I got married here about a month ago. Below is part of an email I sent to the owner, with no response.
I arrived at the venue around 8:30am to start setting up the Summit Room and the Terrace. The chairs for the ceremony were half set up and the Terrace was still left from the event the night prior. I knew the manager would be at the venue a little later, but that was all I knew and I wasn't sure who else to speak to about setting up. So, my bridal party and I asked the lady at the front desk (I think her name was Mary) basically what was going on and when things were going to get moved. She said they had a big event the night prior, and it went late. I understood this. However, time kept ticking by and nothing was being moved out of the Terrace room. I arrived early in hopes that I could set up for my wedding right away and then relax and get ready before the ceremony. My bridal party took it upon themselves to finish setting up the chairs in the Summit Room (I would come back every so often to check and not much was being done) and started to move tables out of the Terrace. We ended up having to vacuum the Summit Room because it was clearly not done before setting up chairs. There was food on the floor and towards the back of the room I found q-tips sitting on a ledge. I dont believe this would have been picked up because the chairs were already beginning to get set up where these things were found. We asked the front desk questions here and there (Because again, she was the only employee around) and she was rude to almost everyone that spoke to her. She kept talking about the event the night prior and eventually my friend said "I dont care about the night before anymore, right now we're trying to set up this wedding" and the front desk lady responded with "Well this is America". Whatever that means. She seemed to care more about the club members and acted as if we were an inconvenience. I was really confused and frustrated with what was going on and the lack of staff there to help us.
Guests were to start arriving at 2:30pm and I was worried things would not be done in time. Eventually I had to leave it to my family and wedding party and go downstairs to start getting ready. Had my friends and family not taken it upon themselves to move furniture and clean, I truly believe my wedding would have been a disaster. I was almost in tears because I knew things would not be set up and decorated how I had hoped. I planned this event for months and had an image in my head on what I wanted for my wedding. I was trying to be proactive and give myself enough time to get ready but the lack of help from the venue pushed this back. I had to rush getting ready, was not able to relax and was frustrated the entire time.
So much time was wasted trying to pick up from the night before.. picking up someone else's mess. The manager showed up that afternoon, I'm not exactly sure what time. She did not speak to me the entire day/night. I think my husband spoke to her a few times, but she did not ask me how things were going or acknowledge what happened that day.
Eventually I stopped caring about everything and tried to enjoy the day.
This was my wedding day.
My husband and I spent thousands of dollars, had high hopes, and were ultimately disappointed.
The place is beautiful and the food was great. Other than that, I wouldn’t recommend.

We had reserved both the Summit room and Terrace. Our experience with the University Club from about 4 months prior to the wedding was an absolute nightmare.
Around end of June, we stopped receiving any and all communication from our assigned coordinator, Amanda. Weeks of unanswered emails and phone calls went by. End of August, I received one email response from Danielle, answering one question (out of many) that I had asked in previous emails, and ignoring my requests for an in-person meeting, as it was stated in the contract we would have an in-person meeting 4 weeks prior. It was at this point we were informed our previous coordinator, Amanda, was no longer with the U Club. We were told, “we thought she was still handling some weddings” even after her departure. No one knew if our wedding was included in that. There was no introduction from our new coordinator Danielle, no assurance that she would now be taking over and no apology. Early September, about three weeks before the wedding, my fiancé was finally able to get ahold of Danielle. He was also able to speak to the owner of the U Club, John Rupp. He shared our immense disappointment regarding the lack of communication. While doing so, John Rupp told him that if we were so disappointed, we should just not have our wedding at his venue. This was three weeks before and a completely inappropriate response. Eventually, we were able to have our in-person meeting at the venue and were promised the following from both John and Danielle: Communication would be 100% better from that point on. Our wedding day would go perfectly. Our wedding would receive the most attention out of any wedding they had planned for the year. None of these promises were met. My email to Danielle the week of the wedding went unanswered. We had a rehearsal the day before and walk in to the reception layout, not the ceremony. We had to wait 45 minutes for everything to be taken down and reset to the ceremony to begin the rehearsal. We are then late to our own rehearsal dinner. The wedding day arrives. I walk into the venue expecting my guests to be seated in the Summit room so I could sneak into the Terrace room, that would supposed to be closed, unseen. I walk in to almost all of my guests staring at me, who have now seen me prior to the wedding. I had to stand in their public restroom, crying and humiliated, as my 8-months pregnant Maid of Honor corralled my wedding guests into the Summit room. As a woman, I’ve spent my entire life imagining that first moment of walking down the aisle and my guests and groom seeing me for the first time. This moment was ruined for me. Additionally, no one knew where the flowers were (they were delivered to the venue hours prior), and I again had to send my 8-months pregnant Maid of Honor to run around the venue gathering the flowers, my bouquet, the boutonnières and my mother-in-law’s corsage. Danielle was no where to be found. Not once did Danielle check on me prior to the ceremony. After the ceremony, while we were taking photos, I noticed that random dinner name cards were being moved. I asked my Maid of Honor to please get Danielle for me. This was the only time I spoke to Danielle the entire day, after having to have someone get her for me. Dinner begins and we are served a salad with no dressing. It is inedible. My husband has to get up from the head table and ask them to dress our salads. The entrees come out much later than anticipated, and they are cold. Almost all of our guests ordered the New York Strip, and the steak was rubbery and flavorless. We are informed by a guest that the coffee that was put out for guests to help themselves to, has a dead fly floating inside the canister. After dinner, my husband and I are trying to salvage our enjoyment of the day, when we are informed by my brother and his girlfriend, that the ceiling had just leaked dirty water all over them. It started raining around 4 PM this day. Around 10 PM, we walk around the Summit and Terrace room and find 6 separate places that water is leaking in from the roof. 4 places in the Terrace room, one being directly over their piano that got covered in dirty water, and two in the Summit room, one being directly over a guest table covering it in dirty water. My own brother and his girlfriend left my wedding early from being soaked in disgusting water. Our guest book and card box got wet. Phones left on the table in the Summit room got rained on. My husband had to get one of the two people still left there for the night (a bartender and a server) to let him know we were being rained on. When my husband asked if they were aware previously that the ceiling leaks, we were told the owner, John Rupp, was aware and knowingly has not done anything about it. Please see the photos attached of the dirty rain water accumulating all around the rooms we reserved for the most important day of our lives. The day after our wedding, we called John Rupp. When my husband began to explain how terrible our wedding day had gone, John interrupted and said "I'm not doing this with you over the phone". He told my husband to email him to set up a time to meet. John responded to our email nearly a week afterwards, and we were able to meet with him. In the meeting, John himself told us that he was firing our coordinator, Danielle, and that our wedding was a "complete failure". We agreed. We told John the only thing that could make this right, is a full refund of all payments made to the University Club for our wedding. John agreed to a full refund, looked both my husband and myself in the eyes and promised he would make good on this agreement, and shook my husband's hand. That was on September 30th, 2023. John promised we would receive our refund by October 30th, 2023. We have not heard a single thing from him since, and he has not responded to any attempts to contact him since that agreement was made. We are now in the process of legal proceedings. We want to have another ceremony again someday, far, far away from the University Club. I am hopeful someday we'll be made whole and will have that opportunity. Please, if you are seeking communication, edible food and a safe and dry experience for your wedding day, do not use the University Club of Saint Paul.

