"Why a wedding planner?"
First, I live in Washington D.C. and my fiancee lives in Florida. Despite my love of DIY and planning, I knew that I needed help in planning our Florida wedding. My family is in the wedding/events/arts industry and I w...as a wedding harpist for years before changing careers. I thought I would be fine but I started getting overwhelmed the first week after he proposed when everyone else had a vision for my wedding (and the credentials to back it up). And so the researching into planners began. . .
"Why YSD?"
YSD events exceeded my expectations. The first phone call inquiry blew all of the other vendors we contacted out of the water. Brad offered a referral (I contacted the bride and she gave 10 gold stars!) & spoke candidly about the depth and breadth of their services and experience with Jamaican/Korean events. They were sincere and understanding of my long-distance situation. Brad understood the significance of my fiancee being in the military & not knowing if we'd be in the same state after the wedding.
"What's communication like?"
They responded so well though email, text, and phone calls and worked well with my work schedule.
Months later, we met for the tasting and it felt like meeting old friends. Although I arrived a little later, YSD used the time to do a venue walkthrough & had so many great ideas when we arrived. The venue rep ended up offering add-ons complimentary!
Justin is responsive and candid about budget saving ideas and navigating family dynamics. Brad has laser attention to detail. Together, they offered creative touches that we know will make the day uniquely ours.
"Sure, but what about the cost?"
They worked well in our budget and helped me prioritize based on our vision. My fiancee and I paid for most of the wedding so we're concerned about overspending. Despite our budget changing a few times, YSD has helped to tailor my event in a way that guests can enjoy all aspects of the day. We avoided spending on things that would get overlooked. Well, *drumroll* we're now well within our wedding budget & will not sweat financial bullets at the start of our new married life (a great plus indeed!).
Needless to say, my fiancee is very happy. And I am THRILLED.
I'm not sure if most brides are stressed at this point in the process but I feel secure and confident about the upcoming days. Undoubtedly, it's because I know that YSD is guiding the way.
So my final thoughts?
GET YSD EVENTS, especially if you're:
-a long-distance bride. . .
-thinking you've got all the artistic skills and Etsy prowess to DIY (don't worry, you can still put that glue gun to work)
-worried about the cost of a planner (they help you save more in the long run)
-having an ethnic/cultural ceremony and not sure if they'll "get it" (they're all over this!)
-thinking you can find all the vendors yourself (YSD doesn't just find vendors, they help fill in any gaps/negotiate contracts/negotiate with the venue)
-worried that your super artsy family will be offended (especially get YSD because you want to enjoy your family on the big day, not put them to work. My family was confused at first but now my mother raves about them).
Maybe I should've waited until after the wedding to review (and I can totally give an update!). But it just hit me...I should be freaking out but I have time to enjoy this glass of wine and bing watch my favorite show. Tschüss!
