Warehouse XI provides a great blank slate for couples who want a lot of freedom in decorating their venue. We really wanted to DIY a lot of our wedding, so this was a great choice for us - one of the rare spaces in the area that gives couples this much freedom. With this freedom of course comes a lot of work on the couple’s part. All that is provided is the space, so you will need to provide chair/table/linen rentals, decorations, etc., and will need to find a solution to the lack of a kitchen (which we resolved by working with a food truck for catering and precooling beverages at home the day before. While a traditional caterer can bring in kitchen equipment, there isn’t much space in the venue unless you want to rent out a side room for an additional charge or sacrifice the back of the main space).
One of the challenges we encountered while planning our wedding was how difficult it was to communicate with WXI. Getting a response to an email with simple logistical or venue questions was often difficult. This was especially a problem during the week before the wedding when we asked how to enter the venue and other questions about logistics, and didn’t receive a response. After we decided to communicate directly with the owner, Peggy, via cell phone, though, we had much more success - she was very helpful in the days leading up to our wedding.
During the wedding weekend, Peggy was ridiculously helpful and did way more than she had to, for setup, cleanup, making sure things ran smoothly. When you book the place, she tells you she's usually there to help but can't make guarantees, so we really didn't know what to expect. Because there wasn’t another event the day before our wedding, we were able to start setting up early (which was tremendously helpful!). We also didn’t need to clean up until their next event (which was very nice considering the day after our event was Labor Day and the rentals company would charge $250 extra for pickup that day!). Peggy’s brother even showed up and helped us rehang our string lights in a better way. Peggy was there from the morning when we were setting up until after we left around midnight; working almost the entire time.
The price and location are also very appealing (although we would recommend booking an extra day, at reduced cost, for setup; we thought it wasn't critical but I think we're pretty lucky no one booked the day before so we were able to get in early), and I'm not sure if there is another space like it nearby to pick from if that's what someone is looking for. It’s perfect for a smaller wedding (although they can fit more than a hundred people if needed, we found the space to be perfect for our 65-person wedding, with round tables and plenty of space for the buffet, bar, DJ, and a dance floor). It’s also only a 5-minute walk to Prospect Hill Park, where we had our ceremony. Despite a few communication problems earlier on, we were able to have a wonderful wedding there, thanks to how versatile the space is, and more importantly, how tremendously helpful Peggy was the day-of. Would definitely recommend!