We had our wedding reception on New Year’s Eve at the University Club. I am giving four stars because unfortunately there were a lot of issues before the wedding day, but the wedding itself was amazing!
We booked the University Club in November of 2022 for a December 2023 wedding reception with their coordinator Danielle. I wanted to get things done early and was really on top of the "standard timeline", so the booking and planning process went well. We did not know this at the time, but the University Club has one person (this was Danielle) covering ALL University Club events so she was VERY busy. Since my event was so far out, I wouldn't hear back for a few weeks if I sent a question via email.
Everything was going smoothly until about one month out from the wedding the event coordinator Danielle unexpectedly left the University Club with no information on who would be helping with our wedding. After receiving this information, I did not hear back from the University Club with next steps for five days and I called and emailed every day. I know job changes can be last minute and stressful for a company, but we were really frustrated with the lack of planning or communication. We had already met with Danielle for our final details meeting where she had taken very thorough notes about the day. I had sent over many wedding documents all in a shared folder and we were told the new person handling the wedding would have access. We find out about two weeks before the wedding that everything I sent over was gone and got deleted when Danielle left. We were very upset and had to re-do and re-send everything which took about four hours of my time.
About two weeks from the wedding we met with Sami, the University Club's front of house person, who was assigned to help with the wedding. Sami did an AMAZING job filling in and trying to figure out the wedding packages and what was planned given the lack of information left for her. We had chosen the Gold Package for our wedding which caused a lot of confusion in the contracts and billing since no one was familiar with the packages. We also were sent the wrong bill for a different wedding happening the same day at one of the University Club's other locations. Overall, this was stressful being just two weeks out. Sami understood our frustration and was able to comp the yogurt and mimosa breakfast in the morning which was very kind.
After we worked everything out the actual wedding went wonderful! It was the perfect night; all the servers and bartenders were great! The food was amazing and everything came out hot and on time! There was a small miscommunication with the bar bill since we had picked the gold package and package # one, but it got resolved a few weeks after the wedding.
Overall, we WOULD recommend the University Club. It was beautiful and Sami did the best she could with the information she had. I would not book unless they have a new coordinator hired to fill that role!

We just had our wedding at St. Paul Athletic Club and it turned out absolutely PERFECT!!! We had a few changes in venue coordinators over the months we were planning but ultimately ended up working with Amanda and she was SO great! Super easy to communicate with, answered all my questions and went above and beyond to make sure it was the day we wanted! All of our guests talked about how cool the historic venue was and loved the convenience of having everything in one place! We used the lobby for the ceremony, the 3rd floor bar area for the cocktail hour and the beautiful ballroom for the reception and dinner! Not to mention the getting ready suites were SO cool and huge! The only thing to call out would be that it's impossible to control people coming in and out of the lobby since it's a hotel but security made sure everyone was quiet! Overall, I highly recommend!! We had the best day ever and a million compliments!!

