Emily and her team were amazing to work with! Everyone was so accommodating to our needs and on top of every little detail. They thought of things we never would have -- like having a cake cutting set ready to go! The venue itself was beautiful.
My husband and I planned our wedding for a year and a half with Danielle at the university club and it was absolutely everything we imagined. From the food, to the elegant ballrooms with chandeliers, everything was perfect. It was a pleasure working with Danielle and the university club. We definitely 100% recommend this venue to anyone getting married in the Pittsburgh area!
The University Club staff went above and beyond in providing exceptional service the entire day! They organized a taste testing for our menu, from appetizers during the cocktail hour, to dinner selections and even late night snacks. The Pittsburgh Cookie table was set up into a wonderful display. Our Cocktail hour was on the terrace with beautiful planters and the view of The Cathedral of Learning was breathtaking. We were always able to contact them throughout the process.
While the spaces themselves are amazing, the staff was really hard to work with. SO SO disorganized. I wouldn’t recommend this venue due to staffing. All my other vendors received 5 stars.
INCREDIBLE! My husband and I had our reception here a month ago, and it was everything we could've dreamed of. The staff was simply the best. All our guests commented on how attentive and wonderful every single staff member was. Samantha was just incredible. She helped us every step of the way. from start to finish. She was quick to respond to emails or phone calls.
My bridesmaid's, MOG, MOB, and I all got ready here before the wedding. They provided us with the BEST brunch food we have ever had. We had our cocktail hour on the terrace and our guests raved about the view and most importantly, raved about the food. I think we will hear about how amazing the lamp lollipops were at every family gathering. My husband and I had cocktail hour in one of the rooms and Danielle provided us with a whole tray of food and a drink of choice. She was absolutely wonderful! The reception went so smoothly. The food was to die for! I have never been to a wedding with this kind of food or let alone a restaurant. All the guests came up to us during the reception and the next day talking about how the food was amazing. After our reception was over, since we had the building until 11 PM, my husband and I ate cake on the terrace, while our guests went to our after party. It was the perfect way to end the night.
We will never be able to thank each and every person for making our wedding day the most special and incredible days of our lives. If you are considering having your wedding here you should!
I am not exaggerating when I say Jessica works to make every little detail happen for you. She's all you need to make the day just as you'd imagine. Having to plan a wedding from across the country was no easy feat but Jessica made it a non-issue. An absolute pleasure to work with. The ballroom with the chandelier gets dolled up for a timeless experience. Not to mention, the food is delicious -- the tasting was one of our favorite parts. Wish we could do this every year, and every year we'd choose Jessica.
Jessica and everyone at the university club were truly a dream team when it came to planning my wedding day. Being a Pitt grad... well you know. We chose our date about a year out and Jessica was such a trooper dealing with me and my mom and about a million questions about logistics, recommendations, timing, and last minute changes or add ons. When we met the July before the wedding, she made me feel so at ease when I asked where I was in my planning. She sat with us at our tasting to ensure the food was exactly as we wanted. OH AND THE FOOD! Still drooling thinking about it- from the food at the cocktail hour to the pretzel display at the end- our guests loved it! We also decided to get ready there the day of and everyone who helped out that day was amazing- even with our silly requests. I would not change a single thing about how that day went, and I think everyone at the University Club, from Jessica to the servers and bartenders, played a HUGE role in making that so. THANK YOU FOR ABSOLUTELY CRUSHING IT.
Look no further for a vendor! Jess and her team are absolutely amazing. I was an out of state bride and Jess made everything so easy. She responded to all my emails right away. On my wedding day the University Club exceeded my expectations. It was stunning and elegant. I felt like a Princess. The food is so delicious and plentiful. My guests raved about it and my family is fussy. The open bar was plentiful too. The staff are so sweet. Jess and the University club made my fairy tale wedding come true.
Having met at Pitt during our freshman year of college in the dorm across the street, we knew the University Club would be the perfect spot for our wedding reception from the moment we stepped inside (and outside on the terrace!). What sealed the deal for us was how kind, knowledgeable, and accommodating the wedding coordinator Jessica was. I instantly felt at ease when we started discussing initial plans and Jessica continued to help me throughout the entire planning process, answering every single question that we had promptly and providing the best recommendations. For any special requests that we asked about Jess always responded that she could make it happen, and on our wedding day, she made sure every detail was exactly how we envisioned it. It was so nice to be able to truly enjoy the day stress-free knowing we were in good hands. Jessica's assistant Brenna was also so sweet and let us sneak up to the terrace for a bit during the reception and spend some time together, just the two of us, soaking in the perfect day we had. After the wedding all of our guests told us how great the food and service was, how much fun they had, and how amazing the terrace was for cocktail hour. The entire experience we got at the University Club was a dream and would not have been as special, or even possible, without Jessica and her team!
