Kate Wood is a writer and editor who has done it all. She has experience with print, digital, content marketing, academic publishing, social media, copywriting, and more. She has covered wedding, home decor, and finance topics. Kate currently works as a Mortgages Writer for NerdWallet. With an educational background in sociology, issues like reducing housing inequality are close to her heart. Kate is an avid DIY-er who has crazy crochet skills.
Kate started her career as an Associate Editor for The Knot. After three years writing and editing for The Knot magazines and TheKnot.com, she was promoted to Contributing Editor. During her four years in this position, Kate returned to school to receive her Master’s. While attending UC San Diego, Kate worked as a Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant. In 2013, she was hired by Vital Digital as a Creative Director. Kate also worked as a Freelance Writer while in this position. Kate joined the This Old House Ventures team first as an Associate Editor. She was later promoted to Senior Editor before moving into a Freelance Writer and Online Producer role. Kate was then hired into her current position as a Mortgages Writer for NerdWallet.
Kate received a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Vassar College and a Master’s Degree in Sociology from the University of California, San Diego. While in graduate school she co-authored Becoming Right: How Campuses Shape Young Conservatives (Princeton University Press, 2014).