We got married at the University Club and got ready at The Davidson Hotel. Kelli and Julia made our dream wedding a reality! The staff was very helpful and good at their job. The gentleman who served our rehearsal dinner AND bartended for it due to being short staffed worked SO hard. We were very impressed. The only downfall for us was there was another party happening in the building at the same time so we ended up with some people who crashed our wedding and were VERY intoxicated and one of our guests ended up having to escort them out. Being at a social club like the UC I honestly expected not to have something like that occur. But all in all, it was an amazing experience!

We just had our wedding and reception at the St. Paul Athletic Club and couldn't have imagine a more perfect venue. Julia worked with us throughout the entire process, including several reschedules due to COVID, and made everything painless. She was very organized and made everything seamless. The food was delicious, and the space itself speaks for itself in its classic elegance.

We were married at the St Paul Athletic Club on 8/21/21 and it couldn't have been more perfect. Julia Struve made the planning process smooth and efficient and worked with us to ensure our vision for the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing came to life flawlessly. The prices were more than fair, the food exceeded our expectations, and all of the staff were friendly and helpful. Julia also worked with us to pivot on the food/drink orders and room set up due to some guests not being able to attend given COVID restrictions. The venue itself was also beautiful and historical. I would highly recommend this venue for both ceremonies and receptions.

My husband and I got married at Summit Overlook Park across the street from our reception at the University Club. The staff at the University Club were extremely accommodating to the wedding parties before the ceremony as well as to our guests during the reception. They even allowed my two pups to come upstairs to say hi to me prior to our photos with them!
This venue was the absolute best we could have hoped for for our small wedding of 70. Most of our guest were from out of town, and had never visited Saint Paul before, so we loved the representation that the Club gave them.
The views are so beautiful, and the coordinator Julia Struve was so responsive and helpful with the planning process. She was happy to answer any and all questions and I swear I never waited more than 30 minutes to hear back from her!
Everything ran smoothly at the reception (at the University Club of Saint Paul) and it will forever hold a special place in my heart, no matter where we live. Thanks Julia and University Club!!

We loved our experience with the University Club. The service was top notch, the venue was perfect for the event we wanted, and we received so many compliments from our guests. Julia was great to work with through the entire process, and eased my nerves during the whole covid postponing situation. The day of staff, Kelli and Evan, took care of everything so seamlessly. I’m so happy we chose them for our wedding venue.

This is more than a wedding company. These are real people who really care. My fiancé and I were to be married at the St Paul Athletic club in November 2020, but with the Covid pandemic that nobody expected, it became impossible to host the wedding. While many other vendors were money-focused and took deposits, etc from us at this challenging time, the St Paul Athletic club treated us like people and met us where we were given the circumstances. They gave us a full refund with no hassle, were gracious, and wonderful to deal with. They actually care about you and not just their money. I would advise working with them. They have my trust and recommendation.

We had our reception at the St. Paul Athletic Club and it was gorgeous! Overall planning was simple and the communication with the catering director was prompt. Some confusion along the way with planning and we were disappointed that we couldn’t taste the other food except entrees at the tasting. Our reception ended up being beautiful and seamless- everything was put out as planned, food was great, dessert/ late night snack were a hit and the whole thing was great. The venue also cleaned up the space for us and has all of our items packed up ready to take home in the morning. The Athletic Club was a gorgeous place to host a big crowd for a winter wedding!!

Excellent staff, beautiful venue in the heart of St. Paul. Really felt the staff wanted to take care of us and do whatever they could to make the day amazing. Plated meal was cooked in house and amazing selection and dishes but slightly expensive - worth it! Julia was super responsive throughout the whole process and really willing to accommodate to us.

1 - the SPAC was a beautiful venue! Our pictures and memories from the night are gorgeous. The molding, the balconies, the beautiful space are a great backdrop for a romantic wedding.
2 - Julia and her entire team are extremely responsive and easy to work with. They obviously have a lot of experience and thought of things for our event we didn't think of like linens, strategic layout of the dinner, and signature cocktails! She also worked with all my vendors directly so it eliminated a lot of tasks for me as the bride.
3 - We didn't walk into our wedding stressed about much, it was smooth and organized. Julia's team was so on top of it! This allowed us to have fun.
4 - The multiple levels were a really cool bonus! We had ceremony in the lobby, cocktails in the second floor bar, dinner in the ballroom on the third floor and we (bride and groom) had our grand entrance on the balcony. Moving the party through a space (but not too far!) changed the scenery without having to go outside.

My husband and I loved having our wedding reception at The University Club. It was a December wedding so the decorations outside, in the lobby, and Summit Room were beautiful. I didn't have to do a thing! The food was the BEST wedding food I have ever had. The generous portions at our tasting meal were exactly how it came out at the reception. The option of valet service was so nice. The drivers were fast and responsible. The staff was helpful and professional. They were always available to answer my questions and concerns and let me tour the space multiple times.
Almost a year later, I still have friends and family tell me it was the most elegant wedding they have ever been to. You should definitely consider this place!

I wish I could give the University Club six stars! From our initial visit to the property in January through the end of my daughter’s wedding reception a few weeeks ago, I could not be more pleased. The flexibility, professionalism, and communication of every staff member there was top notch. We took advantage of the property the entire day of her wedding, using the beautiful rooms for the bridal parties to get ready that morning. The venue was lovely & the food outstanding. Any question we had was answered almost immediately and the manager (Robert) on duty the day of the wedding truly made the day totally stress free!!! Julia coordinated everything with our vendors and the entire reception was flawless!

