I went to Young's Bridal for alterations to my wedding dress. Young and her assistant were very helpful and helped me get a comfortable and beautiful fit.
Young was amazing to work with for alterations. She worked with me as an out of town bride and made sure the schedule worked with me. She did an amazing job altering my dress and even recommended a specific dry cleaner. She called them immediately and made sure I was prioritized with their group. I am happy with her services and her prices were very reasonable. I even brought my own belt and she got it attached for me. Really a great place and very positive interaction!
I’ll start off by saying she does good work, and the dress did come out as desired, however the process to get there was somewhat painful.
Cons:
1) Just overall not very professionally run. Again, good work and they were courteous, however they double booked TWICE on me even when I had called to confirm appointments which isn’t great for working people who have tighter schedules. She also didn’t take notes of what I needed done, which, with how much there was to do, you think she would. So instead, I basically had to reminder her every time I went because she would forget something or didn’t make the sleeves as originally asked.
2) They also don’t give clear information on pricing, so MAKE SURE YOU ASK. This one is on me because I just trusted the total estimate she gave me ($300-$400) In the end she charged MORE THAN DOUBLE what she originally told me (almost $1000!!!) and when I asked why she didn’t tell me. I had it taken in, a bustle added (one that was extremely simple and she said would be cheaper), a belt sewn on, and sleeves added. I had a friend get similar items done to her dress along with a hemming and she paid half what I did at Bahar for work of the same quality. They need to be far more upfront and not just give “ranges” that they don’t even stick to. And if they charge by the hour then at least make that clear, especially when they are redoing stuff because they didn’t listen to what I originally asked for. Again, this one is on me for going in naively and not requesting written breakdowns on cost that I could hold her to. Way overpriced, I wish I’d challenged her on it more.
3) I scheduled way in advance because I new there was a lot that needed to be done and conveyed that multiple times, along with the date I needed to pick it up, they kept reassuring me there was enough time. As the weeks got closer they finally saw their mistake in putting it off and all of a sudden I had to go to several fittings in a week which was quite frustrating schedule wise. And in the end it wasn’t even done when I had originally requested (and reminded several times) and when I went to pick up it they had still forgotten some things.
4) Kind of trivial but was frustrating...she insisted I needed a strapless bra and I had to get it to her right away, so I went and bought one and drove it over but she kept delaying putting it in and in the end didn’t add it. So that was a waste of money... :/
Overall, I’d say if you only need something very simple like it taken in or a bustle added, you should be fine. But make sure you get a break down in pricing that you can hold them to BEFORE you give them your dress. Otherwise they will charge more than originally stated and it is so not worth it. If you need anything special, or a lot of work done, I would NOT recommend coming here...
Young's Bridal was a miracle worker with my wedding dress! When I received my dress from my bridal shop and tried it on, it was too small in the rib cage and it could not be buttoned up. There was no way I could lose enough weight in my rib cage area to get the dress to button. I took the dress to Young's Bridal to get the bodice fixed, to have an American bustle added to the dress and to have the dress hemmed. Young's assured me that they could easily take a little bit of the extra lace from the train of my dress to allow for more room in my bodice and they did! The dress is absolute perfection! I was extra impressed because the material they had to fix/add was tulle. It only took the shop 3 weeks to work on my dress and they were so sweet and kind with every interaction. To sing their praises even more, their prices are incredibly fair and reasonable as well!
I HIGHLY recommend taking your dress to Young's if you live in the Dayton/Cincinnati area. You won't be disappointed!
My dress was a little rough around the edges when I got it but nothing that was unable to be fixed. When I got the dress back, after careful observation I noticed much of those little things were still not fixed. I was also promised a cleaned and steamed dress which neither of those I got. Her prices were also a little steep for the amount of work I actually had on the dress. I would recommend shopping around first before setting your sights on Young’s.
Young's did a wonderful job on my wedding dress! My dress had a LOT of lace and detail and it was not easy to alter because I needed it a few inches shorter. She managed to piece it all together and make it look like it was meant to be that way! I couldn't even tell where she altered the lace design to piece it back together. It was really impressive! Very happy with my experience at Young's!
I was recommended Young's by my store I bought my dress. I brought my mother to the fitting my dress was supposed to be completed and they could not find my dress for about 10 minutes and kept asking me what it looked like. They then found it and it had not been touched since the last time I had been to a fitting and was in pieces. The next time I came back it was incredibly tight at my upper waist and I had not needed it to be taken in. I asked if it had been, and they said it had not but then said they could somehow take out 2.5 inches. I have my dress now and it does look great, but it was a bit of a hard time to get to this point. The ladies there are very nice and hard workers and I hate writing a bad review, but had a difficult time with my dress alterations there.
I have used Young's in the past to hem evening gowns but this time we used them for my daughters strapless wedding dress. Her dress was full of beautiful lace that had to be taken off then the wedding dress was hemmed and the lace all restitched back on. They did an awesome job. The thing that put them over the top at a rating of more that 110% was that her dress also had to be taken up and a belt sewn on. When she went back after 3 weeks, she had lost more weight (not trying to) and they had to take the dress up on the sides again. She picked the dress up with her wedding being only two weeks later. She tried the dress on again the Friday night before her Sunday wedding and she had lost more weight so the dress was basically falling off her. On Saturday I called Young's explaining this to them. Without hesitation she told my daughter to bring the dress in for fitting and she would stay after closing to work on it. Saturday night at 8p.m. I picked up the dress for the next days big event. It fit perfectly and was beautiful. Young's was there to make sure the dress fit perfectly even after they had to alter her dress 3 times. My daughter looked stunning thanks to all of Young's hard work and willingness without hesitation to stay late just to work on my daughters dress. Thank you to Young's alterations.
Young does amazing work! I lost a considerable amount of weight before my wedding and my dress had a lot of lace design, plus the arm holes in my dress were way too tight (small). This made things very complicated! Young was able to alter my dress and she made it beautiful! She is very detail oriented and takes pride in her work. She is highly recommended.
I had the best experience here! I was turned away from another place for alterations due to the amount I wanted done (top and sleeves added, etc.). She took me right in! She was so kind, and paid so much attention to the detail. She made my dress perfect!
