Weddings by Design

My experience at Weddings by Design is one that every girl dreams of. Riley was absolutely AMAZING! She was extremely helpful with me trying different styles and listening to feedback in what I liked and didn’t like about a dress and then she quickly went and pulled another dress based on what I said. She made me feel comfortable, listened to, and confident in the dress I ended up choosing. She was knowledgeable about the dresses, options, and next steps. She even assisted in helping me stay close to my budget. No other bridal salon provided an experience even close to what I had at Weddings By Design. They were also size inclusive which made this process extremely stress free. If I could give them more than 5 stars I would!

I just got my wedding dress from Weddings by Design, and the whole experience was great! My consultant was Karissa, and I would highly recommend her. It felt like she truly wanted me to find the right dress, and she was helpful when it came to comparing the dresses I liked and with determining what aspects of a dress I liked. I got to go through all the dresses and pick ones out I wanted to try on, and Karissa helped by finding dresses with specific elements I wanted. She also helped me keep my budget in mind and would note to me if a dress was out of my budget before I tried it on. She wasn't pushy at all but was very supportive along the way. As for the shop as a whole, they have separate try on areas for each person, and the experience does feel very personalized. All the staff I interacted with were so sweet; it felt like they really wanted it to be a special experience for each person.

I highly recommend Weddings by Design. We had a wonderful experience. Jan was very helpful and knowledgeable about each of the dresses my daughter tried on. She helped my daughter find her perfect dress!

I went into the appointment by telling them the style of wedding I was going to have and the rest was magic. Every girl in there was so helpful! I had no idea what I really wanted and decided to just have fun trying on every type of dress that caught my eye (within reason) and had such a blast! Ashley was so fun and made my family feel so included. Between her and the rest of the gals in the store they brought out one great dress after another and I walked away with the most breathtaking wedding dress and wedding look! Cannot say enough about how perfect it all was.

They were amazing and answered all my questions that I had! Their shop is so cute and had so many dresses and made me feel like a princess and comfortable when trying on dresses! I couldn’t have asked for a better place to go and then an added bonus that they offer full service of having the dress stay at the store and then to steam it the week of!

Weddings by Design was excellent as I searched for my wedding gown. The staff was friendly and helpful as I narrowed down which gowns were the one for me! They celebrated with me when I said "yes"!

Kelsey was phenomenal with me. This was the 6th salon I visited. She was super down to earth and literally made me feel amazing. Definitely the best experience! She was able to whip a lot of dresses on me and then she found my dream and dress and clipped it so well! I definitely saved the best for last! Thank you so much for giving me my "yes" moment!

Weddings by Design was a dream come true to work with! I came in last minute and ended up finding my dream dress. Lauren was WONDERFUL to work with and I never felt pressured to buy anything which was a nice feeling. HIGHLY recommend!!

I went to this shop twice. The second time I needed a dress in a rush (my mom told me in error that my dress didn't fit) and they were able to deliver a dress in the 3 month window I had and it came about a month early. Both consultants I worked with were great. They have a variety of options in a variety of sizes which is nice as a plus-size bride there were a few stores where I felt like I only had 2 or 3 options or all the options were slightly different dresses with corsets.

POST WEDDING REVIEW: Editing my review because my alterations appointments were not the best. Multiple reschedules and I got my dress the Thursday before my wedding with incomplete alterations. Spent $1100 on alterations so I was not expecting for Jude to have my dress for 5 months and still not have it done two days before my wedding. When she showed me the dress, it had two metal loops VISIBLE. She had to sew two coverings on it right on the spot and had me sit there after the store was closed. My appointment at Weddings at Design was my first bridal appointment. Jan did an amazing job. She was so patient and kind and knew exactly what I was looking for after only a couple dresses.

Weddings by Design was the first shop I went to and I think my dress was close to the end I tried on. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Jude is great for alterations. Our ring bearer’s looked so handsome in their suit pants, ties and suspenders we rented as well! Thank you for being a huge part of our big day!

Weddings by Design has such a beautiful array of wedding dresses to choose from. When I started the search for my gown, I wasn't entirely sure what I wanted. This was the second store I went to and was blown away by the customer service and selection. All of the staff are so sweet and willing to answer any questions I had and offer suggestions. Despite all my indecisiveness, they helped me find the wedding dress of my dreams! I was also able to find my veil there and they were able to order a new one for me with no issues! It was so nice that I was able to store my dress and veil there until the day before the wedding, as well as have it professionally steamed. I cannot recommend Weddings by Design enough!!