My husband and I, along with our families, could not have been more pleased with the St. Paul Athletic Club's venue and its services.
Event Space: we found the venue to fit our reception needs very well. The ballroom had details that set it apart from a normal hotel ballroom. The bar room that is adjacent to the ballroom made for a great cocktail hour spot. It also gave people the chance to converse in a quieter setting after dinner. The venue had all of the tables, chairs, linens and place setting items I needed. The staff was very accommodating to a customized setup.
Coordinators: Julia and Samantha were fabulous. From the start of the planning process, I had no worries about items being delivered. They were on top of details and deadlines; they were highly responsive to my questions and comments; they were flexible and accommodating to my requests. On my wedding day, I didn't even think about the coordination of the venue. I knew they would deliver, and they did.
Event Staff: They were timely, professional and friendly. They executed the evening flawlessly.
Cost: The St. Paul Athletic Club was more expensive than other venues we considered. However, it was great working with a crew that know the wedding drill. They are professional and can navigate real-time problem-solving, which gave us peace of mind.
Overall, I highly recommend the St. Paul Athletic Club as a reception venue.
Lastly, if you're looking at this, I assume you are engaged...in which case, congrats and good luck with planning!

I am so incredibly happy that we held our wedding at the University Club. I feel like it is Minneapolis/St. Paul’s best-kept-wedding venue-secret. We held our wedding ceremony and reception at the University Club of St. Paul on September 15, 2018 and LOVED everything about the day! From the very first email to Julia back in January, to writing this review two weeks after our wedding, working with the University Club has been nothing short of amazing.
The location is wonderful. Tucked away along Summit Avenue in the heart Crocus Hill near downtown St. Paul and near the Cathedral, the Club has a timeless charm. The space itself is gorgeous – elegant without being stuffy, with ivy climbing the walls, a beautiful chandelier in the entrance, windows letting light pour in and a cozy fireplace as a focal point. We got married in the Summit Room in front of the fireplace that we decorated with candles and flowers, held our cocktail hour in the adjoining Terrace Room and our dinner and dance back in the Summit Room. The day of service was wonderful and everyone was so kind, attentive and professional. Vendors can arrive at 9am and we left at 11pm so the whole place felt like ours. We were able to get ready and leave all of our personal belongings in one of the large meeting rooms upstairs. Everything was so comfortable and personable that it felt like getting married in someone’s home.
I am convinced there is no one better in the business than Julia Struve. She was very responsive, extremely organized and super personable and funny. I once emailed her with about 10 questions and she answered them all within an hour. When she and my day-of-coordinator met, I just sat there and they figured everything out! She is on top of everything, which you need when planning a wedding.
And the food was AMAZING. I had many guests tell me it was the best wedding food they’ve ever had. Our photographer took all of our pictures there and he said The University Club is his new favorite place with its crazy beautiful venue and dream lighting.
Wonderful location, amazing service, incredible food - I recommend the University Club without reservation and if I could give it 10 stars, I would!

We had our wedding at the University Club on May 25, 2018 and it exceeded our expectations! The rooms there are so beautiful you hardly need any decorations. They photograph really well. The service I received from Julia was impeccable! She was very responsive to every communication and very pleasant to interact with. All of the staff were very helpful, friendly, and accommodating. I had many questions and requests and none of them fell through the cracks. The catering (food) was delicious! Our wedding size was about 65 guests and it was perfect. It's a great venue for a smaller sized wedding. We rented the Summit room for the ceremony and reception and the Terrace room for the cocktail and horsdvs, and had access to both rooms all afternoon/evening. I loved that we could have the space from 9am-11pm. It gave us a lot of time to get ready and prepare. I found it to be a great value (not very expensive) compared to other like venues and even more beautiful. The location is perfect among the beautiful mansions on Summit Avenue. The club is all windows with greenery everywhere. There are also 2 nice parksnearby - great for outdoor photographs. I'm so happy we chose the University Club for our wedding! The only thing that didn't go as planned was the reception music. We opted to stream and play our own music instead of hiring a DJ. The 2 large speakers were connected by a long cord and weren't in the right place (in the dance floor area) and it was unwieldy trying to move them. The sound quality from the speakers was just okay. I wish we would have invested in a DJ. Aside from that, everything was absolutely perfect! Also we used Fleur de Lis as our florist and the flowers were stunningly beautiful! I highly recommend them too.

We ADORED working with the St Paul Athletic Club for our wedding. We worked with Nicole Pappas as our coordinator and she was incredible. We had an initial meeting to estimate costs and general ideas. She was very transparent with costs and gave us plenty of option to fit our budget. Once everything was set up, she checked in occasionally and was always very prompt about answering emails and calls. I never felt like she was out of reach (which is REALLY reassuring during wedding-week!).
The venue itself is stunning. We had our ceremony in the main lobby, then cocktail hour on the second floor in Butlers Bar, then our reception in the 3rd-floor ballroom. Everything was beautiful and even with 250 guests, never felt cramped. We had an NYE wedding and they helped make all our special details for the countdown and toasts easy. The staff working the meal service and bartenders were also fabulous.
If I could do everything over again, I'd still do it at the SPAC! THANK YOU!!!!

