Having our wedding at Woldumar was SO, SO special!!!
We took the risk of having an August 10 wedding in their barn with no A/C...and we were rewarded with beautiful 70 degree weather. One of their exhaust fans was broken, but they purchased window fans and an industrial fan to keep the air moving. Definitely not an issue for us given our incredible weather, but I was a little nervous in the lead-up.
Victoria was SO EASY to work with, I cannot sing her praises enough. From booking until wedding day, she was right there with us. She had fantastic advice on vendors and ceremony details that made things go so smoothly (walking across the bridge was the best idea EVER). The golf cart photo tour was AWESOME, too! My husband and I are very outdoorsy, so it was fun to spend so much time outside on our big day. You can tell the Woldumar staff put a lot of love into their grounds. We got so many compliments on how beautiful everything was! It was truly the perfect venue for us. We didn't even need much decor because the barn and ceremony space are so beautiful on their own.
We didn't purchase day-before or day-after barn access which made things a little chaotic. I recommend getting the day-after cleaning, as we were in a mad rush to get things cleaned before midnight on wedding day. The security guard was also very rude during clean up. I'd pay extra to not have to deal with him again...
All in all, great venue for the outdoorsy couple! We loved being able to choose all of our own vendors, too. We felt like we had so much creative control, which we wouldn't have gotten at a full-service venue. It's also so comforting to know our money went to a nature center. Much better than a golf course, at least in my opinion!
Woldumar Nature Center & Victoria specifically were a pleasure to work with. They provided us everything we needed and more, and were flexible when we needed to add more set up / tear down time the next day. Victoria was always available for questions when we needed her and was there the day before / day of for any help we needed. Victoria is extremely personable; she was such an asset to have for our big day at Woldumar! Would highly recommend Woldumar Nature Center for your big day!
Woldumar is a gorgeous, affordable venue perfect for a DIY couple. You do need to bring in all of your own vendors, which for me was perfect because we were able to truly make our wedding unique and all our own. They have three beautiful ceremony sites to choose from and a beautiful rustic barn on the property for your reception. Due to staffing changes we had some small issues with inconsistent communication, but overall our experience and wedding day were fantastic!
The venue is beautiful, and Victoria was super helpful. She always responded whenever I e-mailed her a random question. It's clear she has a lot of experience coordinating weddings here -- she was able to recommend vendors based on working with them in the past, and she knew the best ways to set up the reception (such as where a dessert table should go). She also clearly knows the grounds of the nature center well, as she was able to recommend a photo spot that would go with our color theme. So not only was this a beautiful spot for our wedding, but planning it here was a great experience!
We were looking for a low key but pretty venue, and this was exactly it. The barn is a beautiful backdrop, and a blank canvas to decorate just how you want it. We had to move our ceremony inside and it worked great even with that.
We got lots of compliments from the guests on the space and how well it held our crowd of about 120. There was plenty of room for a band, we just moved a few tables to expand the dance floor later.
Victoria was fantastic to work with-- super flexible and made sure everything was how we wanted it on the day. She's also doing a great job making little updates to the barn, the bridal room in particular is so cute and has plenty of room to get ready. The updates are really bringing out the potential so this spot is only getting better with time. They're open to pretty much any caterer/bartender, which helped a lot with budget and let us have exactly what we wanted for dinner. Overall, a great choice!
We loved our venue, it was absolutely beautiful! There was a miscommunication about our cleanup day, but Victoria was so kind and handled everything. Make sure you go over your contract and ask questions about events the day before and after your event!
We had to postpone, and then cancel, our 2020 wedding at Woldumar, and we couldn't be happier with the service we received at every step of the process.
Victoria helped us make a plan for a beautiful "micro-wedding" with our families in our original ceremony space (the Walnut Glen area). She was so sweet and helpful on the day, and went out of her way to cart us and our families to and from the ceremony space in the woods.
She was also nothing short of amazing throughout the planning process, and we are so thankful for the flexibility that Woldumar offered with our (very tough) decisions to postpone and ultimately cancel.
We will be recommending Woldumar to everyone we know who wants to get married in the Lansing area from here on out!
As a bride who went through the Covid pandemic, we were forced to find a new venue that included an outdoor space. Although Woldumar was not our first selection, I wish we would have picked it from the beginning! Victoria was wonderful to work with. They were up front with safety precautions and we worked together to ensure our guests were safe while still having our wedding look exactly how we wanted as much as possible. Highly highly recommend!
Woldumar was such a great choice! We had a small wedding (50 people), so we did both the ceremony and the reception on the upper level of the barn (it was winter). Everything turned out beautiful, and it all went smoothly.
Victoria was very responsive and super easy to work with. Her whole team was helpful and kind, and contributed to our wedding day being awesome. We would book Woldumar again!
I can’t recommend this place enough! My wedding was a dream come true. The barn is perfect for a fall wedding! Victoria was a huge help. She recommended John Reynolds catering {wood fire pizza buffet)and I have serval guest tell me “I’ve had the best wedding food they’ve ever had”. We had our wedding and reception there. It’s Very easy to get to and convenient . I can’t recommend this place enough!
