ly negative discussion I had on your wedding day was your family member that was DJing. He was very insistent on me holding a microphone while officiating your ceremony. When I told him I generally use both hands for my notes that I would prefer to have a mic stand. He said he didn't bring one. I said, okay I'll figure it out. Then he stated that for your vows that I hold the mic in front of each of you. Of course, I can absolutely do that, it's just that over 2,200 weddings I've officiated it is my experience that for this most important part of the ceremony I am not needed or usually wanted in the pictures. This is a very personal time for the bride and groom. With having someone stand there while you two are making a lifelong covenant is not usually done. I then suggested that he simply mic the groom up with a lapel mic (which is done at 99% of the 2,286 weddings I've officiated. He stated they didn't bring any lapel mics or a mic stand. Perhaps I did register a sense of surprise/disappointment at an industry standard that is so simple was overlooked. He seemed upset and said he was just doing this as a favor anyway because he was family and that this is not his fulltime job. I went to him, shook his hand, and apologized. I stated I did not realize that. He said it was all good and he just wanted a good vibe. I said absolutely. That was the end of it. I am very surprised that this was communicated to you in a different manner and apologize again if anything involving me caused stress. I pray you have a wonderful marriage.