Our wedding on the rainy but perfect day of 10/26/19 was made perfect mostly due to having our reception at The University Club with 186 people, and the unflappable and accommodating nature of the UC’s wedding coordinator, Jessica Transue. She sincerely deserves a raise. During the entire planning process, which lasted in excess of 15 months, included question after question and email after email to Jess. Rachel and I never failed to come up with something new we were curious about, and Jessica knew every single answer and how to accomplish our goals and Rachel’s vision. She was also insightful and offered recommendations based on her experiences planning copious weddings. Rachel’s dream wedding was realized, and we could not have done it with the UC staff and Jessica. We would often joke that if we asked for something ridiculous, like ninjas coming from the ceiling during our entranced, that Jess would likely say, “yea we can do that.”
The service staff and the building manager were also very very helpful and accommodating. The food was delectable, drinks were made in a timely fashion, and guests were comfortable throughout. We rented the Gold Room and used that as a cookie room, and that was a nice place for sound sensitive folks to hang out if the music was too loud. Everything was accessible for people with disabilities. We also rented the college room for an after party. There was some cheese sauce of some kind there that I vow to get my hands on again.
My father passed 11 days before the wedding, and the venue staff were all extremely supportive and sensitive to that incredibly difficult time in our lives. The emotional intelligence of the entire staff is something to behold.
The day felt like a dream. We were never told no, and we were always told upfront any extra costs or other things that the UC did not do themselves. They worked seamlessly with our vendors. The space is incredible. Beautiful, classic, regal. We were unable to have our cocktail hour on the terrace, due to weather, but the lobby was perfect enough. Thank you to the University Club from Damien and Rachel Gabis.
• University Club of Pittsburgh-I don’t even know where to begin with the UC. Not only is the venue beautiful and serves amazing food, they are pretty inclusive with what they provide for you and their wedding coordinator, Jessica, is literally priceless. Jessica was so incredibly helpful with planning, it felt like having a personal planner without paying for one. She is one of the best parts about this venue hands down. She was so quick to respond to me the entire time I was planning. Having her help with everything was so valuable and I really trusted her to execute everything that I had planned when the wedding day came and it was all out of my hands. I am very much a perfectionist and I had no doubt that everything would be perfect with her handling it all. I really cannot even express how amazing she is. The fact that the UC is inclusive of a lot is also something that I really loved because I live out of state. This helped tremendously with planning and coordinating everything. It took a lot off my plate. The food is made on site and it was delicious and no one complained of cold food. They also have many options for bar packages, we were even able to create our own customized menu and bar package, which was awesome. They even include the price of the wedding cake in the package price. They work with two bakeries in the area, I did tastings at both and there’s no question, Bethel Bakery is so much more professional and has much better products. Also, the UC was very accommodating for food allergies, which was huge for me as I personally have gluten and dairy allergies. I would highly recommend the UC. Also, they offer discounts if you have your ceremony at Heinz as they are affiliated. You can also get a discount if you are Pitt Alumni.
We couldn’t be happier with the University Club! From the food, to the kind staff, the building, the location… the list goes on. But someone in particular that made this day extra special was Jessica Transue, especially since we planned this wedding from Texas! In fact, we joke all the time that we would get married ANYWHERE that Jessica is working at; She was a great added bonus to an already amazing wedding venue!
