Family-owned and operated, Union Horse Distilling Company is an award-winning distillery in Lenexa, KS. The Event Space at the distillery offers a unique, stylish venue for your wedding day. Founded in 2010, the Garcia family set up the company out of the desire to bring something new to their hometown, Kansas City.
There has not been something quite like Union Horse Distilling Company in Kansas City since before Prohibition. This, combined with their desire to produce “grain-to-glass” whiskies and create a unique establishment is what made the distillery. Their impressive event space boats 6,500 square feet and accommodates wedding receptions of 50 to 350 guests. Hardwood floors, leather accessories and natural lighting pool throughout the entire venue and creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Their three rooms, The Stable, Ride Room and The Paddock, have something different in each space for you to choose from.
Their versatile building is available for an array of celebrations at your wedding. My daughter got married 9/30/22. We had a reception of 75+ at Union Horse! This place was amazing! Parker (event coordinator) was terrific! He was so easy to work with and answered all our questions promptly! Planning a reception is stressful but he definitely eased the process. He even helped us fill up all our glass vases with water fur the set up! Gold Star!!! The place is unique and beautiful, I had so many guest comment on how cool of a place the venue was! Don’t hesitate book now! You won’t regret it! We also had a open bar and the bar tender was so kind and just fun to work with! Our guest enjoyed her as well (unfortunately I am forgetting her name) but she was excellent! No complaints would use Union Horse again 😀
I cannot recommend this venue enough as a perfect place to throw an event. Parker, the event coordinator was absolutely a pleasure to work with. From the first request for information to leaving the event, Parker and the Union Horse team were so responsive and helpful. And the venue is BEAUTIFUL. The nice thing too is that if you host an event (even in one of their small rooms) it guarantees that you will be the only event at Union Horse the whole night. Fantastic place to host parties from small to medium/large and the price and bar packages are a fantastic deal. Do yourself a favor and book your next event here and Parker will make it perfect.

Great venue space, not even much you need to decorate. It has it's own style and the ambience is lovely!
Where do I start? The team at Union Horse is wonderful! They are quick to respond, helpful and curteous. Dylan was awesome to work with. I must have sent him 20 emails throughout our planning process, and he responded fairly quickly to each one. He answered all my questions and clarified things for me when I asked. The event space is great. It has a wonderful layout, and plenty of space for guests to move about/dance comfortably. The back bar has a very 'speakeasy' feel to it and that was pretty cool. The bridal suite is phenomenal. The decor is gorgeous, the room is spacious, and there is plenty of seating. They offer competitive pricing, and their bar package is great. *I recommend their vodka* Everyone that I spoke with, that attended my reception, told me how awesome the space was! I would highly recommend Union Horse to anyone looking for a venue (wedding, reception, or both)!!!
Union Horse was absolutely wonderful to work with and walked us through all the details that we needed to make things run smoothly the day of the wedding. It is a gorgeous, comfortable yet elegant space that had room for all of our guests. Mary and the team were awesome and helped us fit our guests where we wanted them and she was there to answer questions whenever we needed. We had many compliments on the bartenders as well as the venue! Definitely take a look at this place - I didn't even know it existed until I started looking for reception venues and I'm so glad I found them!
Union Horse is without a doubt the best venue in the KC area. The venue is gorgeous and the staff is top notch. The bartenders made some amazing drinks. They provide you a coordinator who makes sure the layout is exactly what you want. They have so many unique furniture pieces that fit the decor of the space. Absolutely recommended to everyone.

Mary and her team at UHD made our special day go off without a hitch! Our guests could not stop raving about how beautiful the facilities were and we could not agree more! Being from out of town, they worked with us to make sure everything was set up perfectly and they were so very flexible when we had major changes at the last minute. We are forever grateful to them for making our day absolutely perfect in every way possible!
Stephanie did an amazing job coordinating our reception!! My guests still talk about the unique venue and the tasty drinks.
Pros: 3 spaces to choose from, little decorating needed, could do wedding and reception there (we didn't), bridal and groom suite, outdoor patio with fire pit, staff is very helpful, multiple bar options available, beautiful areas for photo ops
Cons: limited approved catering options, limited time for setting up if the ceremony isn't taking place at the venue, felt rushed at the end of the night to get everything and everyone out within defined times before we were charged
Overall, fantastic, unique venue that we were very impressed with.
