Black Tie Formalwear

I cannot in good faith recommend Black Tie Formalwear to anyone. Working with this company was by far the worst experience of the entire wedding. It’s been a month since we got married, and I’m still angry with this company for how they handled everything. Avoid this vendor! We first went into Black Tie months in advance of the wedding so we could be as prepared as possible. We spoke with a gentleman who did a very good job at selling us on some tuxes. My husband was sized, we selected some colored vests, and we were told we’d receive a phone call within a week to come back and try everything on. After about a week and a half without hearing back from the company, we contacted them for a status update. Whomever we spoke to let us know they couldn’t find any record of us, and would look into it. Another week goes by and we don’t hear from anyone. We call again. We were told there was no record of us ever having been there, whatever paperwork he filled out was missing, and nothing had been ordered. So now three weeks has passed since we first go into the store. This should have been our first red flag and in retrospect we should have never given them the benefit of the doubt, but I know how mistakes can happen. We go back to the store and go through the entire process again. When we made our decision on the tux, we paid for ALL the tux rentals for all groomsmen and our officiant. We paid hundreds of dollars on these tux rentals. When TWO of our groomsmen went to get sized, they were charged for the tuxes we had already paid for… and when we attempted to get a refund for our groomsmen, we were told they had to be present at the location to get a refund. So not only did they charge us twice for two tuxes, they inconvenienced our groomsmen by making them drive out of their way just to get a refund for something they never should have been charged for in the first place. Then one of our groomsmen had a question about shoes, and when I called the company to ask about the shoes they stated he had never been in to get sized. Except my groomsmen had a receipt and a business card from the company showing his order and that he’d been there to be sized. Yet again they lost our paperwork. Luckily we had the sizes on the receipt so we only had to provide the sizes over the phone - but still. Had I not called and asked about shoes, would we even have gotten a tux for the wedding? Fast forward to the wedding. Our officiant was given his tuxedo without a vest and the wrong shoes. Our best man was given a shirt several sizes too small (he had to leave it unbuttoned under his vest the entire night). And my husband’s tuxedo? It didn’t arrive on time. We weren’t able to pick it up until the night before the wedding when it was promised to us several days in advance (and for anyone planning a wedding, last minute stressors like not knowing if you’ll have your husband’s tuxedo for the wedding are NOT FUN). After all of this? We were offered nothing in way of apology or customer service. No - this didn’t ruin our wedding in any way. We had the perfect night, and in the whole scheme of things a tuxedo is not the end of the world. But wedding planning can be very stressful, and vendors are supposed to make the process less stressful not more. This was a nightmare. Their prices are competitive and Sue (the manager at the Fox Valley location) did try to do everything she could to fix situations when they went wrong. But it just wasn’t enough.

This place is terrible. Over half of the 8 tuxes had major issues. Pants that were too small for a 31” waste along with one pant leg being 6 “ longer than the other. One tux with holes in the front of the jacket. Other jackets that didn’t fit. My pant leg hem kept coming out all night and the jacket arms were just folded under so they came out too. Half the tuxes didn’t come with black buttons so they had to just use the shirt buttons. I brought back my tux and my coat was misplaced which was my fault. They told me they would charge my credit card FOR $600!!!! It was a total rip off for a jacket that was well worn and they clearly were taking advantage of their customers. Thankfully the hotel found the jacket. Very poor quality and service.

