The hotel was very clean and very civil war thematic. From the paintings of Abraham Lincoln and various confederate and union paintings, to the cannon prominently displayed in the lobby, this is the place to stay if you're into looking for a more historical experience. The bed we had was little on the firmer side, which may be preferable to some, but the shower in our suite was one I'd love to have in my own home with it's water nozzles hitting you from the front and both left and right sides. We had an issue with our block booking, where we would often receive a call from a wedding guests that they were told there were no rooms left to book for our block when there in fact were many rooms available. Every time we called our hotel coordinator, we were assured the issue would be resolved, yet we had to deal with this issue multiple times over the span of months before it was finally fixed. After the booking issue was resolved, everything else went smoothly and our guests all said they had a great time. Also, the bartenders near the lobby were all fantastic.
Getting married ?? DO NOT BOOK here for a wedding! I was a bridesmaid and our bride and groom found out TWO WEEKS before their wedding date that a car show was booked on the SAME day of their wedding! They were looking forward to getting married in a specific spot outside of the Wyndham and they could not have that spot anymore because of the car show. It was an absolute disgrace !
****Thankfully my friend was able to find a new venue that was right near by called the Inn at Herr Ridge! It was BEAUTIFUL! I would NOT recommend the Wyndham here in Gettysburg for a wedding. Save yourself the stress!
DO NOT HAVE YOUR WEDDING HERE!! SO DISAPPOINTED!! We had our wedding scheduled and everything planned with the Wyndham for over a year to get married outside in their grass area in August 2020 and reception inside. 2 WEEKS BEFORE our wedding they decided to schedule a huge car show on the same day of our wedding and waited until the last second to tell us. When we addressed them asking questions about the car show they had no answers for us. They did not care about our feelings at all or the fact that there were going to be thousands of cars and people all over the property that day. THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT YOUR MONEY!! Which is loud and clear due to the fact that our wedding got pushed to the side for the extreme amount of money they made off of the car show. Our wedding instantly came second. They also told us to move our ceremony inside. We never wanted an inside ceremony/they acted like it was no big deal for us to rearrange our entire wedding plans to accommodate this car show. Not only did we have to worry about planning around COVID but we also had to worry about a car show covering the entire property with cars, trailers, porta potties, food trucks!? That is not something we should be worrying about on our wedding day. Also, anytime any of our guests called the front desk to ask about their rooms they were extremely rude and did not answer any questions. We ultimately had to move our entire venue 2 weeks prior to our wedding because they did not do ANYTHING to help make my day perfect, instead they were just making it worse which is not what your wedding venue should be doing. The Wyndham ultimately would have ruined our day that was supposed to be so special. There was not one ounce of the property not covered. We recommend never staying at this hotel or having any type of event here at all. They do not care about you at all, they only care about getting your money!!
I do not recommend this venue for a wedding.
Unfortunately, I was a bridesmaid in a wedding for a bride and groom that had a terrible experience here. They had this venue booked for at least a year and it was planned to be an outdoor ceremony. Two weeks prior to their wedding date, they received a phone call that the hotel had booked a huge car show for the day of their wedding and an outdoor ceremony was not recommended due to the car show traffic. The property was filled with cars, porta potties, people, and food trucks. It would not have been a good first impression for wedding guests and certainly would not create good photos.
Luckily, the bride and groom were able to reschedule at an entirely different venue nearby just TWO WEEKS prior to their wedding day.
Who is to say something similar would not happen to you and your wedding day? Even if it isn't a car show, who is to say this venue won't decide your event is not a priority and something else is bigger and will bring in more money? Or won't change your available options last minute to better accommodate what they want?
Keep searching for your perfect wedding venue. This place isn't it.
We had the perfect wedding day here. Wanda is great to work with & met all my requests and expectations. It was so nice having them take care of everything & being able to just relax the morning of our wedding. I felt at ease with my wedding being in Wanda’s hands. She was just very personable & great to work with. Highly recommend if you’re looking to get married here. We actually had both our ceremony & reception here.
We looked for a site convenient to our wedding venue and large enough to accommodate our very large reception. When we booked the Wyndham, we also found out it was Reenactment weekend for battle of Gettysburg. That just added to our experience as our out of town guests had things to do on the days around the wedding.
As for the hotel , ballroom/reception, food and beverage...all top notch. Wanda (sales/coordinator) was with us every step of the way, from contract negotiation, food tasting to actually wheeling a table full of our stuff into our room after the wedding. Can't speak highly enough about her. Sarah, the head server at the reception was also top notch. She made sure my bride and I were taken care of through out the night, from our private wedding party cocktail room to helping us to our room.