We got married on 8/20/16, and could not have been more pleased with Union Horse! The staff is helpful with planning, the bar packages are great, and the space is BEAUTIFUL and unique, and as a bonus for me, requires very little decorating. Our guests loved the bar area; a modern rustic feel with oversized comfy furniture, separate from the dance floor which allows people to mingle a little more. One of my favorite spaces was the bridal suite and groomsmen quarters- the bridal suite is gorgeous, with several floor to ceiling mirrors. I can't wait to see our "getting ready" pictures! Stephanie was fantastic to work with, very laid back and knowledgeable, and made the planning process SO much easier. Worth every penny, we hope to be back for smaller events!
What an amazing venue for a wedding reception! Dylan and his staff did a wonderful job making everything for my daughter's big day go seamless. Everyone is still talking about what a cool place Union Horse is! Such a great experience!
This is a little late posting and we got married in January but The Dark Horse was the perfect venue! We had Stephanie as our wedding coordinator and we could not have asked for someone better. She was constantly in contact with us and keeping us up to date with what was going on. Would recommend them to anyone looking for a great wedding venue! 2 thumbs up to Stephanie and the staff there!! :)
Stephanie and all the staff at Dark Horse Distillery were great! Stephanie made sure that everything went smoothly and stress free. We didn't have to worry about anything because Stephanie was already on top of it. All of our guests loved the venue and thought it was so unique and classy. We had both our ceremony and reception here. The venue was the perfect size for 130 guests. We were so delighted with how everything turned out, I wish we could do it all over again! Mary and Stephanie were so easy to communicate with and almost immediately responded to my questions. We'll be sure to recommend this venue to our friends and family for their special events.
I cannot even begin to express my gratitude to Mary and everyone at Dark Horse in helping plan and execute our wedding (ceremony + reception). I am quite the type A planner, and had a million questions for her – all of which were answered very quickly. I loved that we were able to bounce ideas off of each other, and this helped my wedding day be the absolute best it could be. Mary was there for whatever we needed, from drink recipes to table placement to third-party vendor suggestions, she knew it all! I cannot imagine our wedding taking place anywhere else other than Dark Horse – we heard from the majority of our guests that this was the best wedding they had ever been to! If you want the utmost perfect wedding location, Dark Horse is the place!!
We had a FABULOUS time last night at Dark Horse Distillery for my birthday get together. The location is great with lots of well lighted parked. Their outdoor space is super cute, nicely landscaped with a large patio space complete with lots of seating, a pergola and fire pit. If it hadn't been freezing and snowy, I could have hung out there all night! They even customized a little chalkboard sign to wish me Happy Birthday, it totally made my night. Geoff, the bartender, greeted us right away and welcomed us into the space. It was so gorgeous all decorated for the holidays. Having a corporate party or "off season" wedding there would be smart because half the decorating is already done for you. I can imagine having an evening wedding there with the distillery as your backdrop would be lovely. They have tons of décor, nice tables, chairs and leather sofas. The cocktails were amazing, I had one of each. Joe and Jay took us on a great and VERY informative tour. I learned a ton about whiskey (love their white whiskey, really unique). The tasting afterward was so interesting, make sure to eat before you come! Great product, great space, great employees. . . . I'm a customer for life. Well done!
My husband and I had both, our wedding and reception, at Dark Horse this past November and I can say without a doubt it was the best decision we could have made. Not only did Mary and the team at Dark Horse help us pull off a flawless event, but the guest were wowed by the space. It is just stunning! The signature His and Hers cocktails were also a big hit! The venue was the perfect size for our 150ish guests and I loved having the distinguished space for the ceremony separate from the reception. It was so perfect I wish we could do it all over again!
We fell in love with Dark Horse from the moment we walked into the event space. I'm a huge bourbon drinker and my husband loves his whiskey so we couldn't think of a better venue to represent us as a couple. The space is beyond beautiful! Minimal decor is needed and the style fits various types of themes. Stephanie, our event manager was incredibly responsive and never made me feel like I was being crazy with the questions I was asking (even though I know I kind of was). As far as cost goes, they're on the pricier side, but nothing like some of the empty warehouses downtown. Whenever I'm asked I will always recommend this venue, they're awesome!