Woldumar was just beautiful. We had our ceremony and reception here. I'm so glad we did. It was amazing. The barn is gorgeous with white lights everywhere - we saved a ton on decorations as not much extra is needed. Victoria was great to work with and helped us out from start to finish. Bonus - tables and chairs were included and set up by Victoria ahead of time. They have recommended vendors, but you are free to choose whoever you like.
Woldumar is the ideal venue for budget-conscious nature lovers. We loved that they use weddings to help fund environmental interpretive and education programs! Our ceremony in the Walnut Glen was everything we wanted and more, and the reception area in the barn barely requires additional decor as it is already beautiful! All of our guests complimented us on the beauty of the location, both indoors and out. We loved the flexibility of being able to find our own vendors. I had some TIPS-certified friends bartend, made our own reception and dance playlists and hooked my phone into the speakers, and was able to find an allergy-friendly catering company to accommodate our guests dietary needs. I highly recommend doing the photo golf cart tour and the on-site rehearsal dinner - the dinner was low-key, and the photos from around the property are breathtaking. Victoria is also great to work with, incredibly responsive and so professional.
Just had my wedding here and it was definitely the right choice. Really affordable compared to other places we looked, and it gave the vibe we wanted--casual, nature-y, and fun. Victoria was very helpful throughout the planning process and responds quickly to emails. We especially appreciated that they hang any extra stuff you want for you (we had more string lights and paper lanterns), allow a bonfire which our guests loved, and have a golf cart to transport elderly and disabled guests to the ceremony site that we had picked (there are 3, and we picked Walnut Glen, which is down in the woods a short ways). I highly, highly recommend Woldumar if you're looking for a rustic and nature-y wedding!
Simply Amazing!
This venue is absolutely perfect. Victoria is such a blessing to work with, and is always available for contact whenever you need her. They had the majority of the decorations completed the night before on our rehearsal dinner, so I was able to decide if I loved the look before it was actually go time! The best thing about this venue is that the ceremony and reception are all in the same space! It was such an easy transition for our guests, and they didn't have to worry about finding the next location. The barn itself is picture perfect, like something out of a magazine. They allow you to add decorations to the ceiling (such as flowers, more lights, etc). Everything we needed was available to us, and we couldn't have asked for a better venue to have our wedding at. You will NOT be disappointed by having your wedding at Woldumar!! :)
We had our reception at Woldumar over Memorial Day weekend. Although they had multiple weddings there throughout the weekend, we never felt as though we were any less important than the other ceremony that would be going on after ours. Victoria was amazing! She was so helpful in helping us decide on all the small details that we needed to consider. She was constantly going above and beyond helping us get everything together and assembled and beautiful in time. The barn was so beautifully decorated with the twinkle lights, that we didn't really need any other decorations inside the upper level.
We appreciated every employee's dedication to helping make our special day amazing. The beauty of the nature around the whole park.
We would definitely recommend Woldumar to any of our friends and/or family that would consider using Woldumar for a wedding, or any type of special event. We were extremely satisfied with our entire experience.
We had our wedding at Woldumar last weekend and loved it. We had so many compliments from our guests- that the location, ceremony, and atmosphere were beautiful and unique. The ceremony was at Walnut Glen Amphitheater. My dress had a train and I didn't want wood chips stuck in it, so we put an aisle runner down the trail to the wooden platform and it worked out well- we were able to leave the aisle runner there the whole day until the ceremony in the early evening. We also had some older folks and were able to bring a couple chairs down to the site so they didn't have to sit on the benches. Victoria, the wedding coordinator, also used golf carts to take the elderly folks down to the ceremony site since they had difficulty walking. She also drove them back up to the barn. We had the reception in RE Olds Barn. It came with twinkle lights and paper lanterns so we didn't have to worry about a lot of other decorations. We had family and friends come to help us decorate the morning of and it only took about an hour and a half. Since the site is so beautiful, there isn't really a need for much decorations. I had forgotten to add in an extra table on our seating chart and Victoria got it set up right away. We had a photo golf cart tour of the property (lasting about an hour) and it was the best part of the day. Victoria knew all of the beautiful spots for pictures and made the experience relaxing and easy going. Victoria was very personable and friendly. Our bridal party enjoyed working with her. I would highly recommend this venue to someone looking for a simple, outdoorsy wedding.