This is for the Glen Ellyn, IL location.... As I post the one star for this review, if I could post less than 1 star, I would. Service at Black Tie Formalwear was terrible from the first day I stepped foot in there. If I could go back and re-do anything with our wedding, the tux rental place would be the only change we would do. It was my husband's request to use Black Tie as his brother used them a couple years prior for his wedding, okay I went along with it. The first appointment we had, the kid helping us had absolutely no knowledge on how to do his job and was so unproductive, we spent 2 hours there for 3 people to get measured. I figured that would have been the one and only issue there but oh no, I thought wrong. Upon arrival of the tuxes for pick-up the Wednesday before the wedding, I do not understand where the disconnect was between the office and the warehouse but every single order that arrived was wrong or defective. Tell me how does this happen 2 days before the wedding for pants to arrive with holes in them, jackets being sent in COMPLETELY different sizes, pants way too long as well as sleeves and the shirts with disgusting stains on the collars. I'm sorry, but if I am paying that much money to RENT a tux for one day, I would at least expect it to fit and be clean. A shirt is not that expensive to replace.... my dad was repulsed to be wearing a shirt that had stains on the collar and I do not blame him. Everyone at the store kept saying oh that's the right size on the jackets when clearly they were too big from what was tried on and what was shipped. It's ridiculous that once bringing the tuxes home, I had to double check each item for holes, again. All in all, the customer service here was shit.... my husband was so humiliated that his groomsmen and father/father-in-law had to deal with these issues, he contacted the store and the regional manager. Amanda, the regional manager was in email contact with him for a while about the issues we had and promised to help by reimbursing the guys that had the issues with their tuxes and then all of a sudden the emails stopped. No reimbursement or even a sorry this happened email. I am SO HAPPY that this company will never get our money or friends' money as I will never recommend this company to anyone. If you want to add extra stress to your wedding planning, use Black Tie .... if you want to not have extra unnecessary stress.. I suggest go anywhere else. Thanks for adding extra stress to my 2 days before my wedding, said no bride ever.

Caitlin at West Dundee was absolutely amazing!! She worked with us to find the perfect tux for our wedding. She brought in a variety of different options of tuxedos and helped us brainstorm what we could do to make my fiance stand out from his groomsmen. I would definitely recommend BTF especially if you get to work with Caitlin in West Dundee; she's amazing! :)

Black Tie Formalwear staff were extremely helpful and professional. We had no issues and had such a wonderful experience utilizing their services. Also, they are one of the few places that carry a nice navy suit.

The tuxes looked great and everyone was very friendly. But there were a few things I didn't like. My suit (groom) was measured poorly. My shirt was very long, and the jacket sleeves and pants were very short. The staff fixed this quickly in house and I looked great afterwards. One of my groomsmen had size 34 pants and wore a 31, another groomsmen had to pick up the correct pants from another location. I requested no suspenders or vests, and everyone received suspenders. A saleswoman tried to sell me on adding a vest on the day before the wedding. All of the emails I got from Black tie had the wrong name. Each email was addressed to Nick, and my name is Danny. Black tie is a cheap rental, so you get what you pay for.

My now-husband and I had an excellent tuxedo experience at Black Tie Formalwear, from the try-on appointment to the wedding weekend. The personal service, wide selection, and competitive prices that Black Tie offers are not available at all other formalwear stores! The groom and his party looked so good on our wedding day. They took care of everything and made it so easy on my husband and his groomsmen!

My husband got his tux here for our daughter’s wedding. Schaumburg, IL location. Terrible. Avoid!! Tons of alterations still needed at time of pickup. One sleeve was longer than the other on the jacket. Wrong pant rise was ordered. Hemmed pants on site and put them on and the hem fell right out. Shoes are very cheap and very uncomfortable. Short on staff. Multiple clients being taken care of by same person at same time. Only one person there at the time knew how to do alterations and they were not done professionally. Not a place I would recommend or ever go to again

I’m not sure why it was necessary for all the guys to come to get measured, anyone could have done the same at home with a tape measurer. The tuxes did not come in exactly as measured, so it’s not like it matter if the measurements were a few inches off. They had to adjust the tuxes when they were picked, so you can’t have someone pick up a tux for someone else. We weren’t able to get the ring bearer there, and when he put on his tux, his pants were about 5 inches too short. Luckily I had those 2-sided clothing tape, so we were able to cut the stitches of the hem and then retold the very bottom with the tape. The only good thing I can say about this vendor is that they were nice and took time to meet with us and let us try a lot of different combinations with different colored tuxes and vests. A few of the guys complained about the comfort of the shoes. The best man was a size 16 (or something like that) and the bigger shoe they could get was a size smaller. They DIDN’T even tell him this when they measured his feet! If they had, we could have figured something else out. But because we didn’t know it was going to be a problem a day before the wedding, he just sucked it up for pictures and the ceremony and then changed them. Which was extremely nice of him, since it had to be painful. I can’t believe they didn’t warn him that they couldn’t get his actual size! So basically unless you’re guys are average height, weight and sizes, this place probably isn’t the right pick for you. The arms and legs were too short for most of my guys, and they WERE pretty average sizes. For what it costs and the loops we had to jump through, I was expecting a much better fit.

