EDIT: I can no longer recommend White Dress OTR and caution any who buy a sample dress in general, especially if it is damaged in any way. Despite the great experience I had in store (see original review below), it has been a nightmare getting the dress cleaned, fixed and altered, and I feel misled by OTR staff.
As you could expect with any sample dress, there were a few imperfections with my dress (dirty, missing a few beads, missing buttons, etc.) that the staff assured me would be absolutely no issue. They said whoever I go to for alterations should have replacement beads and buttons, and if they don't, then I can just give them a call and they'd order them from the manufacturer. So I buy the dress and take it to the tailor they recommend, and of course she doesn't have the exact beads and buttons I need. I call OTR back, and they tell me they can't do anything because the dress is discontinued (which was the case when I bought it!!) and suggest I just buy all new buttons for the entire dress, which has 200+ buttons going down the back. The buttons are not traditional buttons; they are crystal beaded buttons and were one of the big selling points of the dress. Changing the buttons means changing the entire look, not to mention new buttons are EXPENSIVE. All OTR could do was give me a web address to a button store they found online.
Aside from the buttons, OTR also made it seem like my dress would not need a lot of alterations. They said, "it fits you so perfectly! you should just need it taken in a bit at the waist and hemming, which you'd need to do with any dress," yet the tailor has now had to reconstruct the entire bodice.
Luckily our tailor is magic, and she found a solution for the buttons and made it fit like a glove (although I'll admit it still doesn't look quite as nice as it did straight from the manufacturer). However, it has obviously come at a cost. I've now spent more on alterations than I spent on the dress (+$1200), plus +250 just to have it cleaned because it was a sample (not even including steaming and pressing before the wedding). It has also brought tons of unnecessary frustration and stress.
I say all this as a word of warning to any brides who may think buying from OTR means saving money on a gown. It is very likely you could end up spending more than if you just bought your dream dress brand new, and don't let the staff make you believe otherwise. I recommend having a tailor look at something before buying if you truly think you found "the one."
Original review: White Dress OTR was exactly the experience I didn't know I needed when finding my dress! It was the third and final bridal salon we visited over a weekend, and while it was fun to be in the hustle and bustle of the first two shops, it just felt like too much too fast for me to make a decision. We visited White Dress OTR on Sunday morning and had the shop to ourselves. [Staff} was SO helpful, understanding and patient as I tried on many different styles and some dresses multiple times until I finally decided on the one! The dress ended up being nothing like I thought I wanted, but they had a huge variety, and easily pivoted to nail down the right look. I never felt rushed or pressured, and the great price was an added bonus! Even though I didn't end up choosing any of them, I also really appreciated the fact that I could see photos of their dresses in advance and pick out my favorites. Would highly recommend the experience to any bride-to-be!
