I was MOH and used her to cater a bachelorette party - Find another caterer
This is a review and evaluation of the catering service provided by Christi May 2016 for a catered bachelorette party in Rockport, TX. Overall, Christi was enthusiastic, but provided a service far below expectations. This is honest feedback I will go through each event and expectation individually.
The agreed upon service was full service catering from 7-9pm with a menu agreed upon by both parties.
Short Summary - Christi showed up over an hour late with notice only after the event should have started, needing help with set up and clean up, we did not receive 2/3 of the agreed upon menu (some things broke/spilled in transit, some were forgotten, some not even attempted, the carpet needed to be cleaned after chicken juice was spilled from front door to kitchen on white carpet, untimely disruption of the event during food preparation to ask opinions. Dinner served 2.5 hrs late. Cookies stained mouth black, "Specialty drinks" unable to be consumed by most due to taste. All the unopened left over food and drinks were taken home by the caterer. Christi was open to receiving feedback. We agreed on a refund, and less than 1/4 of that refund was paid after an extended amount of time. I do not recommend her for any event.
Menu Summary - Unsatisfied with 6 out of 9 menu items; 4 of 9 menu items were not served at the event, 2 of 9 items were completely inedible (candy and martinis); 1 food item left an undesirable effect (cookies staining mouth black)
The purpose of hiring a professional catering service is to free myself and my guests from food preparation and cleanup of dinner to be served at an agreed upon time. We helped to unload the car (we volunteered to do this to help speed up service since you were running over an hour late), we were free from helping to prepare, then we helped with clean up so we could get to our next event since the catering service ended an hour and a half after expected time. Several other areas of dissatisfaction is that during our gift shower:
I. She tried to get my attention while the bride was opening gifts. The part that upset me about this was that she tried to call me to the kitchen while the bride was opening my gift. This took away from my moment with the bride, and left the bride feeling uncomfortable and interrupted. I felt that we were rushed to eat, and put onto the food's schedule instead of the food being on our schedule due to the tardiness of the beginning of the service.
II. The container with the chicken was leaking, and left a stain of flavored chicken juice on the carpet from the entry of the house, up the stairs, and partially to the kitchen. Now we are left to not only assist in kitchen clean up, but now we need to have the carpets cleaned due to the orange drip trail left by you, the caterer.
III. The leftovers purchased for our party with our money were not left for us. While the opened leftovers remained in our possession, a handle of rum and the remaining bags of unopened chips were not found after she had left. It is my understanding that these things were purchased with the money given to her before the party and therefore should have remained in our possession even if they were not opened at the party.
Save yourself stress and find another caterer!
We hired Christi in June of 2016 to plan our wedding on March 3 of this year, and spent about $2,000 for her services. We had a little trouble getting together due to the fact that I live in Houston and it was hard for me to come down to plan the wedding. This meant that I left a lot of trust in Christi to plan the wedding herself. We met about 3 times in a 9 month span. We discussed a lot of different ideas and we were both very excited. On the day of the wedding, everything was hectic and I decided to only focus on the wedding and not the reception. When we got to the reception (an hour after its starting time), we discovered that all of our guests were waiting in a small area because she was not done decorating. We had paid for an extra 4 hours in addition to the rental of the hall, to make sure that she would have enough time to finish. At the time I did not care; I was just trying to enjoy my time with my new husband. She had told me that there was going to be a "big reveal," (Harry Potter themed) but I never thought she would make my guests wait for an hour and a half before they were even allowed INSIDE the venue. When we walked into the venue, I was very underwhelmed. I stayed behind to let the guests enter first, to be polite, but the real reason was because I was upset. I did not want to enter the room. A LOT of the things that we had discussed were not present. The center pieces were amazing, but they did not make up for the fact that everything else looked horrible. We had seen actual linens at her house, and discussed table runners. The actual tablecloths on the table were made of paper. The table runners we had discussed were cheap wide ribbons from Wal-Mart or Hobby Lobby. She probably spent about $2.00 on each table. I could have done a better job. The reason I hired her was because I had no time to decorate the hall myself, BECAUSE I WAS GETTING MARRIED. I was really looking forward to a nice entryway with luggage, a platform number, and a cage (with a stuffed owl inside), or at least a fake tree (also a spring theme). We had also discussed lanterns that were about hip level around the hall. There was nothing. There was a thin string of lights over the door. Her “memento” to us was a cheap graduation picture frame with a low quality print-out of the Whomping Willow in the center. The cheap guest book I had purchased as a backup was WAY better. It was too late to use it though, because she had already had people sign (the wrong side of) the cheap picture frame. Don’t get me wrong, she is a really nice lady and part of the reason I did not say anything was to spare her feelings. However, when I saw her make another post about “all” the things she offers for “$2, 000,” I had to speak out. We did not get half of the things we were promised, and the only reason the wedding was great and went off without a hitch was our AMAZING photographer/ disc jockey. I was so disappointed with the decorations. “Simple” does not mean cheap, Christi. We paid you $2,000, and we definitely did NOT get what we paid for. It was nice, but not $2,000 nice. We were also disappointed that our head table was a long table, and it did not even fit our whole wedding party. We had previously discussed a private, sweetheart table. I also did not like how the words “Mr. and Mrs.” were very small and blended into the table. Again, with prior notice I could have purchased better ones. Very unprofessional service.
The wedding planner did not show up to the event I was attending. I was in the bridal party that picked up the slack. The bride was informed 7 days prior to her wedding that she was "quarantined and not able to attend". She tried to send her family to help, but they were certainly not professional wedding planners and although they did the best they could, could not and did not make a smooth night. The bridal party was able to pull things together based on the bride's pinterest board, but the fees associated with the Wedding Planners were lost. A very unfortunate way to have the most important day in your life go. Very disorganized.
Love that she is patient with us. Especially now and the communication is always kept whether it's email ,phone,or text.
