The wedding venue of my dreams! The Chesapeake bay has always been a special place for my family. Once my mom heard about this venue, and we went to go look at it, we knew it was perfect! The Tides Inn has just gone through a major renovation, modernizing the space while still keeping it's historic and nautical feel. The Tides Inn is naturally beautiful with so many amazing on-site locations to choose from for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. I had the pleasure of working with Joanna as the onsite event coordinator for my wedding and I cannot say enough amazing things about her. Joanna is incredible and such a joy to work with. She answered all of my questions promptly, suggested great ideas to help make my wedding run smoothly, recommended excellent vendors, and helped keep the organization and communication running smoothly through the entire planning and execution of the event. In addition, the banquet menu is absolutely incredible! They went above an beyond to curate a gluten free menu that still included crab cakes, and other dietary restrictions guests had. This venue has such a special place in my heart and I would highly recommend The Tides Inn to any couple looking to get married in this magical place in Virginia!
Food was incredible, and the wait staff was very prompt- they ensured that our dinner ran on time and ended when we’d hoped. The events coordinator Allie was fantastic. We did run into some issues with the bridal suite and some disorganization around our reserved block. We also discovered the evening of our wedding that there was another reception right nearby that the Tides knew about (as they were booked by this party to stay on the premises that night) and they did not tell us. They also had a musician performing at the venue just up the steps from where our reception was held. Our DJ had to compete with a lot of noise...
A beautiful picturesque place to have a wedding. If you like water and gorgeous scenery look no further. It is the everything you could ask for for a reception or venue.
The Tides Inn lost two stars, and maybe should have lost more due to its events coordinator. At first, our event coordinator, Laurie, was wonderful. She was thoughtful, professional, and pretty efficient. Then, she left the Tides and was replaced by someone from the sister property in Arizona. The fact that I am having trouble pulling her name (Stacy, that was it), should tell you something about her customer service. Very close to the wedding, she unnecessarily terrified us about having music in the reception space (even though I had it in writing from Laurie that music in that room was fine). Music was an integral part of our wedding and had she done her research before talking to us, we could have had less stress. Then, on the day of the wedding, she didn't check in with me (the bride) even once. The wedding party said she was not helpful when they would ask for her assistance. She helped set up for the ceremony, and then disappeared either before or right after it started. We never saw her again, even though the reception was also at the hotel. We only had two flower arrangements outside, and my wedding party had to bring the into the reception space themselves. They could not find the wedding planner, or any other staff to assist them.
We had passed hors d'oeuvres and a mashed/sweet potato bar for our short reception. The hors d'oeuvres were wonderful. My guests adored the country ham biscuits and fried oysters. However, they placed only whipped cream, and no sour cream at the mashed potato bar station and many guests has an unpleasant surprise. But, hey, that helped make a funny story for the future.
Additionally, we had customer service problems while staying in the hotel. For example, on the wedding day, I asked for champagne flutes to be sent up to my room. It took an hour and three calls before this happened.
The Tides Inn is a beautiful place. Absolutely lovely views. But if Stacy is still the planner, I don't know if I could recommend it.
I recommend it for the views and food, but not for the customer service.
We are from Pennsylvania, and wanted a destination wedding on the Chesapeake because of our love of the water and bay. We had been wanting to visit the Tides Inn by boat for some time, but had never made it. When we got engaged and saw they do weddings, we needed to see it and we were not disappointed!!
The three biggest reasons we booked at the Tides: delicious food, incredible view, and Laurie!!
From the moment I sent my first email inquiry, Laurie helped us every step of the way. She was very responsive and you can tell she loves what she does. Every email and all of my millions of questions were promptly answered. Another great thing about the Tides is their flexibility - they really want to make your wedding vision come to life! There are so many rooms and outdoor locations to host your events, you really feel like you have a one-of-a-kind wedding. We had about 60 friends and family at our wedding, and we hosted a welcome dinner, the wedding, a s'mores bonfire on the beach, afterparty with late night munchies, and a farewell brunch. All events were wonderful and had a backup plan in case of bad weather. Our guests cannot stop raving about how wonderful everything was! Laurie and her team truly gave us the best weekend ever!
If I had to do it over - I would ask more questions about types of rooms/rates. As this was a destination wedding, all of our guests needed rooms and not all rooms are the same. We figured this out a little late but Laurie helped us with our room block and made everything work.
My hubby and I stayed in the Lancaster suite which was beautiful and secluded. All of the girls got ready in the suite, we had breakfast and lunch delivered too. The Spa was able to accommodate everyone for hair and makeup, which was all done in the suite. Everyone looked beautiful!!
If you are looking for a place that does it all - look no further! This is a very unique venue and you cannot beat their food and atmosphere!
I had an evening wedding at the Tides Inn on the beach. It was absolutely perfect. The food was delicious, the setting was beautiful, and best of all, the staff was very hospitable, helpful, and polite. I fully recommend the Tides Inn to every bride. Carole Konrad, Wedding & Sales manager was such a delite to work with. I couldn't ask for anything better. I am very happy and more than satisfied with the way that everything was pulled together for my wedding.
The wedding planner does not care what you want. She was all about making money. We sent back the contract several times because she added in additional costs that we did not ask for. When we weren't spending enough (almost $15000 on the venue and food) she asked if we would move it to a lunch wedding so they could do another wedding in the evening. Tides Inn is rude and made my wedding planning absolutely miserable. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy.
