme. The staff was attentive and extremely helpful. The only "down side" is that it can take a while to get a response to calls or emails, but this did not detract from the end result in any way. Our guests were all thrilled with everything from start to finish and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone else.
The venue was absolutely beautiful. The service was great. I did not have to set up anything. I just had to bring my decorations, flowers, etc. and the staff set everything up for me.
I fell in love with the Mill at the Stone Barn as soon as I saw it online. I was elated when we found out that they were available for our wedding date because it was absolutely the most beautiful setting for our wedding. The staff was always helpful and accommodating and helped to make our day come true. The ponds at the mill and gazebo made for some truly amazing pictures!! Their food is also delicious. We received so many compliments on how well everything went and how delicious everything was. Thank you for making our day memorable!
I knew I wanted to get married at the Stone Barn the first time I saw it. My husband and I checked out a number of local venues and did price comparisons on all of them - the Stone Barn was neither the most expensive nor the least expensive, but it definitely had the most "bang for the buck." It is a gorgeous location with both outside and inside ceremony venues. The Mill was great for our reception - plenty of atmosphere and space! The staff is very friendly, professional, and accommodating. The food is fresh, local, and amazing, and the head chef (Ray) is awesome. Our wedding was beautiful.
We chose the Stone Barn for a unique, 'barn/mill' rustic feel to our wedding. The Mill was awesome, along with the double ponds and ceremony grounds. The indoor ceremony option was great as well. The service on the day of was perfect. Before hand, it was pretty good, but you have to ask for what you want. It's not a country club! Great if you want to do your own cake (we did cupcakes!) and centerpieces. We liked it so you could put your own personalization in it!It included the dinner, the venue, the linens, etc
We had our wedding here at the mill location. This place was absolutely gorgeous and has so many options for pictures. The staff was amazing to work with and open to all of my ideas, as well as helping me with questions I had along the way. The mill location also has a huge area for dancing, which for our friends and family was extremely important. Our wedding was the best day of our lives and having it at The Stone Barn had a lot to do with it.
The wedding vedor was beautiful, well kept, and easy access. The staff was very accomidating, easy to work with, flexible, did anything to meet my needs as well as our families request. Food was delicious and the servers were attentive, quick, and discrete :) They gave us the most beautiful reception any bride and groom could ask for! We and our guests left speechless :)
Stone Barn update - Had our daughter's wedding at the Stone Barn last year - pretty venue - but bad food - a far cry from meals we had at the restaurant in the past and what was presented at the tasting. So we went to small claims to get some sort of reimbursement on our $13000.00 meal payment.. The Judge ordered the Stone Barn to pay $4000.00 - that was about 6 months ago and still no check despite several phone calls...sigh. Kelly said she would look into it with the court - still no check.
Guess the next step is to proceed legally and maybe call CBS News On Your Side to see if they can help. I am very glad that some people's wedding receptions were wonderful, and I'm very sorry that ours and quite a few others were not. Seems like what you get at your reception is a bit of crap shoot.
I don't know what's going on at the Stone Barn - what we were presented with at the tasting was a far cry from what we actually got and reminds me of the old "Bait-and-Switch" game. This was a total disappointment because I've eaten at the Stone Barn before and loved their food!
We paid nearly $6000 for 85 people to get filets - my son-in-law held his up to me during dinner and said "filet or hockey puck?", my husband's was charred and had the flavor of grilled cardboard he said.
To be fair, there were a few that were cooked appropriately but I was appalled enough to go into the kitchen to speak to the chef. Even Chef Ray had to agree the filets were overcooked and later on the phone said we shouldn't have to pay for the filets at the very least and that none of our meals were up to his standards.
To sum up our food experience at the Stone Barn -
1. The salad was supposed to be the Baby Spinach Salad (described in the menu as having candied pecans, gorgonzola, port-poached pears) and the chef agreed to add dried cranberries per our request. The salad we were served at the tasting had a beautiful presentation - a small "nest" of spinach leaves, with all of the listed ingredients.
What we were served at the reception was a skimpy handful of spinach leaves from a plastic bag thrown on a plate with 2 pear slices, maybe a candied pecan and/or cranberry if you were lucky, little or no gorgonzola and some vinaigrette dressing - there was no presentation, the portion ridiculously small and nothing like what we had at the tasting. It was cheap, sloppy and not what we paid for. At the tasting we repeatedly asked Chef Ray if our salads at the reception would look like what we had at the tasting and we were repeatedly assured that they would.
2. The filets were pretty much all overdone, most of them charred on the outside. The only consistency in "doneness" was overdone - my husband's first filet was black on the outside, overcooked and tasteless, I returned it to the kitchen and when they provided another filet - it was still overdone and tasteless. I went around to all of the tables and with a few exceptions, the filets were overcooked and many of them burnt. This is totally unacceptable and a total embarrassment to my husband and I for our guests.
3. All of the meals had substandard presentation - a glop of mashed potatoes, an extremely skimpy portion of green beans - a five year old could have done better.
During the meal, I spoke to both Alex and Chef Ray in the kitchen, who both apologized and acknowledged that the filet meals were overcooked and even burnt.
I was mortified that all of our guests were served cheap cafeteria
The Stone Barn is easily the best place to have a wedding in the area. We rented The Mill for our Sept 17th wedding and it could not have been easier or more beautiful. Kelly and Alex are serious pros at this and answer any questions you might have leading up to the event. They're also on hand on the day of the event making sure you don't forget to do something. I wouldn't have made it through without them, but with them it was a breeze. You don't even need to hire a wedding planner with them in the package!
On the day of, everything was gorgeous and perfectly set up to our specifications. Not only that, but the food was incredible. People are still raving about it almost 2 weeks later. I'm planning on going back for a meal in the Foxfire restaurant ASAP. Their new chef Ray does an incredible job.
You have to go to The Stone Barn. You WILL fall in love with the Mill. I couldn't have imagined a more gorgeous setting for a wedding.
We had an incredible time at our wedding! The setting is obviously beautiful, plus we lucked out with a perfect fall day. The food was delicious. Jim kept everything running smoothly - we didn't have to worry about a thing.
Thanks, Jim!
The Stone Barn is absolutely wonderful. The prices are affordable, the food is awesome, the people are really nice. My wedding was picture perfect!!