I simply do not know where to begin to explain how absolutely wonderful our experience was at the University Club, from the day we booked the venue to the very end of the night on our wedding day. As many of these reviews mention, the wedding coordinator at the University Club, Jessica Transue, is an absolute dream to work with. There is simply no need to spend thousands of dollars on an outside wedding planner when you have someone like Jessica at your venue making sure every single detail is taken care of and perfect. She made the entire planning process so incredibly easy and stress-free for us. Throughout the planning stage, she answered all of my (many, many!) e-mails almost immediately, and had an answer to every single question that I asked. The Club has weddings every weekend, but Jessica always made me feel like I was her only bride! More importantly, she made every single special request that we had happen without hesitation. She accommodated tweaks to the dinner menu, bar menu, venue layout, etc. Anything that we wanted or needed, Jessica made it happen with a smile. Many of my friends who have planned weddings at other venues in Pittsburgh have mentioned to us that they were “nickeled and dimed” for every single thing throughout the whole planning process, or that their venue wouldn’t accommodate any special requests without charging an additional arm and a leg. Every time they turned around, it was another bill that they weren’t expecting or another up-charge for this or that. We couldn’t have had a more different experience - we knew exactly what everything would cost going in (and it was VERY reasonable for such a gorgeous venue and the level of service) and were never up-charged for special requests or surprised with random bills. Thanks to Jessica’s meticulous planning, our wedding day went off without a hitch. Every detail of the day was absolutely perfect. It was a truly stress-free day thanks to Jessica overseeing all of the set up and all of our vendors. We received endless compliments from our guests on the cocktail hour on the stunning rooftop terrace (there is truly nothing else like this beautiful terrace at any other venue), the gorgeous ballroom, and the food and drink. Maybe one of the most outstanding aspects of this venue is the service. Our guests were served dinner so promptly, their wine glasses were never empty throughout dinner, and there was never a line at the bar. The Club also trayed our cookies for us, and the cookie table was beautiful. We had a staff member dedicated solely to our sweetheart table, and she (and Jessica, who was at the venue all day and night) made sure we were able to enjoy our dinner in peace before we had to greet guests and that we had everything we could want or need all night long, checking in on us several times to make sure we were happy. We are still blown away by how wonderful the entire team was - servers, bartenders, etc. It was truly a beautiful day and I cannot recommend this wonderful venue enough. There are many lovely choices in Pittsburgh, but the University Club is simply “the total package,” and I am so happy we chose to have our wedding here.
A lot of people will tell you that your wedding is the biggest day of your life. Thanks to Jessica and the awesome team at the U Club, we could enjoy our big day and not stress about the details. Jessica had everything running smoothly the entire time, allowing us to have the perfect day with our friends and family. You can tell that Jess really loves her job and will do anything to make your day the best it can be. I can't think of one thing that I would have changed. Also, Andrea was the best! She took care of whatever drinks, food, etc. that my groom and I needed throughout the night and was just the sweetest. My guests also raved about the excellent service and awesome food. Typically wedding food is good, but I'm telling you, this food surpassed everyone's expectations. It's also worth mentioning that Jessica and the team were able to work with us all the way from Florida, where we currently live. If you want a stress-free, AMAZING day, book with the U Club :) & Hail to Pitt!
We were beyond thrilled with the University Club for our May wedding. First, Jessica was just a dream to work with! Her flexibility, attention to detail, responsiveness, and performance were all exactly what you would want from a wedding coordinator. The space is just beautiful - classic and elegant – and the fact that they reserve the entire building for the day of your wedding is unheard of! We certainly took advantage of this, having the groom and groomsmen getting ready in the library, doing first look on the terrace, and taking photos in several places around the club. The food at the University Club was delicious and the fact that we could include our parents in the tasting and customize the menu/appetizer choices was just incredible. Our guests were raving about how wonderful the wedding was, and the University Club was a huge part of this! We cannot say enough about how much we loved and would recommend this venue to anyone planning a wedding!
There is so much good to say about the University Club, I don’t even know where to begin! First of all, Jessica was an absolute dream to work with. We couldn’t have done any of this without her. She was a constant support system, always willing to listen and give advice, and her attention to detail was impeccable. Every single detail was executed to perfection and Jessica truly made our wedding day vision come to life! Not to mention, she’s one of the sweetest individuals you’d ever hope to meet. Planning a wedding can be stressful, but working with Jessica and her team at the University Club, you just know you’re in good hands. Now onto the food...amazing! From hors devours at cocktail hour to appetizers and main courses, everything was delicious. We’ve heard nothing but rave reviews from our guests! The wait staff and bartenders couldn’t have done a better job either. Not only were they quick and efficient, they were also some of the kindest people we could have ever hoped to work with! Overall, if you’re looking for a beautiful ballroom, great food, convenient location to Heinz Chapel, and the best wedding coordinator, please look no further. We loved everything about working with Jessica and the University Club! Thank you again for making our day perfect!