Our wedding day was perfect and we owe a lot of that to Mary and the team at Dark Horse. All day long, people kept commenting that I was such a calm bride. I don’t think I would have been nearly as calm if we had gotten married somewhere else. We did both our ceremony and reception at Dark Horse. Mary was so patient with my type A, obsessive planning personality and met with us many times so I could see things about the venue in person again and ask her questions about how the day would go. She struck the perfect balance of helping me figure out how to have the day go as I pictured it, but still brought her experience as a wedding venue coordinator of what works and what doesn’t to make sure my expectations were realistic and that the day would be successful. The day went off without a hitch and that was even with our slightly wild groomsmen and less than cooperative ring bearer. I was able to walk down the aisle not thinking about anything but my soon-to-be husband standing at the other end. Outside of Mary and the team being fantastic, the venue itself is also really unique. The whiskey barrels and distillery are a cool background and made for great pictures. The different rooms each have a bit of a different feel and we were able to use one for the ceremony, one for cocktail hour, and one for the reception. The leather chairs, chandeliers, and barn door create a venue that somehow feels both rustic and modern. There’s also a great patio if it’s the right season. We used the bride’s and groom’s quarters to get ready there which was really fun and provided plenty of space for the whole bridal party. Between the great place and the great team working there, I would recommend Dark Horse to anyone!
DHD made our day even more special! Mary was so helpful throughout the wedding process; right from the time we decided on the venue until the wedding day. She was on top of everything and was very prompt with responses. We felt like Mary and DHD really cared to make our day special.
Throughout the event, Mary made sure everything was going smoothly and took care of lot of stuffs (managing vendors, etc.) that we didn't even think of. It made everything so much easier and allowed us have our moment rather than having to worry about other details.

All our guests loved the venue and everyone enjoyed thoroughly. If we get married again, we would choose Dark Horse in a heartbeat. Thank you for making it so much easier and letting us enjoy our day!!!!!

We got engaged in January 2015 and wanted to get married in August 2015 ... when we called to check availability, we were told the venue was booked from May through the end of the year, but one couple had recently put Aug. 1 on hold. There was a chance they would opt out, and when they did a couple of days later, we booked immediately. The space is beautiful - rustic and modern at the same time, lots of dark wood and glass and the unmistakeable smell of the distillery business throughout the space. We had a smaller number of attendees so we chose to use only the Rider Room and it was perfect for our 45 guests. Stephanie was terrific to work with throughout the planning process. The alcohol obviously is part of booking this space, and the liquor Dark Horse produces is top notch. The signature drink they made for us was a huge hit - we will be providing the recipe to our attendees in our thank you notes!
We could not have asked for a better venue! We used the space just for our reception. This unique space is gorgeous and the staff is downright AMAZING! As soon as we pulled in the parking lot Stephanie met us outside to sweep us away to the bridal suite and the first words out of her mouth were "what do you need, I'm getting you a drink". Which was just what we needed! We were able to have some time to ourselves before the reception in the beautiful bridal suite and grooms quarters.
We live in Chicago so we had to do all of our planning via email, phone calls and facetime and Stephanie was a joy to work with. She made us feel so comfortable and we knew we were in good hands. We still have guests telling us it was the best wedding they've ever been too and how did we find such an amazing place. My husband and I cannot say enough good things about DHD and the staff. If you're thinking about DHD, DO IT! You won't regret it!
This venue provided exactly what my husband and I were looking for...someplace that we were able to focus only on having and celebrating our wedding with an incredible party!
We met with Stephanie prior to the wedding to discuss the layouts in all 3 rooms that we chose to use and also bar options. She made us feel so incredibly comfortable that we KNEW dealing with her at that venue everything would go incredibly smooth. She wasn't a "brown-noser" but just authentically helpful and that made us even more comfortable.
The venue is beyond gorgeous and all of our guests were impressed with the comfortable feel AND the wonderful drinks (including signature drinks).
This is our second marriage and this venue and staff allowed our wedding day to be what it was supposed to be, a day celebrating our love and, in our case, the union of 2 sets of children. This may sound like a "too good to be true" review, but I promise it's just how we feel!
We had both our wedding and reception at the Dark Horse Distillery and would do it all over there again in a heartbeat! We were so impressed with the space and all the Dark Horse staff from beginning to end. The amenities at the space are top-quality and set the perfect ambiance for our intimate, evening ceremony. Mary and her staff guided our family & friends with any questions about setting up decor in the space, and took care of every detail that I normally would have had to instruct. She was quick to suggest moves to allow our guests to fully enjoy the space, and they did! The bartenders also wow-ed us with their skill and creativity, providing way more than simple beer pours. Our guests continue to talk about how amazing and unique this venue was. On the expensive side, but worth every penny.
