Knowing I wanted a downtown rehearsal dinner location and having eaten at Rue de Jean many times, we booked Upstairs 11 months before our wedding. After several deposits, floor pl...ans, and menu plans, we were contacted by the restaurant TWO MONTHS before our wedding and told that sorry, we double booked but you are more than welcome to use the HUGE Embassy Suites ballroom (that fits over 200 people) for your intimate rehearsal dinner of 40. Needless to say, we were furious and terrified that in this busy wedding city, we were going to be left with a huge ballroom for our dinner. What they left out of our conversation was the fact that they own SEVERAL other small restaurants downtown that could accommodate our party and fit our wants and needs. Had it not been for our wedding planner giving us a list of the locations they owned, we would never have known. We brought this list to them and, after MUCH convincing, they relented and agreed to let us use one of their other locations. They also gave us a discount which was great and our new location, Virginia's on King, actually ended up being quite lovely. The food was also great and the servers and chefs at the rehearsal dinner were very sweet and accommodating. However, I was extremely disappointed with the customer service at Rue de Jean and the lack of care they took in ensuring that we were taken care of and given what we wanted after their mistake. I was also shocked and skeptical that it took them NINE MONTHS to figure out that the room had been double-booked. We have eaten at Rue de Jean and their counterparts many times over the years but I do not see us returning there for special events or meals any time in the near future.