There are no words that will do our experience justice. Our wedding was perfect thanks to the incredible staff at The Unviersity Club, especially Jessica. Jessica was so easy to work with and so attentive to everyone's needs. I also can't get over the food, which was amazing. Every single one of my ideas and dreams came to life in this venue and I cannot imagine a more perfect place to get married.
Everything we could have imagined and more. The perfect location for a classy urban affair with that old art deco opulence. Staff are so friendly and welcoming, food is out of this world and the views from the terrace are the best for stunning pictures. We could not have asked for a more beautiful space or accommodating team of people!
WOW! The UC was the venue of my dreams! I cannot say enough about Jess and Marla who coordinated the whole thing! They both went above and beyond to make sure we had the day we always dreamed of.
Our reception was in the first floor ballroom, with a cocktail hour in the bar/lobby area. The bar/lobby space was perfect for our guests to mingle around, have apps, get a few drinks, and just relax in the seating area. We LOVED that the first floor ballroom had an awesome french door archway entrance AND a beautiful fireplace! The tall windows and columns added to the space and it was truly breathtaking!
The decorations were simple and elegant with candles EVERYWHERE! There were candles on every window sill, on the grand staircase, on each and every table, as well as decorating the floor around our sweetheart table AND in and around the fireplace to make it even more beautiful!
The food was top notch. The chef was accommodating when we wanted to change or make any menu tweaks. Their selections are awesome to begin with, with so many options to choose from. We had MANY compliments on how awesome the food was!
The venue was walking distance from our ceremony location. Also close to hotels, bars, restaurants, even museums in Oakland for our travelling guests.
Of all of the decisions that come along with planning a wedding, choosing UC was BY FAR the best decision we made!!! If you're looking for an AWESOME coordinator, beautiful venue with so many accommodations, in the perfect location in Pittsburgh, look no further. This is it!
I had my wedding ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception at The University Club in January 2019, with about 160 guests. The space was gorgeous and perfect for our winter wedding. We loved being able to have distinct spaces for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception, and were also able to have both sides of the bridal party get ready in the venue. Given that it was the winter, we actually were able to do all of our bridal party pictures within the venue as well, between the stairwell and the pristine, snowy rooftop! In addition to being a gorgeous space, the staff and service were everything we could have asked for. The venue coordinator, Jessica, was such a help to have leading up to the wedding, to work with our vendors, and to help us pull off the day. The entire staff was great to work with on our wedding day—it was awesome to have attentive service from the start of the day all the way through the end of the night while cleaning up. Food and beverage was great, and it was very convenient having dessert options at awesome bakeries as part of the package. I can not recommend The University Club enough for an easy experience and gorgeous, unique setting!
My husband and I had our wedding at the University Club in November and we cannot say enough about how wonderful everything turned out! From the beginning to the end the coordinator Jessica was extremely accommodating and helpful with everything we needed. She was quick to respond to any questions and made sure every detail was what we wanted. The reception turned out beautifully and we had so many compliments on the beauty of the ballroom and especially the FOOD. Many of our guests made sure to tell us how amazing their meal was. We have so many wonderful memories of the day and are so happy we chose the University Club!
I don't know where to start with explaining how perfect everything at the University Club was for our September 15, 2018 wedding. First of all, the space is absolutely gorgeous - it is such a classic and elegant event space and as soon as I walked in the room, I knew my vision could come to life in there. After my husband and I had chosen the venue, a new event coordinator was hired - Jessica Transue - and she was an angel. She was so well organized, friendly, and answered all my questions (and I had a lot) quickly and with so much detail. You can tell she really enjoys what she does, and she is so good at it! I felt so comfortable planning everything with her, which was great, because my husband and I were planning our Pittsburgh wedding from Chicago. Also, the food at the University Club was a 10/10 - everything we tried was out of this world. Our guests are still telling us to this day how much they enjoyed the food. I would recommend this space to anyone who asked me. It is so gorgeous, and I felt like a princess on my wedding day!!
The University Club was the perfect venue! Marla C. and the rest of the staff helped make our wedding perfect. They listened to exactly what I wanted from the food to the decor. I was absolutely blown away by the end result. I would also recommend having your cocktail hour on the terrace. We received so many compliments on our wedding!
