The Veranda was the perfect venue for us. It's so simple, elegant, and beautiful, and the trees are so stunning. Our 100 guest wedding fit perfectly in the reception hall and the ceremony space. We got so many compliments on what a unique and stunning venue it is, and it offered the perfect backdrop for our decor and florals. The Spice of Life catering menu was excellent and we got so many compliments on the fact that the food is not "typical wedding food" - just what we hoped! The bar and serving staff and our venue coordinator were kind, helpful, and efficient. We couldn't be more glad we had our wedding at the Veranda!
The Veranda was a dream venue and was the perfect quality for the price. I struggled when I first started looking for venues with the amounts that each place was charging. The Veranda was exactly what I was looking for and was reasonably priced. I was a bit unsure at first since in-house catering was required, but the food was great! Working with Spice of Life was phenomenal and that team was so helpful as well. We got so many compliments on the food and service.
Both teams were professional, extremely helpful, and very communicative- this was all amazing considering I was planning my wedding from out of state!
Highly recommend using The Veranda and Spice of Life
There is no better venue for a wedding! The venue-appointed coordinator communicated with us constantly leading up to the wedding day about what we wanted and expected. The fact that the ceremony and reception could be all in one place was so nice for our guests. We also didn't have to stress about the food because Spice of Life is housed on this campus! It was so wonderful to have a backyard vibe for the ceremony with plenty of nice, clean facilities. Also, many guests have told me that this was the best wedding food they've EVER had, with which I'm inclined to agree, since the Veranda's day-of coordinator made sure to serve me (bride) and my husband (groom) a plate of EVERY appetizer and EVERY entree on our table -- we actually got to eat!
We first discovered this absolute gem of a wedding venue by attending a (free!) weekend open house event where we were able to tour the grounds, sample some delicious foods from Spice of Life, and chat with a number of different wedding vendors. This experience was so helpful for us as we were very early on in our process. The staff hosting the event were very friendly and helpful in answering our questions. After touring a few other venues we decided to book The Veranda for our January 2023 wedding.
This turned out to be the absolute best choice we could have made. Our wedding was incredibly special and our guests all had a wonderful time. Weeks after our wedding we are still receiving compliments about the food and the venue. Our photos came out looking amazing, as this venue served as the perfect backdrop.
Some things we appreciated about our Veranda experience:
- Friendly, knowledgable staff. We were in frequent communications with them for months and they were always helpful and responsive. They were also quite flexible and always willing to accommodate our various requests whenever possible. It really was a stress-free experience working with them which we very much appreciated
- Excellent food. Our guests raved about the food at our wedding. We opted for hors d'oeuvres served during cocktail hour, and a buffet serving for the reception dinner. We also had vegan/gluten-free as well as kids meals served. All came out great. We also enjoyed our sample/tasting experience, though it was very difficult to choose our menu items as everything tasted so good
- Beautiful venue. It looks even better in person! As mentioned previously, the venue really made our wedding photos look amazing. Our DJ who is quite experienced also had praise for the space. The venue is quite flexible as well making it a good choice for when the weather is unpredictable.
- Our Veranda/Spice of Life day of point of contacts Marshe and Christina were both incredibly kind and helpful for us. They really helped make our day go smoothly.
We have zero regrets about our choice of venue, and would highly recommend The Veranda as a wedding ceremony and reception venue.
Booked the Veranda for our wedding reception and wow!! We got so many compliments on how beautiful the place was and how we found it. The venue is reasonably priced and such a hidden gem. After our final walkthrough, they had eased a lot of our anxiety. The provided caterer, Spice of Life, was phenomenal! They created a TexMex buffet menu for us and it hit the mark! During our reception, the Veranda provided a staff member to make sure everything went smoothly. She served me and my husband our dinner, she opened the huge windows in the hall for us, she handled the sparklers. It was the most perfect evening :)
The Veranda was an absolutely gorgeous venue. They were responsive and easy to work with. The captain we were assigned on our wedding day was phenomenal. If you’re in need of a venue, check out The Veranda.
We got married at the Veranda in June and it was phenomenal!
A few weeks before the wedding, we found out it was going to be unusually hot for June, and we were worried that our guests would be miserable. The Veranda did a great job keeping spaces cool and serving plenty of water. No one had to leave because of the heat, and everyone was as comfortable as they could be.
The space for getting ready was lovely and the getting ready snacks were a huge hit.