The moment we visited this venue we fell in love with it! We had our wedding and reception at the DHD. The space was perfect and captured the look/feel exactly how we wanted it to be. The venue and staff were amazing! We are still receiving so many complaints about the DHD from many guests who stated it was a beautiful venue. We were so happy with everything, THANK YOU so much for making our wedding perfect!
We loved everything about our experience with Dark Horse Distillery! We had a small wedding with only about 30 guests, and Michelle was so wonderful and accomodating. Every detail turned out perfectly, and our friends and family absolutely loved the space. We used the Rider Room, which is a smaller room with lots of seating and a beautiful bar top. Michelle took care of all the little details - it was so wonderful to know that everything was taken care of. I truly cannot say enough good things about Dark Horse - I would highly recommend them to anyone!
The Dark Horse Distillery was the absolute perfect wedding venue! From beginning to end everything was handled with perfection and professionalism. I was so surprised on my wedding day how often the staff checked on my and the wedding party's needs. It felt like we were royalty and I could not have asked for a more fabulous day.If you are looking for a unique venue for your wedding where guests leave feeling like it's the best wedding they have been to, this is your venue!
Dark Horse Distillery is a beautiful event space, and I loved having our wedding in such a unique venue.
Mary was helpful in organizing the details of the day and worked with our vendors to make sure the event went smoothly.
We did have a setback when it came to bartending, which was provided by DHD. The bartending company hired by DHD changed during our planning process, and we were left scrambling at the last minute to figure out details.
In addition, the outside of the venue leaves much to be desired. A building next door had recently been torn down and was supposed to be turned into a parking lot. This project was extended longer than expected, so my guests had a view of a construction site. In addition, there were sections of the sidewalk missing the day prior to our event. Concrete was poured once my dad voiced his disappointment, but there were still piles of dirt and barricades present when guests arrived. As a relatively new venue, I understand that there are 'growing pains', but I would have appreciated if there had been better communication regarding these issues prior to my event.
Overall, it was a beautiful event space (inside)and had so much character. Both the venue itself and the event staff were very accomodating to our needs on the day of the wedding.

We're glad that you felt our services inside the space were sufficient on your big day and it was a pleasure taking care of all the last minute details leading up to your walk down the aisle! Regarding the bartending company, and as we...
explained at the time, proper licensing and liability weren't in place for you to use them, which would have put not only your guests, but also our company, in peril if something were to happen. In regards to the exteriors, we've had the good fortune to be able to increase our number of parking spaces, but unfortunately weather hindered construction completion. We worked closely with the construction company to ensure that the sidewalks were safe and passable prior to all events that occurred during the construction period. Safety is of the utmost concern at Dark Horse. We're happy to hear that the event space was exactly up to your standards as you remembered it. We wish everything could have been as perfect as you would've liked, but we hope we provided beyond adequate alternatives.

All of our guests are still talking about the DHD and what an amazing venue it is, and we couldn't agree more. Working with Mary and the DHD was so easy, and they helped make our vision come alive! It's a unique setting in KC, and fit us/our wedding perfectly. Check it out-its a must see!
We planned our wedding two months out and the Dark Horse Distillery was wonderful to work with. Mary was very accommodating through out the whole planning process, letting my mother and I come see the space a couple of times prior to the big day.
Day of the event.. Mary had several staff members helping with set-up and a few of them stayed the whole evening ensuring we were taken care of. My mother even made a comment that every time she stood up to get something they were asking if she needed assistance with anything. She was very impressed as well!
Lastly.. since we were married last weekend (11/24/12) around the holiday... the trees lining the walkway were all decorated with white lights. It was so beautiful!
I would definitely recommend Dark Horse Distillery and would work with them again if we ever need event space!
This space is UNbelievable! Beautiful floors, decor, chairs, bar, large patio, big kitchen, and a gorgeous bridal suite. The event coordinator Mary was fantastic!
Be sure to request/plan around the "set-up" and "break-down" time. They only give you 30 mins to break everything down!?! They provided a security guard and allowed us to pick our own vendors. The Lighting in this space is phenomenal and I highly recommend this for a reception.