We also got our bridesmaid dresses, plus the groom and groomsmen tuxes from here. It was an easy process to pick everything out and they communicated well. Highly recommend this salon to everyone. In advance of my appointment, they took my pinterest board and pre-pulled dresses that matched my inspirations. Then they had me walk the store for others. Clean and updated the salon helped me find my perfect "yes" dress!

They made me feel so comfortable as soon as I walked in the door! They were the first shop I had gone into and nothing else after could top that! I had 3 shops scheduled that day because my mom and sister were in town. I loved how they had plenty of space in there rooms and they put you in the dress themselves instead of you trying to put a dress in this tiny room, then the attendant clipping you in like what I experienced at the 2nd bridal store I went to. Kelsey was wonderful she seemed to go above and beyond with answering every question my mom and I had. I didn't make it to the 3rd bridal shop I had schedule that day, I was able to call her after -a very different experience after the 2nd shop, Kelsey had my favorite dress pulled from the first time round when I got there, which was the one!!! The whole experience was happy and effortless, never felt like I was prom dress shopping like the other salon. Thanks so much! Unforgettable experience!! So appreciative ❤

During my initial trip for wedding dress shopping I was hesitant. I had an idea in mind what I thought I wanted. The girls in shop were so nice and let me try on several dresses to find the right one for me. When I finally found the one (which was nothing like I had thought I wanted) the ordering process was easy! It came in a little earlier than expected. When the big day came I had them store and steam my dress. They made sure to call me ahead of time to confirm when I would be there and were so nice. Their kindness is something I truly loved about my experience with them! And I still can’t get over how beautiful my dress is!

For a bridal dress, 5 stars! Absolutely amazing! The girls were great and made me feel confident and totally secure in each dress they showed! However, DO NOT go through them for the tuxes! We had issue after issue with them and when my 2 y/o son went in to try it on and he was overwhelmed and crying (as toddlers are) the lady helping us was less than ideal. She was very clearly annoyed with him and having to take his measurement.

This was my second bridal appointment and I am so glad I went here. Ashley was my consultant and my mom and I adored her. She was so sweet and patient with me and understood my style right off the bat. She never made me feel pressured and was so genuine - all of the dresses were absolutely beautiful, and I am so in love with the dress we chose! Highly recommend Ashley!

I found my dream dress here IN MY BUDGET. Everyone who was there was kind, professional and extremely helpful. It was my first experience at a bridal salon trying on dresses and they definitely made it very enjoyable. I would recommend anyone looking for anything bridal to shop at Weddings by Designs! The salon owner Melissa is the absolute best to work with! I got my wedding dress and the bridesmaids dresses here! I regretted the dress I originally said yes too and called her a day later to let her know and she let me pick a different one! Thankfully they hadn’t ordered it yet! I would definitely ask for a quote from the lady they do there alterations through. I did end up going somewhere else for that just because they were more than what I could afford. If I ever had to buy another wedding dress I would definitely go back to Weddings by Design!

All the ladies here are wonderful. They definitely had my best interests in mind and I never felt pressured to buy until I found “the one”. I was nervous going in, but felt calm after the first dress or two. I went during a trunk show weekend and highly recommend doing that if your timeline allows. There will be dresses that haven’t yet made it to market and if you buy a trunk show dress, there is a discount! Also, go for the $75 storage, steaming deal that they have to keep your dress safe until wedding day.

This is a wonderful salon with gorgeous dress options! The staff is very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Their seamstress is amazing and dedicated to making you feel your best on your big day! I highly recommend.

I can't say enough good things about this shop! I was not looking forward to wedding dress shopping but they made it FUN! They were patient with me and my indecisiveness, they were always quick to respond and working with everybody there was an absolute breeze. My husband also got his tux and his groom's suits there and they looked AMAZING! It seriously doesn't get better than Weddings By Design! We're so thankful!

Found my dream dress here after trying on dozens of dresses at multiple shops. Maddie was my consultant and she was wonderful. Their seamstress Jude was also so sweet and did a great job on my multitude of alterations.