All of our guests loved the food and we got a lot of compliments on how it was displayed. We really liked how much flexibility we had with the menu and how we were able to make it “us.” We ended up doing Tex Mex and barbecue since many of our guests were first time visitors to Texas, and Italian desserts for the Italian side of our family. It made the menu feel more personal.
Christina was our POC for the day and she was great! She made sure we ate and helped our elderly grandparents get food.
Also, the pricing for everything was great. I feel like we got a really good value for our money.
The Veranda is hands down the BEST venue in the San Antonio area! The grounds are gorgeous with unlimited photo potential! Staff are true professionals with exceptional customer service. They went the extra mile to ensure our special day went smoothly. Venue has a Bridal suite, Groom suite, Outdoor ceremony, Indoor reception, Bar, Social area with koi pond & plenty of restrooms available. The Veranda & Spice of Life caters were truly a pleasure to work with. They’re super accommodating, listened to our needs & the food was exceptional. Everyone still raves about how delicious it was! Highly Recommend The Veranda & Spice of Life Catering! I will use their services for all my future events.
Got married March 5th and it was a dream come true! The catering was incredible and every little detail was perfect! I have gotten so many compliments on how beautiful the venue was and great the staff were. I would highly recommend them they were all incredibly sweet and helped me make my dream wedding come true!
We loved everything about the Veranda!! From the staff, to the location, to the decor.
Channel and Kim were both great. From the second we booked the venue to the day of the wedding they were both very communicative and responsive with any questions we had.
I highly recommend everyone to go look at the veranda if you are looking to get married or have a party. You wont be disappointed. It really is a beautiful place.
We used Spice of Life Catering for our wedding in Comfort, and they went above and beyond to make sure we had the best food (fajitas!) possible for our guests! Not only was our food plentiful and delicious, but the staff was absolutely wonderful. They went the extra mile and took on tasks that should have been handled by other vendors, which we greatly appreciated. The planning process was also extremely easy, as their customer service was very quick and efficient. I planned our wedding from overseas and had to do everything via email, and it all turned out perfectly. The value for money is also fantastic. I strongly endorse Spice of Life!
We did not use the Veranda, but Spice of Life catered our reception at the McNay Art Museum. The service and food were outstanding. Jess with Spice of Life was so helpful throughout the planning process. She made all the changes I requested and was patient with my million questions. My family is very picky about food, and they couldn't stop talking about how great everything tasted. The chicken was so tender - which is unusual for wedding food! The appetizers during cocktail hour were so good, and my signature drink was delicious! Everything was served warm and the service staff did an excellent job.
We hosted our brunch wedding at The Veranda in June 2019. We could not have asked for a better venue, or a better team to work with. Jessica, Stacey, and Chanel were all amazing during the planning process, and the day-of team was also superb. They made sure to confirm all details prior to the wedding day and were flexible with some adjustments up to the morning of. The Venue provides an elegant setting that doesn't require too much decor to make it feel impressive to your guests. We had the entire place for our small intimate wedding, and at a very reasonable price. Highly recommend The Veranda as your venue of choice for both ceremony and reception on you wedding day!
The venue was absolutely beautiful! And the catering was amazing. We had an all vegan wedding, and they really moved mountains to provide that to us. I would recommend anyone to use this venue! They are absolutely great! The only negative experience, was they started to clean up before midnight when we had paid for the venue until midnight.
We used the Veranda for our wedding reception. It is so beautiful and affordable. They are currently renovating the pavilion (Aug 2018) and we had been promised in May that it would be finished by our date. Understandably things come up and the renovation was not finished, however they did an amazing job, you couldn't even tell it was under construction and they had the AC on full blast with fans. Even in August with an indoor/outdoor pavilion they made it cool enough and everyone enjoyed it. The best part about the Veranda is probably that their catering company - Spice of Life- is on site. Food was amazing!
The venue itself is gorgeous. Looking at all our photos, every angle has a beautiful backdrop. Stacey and Jessica were amazing. Very laid back and always accommodating. Food was wonderful. What some people don’t realize is you get the ceremony, reception, catering, and bartender all in one package. So much less stress!
The Veranda was a dream to work with! The venue itself is gorgeous with so much beautiful scenery. Stacey and Jessica were so professional, friendly, and accommodating. Emails were answered promptly and they really helped us plan the perfect daytime wedding and brunch menu. Our wedding went so smoothly and the service was top notch. Our guests raved about the venue, food, and service. The staff at the Veranda just went above and beyond to take care of us on our special day and we couldn’t be more grateful!