We absolutely LOVED having our wedding at the University Club of St Paul. The venue is beautiful on its own. It has so much character, very romantic, eclectic, and intimate. Just what we were looking for! I was in awe all day with how beautiful EVERYTHING was! And the surrounding area is stunning for bridal party pictures! For food, we had the mexican buffet which was SO tasty! And cupcakes from buttercream which were ALSO delicious! Working with Julia made the whole experience SO easy. She was so prompt in responding to questions via email. And all the staff were so great working with our vendors. We were able to drop off centerpieces the night before and pick them up the day after the wedding, which removed pressure from our family and friends to do take down at the end of the night. We wanted to choose a venue where our family wouldn't have to worry about set up/take down. The University Club staff did all of that - which was such a huge help!! It was also LOVELY and so convenient to have a complimentary night in the Hotel 340 in St Paul. We would recommend this location to anyone and everyone looking for a venue!

I have never been one to leave reviews. But simply put this was THE BEST decision my beautiful bride and I made. Simply put Julia is by far and away the number one thing that will help you make your wedding dreams a reality. She was there for us(mostly my bride) every step of the way. Emails answered within the hour, and if not a short few hours later. She met with us countless times at the venue so we could figure out the details and the setup and the vendor collaboration. Simply put Julia is the differentiator here. The place is gorgeous, historic infact. The ballroom large and the original crown molding makes the room pop. The food was amazing, and through a lot of market research, we found it to be extremely budget friendly for this magnitude of a venue. The quality and the quantity were both delicious and plentiful. Our guests have raved about how big and beautiful our venue is, and how delicious the food is. However what Laura and I keep raving about is how amazing Julia is. I know I'm being repitive about how great she was but words can't express how much value you get for your money. The braised short rib is amazing, but honestly the mushroom and cream Ravioli was one of the best dishes I've ever had at a wedding. The other nice thing was that the venue being in downtown St. Paul, we didn't deal with nearly the traffic you would deal with if it was in downtown Minneapolis.

Our wedding reception was held at the University Club of St. Paul. I chose the venue for a few reasons. One being the rooms are very charming and intimate. Also the space is well lit with natural lighting, which many other venues are lacking. We used both rooms the day of the wedding the Terrace room as well as the Summit room, both are lovely with historic details. The food received numerous compliments and rave reviews from all our guests. Day of coordination is a breeze because of Julia their catering director she is amazing and one of the reasons I chose to do business with the club. She is highly detail oriented and responds extremely promptly to all emails. I loved working with her and the club's staff. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone for their wedding reception.

The Saint Paul Athletic Club is so beautiful, it doesn't need much decoration. The staff is friendly and professional. They also have a hotel were my wife and I stayed. The room was big and had many amenities. We were able to leave the decorations/chair covers overnight. Nicole and Julia they really go above and beyond, Thank you for making our wedding day so special.

We had our ceremony, social hour, and reception at The St. Paul Athletic Club and it was fabulous! We had our hearts set on having our ceremony and reception at the same place. SPAC was one of the few venues where we didn't have to compromise the look and ambiance of one space for another. It is a gorgeous, grand, unique venue and we feel lucky that we were able to host our friends and family there for our big day.
Julia was fantastic to work with. She was extremely diligent and always answered my emails in a very timely manner. I had an idea for a special detail I wanted to incorporate into the social hour, and Julia made sure that they could help us make it happen! When we met to go over final details she was knowledgeable, organized, and answered most of my questions before I could even ask them.
Nicole was on-site the day of our wedding. I didn’t interact with her in-person that day, but I was in touch with her via email about a few details I wanted to confirm. She was also very quick to respond and made sure everything was set up just the way we wanted. Her staff was top-notch; well prepared for the event and very professional. The food and beverage service was smooth all evening long.
We chose to bring in our own wine, and Nicole and Julia made sure that the drop off was easy and at a time that worked for our schedule. We loved that we could choose 4 meal choices for our guests. It made it so easy to accommodate everyone’s dietary needs. We had several guests comment that it was “the best wedding food” they had ever had!
Another major plus, is that Hotel 340 is in the same building. The ladies got ready in the Bridal Suite, we used the Oak Room as “home base” for the entire wedding party, and a lot of guests spent the night. It was very convenient for all of us!
If I were to do it all over again, I wouldn’t change a thing about hosting our wedding at SPAC. Nicole and Julia made the planning process easy, and it was truly an amazing day.

Everyone (Julia, Dave, and Nicole) were all great to work with. They all went out of their way to make things happen. Julia was very responsive with any question that we had during the planning process. Dave was helpful with the tasting and tours. Nicole executed everything without a hitch the day of. Our guests raved about the food and service was outstanding. The beauty of the venue speaks for itself but the staff makes this place 5 stars.

