We worked with Tuskies for our wedding catering and to host our rehearsal dinner.
First and foremost the staff are incredible. Their commitment to customer service is unparalleled and they made the wedding events such a breeze.
We are eternally grateful to Neal for his support, patience and flexibility trough planning. He was always available for questions and responded promptly. He made sure we understood the process, decisions to be made, what he needed from us, and what could be expected from them.
The Wine Cellar was a perfect location for our rehearsal. The space was great and given the buffet set up we elected for, the staff really let us have the run of the place, while being available and keeping the drinks flowing.
At both the rehearsal and the wedding, the food was incredible. We received so many compliments from our guests on the quality. Especially for the wedding, where much of the food is plated in advance, it was all cooked well and was hot and tasted fresh when served.
At the reception, the bar staff were very efficient and there was never a line, despite a single bar location. They managed guest requests effectively and patiently without a hiccup. Especially as certain drinks began to run out, they were positive and pivoted quickly. They prepared our signature drinks in advance in large batches, which was excellent. They were well mixed and well received! Overall the entire event was very well managed and the team was very organized to keep everything running smoothly.
When it comes to value, we really felt we were getting excellent quality with what we paid for and wanted for nothing. Once we picked our package, there was never conversation about additional costs or charges for modifications. The team was willing to make minor adjustments to apps and get creative with us to align to our vision. They accommodated all dietary restrictions and honestly even personal preferences, which was above and beyond. The cherry on top is the team made sure we ate during the cocktail hour, setting cocktails and apps aside for us in the bridal suite to enjoy in a private moment before the reception.
We are so appreciative of their incredible service and quality and would recommend them to anyone.
Fantastic food and fantastic service! We were so lucky that Tuskies was the preferred caterer for Birkby. Neal was amazing and worked with us to create the perfect menu. The catering staff was excellent as well.
If you have been to dinner at Tuskie’s you know that the food is very good! They recently catered our wedding and the food was good. They primarily cater weddings at Birkby House but we ultimately had to have our wedding at a different venue. I think this threw them off a bit because the food was not as good as what we’d had at Tuskie’s. The appetizers for cocktail hour were so so good, we had the Mac & cheese bites, ham and cheese croquets, chicken skewers, crab cakes, and charcuterie board. Something you should know if Tuskie’s is your caterer, the meal you have for your tasting likely will not be exactly what you have for your wedding. The chicken we had for our tasting was one of my favorite chicken dishes I’ve ever had at a restaurant. When I sat down to eat my meal at my wedding I was really disappointed in the chicken served because it was not even close to the same. It was decent, which was the feedback we heard from our guests although the steak was good so I would recommend that option. Guests weren’t disappointed in the food but it wasn’t a highlight of the night like we had hoped it would be, particularly for the price point. We loved working with Neal and he did a great job day of setting up for the wedding and working with us to make everything come together at the new venue.
Neil at Tuskies was amazing; they catered our wedding at The Birkby House and everyone LOVED it! Neil was communicative, timely, professional and funny. He made great suggestions and helped with the seamless flow of our wedding. The Cesar salads, trout & steaks during dinner were a hit. But the star was all of the DELISH cocktail dishes- the bacon wrapped shrimp and macaroni and cheese bites were the fan favorite. The food runners and servers were incredible. Lastly, the bartenders were unmatched. As a bride, one bartender figured out I was drinking champagne all night and made sure I was always full and even saved the last of the champagne to the side for me. I highly recommend Tuskies!
We were so fortunate to have Tuscarora Mill cater our fall wedding at the Birkby House in Leesburg, and it couldn’t have turned out any better! From our very first meeting with Neal, he was so detail oriented that we immediately knew we were in good hands with him and the entire Tuskies team. Working with him on our vision for the menu, the table settings, and the flow of the evening was seamless, Neal is a true professional. The food at Tuscarora Mill is always phenomenal, and the food served at our wedding was no exception. In addition, the staff was so helpful and attentive on the day of our wedding, making sure we had enough to eat and drink throughout the entire event. They truly went above and beyond, that our family and friends commented how wonderful the staff was and how fantastic the food was. Truly the BEST in Leesburg!
Neal Carpenter, Director of Private Events at Tuscarora Mill, was so great to work with for both our rehearsal dinner and wedding! Neal was super responsive and very helpful, providing guidance and recommendations in what to order, including food, drinks, and decorations (Neal made sure we had separate rocks glasses for whiskey that was being served at the reception - a very nice detail!). The food both nights was fantastic, Neal helped ensure there was a variety as to not overlap options for each day! The bonus was late night pizza from Fireworks Pizza towards the end of our reception! :) Go with Neal and Tuskies and you won't regret it for a minute!
