Samantha and the whole staff at The Whitney really made our wedding day perfect! Samantha was great to communicate with throughout the entire process and she answered all my questions. The venue is stunning, the service is excellent, and the food is to die for. We also had our ceremony in The Whitney gardens and it turned out wonderfully. I can't recommend The Whitney enough!
We recently had our wedding reception at The Whitney and could not be happier with how everything turned out! Samantha and the entire staff were absolutely phenomenal. Throughout the entire planning process, Samantha was quick to respond to any questions we had! The day of our wedding was so smooth, and we didn't have a single issue! We truly couldn't be more thankful! :)
Having our ceremony at The Whitney was the number one best decision we made for our wedding. It was so stunning and really set the tone for the rest of the day. We really wanted a romantic garden wedding but didn't have the tens of thousands of dollars that other venues in the area require. We found doing the ceremony at The Whitney gardens gave us the experience we were looking for at a fraction of the cost. What really made The Whitney stand out was the incredible service. Allison and her team are exceptionally professional and experienced, and made the entire process seamless. They included so many extras and details that other venues couldn't offer, this truly was full service while other venues granted access only. Allison especially made us feel at ease by running our rehearsal and coordinating every detail with our vendors. One major game changer is that they offer both a bride and a groom suite, which are located in separate areas of the mansion. This made getting ready very comfortable and convenient. The rooms were preset with our florals, champagne, and their house-made scones (which my bridesmaids called life changing), and we had a server dedicated to us during this time. Everything was so perfect, and I am so thankful for The Whitney team for giving us an incredible experience. If you want to feel like a literal queen on your wedding day, you absolutely should book at The Whitney!
I had my wedding here and it was terrible. My guests even commented how bad it was and that I should take legal action - yes it was really that bad. Here is the list the details:
PS: If you think you can avoid the nightmare below by staying on top of the coordinator and GM, don't. I was promised personally by the GM that everything would be perfect and that any concerns about the coordinator and their organization would be resolved.
PRE_WEDDING: The Whitney's coordinator (that were were forced to pay) literally DISAPPEARED. Right after THEY LOST OUR FLOWERS (1K worth). The bridal suit that was not ready per contract when I arrived. NO ONE was there to direct me or my wedding party as the previous bride had not finished. When asked about this I was essentially told that she took priority.
CEREMONY: The restaurant didn't properly set up the mic we ordered so our ceremony and toasts went unheard by the majority of guests. The venue also forgot to deliver the easels for signs we ordered from them. The restaurant's matre de, who was supposed to direct guests upon arrival messed up big time. GUESTS ENDED UP AT THE OTHER BRIDAL EVENT (which was supposed to have concluded) or in the bridal and grooms suits while we were changing. SOME GUESTS RUSHED INTO THE CEREMONY WHILE WERE PROCESSING DOWN THE AISLE BECAUSE THEY HAD BEEN MISDIRECTED BY THE MAITRE DE.
RECEPTION: NO ONE SET UP TABLES FOR THE GUESTS!! The bridal party, in the middle of the event, had to direct the switch from ceremony to reception seating! When I questioned the the GM, he told me he thought my guests were supposed to be setting up their own tables and chairs! One chair they handed out literally broke and collapsed when used- injuring a guest.
.
MEAL: THEY HANDED OUT MENUES CONGRATULATING THE WRONG COUPLE!!!! In addition the menus had incorrect entrees. Some even had brunch items listed for our dinner wedding! My guests had to wait hours for their food because the dining hall was over 2 hours behind. In addition THEY VENUE FORGOT TO SERVE DESERTS WE ORDERED AND PAID FOR.
My vendors were forgotten altogether and went to McDonalds.(so I lost opportunity for pictures). The kids ate adult food as the restaurant forgot to make the chicken fingers as ordered. By the time meals finally arrived it was too dark to see them and our venue time was nearly up so people had to choose whether to eat or dance for that last hour.
CONCLUSION: The entire event was an embarrassment and we paid 18K for the venue alone. The GM attempted to apologize by giving us a $250 gift card to eat our anniversary meal there! LOL- barely the cost of one dinner and honestly we don't want to remember this! THE GM EVEN MIS-WORTE OUR NAMES ON THE APOLOGY CARD LEAVING NO NOTE OR SENTIMENT THAT THE RESTAURANT CARED THEY RUINED OUR WEDDING.
I wanted my wedding to be memorable and it was - I CONTINUALLY GET REMINDED OF THAT MY WEDDING WAS AN EMBARRASSING FIASCO BY GUESTS>. The Whitney prides themselves on delivering service and excellence for which they cannot deliver. I would have been better off ANYWHERE else.
Samantha and the rest of the crew at The Whitney did an amazing job for our virtual/COVID brunch wedding. They were flexible and patient as we figured out the AV plan, made the day-of flow perfectly (and such a beautiful place to get married) and the service and food was amazing. All of our guests were raving about the beauty of the venue, had absolutely no concerns or negative remarks.
I am super pleased with my experience at the Whitney. Katlyn and Samantha were super attentive as I planned and sent a ton of e-mails. They were also really helpful during the rehearsal walk through and the day of. Their guidance was invaluable!
Our wait staff was right on point for everything we needed. My cup was never empty (thank you Daniel), and I forget the lovely waitress's name who entertained my 3-year-old nephew and brought him lots of apple juice, but she deserves a ton of credit! I had heard the food was good there, but it was really incredible. We had the beef wellington, chicken, and salmon plus veggie option, and people were holding themselves back from licking the plates.