The tuxes we picked were absolutely wonderful. We had the navy Ike Behar suits with navy vest and yellow sunbeam tie. When we initially went to Black Tie, the employee was very helpful! The biggest disappointment is that we had ties picked out, and when many of our groomsmen picked up their tuxes, they had no ties. They gave my husband a bunch of yellow ties to use for the tuxes. While we were flexible and able to use the ties, I thought it was unprofessional that their suits did not come as promised and that we were told this 1-2 days before the wedding. Long story short, great suit, but not the most professional. Also, the suit did not come with socks for the groom or groomsmen.

After having the worst experience ever while trying to find my future husband's wedding tux at Men's Warehouse, I was able to book an appointment within the hour at Black Tie. Mark was beyond helpful, and made our experience pleasant and easy. He took the time to help us choose the entire look for our groomsmen, our dads, and for my fiance for our wedding day. My fiance and I both left so happy and I couldn't thank Mark enough!!! Highly recommended!!

Got married February of this year 2018. I must have called about 5-6 different places just looking for pricing and availability, all of them being over the top or strict appt times. Black Tie gave myself nor my groomsmen no hassles!! Work with us from start to finish to assure everything was perfect. Due to our wedding being at the beginning of Religious Lent we work with Black Tie on being able to pick up all tuxes 3 days before instead of 2 days! When it came to all measurements minor adjustments needed to be made (we are human nothing is perfect) which were made on the spot with out needing to panic!! Our over all experience was great and I will with out a doubt be back in the future for any special occasion needs! Thank you Black Tie Glen Ellyn!!!!

Black Tie Formalwear is the best!!!! It has taken me too long to write this but I am still as pleased with their service as the day of our wedding. My husband and I wanted blue/navy tuxedo's and they were more difficult to find. We went to a few places and Black Tie Formalwear had the best customer service and best price. They were so accommodating and helpful with all our questions and provided great advice. My husband even got a free suit included in the Tuxedo rental. The management team also saved us on a last minute black tie function and my husband was able to rent a tux the same day. We will always recommend this business and use them for any future rentals. We went to the Schaumburg location but the groomsmen could pick up the tux at any of their locations. So glad we chose Black Tie Formalwear!

Sarah thoroughly answered all our questions and set up the necessary details for our rental reservation for our July 2017 wedding. Sarah followed up with reminded emails and information and made the fittings a breeze and without stress. My husband and our son were measured accurately and their tuxedos fit absolutely perfect on wedding day!! Our son was absolutely ecstatic about how much he loves his tuxedo!! My husband rented a navy tuxedo and my son rented a black tuxedo. Sarah was kind and sent a follow-up email after our wedding. Her communication and accuracy is superior!! This place was amazing! We rented tuxes for our wedding from the Schaumburg location. The staff is great and their selection is large. Carlos was our guy there and he took great care of the groom and groomsmen. Would definitely use them for future events!

We had a great experience with Black Tie Formal Wear for our wedding (4/29/17) especially with Manager Tom at the Irving Park location. We had a couple of issues pop up which they promptly addressed and resolved. We had a great wedding and everyone complimented our tuxedoes for the groomsmen and ushers. They have convenient locations in the Chicagoland area and we were able to receive a great promotion

Black tie formal wear in aurora was great to work with!! I emailed Amanda anytime I had questions and she was always so nice and efficient and willing to answer any of my questions. The price to rent the whole suit (including vest, shoes, shirt, and tie) was the best deal I was able to find in the surrounding area. My fiance' also got a free suit to keep and a free rental! What is better than that!? The whole process was smooth and stress-free and can't wait to see my groom and the groomsmen in their tux's next week for our wedding!