What a gorgeous spot for a wedding! The staff, the food, the venue - everything exceeded our expectations. Our daughter's wedding had to be postponed because of an accident and The Veranda could not have been more understanding of our situation. They worked with us to find another date and everything worked out perfectly. I'd rate this 100 stars if I could!
Venue is beautiful, our wedding planner Stacey Garcia made our day so perfect!! Love the venue and their services
Great place to get married! Would recommend to anyone. The staff made the day perfect!!
We just had our wedding at the Veranda on 3/10/17 and it was the absolute best venue we could have asked for! It had everything we ever dreamed of to make our big day special. From the beautiful grounds to the amazing and personable staff, we had the best experience! Our guest list was 250 and it rained on our wedding day and the staff still made it seem like everything was supposed to happen the way it did. They moved the wedding under The Veranda so seamlessly and were consistently making sure that every move they made was exactly what my husband and I wanted. They took initiative and worked their hearts out to make sure our wedding day was a day we would never forget! From Jessica who was our main contact at The Veranda and Spice of Life, to our wedding coordinator, Stacey Garcia, we felt like we were working with family throughout the entire process. We would highly recommend The Veranda for a large wedding, small wedding, business event, school function, etc. We loved everything about it!
We just had our wedding at The Veranda 4/29/17 & cannot say enough great things about this place. It's a beautiful venue in a great location. The staff was wonderful and so helpful and the catering was amazing. We highly recommend this venue for your wedding/event!
We were married at The Veranda in February 2017. We had an amazing experience! Anytime that I emailed, a response was sent quickly. The food was fantastic, the staff was very pleasant and accommodating. Everyone commented on how beautiful the wedding venue was and how everything flowed perfectly. I would highly recommend this venue if you are looking!
We got the venue for a steal of 5,000.00 for Valentine's Day, which happened to fall on a Tuesday in 2017. However, when we arrived for an open house, we were treated with a less-than exciting reception. In fact, the girl who showed us around was so unprofessional, we had to resort to speaking with the manager from there on in. We were not impressed with the menu items until we brought in our own recipes. After a few months, they hired another girl, Stacy, who is very sweet, but the communication issues felt by myself and my coordinator left me less than impressed, and left my coordinator deciding she would never want to work with them again. However, the event staff the day of (the site coordinator left before the event began, although she was supposed to stay that night) was above professional. That being said, the officer on staff slept thorugh the event, and decided to try to sleep with one of the guests. The most frustrating event for me, was the fact that the officer did not do rounds to ensure everyone was out of the venue before locking up. When my best man was locked into the venue, we tried calling the coordinator, the venue, with no reply. We then called law enforcement, and the dispatcher promised she would try. She then called the owner, who refused to let the best man out for the night. When I spoke with the manager about this, she blamed my best man for being drunk, which he was not, rather than accepting any blame. Other issues arose with payment amounts (we asked how much was owed, and were told nothing), only to be informed 1 hour before the ceremony of a 4k payment owed. When I arrived to the venue to begin getting ready, the bridal room was being painted, and it took an hour to get water in the bridal room. Unless you are ready to MASSIVELY MICROMANAGE EVERYTHING, please look elsewhere.
The Veranda was an absolutely beautiful and perfect venue for me and my husband. It's a beautiful property...everyone at my wedding remarked on how perfect it was. Great house, beautiful lawn and gardens. It makes for really beautiful backdrops for pictures.
The catering, Spice of Life, did really great. The food, even though I picked a simple menu, ended up being really delicious. My band even told me that it was the best food they had ever had at a wedding, and they have been to a lot of weddings!
The only part I would complain about are the coordinators there. They seem to do only the bare minimum to help you plan your wedding. Don't expect full service wedding planners. I used someone from the Veranda to day of coordinating, and I felt it was barely adequate. No big snafus, but I would have liked more help with managing the timing of events during the reception and help herding guests to the areas they were supposed to be. It wasn't horrible, but just not what you would expect from someone in the service industry!
I would still highly recommend the Veranda, but maybe bring your own wedding planner/coordinator if you are picky about details.
Spice of life is by far my favorite caterer in San Antonio. They catered both the engagement party and the wedding and their food is delicious. They have the best service and can adapt to any situation. They sat down with us a few times to hammer out the menu and let us taste food each time. They were able to make all of our favorites and it all tasted great. We did a buffet line at the engagement party and stations at the wedding. They provided bartending services for both and were fast and friendly. The service is absolutely fabulous and the food is even better. I will always use Spice of Life for any catering needs!
