SHAME ON ME for not doing a taste test prior to our wedding rehearsal dinner. Due to living out of town and caving to the post-COVID “hurry up and book something!” frenzy, I booked the first caterer who called me back. First-and most of follow-up conversations were great. He enthusiastically over-promised and under-satisfied. He said he was 100% Italian, so I changed up my rehearsal dinner menu to honor my daughter-in-law’s Italian family to “only Italian”, which should have been several dollars per plate less expensive based on his online quoted prices. As it turned out, because I made a change of menu, I had to pay more for increase in cost of ground beef (for lasagna), and breast of chicken. Based in Jacksonville; promised me 2 servers (plus the chef). Got one server. He and the woman arrived looking exhausted and unkempt, with wild hair. He had Sterno burners-didn’t turn them on-or they didn’t work. All the food was cold. He said he had worked at the venue location I selected several times, so I don’t understand his lack of preparedness. Lasagna was inedible. Watched my son try to covertly throw his and bride-to-be’s in the trash. I ate at end of buffet line to make sure everything was going smoothly. I got scraps, but after checking found everyone’s looked like chopped up baby food and was awful. People were taking bets his potatoes au gratin were from a box, as the day before he had warned me he couldn’t find all the “ingredients” for them…hm… I feel like I conceded to him on several items to make his job easier: I caved on china package and used acrylic because he said he would have to pay his “staff” to drive back to Jacksonville and wash-only to find they didn’t even bus the tables-we had to throw our own away. Guests had to constantly ask for more plates and more food to get through the buffet line one time. (We both knew the count because he also told me when I said I had my final number of 60, he couldn’t do it for less than 75. So, I paid for 75, and told him I had 75 to feed, which we did. I had to chase him down in the kitchen as he was packing up to leave, after several tables of people had already gotten up to ask if he was going to serve dessert. “Oh, yeah…” They quickly dumped two sloppy trays of unappetizing, small desserts (with exception to the few cannolis people loved). Majority of two trays were burned cake with some white, red, green greasy icing on top.
Before I arrived, he argued with my husband’s family about carrying an appetizer out to the garden area where we had agreed from day one we would do a welcome drink (which I provided). He never wanted to deal with taking two appetizers outside, and ultimately, due to rain, got his way with that as well. But not until after he argued with my husband’s family over my wishes.
So embarrassed and disappointed that the most expensive item (catering) of our son’s destination wedding rehearsal dinner was an epic failure.
Chef Pepe did the Italian portion of my reception, and I have to say it was wonderful! The food tasted phenomenal, and I received so many compliments! He was very professional, punctual, and reasonable prices. I would definitely recommend Chef Pepe for any of your catering needs. Thank you so much Chef!
Overall disappointed with the service and food. Food was mediocre and tasted like frozen food. I had many guest complain about the small portions being served. The chef was not professionally dressed and difficult to work with. He pretty much demanded to have the large kitchen to cook with which was an extra 200$ saying he needed it to make the food more fresh however, I'm not sure it was worth it. For the amount we paid we were very disappointed with the outcome.
Food was average. Salad looked like it was poured out of a prepackaged bag on the platter. Beef was too rare. Chef had the times wrong, we adjusted to help him and he still didnt have the food ready in time. Had many guests complain that Chef and the staff were rude. By the end of the evening, it had happened so often that i told him he didnt need to cut the cake as I had a guest (former caterer) do it. Very unprofessional, questionable fees and not worth the cost.
Really disappointed. Food was mediocre. There were no seconds at buffet. Chef interrupted guests on dance floor to alert us he was leaving prior to cutting the wedding cake. He set out pre cut cake before bride and groom had cut the cake. He took all the leftovers.
Chef Pepe was great to deal with from the beginning. He helped us adjust the menu to our needs but made it still fit within our budget. He even helped us out by doing our rehearsal dinner on short notice. We were very happy with the food selection and choices Chef came up with for us. It was delicious and we got many positive comments on the food. Great value, great service, great food.
"Adam's death is no different than your mom passing away". "His death is the same thing as writing you a Dear John letter and moving to Texas". "You can't read". These are all things said by Chef Pepe with Tie the Knot catering after my sisters fiance tragically died in a car crash 8 months before their wedding. She was entitled per the contract for a refund...a refund she needed to then cover funeral expenses, but instead she had to fight and re-live the experience for months as he tried to find any way possible to keep her money. In the end, after coming to terms with the fact he was losing, he gave up. I have no doubt in my mind he will do this again in some form or fashion to another bride. He is motivated by money and greed only...and not someone you want to do business with.
Horrible customer service. Didn't even book him. He said my wedding of 65-80 wasn't enough for him to spend the time to meet with me. Apparently it's not worth his time. He wouldnt even meet with me unlese I agreed to put down a deposit. Why would I book someone for my wedding without meeting them or tasting the food? When I said he was being rude, rather than apologizing he just said "I'm just trying to explain how thus business works and you're calling me rude." Yes chef, I am. You are rude. Oh and best part, when I said other caterers were setting up tastings before I had to book them he said maybe I should go with them. Let's all take his advice.
The food wasn't flavorful at all. He left it out when he left and didn't cover all of it. Needless to say it had to be thrown out!!!! Then come to find out.... He charged us an extra 175.00 because no one got there until we did!!! Like that was our fault... Because it wasn't enough I paid for 60 people and barely had 30 there!!!! I emailed him in regards to this.... But he didn't seem to care!!!! Very disappointed with his food AND his service!!!! Would NOT recommend him to ANYONE!!!! I only gave him 1 star because I couldn't leave it blank!!!!!