The Irving Park location is amazing! I love working with Tom V, and the entire staff there is great! We have since recommended them to others, and would not hesitate to use them in the future! They are accommodating, and super personable. They respond quickly to emails and phone calls, and even call to check in! What a great place, and we are so happy we decided to use them!

Tom is amazing! He was so helpful and so accommodating. The majority of our wedding party were from out of town but he made it all so easy. He made my husbands suit shopping expieriance do special. My husband is a very tall man and Tom ordered the suits he likes in his size so that we could pick the best suit for our special day. We went to one other very well known tux chain and it was a terrible expieriance so blessed to have found this place would recommend to everyone.

Our wedding is in November of 2018 but after such great service buying my dress at the same location ( House of Brides Couture ) we decided to stop in. The gentleman was great putting on pieces we were interested in..guided us exactly to what we envisioned. Would have given 5 stars but the tux we wanted in ivory to match my dress wasn't in stock.

I recently got married and decided to use Black Tie to get all my groomsmen looking sharp. This was one of the best decisions I I have made in the wedding planning process. Tom at the Irving Park location really took the work out of my hands and took care of everything. I had one guy from out of town and a ring bearer(little guy); all they had to do was send in their measurements. Thanks Tom and your team for taking care of us!

One of the best customer service experiences I have had during my wedding planning process! These gentlemen are awesome to work with! Tommy at the Irving Park location is great, he really knows how to assist in choosing the right fit for the perfect tux. We also purchased our wedding invitations through them and LOVE them!!! So easy to rent the tuxedos from here! All of them came in early for the guys to try on beforehand and then we paid for them to pick them up from the hotel, instead of having to go back to the store to return. And they were great quality and great price.

We had booked everything well in advance, but as usual, there are always a few who wait until the last minute. The manager at the Harlem and Irving location, Tommy Ventura, went above and beyond to make sure our day came together. He was so helpful about letting us know that people were still needing to be fitted so that I could give my groomsmen reminders. The suits looked great and the service was exceptional.

I can't say enough good things about Mark. From the moment we walked in he was so attentive and pleasant. He had everything we wanted and made sure that we were able to see everything before we made a decision. After the bad experience we had at Men's Warehouse it was so nice coming here and dealing with Mark. I highly recommend him. We cannot say enough about how happy we were Black Tie for our invitations and tuxedo rentals. We received so many compliments on our invitations, people couldn't believe how beautiful and well made they were. We said time and again that we created them with Black Tie's consultant, that the process was easy and inexpensive. As far as the tuxedos go, the process couldn't have gone any smoother. The majority of our wedding party was from out of town and called their measurements into the location in Lombard. All of the tuxedos were the perfect fit and in pristine condition. Black Tie was professional and precise from the beginning of our planning process to the end. I would highly recommend them to any couples getting married in the Chicago area and beyond. We were married in Wisconsin so they allowed us extra time to pick up and drop off the tuxedos to accommodate travel! Again, such a wonderful company to work with!

I used Black Tie Formalwear at the Irving Park location for my 2 weddings (local and destination). The pricing was much lower compared to Men's Wearhouse which was great but the customer service was even better. The store manager Tom provided top notch service for my groomsmen and myself (both weddings). He has many years of experience in the business and it shows in his quality of service and professionalism. I highly recommend Black Tie Formalwear for anyone seeking great pricing, superb customer service, and high quality attire for any special occasion.

I used Black Tie Formal Wear for both my tuxes and my invitations. Everything was really high quality and the amazing/attentive customer service! I was so impressed with how quickly I received the invitations and they looked great without spending a small fortune! I highly recommend Black Tie Formal Wear for both tuxes and invitations!!

