Dobrina Zhekova is a lifestyle journalist based in Alexandria, Virginia. She hails from Bulgaria and lived in Sweden, France and Portugal before moving to the U.S. After receiving her master’s degree in journalism, she worked at ELLE.com and Brides.com.
Dobrina has been a freelance journalist for five years, covering travel, fashion, beauty, design, architecture, weddings and home décor.
Dobrina likes to travel, read foreign magazines, and learn new languages when she is not writing. She is fluent in French and can speak enough Spanish, Portuguese and Italian to ask for directions if she ever gets lost (which she never does because she always carries an actual physical map on her). Her most recent obsession is learning Icelandic.
Experience
Dobrina grew up wanting to be a fashion designer. She spent her childhood reading fashion magazines, which eventually led her to a career in lifestyle journalism. Dobrina’s writing has appeared in Vogue.com, HarpersBazaar.com, ELLE.com, InStyle.com, TravelandLeisure.com, Brides.com, and many more.
Her job and voracious appetite for travel have taken her to some of the most beautiful places in the world.
Education
Dobrina graduated from the American University in Bulgaria with a double major in journalism and political science and a minor in fine arts. She received her M.A. in journalism from Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY.
