The Wayside Inn and Larrick's Tavern was very accommodating to my family and guests the day of my event. The attention to detail and assisting knowledge from the wedding planner, designer, and minister, Micheal Haymaker, was outstanding. Micheal held my hand and guided me with old school yet modern charm through the event process. Micheal commands respect yet he delivers with love. The The Wayside Inn and Larrick's Tavern is highly recommended for any event especially if Micheal is on location.
The Wayside Inn isn't "new made to look old" - it is truly THE vintage location. It is welcoming and inviting as it tells the stories of countless people from the Alley where the horse drawn carriages would drop their clients off to eat in the original kitchen where food was prepared over an open fire, yet it has all of the modern amenities that make it the perfect blend of "the past meets today". The venue manager, Michael Haymaker, has the ability to listen to your vision and turn it into your dream event. The staff, especially the wait staff, is very professional and focused on pleasing their guests. The presentation of the food was beautiful, with special attention being made to the final touches. We received many compliments from our guests on the quality of the food. We used The Wayside Inn for a large family gathering. Michael ensured all of our needs and requests were very well taken care of and were even anticipated for us. We stayed in the Inn and was exceptionally happy with how clean and neat everything was while maintaining the historical atmosphere.
Our guests were very pleased with the presentation and quality of the food prepared by Chef Jaya. We were served a beautiful three course meal during our luncheon. The first course was her Broccoli Cheddar Soup. It was light and tasteful. The Rotisserie Chicken Salad Sandwich served on marbled rye bread was absolutely delicious along with the sides of coleslaw and a deviled egg. The third course was her Wayside Inn Southern Style Bread Pudding. It was served warm with a delectable sauce and the dish just melted in our mouths. It was the best we have ever tasted!
Our event was held in The Wayside Ballroom with the tables adorned with white tablecloths, white chargers and white napkins. Our waiter, Mike, was fully attentive to all our guest’s’ requests. Michael Haymaker, our event coordinator, fully delivered on his word to make our event a memorable experience! We highly recommend Chef Jaya and the The Wayside Inn for your event!
Nothing could have beat the charm and romantic setting for our wedding reception hosted at the Wayside Inn at Strausburg, Va.
The venue provided a unique historical but traditional setting for the party. The dinner was reserved inside one of their private rooms which connected to a beautiful outdoor garden that we used for drinks and a small quartet. The dinner was served as scheduled and was hot and delicious.
The staff and management were available the entire time and were courteous, friendly and helpful especially with some of our older guests.
The Wayside Inn has allot of history to share and take in. Many of our guests enjoyed touring some of the colonial period sitting rooms and taking in some of the hotel's "spiritual accounts". Overall, I received no negative feedback from any of our guests and it seemed everyone enjoyed themselves.
For a group of just under one hundred, we felt the price was fair but the memories priceless.
Ceremony outside - all was perfect; rental prices for venue were reasonable.
Reception - dinner inside; dancing outside. The food was very good quality and very affordable; lots of options to choose from. It took quite a bit of time for the food to be served but then again, everything was fresh and hot when served. I have heard no complaints from the guests with regards to the quality. We choose to have an open bar and serve wine and beer. The wine service was a little slow during dinner and certainly over-poured (waiters were filling glasses to the rim) Open bar was charged on a "as-used" basis. End total was expensive and I've heard that the staff was offering doubles and more expensive choices, but there is no way to know. Overall the alcohol ended up being quite pricey (beer and wine were expensive too) but was offset by the reasonableness in the price of food.
The staff was very pleasant and helpful.
The innkeeper/owner was there to make sure the wedding went smoothly. I personally never had a problem with her but have heard many complaints from my guests about her attitude. The groom and her butted heads on many occasions on that day. The bill was given to us that night, to settle THAT night even though every room in the inn was occupied by myself and the groom and our guests. That was the most unpleasant ending.
Overall - the wedding went very well and we all enjoyed ourselves but there is something to be said for the owner's people skills. I was a very easy to work with, laid-back bride; any other bride may not do so well.
