We used Diane for our fall 2024 wedding and we've been in such a state of marital bliss that we're extremely late in giving this review actually!
From the get-go, Diane hustled hard for us and we knew from the moment we met her, she had our back.... she's direct, friendly, and goes out of her way to make the food special for her clients and ensured we had a smooth, stress-free experience. If anything went wrong the day of our wedding, we had no idea. Diane is SO together in fact, that she handled things that probably some of our other vendors dropped the ball on. She handled a large portion of our rentals which was so helpful.... always giving advice when asked, and gently nudging us back on course if she saw a problem arising (the rentals and the food were all included on one bill, very helpful). Much to my relief as well, she totally got a lot of our more uncommon requests for our wedding, including venue, time of day, flow of day, and style, and made it all flow seamlessly with a ton of moving parts--including orchestrating our bourbon toast (instead of champagne) and our "heirloom" family dessert table along with a small cake, which she set up for us beautifully alongside her catering setup.
Now for the food.....I (the bride) am from KY, and both my husband and I really wanted to showcase some traditional KY foods, while accommodating a large variety of dietary requests, including mine--every version of an app or station we requested, she made a vegetarian version of as well as the regular. The food across the board was so delicious, and contrary to popular belief, you CAN enjoy the food at your wedding when you have Diane, because she personally made us each a plate and brought it to us. She and her staff throughout the event anticipated everything.... we were never without water, a drink, or food. One of my favorite moments of the day was in the few minutes before I walked down the aisle, I was getting sooooo nervous and Diane strolled by, took one look at me and handed me my Bride's Cocktail (a delicious Paper Plane, ty Diane's bartenders for perfecting) and said "here try it for me to be sure it's right", with a little wink. The laugh I got from that made me giggle for the rest of the day. Our guests were so impressed and loved every bit they put on their plates.
She's truly Type A in the best way possible and allayed so many of this very Type A bride's fears of disaster along the way. Highly recommend Diane if you want someone who cares, and who will absolutely show up from day 1 for you and your partner to have a special, enjoyable, and stress free wedding day!
I DO NOT RECOMMEND type A Catering. Being a COVID-19 couple, we were unable to have our planned wedding of 150 people on our original wedding date, due to government guidelines. Although we did consider rescheduling, we decided to not put our loved ones at risk during uncertain times. Diane considered this a cancellation on our part. We were prepared to lose our non-refundable deposit of $500 to hold the date but were shocked/disappointed when we were informed that our first payment installment (deposit with contract) of $3,977.05 wouldn’t be refunded either. The decision to not reschedule wasn’t a decision we took lightly, with our vendors in mind. Diane gave us a food/beverage credit (for a year). Although in my opinion, during a pandemic I feel her decision was indecent to keep our deposits and not offer a refund at a later date, but only a credit. A pandemic is unprecedented times and it was unfair/unkind to handle business in this manner when I was fearful to reschedule our wedding during uncertainty.
Working with Diane was SO easy! We had a fairly tight budget and she was an absolute magician when it came to keeping costs down. The food at our wedding was phenomenal- and yes, we actually were able to eat at our wedding because she filled us plates from the buffet and hand delivered them to our table! The food tasted even better than it did at our tasting. Would 100% recommend her!
Diane and the team at Type A were wonderful for our wedding. From the food to the bar, and her flexibility when our guest count dropped significantly, she worked to give us exactly the menu we envisioned and was very accommodating. Our guests were so complimentary all evening on the food and beverage service. Thank you so much for making our wedding such an enjoyable occasion!
Diane is amazing! I hired Type A for appetizers and bar services. The prices were the lowest I found while the service was incredible! Everyone had a wonderful time and they cut people off when they needed to be cut off. It made my wedding that much for enjoyable.
Diane. Is. FABULOUS! There are not enough words for how wonderful Diane and her Type A catering staff were for our wedding this past December 30, 2017. Diane and Type A Catering & Events was recommended to us by Sarah Burton at The Simply Love Studio and we were not disappointed. We met Diane at The Bridal Bliss Evening Classic and were able to sample some of her delicious options for cocktail hour (her baked brie and homemade pimento cheese is shut the front door amazing)! Diane was quick to respond when we reached out to her about setting up a meeting. We knew that we had to work with her after our first consultation. Diane is thorough in every sense of the word, which was fantastic for this teacher/Type A personality bride!
