We got married at Toolbox October 2022 and I can't believe how much we lucked out with the perfect wedding venue. We still have compliments coming in on how Toolbox is such a chic and unique space and you feel that the moment you walked in. We kept our wedding decor subtle because the beautiful art and space itself are all you need.
Aside from the gorgeous aesthetics, the team is the main selling point of Toolbox.
From the moment we stepped in, Alex was incredibly kind and helpful. He answered all of our questions without hesitation and you can tell he and his wife really put a lot of care and thought into Toolbox, appreciate its history, and have pulled in beautiful pieces like the bar and architect's table to bring it up another level. And Toolbox's day-of coordinator, Oli -- words aren't enough to express how brilliant she is. She's an organized and flexible calming presence. Everything went off without a hitch, and she was the conductor behind it all. The couple weeks before the actual wedding day seem to be the most stressful, but the second we saw Oli for our final walkthrough, that all floated away.
Tl;dr: book Toolbox, you won't regret it
I just had the wedding of my dreams at Toolbox this past weekend. The space is a mix of urban and eclectic elements that paired romantically with the beautiful string lights. Alex the owner and Olivera the coordinator were simply the best. Responsive, professional, knowledgeable. They guided on everything from caterer selection, decorations and helped create a seamless wedding day. I cannot recommend this venue enough.
We could not have asked for a better wedding day, mostly because of Toolbox. The minute we saw the space, we know it was perfect for us. The small art studio is modern, intimate, centrally located, and simply beautiful. We held both our ceremony and reception for 120 guests at Toolbox.
Alex was *fantastic* to work with throughout the planning process. He was super communicative and went far above and beyond to ensure we had a perfect day, helping out with everything from logistics surrounding decor to selecting great local vendors. Olivera, our day-of-coordinator who frequently works with Toolbox, was absolutely AMAZING. She ensured every single minute of our wedding day went smoothly. She coordinated with all of our vendors, set up our decor perfectly, swiftly rounded up our guests, and made sure we ate :) Between Alex and Olivera, no detail went unnoticed.
If you're looking for a beautiful, modern venue in the middle of the city, look no further than Toolbox!
I did not use Toolbox as a venue, but we seriously considered this location for our rehearsal dinner. I was familiar with the space from having taken a pilates class there, and was so excited about the opportunity to do something 'different' with their unique space for our large rehearsal dinner. However... it did not work out...
After emailing back and forth with Alex about our rehearsal date and goals, I shared the information with my future-mother-in-law, who went on to exchange many more detailed messages with him (re: caterers, drink/bar options, decor possibilities, etc.). Our date/time never changed during this process, as we already have a signed contract with our wedding venue. So, we finally planned to tour the space in person. Since Toolbox is busy with classes and private events on nights/weekends, we agreed to meet there midday during the week. We met Alex as planned, and by the end of the tour we were ready to sign the contract for our rehearsal dinner. We shook Alex's hand, and he explicitly told us he would send the contract by 6pm that night. Well, we never received the contract, and - after following up several times - finally, a week later, Alex admitted that someone else had already signed a contract for our date...which he had been aware of during our in-person tour.
Major waste of time & biggest disappointment of my wedding-planning process thus far.
We loved working with Alex, he was so responsive and reassuring. I had total confidence in the Toolbox staff, which made my experience as the bride so much easier. Our guests loved the venue and we couldn't have been happier with the beautiful reception.
We loved this venue! It is a unique venue and all of our guest gushed about how beautiful it was. Irina was great to work with and made our wedding day amazing.
Exposed brick, glass staircase, plenty of space, and art work. You have the ability to mix and match vendors (catering, cake, etc.). No fees for going outside their preferred list. The venue also has tables which brings down the cost of rentals. SCORE.
Last but not least, the venue comes with a coordinator, Irina. She is worth her weight in gold. She gave me recommendations and responded to emails very quickly. She made the planning process stress-free; not to mention the BIG DAY.
We selected this venue because we were looking for a chic spot in DC that was just a little different than a typical hotel banquet room. We wanted something edgier, but with great space, the ability to offer free parking and with both experience with weddings and flexibility to accommodate different caterers, vendors, etc. When we met with the wedding planner Irina the first time, we knew this was the spot for us. She offers suggestions for all vendors but they do not require that you work with anyone specifically. She is enthusiastic, creative, monumentally responsive and willing to do (and does) whatever it takes to make sure you are comfortable and that your event is successful. The exposed brick walls, combined with gallery walls with fantastic colorful art that they will change upon request is amazing. Also reclaimed wooden floors, a glass staircase and industrial ceilings that are not too high or too "untamed" but still very edgy. We used a lighting company to add ambience...though Irina will also do it for you if you provide recommended lights. It made a beautiful backdrop for our photos. The valet parking worked really well. We had just over 60 people and primarily used the first floor for food and dancing. We did the ceremony upstairs. You could easily hold double that amount and/or use just one space. It is down an alley so the arrival isn't the most lovely, but they decorate the small outside space with candles and drape portions to obscure some unsightly stuff. Still, the doorway is terrific, the location is in Dupont Circle so we took photos there with a 3 minute walk...it's ideal on so many levels. If you want a food truck they will do that too. More traditional? They have space for a full caterer to set up and handle everything soup to nuts (which is what we did). It was classy and edgy and so seamless and easy. I'm not much of a DIY'er and didn't have to be, but you could be if you wanted to. Can't recommend highly enough.