We toured many options in the St. Paul area and was quick to decide on SPAC, main reasons to us in the beginning were the convenience with the hotel attached and others close by..... the size: for a wedding right around 200, too many venues had that as the max and SPAC was PERFECT for this amount, there were no worries about RSVPs since the space could hold even more if needed.... the food: the reviews were so great about the food and everybody was right, it was amazing and so easy to plan since it's all through the SPAC... and the Space, it's BEAUTIFUL....Once the decision was made it was onto planning which Julia made so easy! She was quick to answer any little question as silly as it seemed, she always had great answers and recommendations! And having questions last about a year and a half, I was so impressed that at our final meeting she had every little thing I had talked to her about noted and ready to go. We didn't have a wedding planner and coordinated majority of the vendors ourselves and we were a little nervous going into the day and having everything flow and to have help when needed, but the day of coordinator (Nicole was ours) seemed to get everything done and it looked amazing!!! I could go on but just know if you end up choosing the SPAC for your wedding, you're in good hands!

We looked at both the University Club and Hotel 340 for our wedding reception venue, and thought both were amazing. We went with Hotel 340 as our guest list was just barely over the space capacity limit for UC. Hotel 340 was a great choice! We liked it because it was everything we needed in one place. We had a lot of family coming in from out of town, so it was really convenient to have the hotel just a few floors above the reception space. The ballroom is beautiful, aside from table decor we didn't hire any extra decor vendors because the space doesn't need it. The food was incredible, and they are very flexible with food options! We were able to customize our menu which is unheard of. Julia and her team were AMAZING! So easy going, willing to help us out where they could, and very quick and responsive to e-mails and requests. They really go the extra mile to make sure your wedding day is everything you imagined it to be. I highly recommend this venue, our family and friends have been raving about it long after the wedding as well!

Robbie and I are so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Julia, Dave, and the entire staff at St. Paul Athletic Club, University Club, and Hotel 340 for our wedding. From the moment my mom, Robbie, and I met with Dave for our tour at SPAC, we knew it was the venue we wanted to host the celebration our marriage at! Julia took over the coordination and communication from our decision to commit to the venue up to the day of our event, and boy were we in capable and amazing hands! Julia is extremely professional, diligent, and provided above and beyond, quality customer service. She was always quick to respond to my constant emails, and very thorough with all the necessary details for the day of plans. The spaces at SPAC are elegant and beautiful, and the staff will work with you to make the reception is personalized. We are SO thankful to all of the work that was put into our wedding day and are so appreciative of the perfect celebration that we we able to have! On top of that, we had a free bridal suite the night of our with Hotel 340 which is connected to SPAC- our family and friends loved that they were able to walk upstairs when the event came to an end at 1am! Thank you, thank you, thank you! The care, effort, and thought put into our day was above and beyond, and we highly recommend this venue for anyone’s event needs!

The Athletic Club is an absolutely stunning venue! Julia Struve was fantastic to work with and was polite and responsive with every question and change we had. I do, however, have a few critiques. The day of wedding coordinator we had was really disappointing. The dinner serve was a complete disaster. Some of our guests never received the wine and champagne pour- which was a really important aspect of our dinner to both mine and my husband's family. Plates weren't cleared and waters weren't filled. With only 199 guests, we were unsure what caused such a disjointed dinner serve.
The club also promised to make sure our decor was set up prior to the reception. Upon arrival to the reception, we saw that framed signs and menus we had created were not placed, the head table place cards were not on the table and the head table decor wasn't correct. This was a small, but devastating error to me after spending nearly 2 years planning every aspect of our day.
If you choose to have your wedding here, I would recommend hiring a wedding planner to help you coordinate with the club and make sure the day runs smoothly!

The Saint Paul Athletic Club and Hotel 340 is the perfect wedding venue. Not only is it a beautiful, historical facility, the owners and staff are exceptional. We booked the venue over a year in advance, and Julia was always available to answer questions, making sure the day went as planned . David made food and drink tasting a celebration, and as we read in other reviews, the food was outstanding. The day of the event, Nicole was available to answer questions, but did not bother us during preparations or during the reception. If we needed her, she was there. She made sure the tables were decorated as planned, and the whole evening went without a hitch. Also, the acoustics in the room were phenomenal. We've been to many wedding celebrations where speeches were lost, and the band/music made it impossible to have a conversation. This room and sound system was the best we've experienced. The band sounded wonderful (Blue Water Kings) and we still were able to visit in the room. Also, having the Hotel 340 right there made it so easy for friends and family, especially grandparents who were steps from the elevator and their room. The hotel staff was very accommodating, and the hotel rooms were spacious and felt like being in an apartment. Again, we couldn't have been happier with our daughter and son in law's wedding day, it was PERFECT!!

Incredible! Best wedding & reception venue ever! The venue was absolutely gorgeous, the food was wonderful, and the dance floor and bar spaces were perfect for a crowd that likes to dance and drink, but perhaps most importantly, the SPAC team was unbelievable. I actually cannot say enough wonderful things about David, Julia, Nicole, and the rest of their staff. Throughout the entire process – from our first tour of the venue to paying the final bill, they were incredibly responsive, accommodating, genuinely caring, and just outstanding overall. I never waited more than 12 hours for a response to any question, they were super helpful with ideas and tips and always made sure we weren’t forgetting anything (I had no idea what I was doing), and they always went out of their way to make sure their answer was “yes” to anything we asked for. The day of, everything was seamless, and they did cute little things to make the day even more perfect and special for my husband and I. The day was more perfect than I could ever have imagined, and I could not have been happier with our experience with SPAC. If you don’t believe me, reach out to David or Julia – I guarantee within a few minutes of talking to them you’ll see why I loved working with them!

