My now spouse and I first discussed our ideal wedding location two years ago and though our initial details were sparse, we could agree that all we ultimately wanted was a funky celebration in the woods with music, dancing and interesting activities and in YMCA’s Camp Campbell, we found our perfect match. What we couldn’t have known from the first time we saw pictures and videos was how removed, pristine and borderline enchanted it felt to be there. Even in the cool January temperatures of our wedding weekend, the venue felt like the summer camp of our dreams and served as the perfect setting for what ended up being the wedding of a lifetime.
From the moment we set foot on the property, our minds raced thinking about our guests walking on the lofted walkways connecting the cabins among the trees. As we surveyed the interiors, I remember the both of us grinning uncontrollably as the archery, axe throwing, basketball court and high ropes courses popped into view. With friends and families traveling from both coasts, we knew we wanted a cozy and stunning venue that would definitively and conclusively be worth the trip. On the first day of our wedding weekend as we saw the various guests streaming up the road, gawking at the trees above, we knew that Camp Campbell had delivered.
Our guests loved the location and crisscrossed the property, trying their hands at the various activities, from board games to axe throwing to just exploring every inch of the place; aided by the staff distributing maps at check-in. To us, the range of activities weren’t just a distraction but they also reinforced the communal camp spirit and elevated the time preceding and following the wedding. This camp spirit was also fostered by the staff who were very helpful and receptive on site. They made sure events like the s’mores bonfire went off without a hitch and they were flexible with adjustments our planner had to make when the weather was less than ideal. Though the venue requires that they manage meals (so no outside vendors for food), the breakfast, lunch and dinner were perfectly serviceable and we really appreciated the late-night snacks they made for some of the more energetic members of the wedding who danced the night away. Though there were fewer menu options for some of our vegans in the wedding, there’s a boutique grocery store about a 5 minute drive down the road.
We specifically chose this location not just because of all the factors listed above but because it offered gorgeous indoor and outdoor alternatives for the ceremony; critical for a January wedding which could be as sunny as it was rainy. Our outdoor plan for the ceremony was the redwood grove and our indoor plan was the glass atrium. Even though the ceremony ended up inside, we have zero regrets and the pictures are just as beautiful as they would have been outside. If we had to pick a shortcoming for the venue, it might be how responsive they were in the months leading up to the event. While the weekend itself went off without a hitch, there were a handful of anxious moments in the lead-up where we were awaiting a necessary contract update or pricing information.
We cannot help but recommend YMCA Camp Campbell, especially if you love nature, camp vibes and staring at redwoods. My spouse and I deeply appreciate all the wonderful memories we made there and we know that any wedding held there will be similarly magical.
Don't do it no matter what past reviews say. Started the process with Camp Campbell in late 2019. Venue coordinator changed 3 times with no notification that we were being passed on to someone else and each had no clue what promises or decisions had been made by the coordinator before them. Unfortunately COVID hit so we signed a new contract in Apr 2020 for a June 2021 date. In March 2021 we had new invites sent out, new vendor contracts signed, lots of work performed, and then....Camp Campbell a month prior to the wedding date sends an email, no phone call, stating "they booked a youth YMCA camp over the wedding and the wedding date is now cancelled", WTF! We ended up losing contracts with vendors, scrambling to find a new location, and Camp Campbell never once apologized to the bride and groom for this gigantic scheduling error. Do not have your wedding here.
Camp Campbell was an amazing venue for our winter wedding, and I imagine it would be even better in the summer ! Our event manager, Lacey, was very easy to work with. We ended up having about 100 people stay in the canins and they loved it! The food was great all weekend and the staff was friendly and helpful. Can’t imagine it going any better.
Get married here! My husband and I got married at YMCA Camp Campbell in late October 2018. We got married in the outdoor chapel, and had our reception on the lawn outside of Swenson's Lodge. Here are my thoughts:
Staff, Food, and Flexibility
We worked with Shelby for the early planning, and then transitioned over to Aubrey when Shelby moved onto a new position. Both ladies were professional, friendly, and very responsive! Aubrey even helped keep me calm when a wildfire broke out near the venue the week of my wedding. The day of went perfectly (at least to my knowledge :) ). The food came out on time, and was delicious. The staff was great, and Aubrey was very good at helping us stay with the timeline, while giving us flexibility when we wanted to take photos for a little longer. She definitely went above and beyond to make sure the day went exactly how we pictured it.
Value
The only reason it doesn't get all 5 stars is because the price for a Saturday wedding is fairly high. For this reason, I chose to get married on a Sunday. The price for the food and venue was lower than any other venue and caterer I found while venue hunting. Plus, as a non-profit they don't charge sales tax and can't accept gratuity/service charge, so theres no 30% extra charge, like there is at other venues. Definitely worth it!
Venue
My husband and I have been dreaming of our big day for 12 years, and always envisioned being outdoors. I cannot say enough good things about how gorgeous this place is! An outdoor chapel in the redwoods, a wood lodge, and string lights, it doesn't get better than that!
As a bride, and event planner, I highly recommend tying the knot here! I would do it again if I could :)