Very pleased with our choice of reception venue at The University Club. The entire staff there was really nice and helpful. Amanda was always responsive to my many emails, and Jill was very helpful as well in the days leading up to our wedding. All of our guests really enjoyed themselves at our reception. It was just a really elegant and convenient place to have our reception being that we had our ceremony at Heinz Chapel. The ballroom looked perfect when my groom and I walked in and saw everything. There was a lot of lovely natural light in the room and loved all the windows. It also felt really spacious and comfortably arranged for a wedding with 165 guests. When one of the venue's two guests elevators broke during our reception, they immediately got a repairman out there to fix it before the reception's end. Lastly, the wait staff at the UC were really quick, hard working, nice and friendly. Glad we chose the University Club as our reception venue.
I truly couldn't give enough praise to the University Club, especially Amanda. She was beyond helpful, gave ideas, and worked with me to plan our dream wedding. The day was absolutely perfect. Everyone was obsessed with the food and we had a separate beautiful room for cookies! Every detail was just perfect, from the placement to all of the candles and all of our wedding accessories to the whole organization of the day. I couldn't thank them enough for all of the time, guidance she has given us, and creating our dream wedding.
I am so glad we chose to have our reception at the University Club! I wanted a venue that was elegant, beautiful, and classic, but not stuffy. Upon our initial visit to the University Club, I knew it would be a perfect reception spot. Our whole experience was organized and easy at this venue thanks to the excellent staff. Throughout our meetings with the on-site coordinator, she was very thorough and provided us with excellent suggestions. I was happy with the food choices provided by the University Club, and had a hard time narrowing it down at our tasting because all the food tasted delicious!
The weeks leading up to our wedding, the staff at the University Club was fabulous. I worked with Amanda and Jonathan to pinpoint the details our our reception and appreciated their attention to detail. The day of our wedding, the University Club delivered a fabulous experience. My bridesmaids and I got ready in the refresher room there, and I was happy we chose to rent the room for the whole day. The entire staff was so attentive while we were getting ready and catered to our every need. For our actual reception, the decor was set up beautifully. We did not have to worry about any set-up or clean-up. We had many guests comment on the delicious food, including our appetizers during cocktail hour and the dinner. There were no long lines for the bar or long waits for dinner service. We chose to have our cocktail hour in the main lobby rather than the outdoor terrace because we were not sure of the weather. The main lobby was set up with bars and tables and everything worked out well. I would recommend the University Club and their wonderful staff to anyone getting married!
My November 2016 was beyond perfect. The University Club staff went above and beyond from the moment we toured the facility until well after our reception ended. The vision I had came to life perfectly through the help of on-site coordinator, Kaila. She was helpful and knowledgable throughout the process and was excellent at answering emails or calls instantly! The staff on the night of our reception was phenomenal as well. They were helpful and kind to our guests. The food was out of this world. My family and friends have RAVED about it being the nets food they have ever eaten. I wish I could replay the entire reception over and over again, it was that perfect! If you are looking to an amazing space to hold your reception, look no further...seriously!
This venue was absolutely perfect! Could not be more satisfied with Kaila and her staff. It was exactly what we wanted and more. The rooftop terrace was beautiful and was the perfect place for cocktail hour.
Our wedding was PERFECT! Here are our 2 main compliments out of a list of many
1. The staff and service are amazing. I am a caterer myself and I've never seen a nicer staff with more efficient service. I also have many picky friends that came up to me personally to comment on how unbelievable everything was. The food was warm and dinner service was quickly and efficiently.
2. My cake never showed up (outside vendor-not the U club) and Kaila handled it SO well. They made sure we had a cake for us to cut and were prepared to provide cake for our guests. I cannot even begin to express my gratitude for this. She kept me and my family calm and were rockstars!
Thank You!
My wedding at the University Club went off without a hitch. Everyone thought the location was beautiful. We used the terrace and the ballroom, which meant we had the entire building to ourselves. Kaila, who is the coordinator, was a DELIGHT to work with. She is responsive, sweet, and helpful. And on the day of she is there making sure everything goes smoothly. I didn't have to worry for a second!
Kaila was very professional and a pleasure to work with. The entire process from beginning to end was seamless and very organized which took a lot of pressure off of me. She was always available to answer my questions / concerns and she provided me with several helpful recommendations. Kaila set up all the decorations and centerpieces exactly as I envisioned them. The reception looked absolutely beautiful. She was even there to bustle me dress when my bridesmaids couldn’t figure it out! I received a multitude of comments about how classy and beautiful the venue was. I also received several comments about the service (timely, no wait for drinks) and how delicious the food was. A handful of guests even told me that it was the best meal they’ve ever had at a wedding! I would definitely recommend the University Club and Kaila to anyone looking for a reception venue. Thanks for helping to make me wedding day special Kaila!