Great selection and excellent customer service. Has knowledgeable staff to help find a dress that suits body shape, size and style. Very convenient for storing the dress until the day. The dress was steamed and ready to go when I picked it up. Anytime I needed to access the dress for try-on or alterations, the staff were so helpful and accommodating. Highly recommend.

I highly recommend this shop! They were so kind, helpful & patient as I tried to find my wedding dress. Once I bought the dress, they were even more helpful with connecting me with Jude Dickenson, their amazing alterations lady. I was disappointed in my experience. I booked an appointment and received little to no help. I was left standing in multiple dresses with no consultant around to help me change. While dressing my consultant talked about her divorce and how marriage wasn’t for her. She also argued with me when I told her I didn’t want a strapless dress. It was an uncomfortable experience.

Amazing staff and a really great selection of dresses! They also have a really great selection of tuxes, and renting the tuxes from the same place I purchased my dress was very convenient.

I had a wonderful experience at Weddings by Design! The staff there is friendly and very knowledgeable about the gowns and the designers. The whole process was stress free which is what I was hoping for. I purchased my gown, my girl's bridesmaids dresses and even rented tuxes right there at The Tux Shop! It made me feel good to see other brides there smiling and having great experiences each time I went in. I recommend this store to ALL brides!!

I found my dress my first day shopping at Weddings by Design. I had awesome help from all the gals there but I specifically worked with christy and she was a blast! She made me so good in every dress and helped me speak my mind when I had a few opinions! After finding my gorgeous dress she helped 4/6 bridesmaids find their gowns as well. (Good deal if you get your dress and bridesmaids there too! FYI) There was never any pressure to buy, you can tell they all truly care about making sure you are happy and feel good through this whole experience. AMAZING! I had an appointment this weekend and today I am going to buy my dress there. The staff was friendly, accommodating and I felt totally at ease trying on dresses. They stayed under my budget and didn't pressure me to buy that day. The store was clean and comfortably cool since trying on dresses gets SUPER warm fast. I would highly recommend this shop!

I had a very pleasant experience shopping at Weddings by Design. I was the first appointment of the day on a Saturday. The shop was almost completely empty so my entourage and I were allowed to look through the dresses on our own. I loved that we got to do so at our own pace and the consultant was around but allowed us to pick the first ones just on our own. My consultant, Christie, was fantastic. She really took the time to make me feel special and talked to me and my party as if we were family. When I found a dress that I really liked but did not love, there was not the pressure to immediately buy as there was in other stores. She was so nice about us taking photos and giving me time to just look at myself in the gowns. I loved that she insisted we take a group photo at the end. She was so helpful with the belts and when I was not finding one that I really liked, measured the width so that if I chose my favorite dress, I could easily find the correct sized belt anywhere. It was an overall great experience.

While I only went to two bridal salons before purchasing my dress from Weddings by Design, I loved their service and they made trying on dresses easy. I didn't feel rushed and they were realistic about size ordering and offered good advice. They also knew when my mom and I needed a moment and allowed us that space. Additionally, they worked with me to make a belt I REALLY wanted affordable for me.

This was the first dress place I went to and my experience was terrible. I worked with Christie (I believe that was her name) and she was belittling during the entire appointment. She told me no question was a dumb one but then proceeded to treat me like an idiot. She was rude to my mother, rude to me and overall unpleasant to work with. I was so disappointed in my experience. I know other ladies who work here are nice but Christie needed a reality check. She bragged about how she had been doing this for 8 years. Personally, I don't know how she makes a sale with this kind of attitude. I was in the changing room with her on the verge of tears because of how she was treating me. I found a dress I loved here and for less expensive than the second store I visited but I didn't return here because I didn't want to give them my business. I think this location has great dresses to offer, but that one staff member ruined the dress experience for me. If you decide to go here, I suggest you request anyone but her.

Going to Weddings by Design was the best decision I could have made! They were very accommodating taking me on even though I made the appointment that day. Once I got their, I feel in love with the environment! They allowed me to check out all the dresses while I waited for an opening. Then when it was my turn I was super nervous with this being my first time trying on a dress, but my associate made me feel relaxed and beautiful! She helped to me to figure out what exactly I would look best in the fit my body. She stayed with me for two hours ( which was 30 minutes after they were suppose to close) helping find the a dress I have not been able to stop thinking about! I would definitely recommend Weddings by Design for any Bride!!

