il hour! I could not be happier!

time I think about the photography at my wedding I get extremely upset. AK has very competitive rates and you get a discount if you pay in full when you book. There is an extra charge to guarantee Alex himself on your wedding day- in our case it was 30% of our overall bill, so we decided to wing it in the spirit of trying to save money, and just hope that he would be free that day or that one of his other photographers/videographers would do a great job. As of 14 days before the wedding, we were told Alex was secured for our date. That was not the case. I had no way of knowing how big of an influence that photography has on your wedding day- they basically run the entire timeline and the whole flow of the day. The photographers that showed up were nice, but they did not take control or tell us what to do or when. I sent emails to AK with screenshots of exactly what pictures I hoped for at my venue, and the photographers I was given told my husband and I that they had never seen any pictures I sent before. Our family members showed up 2 hours early for family portraits, as suggested by AK, so that they’d be finished before the ceremony. Well that time came and went because the photographers took so long taking getting ready pictures; they kept asking me what pictures I wanted next and I didn’t know??! They didn’t seem to know what they were doing. Everything was so rushed due to them running behind that we had to take the family portraits during cocktail hour so we all missed the entire thing which we were trying to avoid. I didn’t even get to LOOK at it, and I didn’t get to see my welcome or reception area beforehand and barely during (because it goes by so fast). Something that I reiterated ahead of time that was very important to me was the fact that I handmade everything for my wedding. I wanted pictures of my projects, and I wanted to at least SEE everything on display that day! The only pictures I have of the welcome area are from my guests’ pictures from their phones. This is disappointing because of all the work I put into it and because I especially wanted pictures of it all to keep forever. My whole wedding felt rushed and it was over before I knew it. I was so disappointed by how negatively my day was impacted by the photography and I tried not be bothered by it; I was hoping that once I got my pictures back it would make it all worth it. Unfortunately that was not the case. The pictures I have received are comparable to the ones my guests took on their cell phones. I had to specially request some pictures to be edited above and beyond so I feel like they are “real” wedding pictures and can get hung up in my house. I also hate to say this- but our super cute and classy Sunday-brunch-wedding-in-a-Vineyard pictures never made it on the company’s social media- and I truly believe it’s because of the quality of our pictures (not because we’re ugly).

All of the photos in the web album are great quality, and amazing shots. Our wedding is coming up and could not be happier with our decision to use Alex Kaplan. was the only hiccup that we had. He walked around and took multiple pictures at various locations that we knew of around the island and offered suggestions of other areas as we were walking that caught his artistic eye. We just sent out our save the dates and have received so many compliments on the photos. Looking forward to even more pictures at our wedding!

During the brief moments in between portrait sessions, I also really enjoyed speaking with Jasmine and thought she was very interesting, personable, and easy to work with. During the months leading up to our wedding, email communication was spot-on and very timely. So we made an appointment to meet with Alex, which he managed to work with us to get all of the shots we wanted as well as the wedding albums we were looking for, all while staying within our budget. We found this to be a rarity while searching for photographers. Alex and his team were extremely professional and helped organize all of the shots. They made sure to get in all of our requested shots as well as work in more artistic shots that turned out better than we could have ever imagine. I wanted to get engagement photos taken at my alma mater and the parking situation was complex (paid visitor parking in certain lots only, no addresses for certain lots, etc), but they navigated it with ease and made it stress-free! We got our engagement photos taken the day before Thanksgiving. Michael was my photographer and he communicated via text message to let me know he was on his way. He was very professional, made us feel comfortable, and never complained about the eye-watering cold. I wanted pictures taken on two different campuses and even though time was running out, Michael was very accommodating and insisted that we drive to the other campus to get the photos that we wanted. We got our pictures taken November 21st and got them back on November 30th which was extremely fast given the holiday. And we got 250 pictures - way more than I was expecting! I'm very excited for my wedding day and can't wait to work with Alex Kaplan again.

is a studio and Alex, himself, isn't always guaranteed. Thankfully, Alex worked our wedding and we were happy with the team he brought along (Jasmine & Reina). We had a conference call with Alex weeks prior to the wedding and gave him exact details of what we desired. We gave Alex a list of all "must" pictures and whom to be photographed. Alex took control of all the candid pictures and Jasmine took control of all posed pictures, Reina was our videographer however she also gave input on certain poses. We received our photo/video's and we are happy with the product. We are finalizing our wedding album and we hope everything comes out beautiful. We recommend Alex and his team to future couples.

ager was responsive to all my emails, photo ideas, and concerns I had about the timeline. The two photographers and videographer were very professional, friendly, and super helpful in informing us how everything will flow and simply putting us at ease. They had all my photo ideas down when they arrived and was able to capture everything from us getting ready and first look to our sparkler send off. We received our photos fairly quickly and was very pleased with how beautiful they came out. The candid and posed pictures were just a perfect combination. Our wedding video came out so beautiful that I cried again looking at it and remembering my perfect day.
