I think I'll quit my day job and work as a wedding coordinator as they seem to make a killing for doing nothing, so it seems for my wedding coordinator anyway. We paid her a bundle for what she did, mainly nothing since I found all of my vendor...s myself. She only found the DJ for us and that was it! Otherwise I did everything else myself. The only reason we didn't let her go was we thought she'd screw us and keep the estate since it had to be under her name and we'd end up without a site to have our wedding!(Which we didn't doubt for a minute she would do!)She was ok up until I found out the prices she was getting for us regarding all the details were NOT the best prices ie: we had a shuttle to take our guests to and from the wedding site back to the hotel - well she was charging us $350.00 MORE than the company itself. How is it possible, I happen to come across the same company when making a few calls and without even negotiating much they gave me a WAY better deal? So either she pockets the remaining, which again she told us she doesn't do like ALL THE OTHER COORDINATORS on the island do..(15% charge to book vendors!!!!!!) or the company makes a killing because Kara doesn't really spend a lot of time getting you a good deal on anything. That was the main reason we decided to hire a coordinator, so we'd be able to get better pricing!I can't even express our disappointment with Kara and her cold, unfriendly assistant. We met on site the day before the wedding to finalize the layout of the tent, tables, catering tables etc, she even DREW a layout out, and when we got there the next day it was NOTHING CLOSE to what it was supposed to be?? WTH??On top of things I, myself, the bride, was calling everyone over to sit down for dinner - what were the TWO of them doing?? The only time I saw her do anything that whole day was to get me set up to walk down the aisle. Sure they set up the the flip flops we had for guest, and the umbrellas, but the layout for the ceremony was wrong, the tent layout was wrong, and she didn't even get us good pricing for anything! I was the one who called each and every vendor myself to negotiate prices, to talk about time lines, set up, and most everything else!
She had great reviews, as I did initially make her send me references, however I suspect these other brides were very young, did not have a lot of life experience and went with whatever she said. I on the other hand, know how much things cost, (her bs line she kept trying to feed me, it's Maui that's why it's more expensive! Yes so really you're saying that the locals like to rip people off and don't even care that they do), did some more research on my own and found far better pricing than she was giving simply by making one or two phone calls!She along with a few other vendors definitely left a distaste with us regarding Maui and the whole island itself. And our budget wasn't cheap, we were spending well over $30k for 35 people!! That's right 35 people!She seems nice enough as a person but was SO disorganized especially right at the end, missing our payments, information I'd send to her via email and so many other details.By the time our wedding day was here, I just didn't care about these details and I wasn't going to let HER and her assistant ruin our day. I'm still so upset with her I make my husband talk to her about the deposit on the estate we're to get back!(Which she initially told us 7 days, and now it's a few weeks!)