I absolutely loved the wedding dress shopping experience, ordering my dress here was easy and I was welcomed in to try it on any time. My one and only complaint is the bag that they gave me my dress in. It was the type of bag I would expect to be given in a department store, a big plastic bag that ripped during transport (allowing rain on my dress the day before the wedding). Fix the bag and everything would be 5 stars!

From the second I stepped into this store the service was phenomenal. The dresses were all high quality. I was even able to order my dress in a shorter length so I did not need alterations. The only changes I needed was the bustle and their seamstress did an amazing job. I planned my wedding from out of town and the shop was great with working with me for my fittings when I was in town. I would definitely recommend!

Last weekend I bought my dress at Weddings by Design. My consultant Natalie was so nice and had a great sense of humor! I felt comfortable telling her what I liked and disliked about certain dresses. The store also had many many dresses within my price range which made me happy! I was originally planning on spending $1200-1500, and found many dresses under my original budget! I ended up spending less then planned and found a beautiful dress! I called the following day bc I wanted to try it on again and they had no problems fitting me in w/o and apt! Love this place!

I visited three vendors before going to Weddings by Design, and I'm so glad I went here! When I visited, they asked what I was looking for, and my price range, and allowed me to look around. They told me where to look and where not to look (on dresses I couldn't afford). When I saw "my dress", it was missing the price tag, but I tried it on anyway. We were terrified it was going to be above our price range, but it was right in budget, and it was stunning! They were so helpful, friendly, and willing to assist with whatever I needed!

This place is so professional and they really seem to care about their clients. They always greeted me by my first name every time I came in for anything! Beautiful dresses and EXCELLENT sales! Would highly recommend!

I had a great experience at weddings by design. The staff helping me were honest and approachable. They let me try on 15 dresses in an hour session, much more than any other store I visited. Very happy! One important thing to remember: alterations are not included and get very pricey; the staff will recommend you find someone else to do them.

These girls are FANTASTIC. They put you in charge of everything. It was nice to know that no changes could be made without my approval. They were so attentive and took so much care of my dress. I liked the "layaway" option. I got a special discount for buying my dress the first time I was there which was nice and I bought an AMAZING Essence of Australia dress off the rack with an added discount!

I received a discount because I bought my dress there. It was easy to drop my dress off - no making an appt. It takes about 2 months to get it back - glad i did this!

Thanks to Melissa and her team at Weddings by Design, I was able to find my dream Essence of Australia dress. Melissa's team was amazing. They were very patient and understanding of what I liked and didn't like and ultimately helped me find a gorgeous dress that everyone oo'ed and ahh'ed over. I would definitely recommend all Iowa brides to get their gown from the best bridal shop in town, Weddings by Design!

I loved my dress shopping experience here. Monica was super helpful and fun and made me feel relaxed and important. Unfortunately the woman measuring me did a HORRIBLE job and though I had not changed size my dress was not only too tight but also too short. I guarantee I did not grow taller! Not just a bit too short either. Like hey-look-at-my-ankles too short. The seamstress was able to fix everything in the end but it was a very stressful experience that left me in tears many times.

This was the first place I went to try on dresses, per a friend's recommendation. I never found a better dress and came back to buy. The women were all so helpful. Dresses are definitely not cheap at this shop but all are so beautiful.

They nickel and dime you here. Their service is also terrible. Once you get your dress, you are just another bride to deal with. Their seamstress will charge you an arm and a leg. Find someone who does alterations on the side. I did this and it was a difference of $250. They really know how to take advantage of you. I loved my dress, but you could find a beautiful dress anywhere. I went to another place for my bridesmaid dresses and I loved them - Bridal Boutique in the East Village.

The ladies at Weddings by Design are the best. They are friendly and welcoming. They know their product and are great to work with.