We used Black Tie for our suits for our wedding in September 2016. From the minute we walked into Black Tie at the Lincoln Park location we were treated as if our wedding was the only one on the books for the next year. Tom was simply amazing, within minutes of arriving there he had my soon-to-be husband dressed in exactly what we envisioned for the groom and groomsmen. And more importantly, we were more than comfortable with the price! Previously, my fiancé had been in a similar suit which cost over $200. Not the case with Black Tie. They truly worked with us to fit into OUR budget and we got exactly what we wanted! It was a seamless process from start to finish, Black Tie has enough locations that all of our wedding party was able to get fitted and pick up their suits at their convenience. Even our 2 out of town groomsmen were able to submit their measurements to Black Tie and their suits were a perfect fit. All the guys had minimal alterations at pick-up which was a huge relief! Over our engagement Black Tie opened a new location near Harlem and Irving, closer to our house (YAY!) Luckily, Tom also went to this location. He was able to change all our info over to this location which was awesome since it was one thing we didn't have to worry about. Tom kept us updated throughout the whole process. As a bride, I really really appreciated the online tool that updated when the boys went and got fitted. It made it easier to keep tabs on those pesky groomsmen who need a little push to get things done! We chose to have Black Tie to do the 'pick-up' service at our hotel the morning after...since we were well out of the service area we had to pay a very small fee but Tom and Black Tie were great about working with us. And all our groomsmen appreciated just dropping their suits at the front desk instead of going into the store. If you're considering doing this...don't hesitate. It was well worth it! Overall, I can't say enough good things about Tom and Black Tie, even after the wedding we are constantly referring people to Black Tie. If you are considering using them, go in and talk to Tom and your mind will be made up pretty easily! Thank you Tom and Black Tie for such an amazing formalwear experience and helping our boys look so sharp for our wedding day!!!

Planning a wedding is definetly stressful but Amanda and her team at black tie formalwear in Schaumburg truly made the experience an incredible joy! What truly got us to go with this place versus others was the customer service from the very minute we walked in (and we were there several times). Having worked customer service in the past it really makes a difference how genuine and kind this place was! When I received a thank you card from Amanda in the mail just thanking us for stopping in I was sold!! Even with a few minor hiccups (which EVERY wedding will have) black tie formalwear exceed our expectations and went above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied! Even after our wedding we stopped by and they were still as friendly as before!!! This means a lot because that truly shows they care about the people they are dealing with not just trying to make a sale!!! I recommend this place to everyone!!!!! We had a great time using Black Tie. Our tuxedo rentals went very smoothly (and we rented about 10 tuxes) We had people from around the country get and every scattered around Black Tie locations and we didn't have any problems. Gerry and Amanda were a great help throughout the process

I have been part of numerous weddings that have used Black Tie Formal Wear, and finally used them for my own. The service across the board has always been one thing, stellar. From the beginning of the planning process to the wedding day, my wedding party and I were greeted and treated with the upmost respect and care. We were treated like family and they were willing to work hard to ensure the look we had on our big day was spectacular. The staff and the inventory selection they have is second to none. They have what you want and if they do not, they will work with you to get it. I would and will recommend their services to anyone I know planning a wedding.

We selected Black Tie as our tuxedo vendor for our wedding in June. As a bride, the last thing I wanted to stress about were tuxes and the staff at Black Tie made sure that didn't happen. The team was super organized, friendly, and very accommodating. They made sure that each groomsmen, grandparent, and dad had the perfect fitting tux for the big day. They even helped my dad find a nice sport coat for the rehearsal dinner. It's also worth mentioning that we didn't run into any issues with picking up and returning the tuxedo's. I would highly recommend them to anyone who is getting married or in need of a tux/suit for the big day!