Absolutely thrilled with our wedding at the University Club! My husband and I are both academics, so we liked the idea of having our reception at a place connected to a university. Additionally the decor and general aesthetics of the University Club were exactly what we were looking for: elegant, classic, traditional but not stuffy. The service was top notch from the beginning to the end. I was organizing the wedding from out of state, but Kaila, the wedding coordinator, easily worked with my mother to choose the food and other details. Kaila was very knowledgeable, and always available over email to answer questions. The food was delicious, and the staff was extremely professional and courteous. The event itself was an absolutely wonderful party, and the University Club easily accommodated our guests, which included about 15 children. The ballroom was beautiful, and looked perfectly elegant. "Upgrades" like fancier linen are truly unnecessary in this gorgeous space. Take my word for it! The chairs, linens, china and general decor (those curtains and windows!) are all beautiful alone without any embellishment.
Two small issues for future brides to keep in mind:
1) we reserved the terrace, which overlooks the Cathedral of Learning, for the cocktail hour ($1,000). Unfortunately we were not able to use it because of rain showers a couple hours before the cocktail hour started. This was fine, because I know the staff needs time to set things up. But keep in mind that if you reserve the terrace and can't use it for inclement weather, you won't be refunded your money. However, Kaila very generously offered us a complimentary meal for four (my husband and I went with my parents) on the terrace the week after our wedding; we were then able to enjoy the beautiful view and have a nice meal. Despite not being able to use the terrace for the cocktail hour, the University Club did a great job setting up a very elegant spread in the main lobby, and we were pleased with the final result.
Secondly, the staff may have (we are not sure) thrown away my floral table arrangements at the end of the night. This was a disappointment because the flowers were very beautiful and fresh, so we were hoping to offer them to our guests to take home. I would suggest making a special point to Kaila if you want the flowers reserved for guests just to make they are set aside when the staff is cleaning up.
All in all, I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful and elegant place for my wedding reception. For its location in the heart of Oakland, the University Club is reasonably priced and absolutely beautiful (and the staff knows what they are doing!). Don't hesitate to book with them!
My wedding at the University Club was fantastic! Not only is the venue absolutely gorgeous with some of the best views of the University of Pittsburgh, but the staff there was top-notch. The on-site wedding coordinator, Kaila, was outstanding from beginning to end. She was very knowledgeable, had great suggestions, and, most importantly, she made my wedding day stress free and perfect. She definitely goes the extra mile to make sure that everything is in order and everyone is happy.
The food was excellent- we had many compliments on the appetizers as well as the dinner. The wait-staff was efficient and meals were served quickly.
I cannot say enough good things about the University Club and the staff there. It is an excellent venue for your special day!
From start to finish we had a great experience using University Club for our venue. Kaila was wonderful in helping to pull everything together. She is extremely organized and helped guide us along the way. The day of the wedding went very smoothly and we did not have anything to worry about. Luckily we had great weather and were able to enjoy cocktail hour on the terrace, which is a must! Everyone enjoyed the outside cocktail hour. The food was delicious! All of our guests said what a wonderful meal they had. Overall, our guests all commented what a nice place the University Club was and one guest even recommending it to a friend for a wedding! I would recommend the University Club to anyone looking for an event in Pittsburgh.
We decided on the University Club for our daughter’s wedding due to proximity to Heinz Chapel, and the elegant ballroom. Our experience from start to finish was outstanding. Kaila, our wedding coordinator and her staff attended to every detail. The wedding was planned from out of town, and Kaila’ s prompt response to all of our questions made the entire experience smooth and stress free. On the day of, Kaila and her staff put every detail we desired into place. Our guests raved about the grilled filet mignon! As mother of the bride, I appreciated that Kaila checked in with me throughout the evening to make sure everything was going smoothly. Cocktails were on the balcony overlooking the Cathedral of Learning, which was very special for our guests. Drinks and delicious hors d’oeuvres were served smoothly. Our daughter also got ready at UC, and the food and drinks we ordered were delicious, and the room was set up for hair and make up, with a mimosa toast. I recommend having the UC confirm the nearby parking if you are having a late night wedding. I offer my highest recommendation to Kaila and the entire staff at the University Club.