Every bite Tuskie’s served on our wedding day was outstanding. The unique/creative passed hors d’oeuvres elevated cocktail hour; crab cake appetizers and shrimp from the grill buffet disappeared particularly quickly. The staff gracefully accommodated our specific requests for serving custom desserts (Nightingale ice cream sandwiches) with a beautiful display and adding seasonal salad toppings. Our tasting at Tuskie’s made us feel extra special with small touches that made the experience unexpectedly personalized. We worked with Neal to coordinate ordering a small round cake from South Street Under, Tuskie’s partner café, for cake cutting that was decorated beyond our expectations, including live florals and other finishing details. Thank you, Neal, for your excellent advice, good taste, and attention to detail!
Neal Carpenter the Director of Private Events for Tuscarora Mill is the best! We have nothing but great things to say about Neal and his team. They were so attentive and sweet, nothing but positive and great service. We can't thank them enough for all their hard work.
"Delicious!" "Incredible!" "Amazing!" Those are some of the words our guests used to describe the food at our wedding reception. Tuscarora Mill, or "Tuskies" as they are affectionately called, has an outstanding reputation for a reason: Their food is top-notch. My family and I dined at Tuskies several times before we booked our wedding with them, and every time the service and food was incredible. This trend continued at our tasting, our rehearsal dinner, and at our wedding! We cannot say enough about the exceptional level of service provided by the kitchen staff and servers. It was also a pleasure to work with Neal at Tuskies, as he is extremely professional, responsive, and knowledgable about his menu and wedding trends. We also have to thank South Street Under, Tuskie's sister company, and Allie (their manager) for providing the most beautiful wedding cake and delicious fall-flavored mini desserts. We sincerely appreciated how both Allie and Neal made our experiences working with them during COVID safe, reassuring, and delightful. We cannot thank Tuskies and South Street Under enough for providing our guests with an exceptional dining experience at our wedding!
Tuskie's hor d'oeuvres and dinner alone would earn a 5/5 but having Neal Carpenter flawlessly led our entire wedding process (while replying to my many emails with his quick wit and amazing sense of humor) earned it a 10/5 in my book.
I cannot recommend Tuscarora Mills enough - we had an out of state wedding and only visited our venue one time before our wedding day. We met with Neal 8 months before our wedding, sampled our potential dinner choices and threw around a few numbers in terms of wedding party and number of guests - Neal took spot-on notes and updated our head count, hor d'oeuvres quantity changes, linen choices and every other detail within an hour of me emailing him with questions. He was incredibly ahead-of-the-game and a true joy to work with. Lastly, all of our guests gave glowing reviews of each meal choice, the friendly dinner staff and the quick bartenders. If you're getting married in Leesburg, hire Tuskie's!
True Super Heroes!! The baker for our wedding cake pulled out 13 days before our wedding and South Street Under stepped up! They did such an amazing job putting together exactly what we wanted. With such a short timeframe, I expected to make concessions, but Allie the manager did such a wonderful job making our dream a reality! The cake was as beautiful as it was delicious and I couldn’t recommend them more highly. Very affordable for the area as well.
We utilized Tuscarora Mills for our wedding rehearsal dinner and it was an amazing experience. The service at our dinner was excellent. All of our guests kept complimenting how attentive the staff was and how delicious all of the food was. We also had a few children present at the dinner and without even being asked the staff offered them kid-friendly meal options (Mac & Cheese, and fruit) which the parents truly appreciated.
The great thing about this venue is also that they have a lot of space. We had about 50 guests and they were one of the few venues that could accommodate such a large party.
We worked with Susan and Neal to set up the event and they were both very professional and easy to work with. I would highly recommend this restaurant and venue!