When shopping and purchasing my wedding dress, Weddings By Design was absolutely wonderful. They were very attentive, nice, and had great service. Once my wedding dress was purchased and I was shopping for bridesmaid dresses the service that I once had was gone. I was put in the back of the store to browse the dresses by myself. The associate was supposed to bring me color swatches and after 30 minutes came back to check on me with no swatches. Needless to say I was ready to leave. They do have a discount on the bridesmaid dresses if you purchased your wedding gown there, which is nice. I also didn't have good luck with their seamstress - she was always running a half an hour late and rushed through my appointment, not paying full attention to me. I had to point out that I was falling out of the top of my dress for her to fix it, otherwise she would have just left it! I was very frustrated.

We got our bridesmaids dresses, tuxes, and my wedding dress from them- everything went well, as it should, and the little issues with tuxes were all immediately resolved. Very satisfied!

Loved working with Weddings by Design - we actually used them for my wedding dress, the bridesmaids dresses, AND the tuxes! I loved their selection, and they were very patient with me... even after I came back like a 1/2 dozen times to keep making sure I was confident in my dress.

I go to pick up my dress, veil and crown 2 days before my wedding and they seemed to have misplaced everything. Uh what. I had called them on Monday and told them I would be there Thursday to pick everything up and they told me it would be all steamed and ready to go. Nothing was steamed or ready to go. Once they finally found the dress, the buttons on it that they broke, were not fixed as previously promised, 3 pearls on my crown were missing, and my veil was missing. Couldnt find it anywhere. They came out with another veil and said I could just use that one. I started to cry. They ended up fixing the crown and putting it in a box instead of wrapped it in a plastic bag like they originally did. They ordered a new veil to match the original one I wanted and they fixed the buttons on the dress. I can to then come back the day before my wedding and deal with this AGAIN. Thankfully it was all fixed, but what a fiasco. Then they expected me to pay for the shipping of the new veil! yeah that didnt happen. Bridezilla came out!

I bought my wedding dress and my bridesmaids dresses here. The dresses were beautiful and exactly what I wanted. I was really happy with all the service except for the seamstress. It cost me 400 to hem my wedding dress 2 inches dress and put in a bustle. Which was extremely high in price but I paid it. The bustle lasted 15minutes before it was ripped out.

All the employees were helpful and honest. The designer of my dress happened to be in the shop the day I was trying on and explained how perfect the dress was for my body. I felt great in my dress and I am so happy I took the risk.

I worked with Melissa ( the owner) and she was really awesome. She find exactly what I wanted even though I had no idea.

These ladies were amazing! My whole experience from searching for a dress to the final pick up day was great. They went out of there way for anything I needed. I even ordered the tuxes through them. I had a lot of out of town wedding party members and they were great at working with them too. I would recommend this place to anyone!

Excellent Customer Service. They went above and beyond to make sure I was always informed on where my dress was at the manufacturer's and in shipping. The designer of my dress happened to be at the store for a trunk show so I experienced a first-hand feel on what it felt like to be a celebrity!! I received many compliments throughout the night on the unique color (pewter) of my dress.

I LOVED Weddings by Design! I went to a few other places and this was by far the best all throughout the process. The employees were always so nice and knew you by name. They will do whatever it takes to make you happy! Best place in Des Moines!

We went to Weddings by Design on a Saturday and had an appointment at 2. After sitting there until 2:30 without a room, my girls and I just started looking at dresses! The woman helping me was helping other brides as well, so we didn't get that "one-on-one" attention at all. We ended up going back on Sunday to re-try one of my top dresses on. Turns out there were TONS we didn't see because they were so busy and other girls had them in their rooms. We got excellent service on Sunday, the ladies were great! My dress came in way too big, which I thought would happen when they told me what size I "should" order. So we had to pay to alter it. I probably would have had to take it in anyway though, so not a huge deal.

Weddigns By Design has a great selection of dresses. It is a smaller shop, but I find that to be better than large shops- they are very personable and helpful in getting you through all the steps until your big day!!

They were prompt and helpful. I found my dress and they allowed me to have the 10% discount for buying it the first time in the store even though I didn't purchase it until a few days later. The bridesmaids dresses were in early and we received a discount on those too.

These people are great! I love this shop!

Service was by far the best around! Very helpful and you really get a good feel for how the dress will look on your special day. Also, best selection around and VERY reasonable prices.