“My husband and I, as well as our families could not have picked a better venue to host our wedding weekend. As it approaches its 100 years of existence, the Saint Paul Athletic Club provided a classic, elegant, and historic vibe, which was everything our families wanted and dreamed of in a wedding venue. Every space was perfect for our event – the Butler’s Bar hosted after dinner cocktails and a welcome evening on Friday evening, the women’s locker room was the perfect set up for hair and makeup for the bridesmaids and the William Morris and Oak rooms was the perfect set up for the groomsmen. The lobby is stunning and, along with the gorgeous second floor mezzanine, hosted a beautiful cocktail hour space for our guests. The ballroom, stunning as it is, turned out more beautiful than I could have ever imagined with all the elements of our décor and floral added to it.
On top of venue, the staff was second to none. For almost an entire year, my husband and I and our parents had the pleasure of planning this event with Julia Struve. Julia was there for us every step of the way, providing guidance and offering suggestions to point us in the right direction. Julia was with us every step and never missed a beat through the constant changes and updates we made along the way. Dave Collins was with us leading up to the wedding and throughout our entire wedding weekend. Dave kept it lighthearted and kept us laughing the whole weekend long and provided exceptional service to us and our guests. The whole staff at the Saint Paul Athletic Club, but especially Dave, went above and beyond for us and we can’t thank him enough. In addition, the wait staff was phenomenal. Serving 285 people is no small feat, but the food was unbelievable and was served quickly and efficiently. This is a true testament to Dave and Julia and their oversight of their staff.
The Saint Paul Athletic Club provided every space we needed throughout the wedding weekend and made it so convenient for us and our guests by being a full service wedding venue. We could not have picked a more perfect venue for our weekend!” –Ross & Karen McHugh // 8/13/16 // Saint Paul, Minnesota

Amazing venue, we could not have been happier with how our wedding here turned out. The venue is beautiful with incredible views of the Mississippi River valley. The food was great, the bartender was fun, and the dance floor has ample space. We hardly had an decorations because they would have only taken away from the venue itself. Great rooms for getting ready and a park across the street for outside wedding photo ops. The building is beautiful and was in full vine bloom for our July wedding which allowed for great photos.

My now husband and I fell in love with the vintage charm of the ballroom at the St. Paul Athletic Club. We loved that the space was so beautiful it wouldn't need very much décor to transform it into our dream wedding. Working with Julia was a dream! I didn't have to worry about a thing. We heard many compliments throughout the night on how beautiful the space was, and how good the food was! We also loved that Hotel 340 was just up the elevator a couple floors. It was super convenient for all our out of town guests! We fell in love with the University Club of St. Paul the moment we saw it! The venue is breathtakingly beautiful and was the perfect place for our vision of a classy, elegant, intimate wedding.
Beyond the beauty of the building, the staff is the most incredible group of people to work with. Julia, the catering director, made my job as a bride easy. She is so organized and extremely responsive, answering my multiple e-mails within minutes! She, along with Dave (the on-site manager the day of our wedding) worked flawlessly with all of our vendors to make our vision a reality. I cried when I saw the ceremony and reception set-up for the first time because everything was better than I ever dreamed! The service was impeccable - The staff went above and beyond to treat our guests like royalty, even providing special vegetables (that weren't ordered before the event) for our guests' children.
Our guests continue to rave about our wedding. The food, the drinks, the service and the elegant atmosphere left a lasting impression in our friends and family's minds. I cannot say enough about The University Club of St. Paul!! Everything - the venue, the food and especially the staff - is just perfect!!!

I cannot say enough good things about the University Club as a wedding venue. We were married in the downtown St. Paul clubhouse (St. Paul Athletic Club) on January 30th, and the event was just flawless. Every employee, from the catering manager to the banquet manager to the server and bartenders, was accommodating and professional--and the food and drinks were FANTASTIC. The history and character of the building is a perfect backdrop for photography, and it was so convenient to stay in Hotel 340 (located on the upper floors of the building). Many guests raved after the event that it was the best wedding they'd been to. I wish we could relive it!
Thank you to the University Club staff for their role in an absolutely incredible day!

The University Club was the backdrop for what turned out to be our better-than-a-fairy tale wedding on Saturday, November 14, 2015. The Club was the perfect venue for our vision of a simple but elegant, intimate wedding and reception. The staff was superb; we were treated like royalty from the first contact I had with Julia all the way through to the congratulatory note we got from her a few days after our wedding. We could not be happier with the experience; the entire staff went out of their way to make sure we had everything we wanted or needed.
The Club itself is elegant and intimate. Our guests repeatedly praised the location, the ambiance, and of course the food. We've already talked about having our 25th wedding anniversary at the Club, so I suspect this will not prove to be the last time we host an event at the University Club! We will want to visit again to recall all of the great memories we made on our wedding day. Thank you to the entire staff for helping make this day a dream come true!

