We hired Sam to do full service planning and were deeply disappointed by her unprofessionalism, lack of attention to detail, and poor communication skills. We fired her because of these and multiple other issues and she refused to give us any m...oney back. Below are examples of how we felt Sam failed to fulfill her planner duties:
Communication: Often took several days, sometimes weeks, to respond to emails or didn't respond at all. Continuously forgot action items, messed up details and let things fall through the cracks. Her lack of communication forced us to micromanage the details and Sam herself.
Vendor Selection & Management: Sam didn't always listen to what we wanted and we had to find some vendors ourselves. We felt like she was often only giving us vendors from her rolodex, instead of really listening to our criteria. We told Sam we were unhappy and outlined our expectations of her, including pressing vendors on our behalf. A few days after we had just outlined our expectations, she wasn't able to get our restaurant vendor to do a tasting on the day we wanted. However, after speaking with the vendor myself, they easily accommodated us.
We felt Sam misled us, on multiple occasions, to cover up her mistakes and misrepresented vendor information because she couldn't keep details straight, like the pricing for cocktail hour vs the reception.
Planning & scheduling: Sam was in charge of organizing our Nola visit schedule to meet all of our vendors (florist, photographer, venue, etc) 6 months before our wedding. We took a week of vacation days and spent a lot of money to fly from SF to Nola for this trip. She assured us she was securing appointments, however, a few days before the trip we learned that Sam had messed up the entire visit, booked things for wrong day, and in some cases never booked any appointments at all. When confronted by us, she blamed our vendors and didn't take any responsibility.
However, after speaking with all of our vendors directly, many told us that Sam had not confirmed appointments with them. Additionally, our vendors found Sam confusing and difficult to work with. Her communication style is very unclear, leading to unnecessary confusion and frustration. We had several vendors reach out to us directly to ask what we wanted, because they were so confused by Sam's requests.
We had signed up for Sam's full service planning package, but after everything, we felt she did less than the bare minimum, and she was terrible to work with. She seemed to blame everyone else for her mistakes, including us as her clients, and our vendors, without taking any responsibility herself. When we asked for a refund, she didn't answer for 5 days, responding only after we had emailed her a second time, and she refused to give us any money back.
Bride to bride - do not book Sam as your planner. She caused an immense amount of stress and almost ruined our wedding. Give your money to someone who respects you as a bride and a person, and will cause happy tears instead of hopeless ones.