All of our communication with Diane was professional, prompt, and detailed. She answered every question that we had promptly and with professionalism whether it was by phone or e-mail. She made herself incredibly accessible to us prior to our wedding day through multiple meetings and phone/e-mail communication. Our wedding day menu tasting was done with many months to spare and was incredibly enjoyable. Diane truly has a gift for organization and an eye for details. Our menu was fabulous (we did a cocktail hour, open bar, and served 2 entrees with sides and salad/bread) and she did a fantastic job making recommendations for things like linens and table set-up that added to the overall feeling of inclusion/family that we wanted our wedding reception to convey. Our cocktail hour was a hit and when myself and our bridal party arrived after the cocktail hour, my groom and I were immediately met with our plates filled and ready to go and Diane personally took our drink requests. My mom later let me know that she had done the same thing for her and my dad when they arrived at our reception as well as my husband, Chris's parents.
Diane met the dietary needs for several of our guests with grace and efficiency. She made separate vegetarian meals for several guests/vendors that I'm told were delicious, as well as 2 separate meals for 2 of our guests that needed gluten-free options. Both guests commented that they have never felt so well-cared for by a wedding caterer as they were by Diane. It was true service. All of our bartenders/servers appeared pleasant and professional, she manages her staff efficiently and with true leadership. Diane even helped us set up a late-night s'mores bar for our guests and to appease my husband's sweet tooth! :) Did I mention she provided gluten-free crackers to our 2 guests with dietary restrictions just for the s'mores bar?! Diane is very affordable and met our every request/need. Her food is delicious and she is a wonderful person to work with. I highly recommend her for your wedding or next event where you need catering. Diane will not disappoint!
Type A Catering is truly the best caterer in Central Kentucky. Diane is a dream to work with and acts as a wedding planner ensuring all of your linens, plates, utensils, etc. match are exactly what you envisioned for your big day. She is a full service planner and her staff go above and beyond to make your wedding perfect!
The food is beyond amazing. All of our guests raved about the food and my coworkers were asking for leftovers the week after our wedding because they loved it all so much. Our tasting was delicious and the food the day of our wedding tasted the exact same.
She also really wants to work with you to hit your budget number. We changed our minds countless times and Diane was extremely accommodating to our requests.
There aren't enough great words to say about Diane and her staff at Type A Catering!
Diane and her team were amazing! All of the food looked and tasted amazing!! I highly recommend!!
Diane was fabulous she literally was my wedding planner. She helped with all my rentals worked with me on ways to save $$ since I did an outdoor venue. The food turned out fabulous and had an all Kentucky theme to it with southern green beans, shrimp and grits, bourbon glazed meatballs, bourbon glazed brisket, and dijon chicken. It was all to die for and guests complimented us all night long for the food. The service was amazing she worked with us since we decided to provide our own alcohol. Many other caters would not work with me on this. I could not thank Diane enough because my wedding went so smoothly thanks to her! She is a great caterer and works with any budget! I highly recommend her !!
I am very thankful with Diane for all the time and help she put in my event. It was perfect!. I came to her with no idea on organizing a wedding and she help me with every step to get the wedding of my dreams!