Gorgeous venue, delicious food, and an amazing staff! The wedding coordinator, Kaila, did a wonderful job coordinating every detail of our wedding day and providing guidance throughout the event. The staff is friendly, easy to work with, and very communicative. They collaborated with all of our vendors to set up everything on our day, so that all we needed to do was show up and enjoy the night. It is a stunning venue with 1920s elegance, and the food was incredible. I highly recommend this venue!
I have nothing but praise for The University Club! We held our wedding reception at the club in late June, and the whole process was easy, efficient, and executed to perfection. The venue itself is beautiful and classic with a lot of character. The food was cooked perfectly; the chicken wasn’t dry as so often happens with large parties, and our guests were raving about the filets.
But the absolute best part of the venue is the wedding coordinator, Kaila, and the University Club’s staff. Kaila is reliable, responsive, and has great taste. As for the staff – two quick examples to illustrate that they will go over and beyond for your event. At the cocktail hour, we had an elderly guest who would’ve benefited from a seat, but all chairs were occupied at the time. One of the staff members went to storage, grabbed a chair and brought it specifically to our guest. Secondly, as the bride, I got caught in the hallway talking to guests when my dinner was served. It took me about 20 mins to get back to my table. When I returned to the table, the staff had already reheated my meal (as it had gone cold with my absence), and re-served my filet to me.
Everyone just went out over and beyond to make our day as special and magical as we wanted. Highly recommended!
A great venue. We can not say one bad word about The University Club. Everything was extremely well done. Great, elegant space. Not too stuffy. Food was very good. Easy to work with. Most of all, the staff is tremendous. The wedding coordinator - Kaila - is very, very organized and very good. We would recommend The University Club 100%.
What a fantastic place to have a wedding. We have received nothing but compliments on our choice of venue. Beautiful skylines, ballrooms and accommodations.
The food is fantastic, personnel is wonderful and the services even before your wedding day are top notch!
The wedding coordinator is there the whole way helping you thought everything. She will answer all your questions, accommodate all of your requests and in the end you will have a wonderful wedding day to remember forever.
The place is well worth the price. Exquisite place!!!!
Our wedding at the University Club was great! The views of Oakland are unbeatable, the venue is gorgeous and the staff is amazingly helpful. Some of the comments I received:
"The food was amazing!"
"A very PITT view for a very PITT wedding!"
"This is a spectacular place!"
Our wedding coordinator was Kaila Frantz. She was incredibly helpful, always available and very patient with us and any last minute changes we asked for. I felt extremely confident putting my reception in her hands and everything turned out better than I expected.
Additionally, the reviews of our menu were great. Everyone's meal was delicious and plated beautifully. Sometimes with banquet food you worry that the steak will be cooked well done and the chicken dry, but not here. The steak dish was a beautiful medium rare and the chicken equally perfect.
Lastly, the venue itself was great. The views from the rooftop terrace can't be beat, especially on a gorgeous day. The suite for the bridal party was a nice touch and there was a small window above the ballroom so we could observe our guests dancing and having a good time.
All in all, I highly recommend Kaila and the University Club for any Pittsburgh wedding.
We recently held our wedding reception of 205 guests at the University Club. It was everything we expected and more! The staff was attentive, friendly, and did an exceptional job. Everything from the terrace cocktail hour overlooking Oakland to the ball room was absolutely breath taking. The food was delicious and most importantly served hot to all of our guests. Our wedding coordinator made the planning process easy and seamless. If you're looking for a beautiful reception with a unique and breath taking view you must have your wedding at the University Club. I was very pleased with the service, the staff, and the amenties the club had to offer.
We recently had both our ceremony and reception at the University Club. My husband and I met at Pitt and we were set on having our wedding in Oakland. The day of the event was PERFECT and the University club was EXACTLY what we wanted. The space is absolutely gorgeous, the service the day of was amazing, the food was wonderful, and we had a blast! The staff was so attentive not only to the bridal party, but to all of the guests. We have had nothing but compliments on our wedding! We had 130 guests and the space was perfect. The only reason for the 4 stars on service was the wedding coordinator situation. Since we set our date last June, we had meetings with 3 seperate coordinators, and continually had to repeat details. Hopefully it is set now! Would reccomend to anyone! Hail to Pitt!