My husband and I chose Woldumar because our money would go to support the nature that surrounds the barn. The barn was cute and we were very excited that we would be holding our wedding here. In the 2 weeks before my wedding, the venue provided us with a new contract enforcing new rules (one we didn't sign, but they still requested we follow). There were several amenities we were told of (golf cart photo tour for photos in the woods, wooden bar included, and a stage at the front of the room). The golf cart was broken and couldn't be used, the bar broke and they said it wouldn't be fixed in time for the wedding(they did end up fixing this after I asked they attend to it sooner vs later), and they took the stage down just before our wedding). We were also told we could hang things from the ceiling. I hand made decorations to hang from the ceiling and the week before my wedding the director called me and told me that they could not hang these because they MIGHT pose a risk to the guests, she had never seen these - I was scheduled to drop them off the following day. The things that I had to hang were fake flowers on hollow dollar store hula hoops - at most 3-5 pounds each and would not have fallen down. I was very disappointed. The staff was friendly and cooperative for the 10 months prior to my wedding and things changed in the 2 weeks just before the wedding. Woldumar also promised to reimburse me for the money I spent on the decorations that I made to hang that they wouldn't allow me to use, they never did. When I made my contracts with my rental companies they told me that they knew other people who had decorated the night before weddings, as when they deliver the rental items they deliver them on Friday night. I asked Woldumar 2 weeks before my wedding if they had anything going on the night before my wedding, they did not. I asked if I could at least drop my decorations off since there were a lot of rental items and I did not want the people decorating Woldumar for me the morning of the wedding to have to carry so much inside, they informed me that this would not be allowed. I offered to pay extra money to be allowed to come in on Friday night (since they did not have anything else going on) and was told no again (which shocked me since they are a non-profit organization!) The morning of my wedding, those decorating were dropping things off at the door and temporarily had cars parked near the entrance (which we were told was allowed) and they were repeatedly harassed to move their cars. The staff was rude to my wedding party the day of the wedding, yelling at them for storing things in the wrong locations and not providing alternatives. The staff informed me that they would be there the night of the reception - both the wedding coordinator and the director. I was informed by my family that "they went home, said their shift 'ends at 5'". Overall I was extremely dissatisfied with Woldumar. I would never choose them as a location for a wedding reception or anything else. The service is terrible, they are unreliable, and they do not follow through with anything.
My husband and I just got married at Woldumar last week and it was AMAZING! Everything looked so beautiful. We live in Los Angeles and Kevin and Lauren made planning the wedding so much easier. They were quick to respond to any questions I had and when we were in town were accommodating any time we wanted to come look at the site again. Their crew set everything up exactly how we wanted and even the night security was great! It rained on my wedding and we couldn't use the Walnut Glen location like we had wanted but the barn was amazing for both the wedding and reception. And after the ceremony, when the rain cleared, Kevin took my husband and I and our photographer around to some gorgeous sites for photos. It's an amazing property and I would not only come back just to hike or enjoy the site I would recommend it to any future bride looking for an awesome location!
Woldumar Nature Center is a beautiful location for a wedding. We had our reception in the barn but had our ceremony elsewhere. They are a nature center primarily, and so you shouldn't expect to get emails and phone calls back immediately. Weddings aren't their main business, although I know they are hiring some additional staff to help out in this area.
My husband and I loved having our wedding there. It was a beautiful, natural setting. The staff set up and break down the tables. They hung lights for us that were just beautiful. There is a lovely deck off the top floor which provided a nice place to enjoy some fresh air and take a break from dancing. We had about 80 guests and we felt the space was so perfect and not crowded. We thought we might have as many as 120, and it probably can fit that many, although it will be tight then. We had lots of room for all night dancing.
They have very reasonable rates and you can bring in your own caterer and bar service. We loved that flexibility because it helped us save more money. We also wanted very specific alcohol so this gave us the chance to get exactly what we wanted. I noticed from another review that their prices have gone up - they have done many renovations and we had alcohol at our event so we paid around $1400. This was totally well worth it. I highly recommend Woldumar - we also really lucked out weather-wise, so perhaps I'm biased.
Wolduamr was a perfect place for our wedding, the staff was very helpful, prices were reasonable and we had our ceremony and reception there. The barn is a perfect place for a rustic wedding!
I found Woldumar Nature Center after scouring the whole state of Michigan for a venue that provided versatility and had the look I wanted. Woldumar was the place! With a rennovated barn to use as a reception hall (and ceremony site if desired), this was just the right mix of rustic without so many bugs as a total outdoor wedding. Woldumar has several places for ceremony sites, we chose the sunrise pavilion for ours. They even provided the speaker system and had an optional outdoor sound system as well. They have a little kitchen to store catering supplies, and a perfect spot for a bartender to have access to everything needed to serve drinks! They have lots of refrigerators as well, which I used to store the cupcakes before we set them out. The tables and chairs were provided to us (and were quite comfortable). My only complaint is that we did not have access to the motorized cart to move the chairs back into the building after the ceremony, so my small wedding party had to make a lot of trips back and forth for cleanup. Despite this little mishap, everything else was wonderful. We were even provided security at the door, since the nature center is open to the public but obviously closed for private events. This also gave us peace of mind that people would not be taking their drinks outside. Woldumar is also a non-smoking venue, which we loved. Guests were free to smoke in the parking lot, which is far enough away that we never smelled any smoke at all. Did I mention the price? I paid less than 800 dollars for this gem of a place! Woldumar looks like venues one would pay twice as much for, so it is perfect for brides on a budget. Highly recommended.
We had a wonderful day! The wedding was held at the Herb Garden site. The staff was awesome! They provided chairs, and helped to bring them out and put them back. The grounds were beautiful. Our ceremony was held under some low hanging trees. Pictures turned out amazing!