I'm not even sure where to begin on this one... If I had my wedding to do all over again, I would start by choosing Type A Catering first and letting Diane guide me through the rest of the process! Diane began by meeting with us to get a sense of our vision for our wedding. Throughout the process, I knew that she understood what we were going for and had the resources and knowledge to make our big day the wedding of our dreams. We served appetizers, had an open bar, had plated salads and bread, and served a buffet style dinner. With Type A, we could afford to all of that within our budget. Our guests (and us!) have raved about the food ever since. (Of course, we already knew that the food would be great, because Diane had helped us narrow down our ideas to some excellent recipes of hers, and had let us sample them beforehand--for free.) The service staff was attentive and efficient. We loved the food that was served at our wedding, it was a great value, and we had excellent service, but that isn't what makes Type A, and Diane, stand out in my mind. What makes Diane so indispensable is her expertise in every area of wedding planning. Although I "only" hired Diane as my caterer (she does offer coordination services as well), she had a hand in many other aspects. She helped me decide on the layout of the tables, went to the rental company to help me pick linens, met with me and the staff at my venue a couple of times to look over our options, designed signature drinks for our bar service, made matching labels to coordinate with my other features at the reception, helped me pick out wedding favors, created a timeline of the wedding day with me, and on and on I could go. The day before the wedding, our sparklers had not arrived, and Diane even managed to find some and take care of that for us! Our wedding was on the hottest day of the year, and we had planned to use the patio space at our venue. Diane made sure that things were rearranged inside to make our guests more comfortable. It was one decision on the day of the wedding that I did not have to worry about. She made sure that we (the bride and groom) ate at the reception and had plenty of water. She helped us pull of a surprise champagne tower for our wedding party--which went off without a hitch! She took care of every last detail so that we could relax and enjoy the day. I texted Diane more than I care to admit during my wedding planning, and she was always readily available with a helpful answer or a new idea. Here's my point: You need someone at your wedding that is an expert, someone who can understand your vision and make sure things are done to your satisfaction without you having to worry. I had no stress, because I knew that my reception was in her very capable hands. You can count on Diane's professionalism and perfectionism. Type A is the only way to go! (No, she really didn't pay me for this gushy review, she's just THAT good.)
The food was great, but the service was extremely lacking. We ordered a sweet tea and coffee set up, but my wedding planner had to make the sweet tea herself, and a drop of coffee was never served. Our initial quote was based on 175 people, however AFTER I paid the deposit, she expressed concern with that number of people in our venue - even though it was all the same as when she made the quote, so there were not any surprises. If I had not already made the deposit, I am certain I would not have hired her with that kind of attitude before any planning had really began. Our reception ended up with 200 people and Diane seemed very overwhelmed, despite knowing that was the planned number of guests. While 200 is a large number, for a professional caterer it should not be a challenge.
We requested a dozen vegetarian meals and made her aware of which tables the people receiving those meals were at, however many of those guests, my brother included, never received his special meal. It was clear she had not used some of these servers before and they had no idea what they were doing. The food was great, but the poor service and lack of professionalism did not make up for that.
We booked Type A Catering last winter from a friend's recommendation. Diane and her staff went above and beyond to make our day special and to execute my vision. Before we met the first time, Diane had found my pinterest board so she already knew what I was looking for. Everything, the food, the bar, the service were above par, and I would happily recommend them to anyone looking for top notch catering and planning services.
Type A Catering is truly the best there is. The food was amazing and Diane is a gem to work with. She helped me tremendously on the tough decisions and made my wedding day the best day ever! We selected a very "non-traditional" menu and Diane and Lauri were very accommodating when it came to selecting our menu - we had so many guests comment on how wonderful the food was and that it was the "best they'd ever had at a wedding'. I'm thinking of hiring them again to recreate it on our 1st Anniversary! Selecting Type A Catering was the best vendor decision I made by far!!
Diane was excellent to work with throughout the whole planning process. Diane and her chef really embraced our desire to use Kentucky products and give our guests a farm to table experience. On our wedding day, her team was excellent! Diane took charge and helped calm any nerves and relieve any stress that I had. Andy and I felt they took great care of us and our guests. Many of our guests raved about the food. My mother said it was the best she had ever had at a wedding! Thank you Type A Catering for being a part of our big day!!!!!
I met Diane through a bridal show in July 2011. I was impressed with her drive as well as her obvious talent to produce dishes that were appreciated and devoured by all. After meeting her, we were able to set-up a meeting to discuss the type of wedding we were planning as well as a tasting of the dishes we were most interested in, all without having to book our event with her beforehand.
After we booked our wedding with Diane, we quickly learned that we were able to trust her judgement as well as her knowledge of event planning in order to properly prepare for our wedding. That is nearly priceless to a bride when she cannot predict what type of problems might come up on the wedding day, but we had peace knowing that Diane would be able to handle it. She was a true professional who cares about the event her client is planning, and should be considered for any event that you might be planning in the Central Kentucky area.
The only reason she isn't rated a 5-star in service is because the staff that was hired to serve the bar were heavily over-serving our guests, which led to us running out of some of our alcohol too quickly. Those things aren't always known by the caterer, themselves, until after the problem has occurred and they can't always control the staff they're given to work certain events. That being said, I was still perfectly happy with everything that she was directly related to, and hope you seriously consider using her for your event.
