We chose the Westin for our wedding with high hopes. The planning process began smoothly with Ericka, who was kind, detailed, and responsive. Unfortunately, she resigned two weeks ...before our wedding—and everything unraveled from there.
Shockingly, the team that took over had no access to Ericka’s emails, diagrams, or planning materials. My wedding planner and I had to resend everything—floor plans, timelines, seating charts, meal choices, and more. For a company of this size, that’s completely unacceptable.
The issues began the day before our wedding when the air conditioning broke. Instead of informing us, the Sales Director, Nick, instructed our planner not to tell us or our families. They brought in portable AC units but had no plan to conceal them. When we asked about a solution, the venue provided black draping that clashed with our white decor and was half the proper height. We were told that was the best they could do. Thankfully, our planner stepped in, made calls, and had more white draping delivered the morning of our wedding. When the staff began installing it, they didn’t even have proper pins—they were using black duct tape. Our florist had to step in and explain how unprofessional that was.
During the room flip, the Westin team stood around not knowing what to do or where tables were supposed to go. Once again, it was our florist and planner who directed the setup. It’s shocking how little the venue staff seemed to know about the layout and timing for our event.
Staffing issues continued throughout the day. The Catering Manager walked off the job while we were getting ready (at 10am). Guests with allergies were served food they couldn’t eat. Servers ignored the name cards, which clearly listed meal selections, and just asked guests what they ordered. Wine service we paid for wasn’t delivered to half the tables—including ours. And the meals looked and tasted nothing like our tasting.
The Sales Director was contacted multiple times during our wedding by his own sales manager with updates that things weren’t going well. With staff members walking off and obvious issues unfolding, any responsible manager would have stepped in. But he never showed up.
After our wedding, we met with the Sales Director, Nick, and his Sales Manager. We came in with a list of 38 issues—everything from food being incorrect, to one of our parents not getting their guaranteed suite, to lost personal items. They acknowledged that they wouldn’t have been happy with the outcome either, but the meeting felt dismissive. It was clear they just wanted to say they had “addressed it,” but it didn’t feel sincere. We actually never heard from Nick again, which was unprofessional after telling us we could reach out to him and he would be in contact with us.
We paid 5-star prices and received 2-star service. The venue might look beautiful, but the operations, staff, and leadership do not meet the standard. If you’re considering hosting your wedding at the Westin—please think twice. You deserve a team that will care about your day as much as you do. This was not that team.