My now husband and I just had a brunch wedding at the University Club of St. Paul on Summit Avenue on Halloween morning (10/31/15). When we initially stepped foot in the venue about a year ago, we instantly fell in love! We knew we didn’t have to have many decorations for the wedding, because the place was already so beautiful.
The months leading up to the wedding were stressful when it came to everything but the venue. The Catering Director, Julia Struve, answered every single question I had. Never once did she make me feel like I was a nuisance, and she was very prompt in every response. She made everything so easy, and even brought up ideas that I had never thought of for the big day. She went above and beyond, and I can’t say enough about her. She is fantastic!
The day of the wedding was just as impressive. After the ceremony, the manager, Dave, introduced himself and let us know that he was there to help with anything we needed. He made suggestions that were extremely helpful, and he actually cared about how our day went. He was amazing, and it felt like we had known him forever.
The servers were incredible. They were all incredibly friendly and didn’t need any direction, not that I assumed they would, but they made themselves almost invisible. They served everyone quickly, and we were all so impressed.
We had a great time chatting with the bartender as well. At the end of the day, he congratulated us and said that he had so much fun seeing everyone in costume, and watching how excited the kids were with all of the cool decorations and candy we had given them. He was so friendly, and the drinks he made were perfect!
We chose a brunch wedding for a couple of reasons. We wanted everyone to still be able to go trick or treating in the evening with their families, and having a daytime wedding was more affordable. We had a smaller wedding, 50 people including us and the vendors, and it amounted to far less than we expected for such an amazing venue. I consider myself frugal and have a hard time justifying spending money on a lot of things, but I without a doubt think that every cent we spent on our wedding was well worth it.
To be honest, I was so worried that something would go wrong on the day of, or that people wouldn’t have fun (that’s probably a common concern), but I can’t believe how incredible and smooth the entire event went! I couldn’t have imagined a better day, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the staff at the University Club.

My husband and I had our wedding ceremony and reception at the St. Paul Athletic Club on May 16, 2015.
From the moment I started looking for a venue and sent the club the initial inquiry, I received absolutely wonderful service. Julia Struve is a terrific coordinator...so knowledgeable and always very quick to respond. She really made every part of the process very clear and easy...which is invaluable to a couple juggling tons of details in the planning for that day. Julia was a pleasure to work with!
The venue itself is beautiful and every part of the day was exactly what we had envisioned. Our guests raved about it!
I cannot say enough about the staff's professionalism and excellent customer service we received. I would highly recommend the St. Paul Athletic Club as a venue to anyone planning their wedding!

If only we could have had more hours in the weekend. What a beautiful, unforgettable event for us. The Saint Paul Athletic Club over exceeded all expectations. We had the grooms dinner in the Butler's Parlor, Friday night, which was catered by University Club. The only way to go. Delicious and convenient for the guests staying at the hotel. Saturday we took advantage of the beauty of the lobby for our ceremony, social hour in the Butler's Parlor, and then the Grand Ballroom for the dinner and dance. We have received so many compliments on how beautiful the venue was and the ease of moving between hotel(s) to the grooms dinner, ceremony, social hour, then reception. The event planning with catering coordinator, Julie Struve was easier than I could have expected, as well. Always very prompt and thoughtful answering any question a bride could have, and there are many. :) She is very knowledgeable on any and every question or concern you may have. It was on of the easier things to worry about with such an event of a wedding. The dinner tasting was delicious, all the meetings for the space(s) were easy and convenient, and the day of coordination of everything was seamless. I give great appreciation to all the event and support staff for the service of meals, set up of spaces, hotel accommodations, and so many others. Absolutely worth every penny. The old character of the spaces made an elegant, beautiful, memorable day for the two of us and all involved. Much appreciation to all involved.

We can't say enough about the St. Paul Athletic Club and its staff, who all helped make our daughter's wedding and reception last weekend a beautiful and memorable occasion. We continue to receive compliments and remarks about how awesome it was!
Venue is beautiful, the staff attentive and the food delicious.
Julia was wonderful to work with. She knows her stuff, and never seemed put out when we emailed her numerous times with questions, especially as the special day got closer. She was detailed oriented and allayed any fears we might have prior to the wedding day. She worked with our other vendors (florist, band, etc) seamlessly, making it hassle-free for us.
David Collins, the food and beverage manager, as well as his staff, did an awesome job taking care of our needs and those of our guests. He was super attentive, checking in with us throughout the night to make sure we were happy with everything. When he left, he introduced us to another gentleman (sorry, I forgot his name), who also was just as attentive.
Our hats off to the chef! We are foodies, so the meal was very important to us. We opted for stations offering a multitude of options, and everything was delicious.
We held the ceremony in the grand ballroom. While we had cocktail hour in the lobby downstairs (an impressive room) the ballroom was "flipped" for the reception. The staff followed our instructions for setting up the room perfectly, and it was just as beautiful as we had hoped.
The old building is beautiful and oozes with character, making it a perfect and romantic venue. Having Hotel 340 in the same building was convenient for the many guests (including ourselves) who stayed over night.
We highly recommend the St. Paul Athletic Club! Thanks for helping make this such an incredible night!

I was lucky enough to have had my wedding at the St. Paul Athletic Club in September and it was perfect! The venue is amazing needing very little decor because the venue is so beautiful. Julia is great to work with she is very helpful and responds to emails very very quickly. The food is great we had multiple guests say they loved the food and there was so much they didn't leave hungry (so don't be scared away by not being able to bring in a different caterer). I would recommend anyone to have their wedding there it is a beautiful venue, great group of people to work with and fabulous place to start your wonderful life together with you new husband/wife.