We used Spice of Life for our wedding and they were outstanding. They helped us create a very outside the box dinner menu and all of our guests loved it. Everyone though that it was unique, had local flavor (as many guest were from out of town) and the set up was fun and encouraged people to socialize. Thank you for making our wedding so special and fun!
Spice of Life delivered perfect catering and bar service at our wedding. I had asked for a meal that could blend Bengali and western traditions, they made a delicious mutton biriyani, and chicken marsala with leeks, and delicious veggies, all served family style. I am still hearing compliments about the food at our wedding. They provided a late night milk shake service as well, everything was perfect! Jessica is the best wedding industry person I have ever worked with.
We got married at the magical Veranda. In terms of the food, we mentioned early on that we wanted something different, a wide variety of food representing our cultures. They didn't disappoint! The guests loved the food and kept raving about it even to this day. Some of their favorites were the mashed potatoes, seafood fondue, fried chicken and waffles, carving station. Jessica was great helping us arrange the perfect meal!
Spice of Life Catering served a baked chicken cordon bleu for dinner and it was delicious. We also served a late night snack of pulled pork sliders and dreamsicle milkshakes and they were amazing. I had many compliments on the food, as well as the open bar. Jessica was great to work with. I was a little disappointed because I did not get the leftovers from dinner which I was told I would get, since I paid for them. So I kind of missed out on my dinner because it was such a busy day that I barely ate.
We had a lot of ups and downs with spice of life.. It started with the fact that they thought we were getting to much food for 80 people which yes we probably were but we wanted lots of options. Then the number fell to 67 so In compensation we got free toasting glasses with champagne and an alternative. Over the phone they were great.. but on the day we were greeted by a completely different person than who was supposed to be handling our wedding.. only after we called After the wedding were we told that the lady In charge of our wedding had done 7 days (or something close to that) caters in a row and was offered a day off, a phone call would of been nice. The food was AMAZING we can't praise it enough. We only wish they didn't only serve it for 40minutes (it was a big buffet) We understand that because of the change of who was In charge that they may not of known our timeline but as soon as our first dance started everything was packed and disappeared. Yes obviously the serving stations would of gone but not even the table of vegetables and fruit were left for our guests. After that was the cake cutting. . They took down the cake and only served the middle which most people didn't like (it was lemon) The only person from spice of life who did there job great was the bartender she did an amazing job and our guests complimented on how nice she was. There was an issue with a memeber if staff from spice of life who was standing is the corner of the venue by the stage just watching everyone dancing for most of the evening, some of our guests also noticed and mentioned it to us, it was very unprofessional. We just expected a lot more as they were the MOST expensive thing that we paid for our wedding day. We also only got a tray of vegetables and a tray of pasta as leftovers which was practically nothing compared to how much there was and weren't we supposed to having took much for 80 anyway? They were very polite to us and our guests but overall we definitely feel let down. We've been offered a free meal of food from our wedding and can go and have them make it for us whenever we like. But at the end of the day it was our one special day.. Our wedding day. Why should we of had to settle for anything less than what they promised? If you want amazing food and quick responsiveness then they're great but for the money we spent we didn't get professional catering or handling of our wedding. Overall we'd give then a 7/10.
My husband and I wanted the not so traditional food at our wedding, and Spice of Life is the only catering service in San Antonio who is willing to go that extra mile for their clients!! We wanted a Filipino themed menu from Lumpia to Pancit to even a Lechon....Spice of Life delivered it all!!! I was surprised on how close they were to making each dish fairly authentic. Their presentation for the buffet line and the Lechon were spot on! We highly recommend Spice of Life Catering if you want something different at your wedding because Chef Mike is an amazingly talented chef and Jessica is such a wonderful person to work with!!!
Jessica and the staff at Spice of Life Catering are amazing and I would recommend them to any bride! I went through a lot of research trying to find the perfect catering company and had some bad experiences with other companies in town.
When it came to Spice of Life I never experienced anything but efficiency and professionalism. Jessica treated me like I was her top priority, always responded to me quickly, and was always willing to answer all of my questions (even my neurotic bride questions). They were not pushy and completely understood and respected that I had a set budget that I was willing to work with and they worked hard to accommodate us in that regard.
The food was excellent and we got many compliments from our guests about it all. The service was perfect (both wait staff and bar). Not only that, but the way that they set up their service areas (both cocktail and buffet) were very put together and complimented our decor nicely.