I had a small wedding (about 30 people, no wedding party), and my options were limited for venues. But even if I had tons of options I would choose the Whitney again. It is so darn beautiful and we had such great service the entire time. It also had great warm ambiance for a winter wedding. :)
Bonus - the Whitney booked a historian to give the guests a tour between the ceremony and dinner, and they seemed to really like it!
Highly recommended!
I cannot even begin to describe what an incredible experience it was to work with Samantha and Katlyn. The Whitney is obviously a spectacular place on it's own, but the level of service we received through the planning process was truly amazing. Samantha and Katlyn answered my 100s of questions, they guided us through the ordering process for food and drink to make sure we didn't go overboard and didn't underserve , the day-of they were BEYOND attentive and I cannot thank them enough for taking nearly all my wedding day stresses away. Daniel, our head server, was THE BEST. He oddly was there every moment we needed him, but was never overbearing. It was like he was magic. We are so pleased, the food was spectacular, the bartenders were amazing, everything was tailor made and we couldn't have had our vision come to fruition without this team. We're forever grateful for the experience we had. I wish we could relive it again!
My husband and I had our wedding reception there from 12-3:30PM on 10/21/17. I was blown away by Sams (events coordinator) professionalism, attention to detail, and her calm and cooler demeanor. She was nothing but a joy to work with and made our day even more special. I highly recommend this place for wedding receptions. The staff we had were super friendly and fun to be around. We had a three course brunch menu and the food was PERFECT. It being our wedding reception, of course the bar was raised high. Sam met every expectation we asked for and she went above and beyond. I highly recommend this place. They also let us bum around afterwards to take wedding pictures there. We also did a cake cutting, hired a pianist and did dances on the second floor. It was just an incredible day and a large reason was because of Sam and her staff. Cant thank them enough!
A gorgeous setting with delicious food and very personable waitstaff. Everything was set up as we requested in terms of table arrangements, flowers, favors, and menus. The event planning staff was very accommodating from the start and answered all of our questions throughout the process; they recommended a pianist for the reception as well. Since we were planning everything from out of town the staff made it easy to manage. All of our guests enjoyed the elegant atmosphere and amazing dinner.
We loved holding our wedding at The Whitney! Samantha, the event coordinator, and Katlyn, the banquets manager, are amazing to work with - well-organized, thoughtful, attentive to detail, and very professional. And everything - from our garden ceremony to the amazingly decadent brunch reception - was incredible! The wedding was wonderfully beautiful, ran super-smoothly, and provided just the right unique touch to make the whole day memorable. Our guests kept remarking on how lovely (and delicious) everything was. Special shout-out to Eric, the pastry chef, who handled the incredible dessert buffet as well as our three-tiered wedding cake--he's amazing, and we couldn't have found better wedding treats anywhere! And if you book a wedding at the Whitney, ask about having Joel play the piano - he's talented, fun, flexible with song selection, and very, very kind. Can't wait to go back for special anniversary dinners :)
Great venue
We had our wedding here at the Whitney last month. Samantha, the event coordinator, was a pleasure to work with. She was very responsive to all my emails for the months before the wedding and was around the whole day of the wedding for all our last minute needs. She also helped get the room decorated, which was above and beyond. Everyone thought the food was amazing (I think everyone ordered the wellington) and the venue itself was a beautiful setting and helped us to get some great photos. We did both the ceremony and reception at the venue and I couldn't have been happier!
We are SO thrilled that we chose The Whitney to host our June ceremony in the garden. We were nervous about the amount of people that could've been in attendance, but the staff and Samantha were extremely accommodating and helpful throughout the day. Everything ran as it should've, and everyone at the Whitney helped to calm my nerves. Alex (ghost bar bartender) even gave me a glass of champagne before walking down the aisle to give me a little more confidence! The bridal suite was perfect for us and the champagne and water was a great touch. The garden was BEAUTIFUl, our pictures are amazing and I will be tagging The Whitney so that people can see how truly beautiful it is. It was such a unique venue and it made our day so special. THANK YOU!
My husband and I chose The Whitney to host our Friday afternoon ceremony because we instantly fell in love with the garden on the side of the restaurant. It was lush with flowers and greens in the middle of June--hidden amongst the hustle and bustle of midtown Detroit and incredibly romantic. Samantha, their event coordinator, was extremely easy to communicate with and never left any question of mine unanswered. She truly is as special as the historic Whitney mansion.
We were looking for an elegant, unique venue for our wedding. The second we stepped into The Whitney, I knew that this was the place we would be married. It is the perfect setting for an intimate wedding. The mansion is beyond gorgeous and the garden is beautiful as well. We had a very good first meeting with the coordinator, but communication was a little clunky after that. There was a revolving door of coordinators in the time leading up to my wedding, which made planning a bit difficult and stressful (hence only 4 stars). Luckily Samantha came in a couple months before the big day, because she was a dream to work with. Everything was perfect on my wedding day. The entire staff was so accommodating and treated all our guests like royalty. The food was delicious, the drinks were strong, and the desserts - wow! Thank you to The Whitney for such a wonderful experience!
The entire staff at the Whitney did everything perfect the day of our wedding! I was not bothered once with details of what needed to go where. Contact with the staff was easy prior to the day of the event and any requests we made were gladly taken. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. They even prepared a gluten free meal for my son that evening.
