The Woodlawn & Pope-Leighey House historic property offers clients a variety of outdoor locations surrounding an 1805 Federal-Georgian mansion built by William Thornton, first architect of the U.S. Capitol. The house was given to Nelly Parke Custis by her step-grandfather, George Washington as his wedding gift, but is also the site of a radical and positive transition from plantation seat to the home of Quakers working together alongside formerly enslaved people, all before the Civil War. Transformation and change is our historical and current footprint, and we look forward to you making your own imprint here! The mansion house is linked through the fountain garden used for cocktails, to a brick & oyster shell- lined fully-outfitted luxury event tent area (with permanent flooring and extra features), and an expansive historic landscape. We have a variety of ceremony locations on our property and know that you will find that one you love. We are a unique place of rich history just 45 minutes from D.C., where everyone is welcome to gather for your special day. Woodlawn has partnered with two extraordinary caterers who produce all the catered events on our property. Please reach out to us and we will connect you with the appropriate staff at both Design Cuisine and Main Event Caterers so that they can propose the perfect options for your celebration. We look forward to welcoming you to Woodlawn!