Spice of Life Catering is amazing! We had trouble finding delicious and authentic Mediterranean food to honor our Greek and Egyptian heritage, and BOY did Spice of Life DELIVER! Their dolmas are phenomenal and so is the spanakopita and spinach artichoke dip! Their servers are so polite and courteous and Jessica is a joy to work with. As soon as we walked down the aisle, the server had our drink choices waiting for us at the bridal suite and appetizer plate so we didnt miss cocktail hr food. They were happy to make any changes to the menu that I requested. Such a great experience. I highly recommend them.
Amazing food and service! Dessert Nachos were such a fun groom's cake alternative and guests loved it all!
Jessica was wonderful at our tasting and returned my phone calls promptly. The food was phenomenal. My guests did not stop raving about the mashed potatoes, Greek salad, and chicken piccata. Our servers, Holly, Ellie and Dennis, were very professional and courteous. They even saved us a plate from the cocktail hour we missed due to pictures. They went above and beyond their duties. I could not be happier. My event was a success due to them.
Spice of Life was fantastic! Jessica, who coordinates the events was accessable and easy to talk to about the exact menu you wanted for your wedding. Their staff that was at the wedding were friendly and made sure the bride, groom and guests were happy. Got many compliments about our wedding food! Would highly reccomend.
We were super happy with the catering service from spice of life. Chef Mike, Jessica, and Carmen were GREAT to work with! They were super helpful, patient, and flexible throughout our wedding planning process. The food was creative, delicious, and reasonably priced. We are so happy Spice of Life catered our wedding!
so easy to work with!
Spice of Life was a pleasure to work with! The food was great and everyone with Spice of Life was so friendly and so helpful. Couldn't have asked for a better caterer!
The food was spectacular and very reasonably priced. I worked with Jessica who was great about setting up the tasting when I was in town and working with me to make everything perfect. My guests were thrilled with everything. I only wish I could have eaten more!
Some of my guests said that the food was good. Some said that the food was cold. We were very upset that we had to pay for 40 plates that weren't used and then didn't even get to take any food home. Presentation was below average.
I hired Spice of Life after looking at multiple caterers... I found that their food tasted the best and they were one of the only caterers willing to negotiate based on my budget. I thought the servers looked very nice, and they did a beautiful job setting up. They were easy to communicate with over email.
My only concern was that I think at some point during the buffet line, they ran out of new potatoes, which we had requested, and many of our guests received mashed potatoes instead. I didn't hear about this until afterward, and it was a very small concern. Overall, they did a fantastic job, and I found their service to be reliable, professional, and tasty!
Spice of Life was easily one of my favorite vendors. The staff was absolutely wonderful, and so was the food. They also did our rehearsal dinner, which was also perfect.
The food was delicious, creative and awesome!! All of my guests were so impressed with the quality & service from Spice of Life!! The service was outstanding because the staff were very attentive to the groom & I! The chef & staff were very professional! I would recommend Spice of Life to anyone who wants superb service and outstanding food! Thank you for helping to making my wedding reception wonderful!! :-)
I worked with Jessica who did an excellent job making sure all our needs were met. She worked with us on the price to create a wonderful menu that fit our budget and the food as well as teh presentation was spectacular. We got a lot of complements on the food at the wedding.
When we met with Spice of Life, they put together who the people in our party were. They had a table set beautifully and accomodated the fact that we brought along my 4 yr old step daughter, without missing a beat. We were served everything we asked for and they even prepared extras for us to try, in case we changed our mind and wanted to add to our menu. The Chef was there for our appointment and explained a lot of the processes to us. They even checked all their ingredients to make our menu soy free, since my grandfather is allergic to soy.
At the wedding, we got nothing but compliments from our guests on the outstanding food. We work for a caterer from time to time and I was impressed by the ability of the caterer's workers to stay in the background and break down the buffett without us even being aware of it!
We were overall impressed with this business and would recommend them to anyone looking for an outstanding meal!
I researched numerous caterers for my wedding reception and was completely wowed by these folks. Completely professional from start to finish, well priced and absolutely a pleasure to work with. They went above and beyond at the reception to make sure that my new husband and I had a wonderful time. The food was FANTASTIC and I'm picky about food. My guests raved and had the highest compliments for The Spice of Life!!
Chef Mike did an amazing job on not only the food but the presentation. We received compliments from all our gests on how good the food was and so different than most weddings, it definately was one of the highlights. Thank you Chef Mike and your staff for making sure every detail was addressed!
Chef Mike was actually superb, food was cooked to perfection, presentation was amazing and best of all my guests had nothing but compliments on the quality.