I had a great experience picking out my wedding dress at Weddings By Design. Our helper was as nice as could be. It was great that they offer 10% off bridal party dresses if you purchase your wedding dress there, so that is what we did! I was a little disappointed though when I went with my girls to get their dresses... The staff wasn’t as nice or attentive when dealing with bridesmaids dresses. It was difficult to find help once they dropped us off at the try on rooms. We spent a lot of money here and it was a disappointing to struggle to get help!

I went to Weddings by Design first, but eventually I found dresses at other locations that I liked. However, I found the service and quality of help and items was better at Weddings By Design than anywhere else. I returned to the location to find they had the dresses I liked at other locations as well. Everything was there. I also wouldnt have tried on the dress that I bought if it werent for Melissa, the owner. I was able to get appointments fairly easy (apt. only location) and I ALWAYS had one-on-one attention without waiting for someone. The only downfall is that alterations at this location (as I am sure is true for others) are expensive and offered at limited times.

I really loved working with Weddings by Design for my wedding dress and bridesmaids. In my opinion, they carry some of the best designers at affordable prices and they were very professional and helpful! Melissa, the owner, really wants to find the perfect dress for ever bride. My only problem was on the tux side of things. When my groom went in to make decisions on tuxes, they didn't have a sample of the material he was looking at. They said they'd see if they could get it and they'd call us. Unfortunately, that side of the business seems to be very bad at follow-up because we had to call them on multiple occasions to find out what was going on and I even went into the store a few times to ask and was told that the lady in charge of the tuxes would "get back to me" the next day, but she never did. That being said, once we got everything ordered, they were very helpful about making sure everything fit the guys correctly and even exchanging one of the guys' jackets that ended up being too small.

The ladies at Weddings by Design found me my dream dress and I couldn't have been happier with the dress. The quality of their product was amazing! I used the alterations lady that they suggested, but that was a mistake. She WAAAY over charged and all the bussels in my dress broke within an hour. I ended up carrying my dress all night. The dress shop itself tho, was very good.

The staff here was incredibly disinterested in our process. When we rented our tuxes the owner was very rude. When we finally got the tuxes, we received several different styles and none of the styles we ordered.

This is where I got my wedding dress. Great experience. Staff very friendly. Wish I would have gotten my bridesmaid dresses here!! what a lesson.

Weddings by Design is a very cute shop. Lots of dresses and unique styles. Definitely worth a look!

The staff at WBD are very friendly and helpful, without being pushy or overbearing. I ran over on my appointment by a little, and they didn't get upset at all. Whenever I needed to come in to try on the dress, they were more than happy to accommodate my schedule. Their selection is unbelievable - they have modestly priced dresses as well as more expensive, higher end. But no matter the price tag, each dress looks like it's the highest quality. Couldn't have been happier with my experience here!

I tried on dresses at several places in Des Moines and I loved the ladies at Weddings By Design. They were so helpful and easy to work with. They have a great selection and a beautiful new space that makes it so relaxing for both the bride and her friends and family. I would highly recommend this place!

I thought I would visit several places and try on tons of dresses before finding "the one." Weddings by Design was the first place I tried because it was nearby and they were having a Thanksgiving inventory clear out sale. I chose probably 10 dresses to try and kept going back to the first one - a silver Maggie Sottero unlike anything I pictured myself getting. The associate helping me was very patient and made me look my best in each dress. She didn't make me feel uncomfortable being practically naked with her, which I had been nervous about. She wasn't pushy, and only offered her opinion or advice when we asked for it. They also connected me to a great tailor and helped me find the perfect shoes and dye them the right shade of silver to match. They seemed as excited as I was throughout the process and made me feel even more excited as I left town with the dress before the wedding - "Send us photos!" "You're going to be beautiful!" "We can't wait to hear about it!" They stored it for me so my man wouldn't catch any glimpses, and steamed it before I came to pick it up. The tailoring cost more than I expected, but I got such an AMAZING deal on the dress itself that it worked out fine. We tried on bridesmaid dresses there as well, but ended up ordering online because it was cheaper. They had a nice selection of bridal, bridesmaid and mothers' dresses. I had been drooling over Maggie Sottero dresses online for weeks, assuming I'd never be able to afford them, and at Weddings by Design my dream came true! I wanted something unique, and I got it - how often do you see a silver wedding gown? I wish I could get married again so I could wear more of their dresses and work with their associates again, but I definitely married a keeper so I guess I'll just have to find an occasion to wear the dress again!
