The Vinton War Memorial is a great venue. Has a historic building structure and modern touches. It has a great style to the building and modern amenities. Amanda and her team there were amazing and worked with my vendors and scheduling for my wedding. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a great venue and held our wedding of 130 attendees perfectly.
My husband and I had been to several venues to find a place that we both liked. When we walked into the War Memorial we were blown away by the gorgeous floors. The ballroom was elegant and the candlelit fireplace was the perfect touch. They had a package where we could get married inside and have a cocktail type reception with heavy appetizers. The package also included a night at the Cambria Suites, which was lovely! It worked out perfectly for us. We had 80 guests and it flowed very well. The staff was great to work with, whatever we asked for they provided or would assist in any way possible. I highly recommend this venue to couples.
You have options to rent one ballroom or both (which is the whole floor) and an additional small room as needed. We did the all the rooms and the rental is for 12 hours which makes it more cost efficient when compared to 4 or 5 hour rentals.
Our wedding guest list was about 180 all said and done; we were prepared for 200. We used the small room for the buffet and used every inch in the ballrooms for tables, dancing and a DJ. The weather held out and we had one bar outside and one in the foyer. I wouldn't have many more guests in there unless you don't want dancing area.
The staff I worked with from the beginning up to a month before were absolutely wonderful. However, we did not have the greatest service from their new event staff member to the point that it upset my family and caused more unnecessary stress on a already stressful day.
I would say that was the only set back.
The floors were recently refinished and were very shiny and the overall decor is very pleasing. The views of the valley and mountains are hard to beat.
I would recommend Vinton War Memorial
I was looking for a place that was "in between" Martinsville, VA (my hometown) and Lynchburg, VA (where my fiance, his family, and I currently live.) There appeared to be nothing in the open/mansion/ballroom style I was looking for that would contain our guestlist. Finding the Vinton War Memorial was wonderful. The open space was beautiful for our Christmas Wonderland themed wedding. The space is gorgeous for pictures, and the wheelchair accodmodations were very important to me as I have a disabled grandmother. The management changed during our contracted period, which caused some initial confusion. Overall, however, the staff was very friendly and helpful. During our rehearsal, Wally (The Event Manager) was so helpful and encouraging. He was there early the day of the wedding, making things ready, providing us with a wonderful fruit tray and breakfast cakes in the beautiful bridal suite, and working with my wedding coordinator to make sure everything was running smoothly. The South Ballroom was perfect for my smaller than I originally thought guestlist, and opening the room up for the reception was perfect. My favorite feature, besides just the beauty of the whole building, was having our ceremony in front of the gorgeous fireplace. My mom was able to decorate the mantle gorgeously. I truly felt like a princess in a fairytale that day!
Vinton war memorial is an excellent venue. Great people to work with, very helpful, courteous, and friendly. They helped make our event wonderful!
We LOVE the Vinton War Memorial. I work with the Town of Vinton often for work and they never disappoint. The Vinton War Memorial is absolutely gorgeous with it's high ceilings, large windows, beautiful light fixtures, and stunning hardwood floors. The day of my wedding was one of the hottest so far this year and the day after a nasty storm blew out most of the power in town. Not only did the Vinton War Memorial have power, but they made sure all of our guests were comfortable all night. We were allowed to decorate just about however we wanted, bringing in our own chair covers and storing them a few days early. The staff let me visit any time I wanted to and I had complete control over the room set-up. My dad needed to change clothes before the reception and they let him store his suit there all day and gave him access to a private room upstairs to change. I never felt rushed to have to clean up or that I we didn't have enough time to set-up.
If you are getting married in the Roanoke area I HIGHLY recommend looking into holding your reception at the Vinton War Memorial. The inside and outside are beautiful, and I really can't imagine having held the wedding reception anywhere else!
After I toured the Vinton War Memorial I knew I was going to have my wedding there. It is beautiful and the staff was amazing to work with. I loved all the room included also.
I had my wedding at Vinton War Memorial 3-27-10 and I couldn't have asked for better service. What wonderful, hard working people. My guests couldn't stop talking about how gorgeous the venue was and how great the staff were. Thanks for such a great experience. ♥
Just perfect!!
Unfortunately the air conditioning went haywire the night of our rehearsal dinner. My husband's parents were from out of town, but my mom-in-law said that the staff was so easy to work with and very gracious about the a/c situation. One of the staff people present in the building at the time of our event personally spoke with her at the event and apologized profusely and tried to remedy the situation. She ended up compensating my mom-in-law for the problem, which was very generous and kind of her. The staff at the Vinton War Memorial really are in the business of making a pleasant and honest experience.
The venue itself is absolutely gorgeous and we actually considered this for our wedding reception venue. I would highly recommend this to anyone searching for a beautiful southern wedding event! (Great for photos too!!)
Loved the Vinton War Memorial - classic ballrooms, shiny wood floors, amazing venue for our reception. I live out of town and was scheduled to meet with the events coordinator to set up our reception for a saturday - we showed up and it wasn't even on her schedule - thankfully she was there to meet with another couple! Not necessarily her fault, her assistant supposedly scheduled it, but if another couple wasn't already coming in, no one would have been there at all.
We were allowed to bring our linens, drinks, alcohol, etc the day before the wedding but you can only have the actual venue for 12 hours or you have to pay extra. So they were kind enough to iron our linens for us and said it would be done by the time we got there Saturday at 12 pm to set up the centerpieces, etc for the reception that night. My MIL and family got there at 12, linens were still being ironed. Not a huge deal but slowed down progress a little, not to mention the family still had to be dressed at at the ceremony by 5.
Also, I had a memorial candle set up for my grandmother and it was placed on the mantle, with two pillar candles. The War Memorial was also trying to "sell" the room when we were setting up for our reception so there were people in there moving all of the stuff we'd just finished - making extra work for us. Didn't appreciate that. When they only give you 12 hours to have the site, and that includes set up, reception and clean up, those 12 hours should be yours. No one else should be in there selling the room to other potential customers and moving all of your stuff around.
Otherwise, the venue was amazing. It really is a very pretty site and the staff are very nice.
We had the whole reception venue to ourselves.;You probably want to stay under 150 guests.