Once my daughter selected The Birkby House as her May 2017 wedding venue we were encouraged to try the food at Tuscarora Mills in downtown Leesburg, VA & the wedding cakes created by Beth at South Street Under both establishments owned and operated by the owners of The Birkby House, the Malone family. We dined several times with and without family members and tried Tuskies pasta dishes, shrimp and grits, pork roast and many delicious cake selections such as lemon curd, red velvet, chocolate and strawberry lemon. We were sold. We worked with the tireless Jonathan Stockman, the catering manager and the effervescent Beth the Baker. Both were full of energy and genuinely excited that they were selected to make my daughter's wedding day as delicious as it was beautiful. They respected our budget & provided us with the cost differences and challenges of a plated vs. a buffet meal for 154 guests & a multi-tiered cake vs. a two tiered cake with a sheet cake served to the guests. Their table linen, plates and cutlery selection and chair options, were extensive but we stayed with a classic medium grey table cloth and white napkins, white plates and simple cutlery. The Birkby House provided beautiful gold chivari chairs that gave the table elegance and didn't cost us anything to rent. When we found out that The Birkby House had a wedding the Friday night before my daughter's Saturday evening wedding and we couldn't do the wedding rehearsal on the grounds, Jonathan suggested we look at the Log Cabin behind Tuskies for the rehearsal and the rehearsal dinner since the number in our wedding party and family were just around 30 people. It worked out perfectly and prevented our wedding party from having to travel too far from the hotels where they were staying. Tuskies and South Street staff and food exceeded our expectations from the planning, tasting, the suggestions and of course the compliments we received during and after the wedding about the appetizers and buffet. Take a bow Jonathan & Beth!
Tuscarora Mill's food is delicious, the venue is beautiful, and Angela, the event coordinator, is awesome!
1. Angela answered all of my questions and concerns in a timely manner.
2. They have different menus you can choose from for your event, but you are able to make changes. We wanted the duck instead of chicken, and they were very accommodating.
3. Since my wedding was only 30 people the event was in the wine cellar, which is extremely beautiful and doesn't require decorating not less you would like to.
4. The main thing is that the food was AMAZING!! I hate when I go to a wedding and the food is nasty. The fact that this was a wedding, and they had to cook food in bulk didn't diminish the quality of the cuisine being served to my guest.
I highly recommend Tuscarora Mill. This is definitely one of me and my husbands favorite restaurants.
My wife and I used Tuskies for our wedding rehearsal dinner, and I am so happy that we did. I shopped around Leesburg, Purcellville, etc., and Tuskies was priced virtually the same as most other places. Angela Deane was great to work with setting everything up. She was very responsive and flexible with our planning process. We had almost 50 people, and 3 different entree options, and all I heard everyone talking about all night was how delicious everything was, including the appetizer plates we ordered. It was most definitely delicious to me as well, and exceeded my expectations. The wait staff that was handling the group was also excellent. They were attentive, but knew the right time to allow the group to do our speeches, and were not pushy about rushing through service. Only complaint is that the bar closed to early after we moved upstairs afterward, but that was probably a good thing for the groom! We got so many compliments on the rehearsal location, and I would recommend Tuskies to anyone for a wedding rehearsal or other event.
We hosted our rehearsal reception at Tuscarora Mill's private room the Wine Cellar. Angela Dean was a pleasure to work with. Incredibly responsive, professional, and friendly. She provided a lot of guidance in terms of food selection- we wanted a more casual evening so we did standing and passed appetizers and desserts with an open bar. The food was delicious- we received many rave reviews on the mini grilled cheese sandwiches, the crab dip, and the carrot cake. It was wonderful to have our own space for our Bridal Party and guests to mingle and get to know one another. After the Rehearsal Reception we opened up the room to out of town guests. If you are getting married in the Leesburg/Loundon Co. Vineyard area this is a great option for a rehearsal dinner. Additionally, Tuscorara Mills prints a great map of the Vineyards and we were able to get copies to include in our hotel gift bags which was a nice added touch of information for our out of town guests.
I had my rehearsal dinner here on a Thursday night. We rented the downstairs "wine cellar," but the name is misleading. The building is on a hill, so this wine cellar is a walk out room as well. It held my party of 30 comfortably, I wouldn't think any more than 40 though.
The food was excellent (made the food at my wedding the next day seem pretty crappy in comparison.. :( ). We ended up going with the buffet, which was great because everyone wanted to try everything and go back for seconds of some.
The service was also good, although it was a buffet and a little bar in the room, so there wasn't much service to give. I'll bet I'd notice if it were missing though, so yes, good service.
Angela was a great person to work with here. She is actually the reason we decided to go with them as our rehearsal dinner location (that and the actual food!).
She works with you for your budget, meal choices, and any other details you may need. She's so sweet and flexible that whenever we stopped by, appointment or not, she was ready and willing to help us with big or small questions.
All the staff, food, and venue were superb. I don't know what I can't say about them for deliciousness all around!
If you are getting married in the Leesburg area you must consider using Tuskies. Angela is short of the wedding catering "angel". She helped us create our menu and didn't lock us into something she kept asking "what do you want?" versus many of the venues say "this is what you're going to get". She was super responsive and helpful. The food was raved about as were the signature cocktails. The cost ultimately was better than all of the other vendors and it included rental of all of the "food" related items including linens. She took so much stress and additional work off of our shoulders and most of all my new family from the "north" now love grits!