The only downside was the 2 night minimum for our guests at the hotel, however much of that blame is on us for choosing reenactment weekend. Granted the comped 2 nights in the Bridal Suite was a nice gesture for us.
I previously wrote a review on this lovely historic hotel before our wedding day. Wanda and the entire staff were just so amazing and helpful that I felt I needed to write a "before" review also. But now, 3 months later, I feel I need to write how perfect our wedding day was. For starters, everything went incredibly smoothly and was absolutely professional. Wanda and everyone there was just incredibly organized, detailed oriented, accommodating, supportive and unbelievably professional. They worked so hard to make our day incredibly special and more amazing than we ever thought it could be. The place was decorated impeccably, the service was top notch, and the food was the most delicious buffet that we've had at any wedding we've ever been to. As the bride and groom, thy organized our cake cutting and our time for a meal to be such a smooth transition. We were brought first to the buffet, they held our plates for us so we don't get dirty, and we actually had time to sit and enjoy our food and drinks! It was just such an incredible, unforgettable, magical experience and I can honestly say, from the bottom of my heart, if it wasn't for the two best wedding planners in the world, my mother and Wanda, I know my wedding wouldn't have been as perfect as they made it. My husband and I are so incredibly thankful and full of gratitude for The Wyndham in Gettysburg and hope you choose this place for your reception. If you want the best, in every aspect of your wedding, choose this beautiful hotel. Plus, it's in such a great location! Thanks again, Wanda and the Wyndham staff!!!!
7/25/2015 Long/Weigle Wedding ~ The preparation and reception at the Wyndham was flawless. Wanda Gemmell and her staff created a beautiful and comfortable environment for everyone that attended. Her dedication to making it exactly what we wanted from start to finish was exceptional. She gave you a peace of mind with the planning that was imperative with keeping emotions at ease on of the most important days of your life. The service of the staff was excellent. The food was amazing. Everyone that attended had nothing but good things to say. Thank you for all your hard work!! We could not have been more happy. Everyone had a blast!! Wendi Weigle, mother of the groom
My husband and I had our wedding reception at the Wyndham Gettysburg and we were aboslutely amazed! We had this image in our head of how everything would turn out and they blew our minds! We couldn't believe of nice everything was! The food was delicious, the service was fantastic and what more can a bride ask for! Any special request that we had was met! At the Wyndham Gettysburg they made our dreams come true!
This hotel was very clean and the staff was friendly. We had to have a two night minimum, but they waived this for my ill grandfather and I really appreciated the hotel's understanding for the situation. They were happy to pass out the guest bags that we had made for everyone. There was chocolate covered strawberries waiting for us when we returned. We enjoyed out stay and would definitely return to this hotel the next time that we are in the area.
The Wyndham Gettysburg is a wonderful venue. We had out ceremony and our reception here. The hotel is inviting, bright, and cheerful. The staff is so amazing and is there 100% of the time for anything and everything that might come up. I worked directly with the Wedding Coordinator Angie Kemp. Angie goes above and beyond to make sure that a bride's day is special. Any detail I wanted to add she took care of. We had a food tasting ahead of time, she gave me seating charts, forms to fill out, timelines - anything you would need to plan out the day. Then on the day of she and her staff kept things rolling on track and on time. She made me feel special and even sent me an email saying she was so excited for my wedding the week of the event. Angie made the experience what I wanted it to be. I also had a lady in waiting for the bridal party the day of the wedding who was there to get us drinks, make sure we had enough food, and get us whatever it was we needed. Overall my experience at the Wyndham was elegant and gorgeous! I had a great time and appreciate everything that Angie and the rest of the staff took care of to make the day go according to my wishes.
We had a very large wedding and the staff at the Wyndham did a great job making sure that every one of our guests were taken care of and enjoyed their time at the reception and the hotel. My only issues were with the communication between the wedding planning staff and myself/groom. We had to wait more than two weeks at times to hear back, they didn't book our cake person in time and we had to go else where, and during the reception there was no one to help make sure the schedule of the night was flowing properly. I have been to other weddings there when this wasn't a problem, so I don't believe this is something that always occurs, however if you decide to go with the Wynhdam be sure to get in writing and put in your contract EVERYTHING! you want and be sure they hold to it.
Overall, everything was well done, a beautiful location, resonable prices, and fanstastic food. I would recommend this vendor to anyone.