The university club was a beautiful venue for our wedding reception. Additionally, the service was superb and the food tasted great. My reception decor was very detailed oriented and the club did an excellent job of pulling all the details together without any problems. All my guests were so pleased with everything.
We had our wedding reception at The University Club and it was fantastic. It's a little bit pricey, but definitely worth it. We had 3 entrees - a beef, a chicken, and a fish. The food was excellent. After the wedding, we received numerous compliments from our guests about how good the food was and about how nice the venue was. The staff was wonderful as well. We had a guest who was in a motorized wheelchair and they couldn't have been nicer to him. They were very accommodating and concerned about his needs. Overall, I would highly recommend The University Club!
We had our rehearsal dinner at the University Club, because the location was great, and the actual venue is beautiful! The food was delicious, and everything worked out okay the night of. My only complaint was the process of planning the event, I don't think I ever got one phone call from the event coordinator who I was working with. I had to initiate every conversation, which most of the time required several voice mails with an eventual email she would respond to several days later. The service the night of the event was lousy too, I had to find someone once I arrived, because no one was eating, and no one had been served any wine. It was okay for a rehearsal dinner, but I don't know if I would trust them for my wedding...
Everything was perfect at the U Club-- service was phenomenal, the food was delicious and served HOT for 275 people, drinks were great, the staff is phenomenal to work with, you can't beat the outdoor terrace for cocktail hour-- do yourself a favor, pick the U Club at Pitt!
the university club turned out t be a beautiful option for our wedding. The wedding coordinator was not the best and needed to be pushed a little, but it all came together in the end!
I would like to rave about my wedding reception at The University Club. My coordinator and the staff were wonderful. Very easy to work with and very professional. I received great reviews from my guests on the food too. Highly recommended.
I cannot say enough about how wonderful of an experience I had having my reception at the University Club. The rooms are beautiful, and working with Kelly was great - she covered every detail with me. The food was incredible and my guests loved it all. The staff was very professional and attentive and took care of everyone (we loved the refresher room for the bridal party when we arrived after pictures). As for price, it's not the most inexpensive place out there, but it's well worth what you pay. I looked at other places that did not provide nearly the package the UC did, and were more expensive. In sum, I have no complaints and would highly recoommend the University Club to anyone!
My husband and I had an overall disappointing experience with the University Club where we had our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. I’ll start by the positive parts to the experience: the chef is wonderful to work with and makes great food and the space is beautiful.
We had three negative experiences at the University Club: our University Club wedding coordinator quit with just a couple of months before our wedding suddenly without any notice or passing things we talked about along to anyone else at the University Club. It was very difficult to have to start over on details just a couple of months before the wedding.
Secondly, four days before our wedding, the University Club contacted us to bump us to a different ceremony room than the ballroom we signed a contract to be in. We immediately went down to the club, to see the room they intended to move us into. It was about a quarter the size of the room we reserved, and did not match our color scheme at all. They ended up pulling our contract and realizing that we had booked both ballrooms and the terrace starting at 3pm, so contractually they could not bump us to another room for the conference they wanted to have at the same time as our wedding. They offered us monetary compensation for this, but it was still unnecessary stress just days before the wedding.
Lastly, after we were not bumped out of the ballroom for our ceremony, we were shocked to find out that the conference was moved to our reception ballroom without asking us. We discovered this on the day of our wedding when my husband went to check on Ballroom B after 3 PM and nothing was set up and a conference was going on. He spoke to a University Club employee about his concern that the room was not set up and was told that the conference was in the room until 5:30 PM and that it would be set up in time for our guests that would come in at 7:30 PM. We had contracts that reserved Ballroom A, Ballroom B, and the rooftop terrace all starting at 3 PM that day, so this was a breach of our signed contract from January of 2010.
This was not only a contractual issue, but it was also incredibly stressful for us and inconvenienced our wedding vendors who did not have enough time to properly set up. In addition, my husband and I were unable to try our first dance in the ballroom and we were unable to check the details (which were not all in place) beforehand.
We had an expectation of excellent event management from the University Club and were completely mismanaged and taken advantage of. We paid a lot of money for this venue and they failed us tremendously.
My husband and I had a fabulous experience in everything dealing with the University Club. The staff was very eager to help, and were very accomodating to our hectic schedules.
The location was perfect, and we are still receiving compliments on our roof top terrace cocktail hour.
Could not be more pleased!