We have nothing but great things to say about Black Tie Formalwear! We had used them for our groomsmen tuxes this past June and the guys all looked amazing! My husband had 10 groomsmen with most of them being out of town which was not an issue at all. We had gone to the Chicago location, where we picked out which suits and shoes we wanted the guys to wear. It was an easy process and they had a whole collection of great looking tuxes in the store to choose from. The tuxes are also a great value given the very nice quality. We were given the information to give to the guys so they can get their measurements sent in via an online form. My husband and I also had a wedding manager login to view status on the guys getting their measurements in. The men were able to pick up their tuxes at a Black Tie Formalwear Location of their choice around the Chicago area which was very convenient and a definite plus. On our wedding day, all the guys looked really great and their tuxes fit perfectly! Thank you to Gerry, and the rest of the Black Tie Formalwear staff! We definitely recommend them for your Groomsmen Tux needs!

This place is the best, amidst all of the chaos that went around helping out with the wedding plans (as the best man), Black Tie Formalwear made the "looking good" part super easy. Once I arrived, I was measured and it was a smooth experience from there. The staff makes sure that you leave looking as good as you possibly can while also being completely comfortable in your formal wear. I'll be sure to visit them again when it's my own wedding!

Sarah at the West Dundee location is great! I've worked in the bridal business for years but always on the bridal side so when it came to menswear I was completely lost. She was so knowledgeable and helpful in picking out exactly what we wanted. Pricing was way better than any of the other places we visited prior to Black Tie. She helped make the picture in my head happen and everything turned out perfect! Would highly recommend her to anyone getting married!!

My invitations were beautiful! I have looked up many invitation places and I was really panicking to have to do it online. Matt from Black Tie Formal Wear was MORE than helpful. He was fast, efficient, and overall the best customer service that I have seen in a long time. The prices were very reasonable but I'm all about the service. It was easy to do and any questions you have he responds very quick. I ran out of invites and he was fast to send me more! Thank you Matt and Black Tie!

Great quality, and even better service! We purchased the suits for our wedding from Gerry and let me tell you, it was an such a great experience. We had groomsmen and family members all over the country and Black Tie Formal Wear made it very easy for us to gather all measurements and place one order for the suits. They had the exact color blue I was looking for. Not quite navy, but not royal blue. When the suits came in, Gerry even shipped them out to CA for the remote guests. The quality and feel of the suits were better than I could have hoped for and fit the varying body types great. Minimal alterations were needed to really give that custom suit look. We went for the higher end suits custom made in Italy and the quality speaks for itself. I would recommend Gerry and Black Tie Formal Wear to anyone who is looking. Fair price for a superior product.

I started off great with Black Tie. My consultant was Monique and she was very helpful in accommodating my large party and specific details. She ended up quitting and no one notified me. Danielle took over and she just ok. It was hard to get a hold of her at times and I was consistently given different consultants. It's very hard to explain to every single new consultant I talked to each time as I had 10 groomsmen, 6 junior groomsmen, 6 ring bearers, 2 parents, and 3 attendees that I needed fitted. You would think since I was giving them so much business that they would handle my account with care. On the day of my wedding two ring bearers were given black suites rather than whites suits. Although they gave my money back for only those two suits, they ruined my pictures. That's something I'll never get back. Also, their promotion was more than 6 groomsmen, the groom would get a free suit or can upgrade to a nice suit. We clearly had more than 6. My husband had plans to wear this on our rehearsal. They ordered it late stating they were waiting for confirmation for him and he had given it a while back. When he comes to pick up his suit, they said it was not tailored. I'm not sure why they didn't tell him that when he called. I remind you they never even told him the suit came in. Long story short, I would not go here if you have a large party or have specific taste. They cannot handle large parties and communication here is poor.

We recently visited the Schaumburg location and Mitch was great to work with! They not only had the perfect navy blue and black tux my fiance and I had been searching for, they went over and above to make sure we were completely happy with our decision. We would recommend Black Tie to anyone looking for the perfect tux to compliment their big day. Mitch was great and we can't thank him enough for his help!

Lisa G was amazing to work with! From the start communication was seamless and she understood my vision. The FOG was in mobile and she had someone come out to his residence to measure him for his tux. She kept on top of all of our 7 OOT groomsmen. She was very personable and understanding. She had my husband's suit ready to go for my husband's father's funeral shortly after our wedding. Not only will we use them again but we also use them for the wait staff at my work. They are always on time and are courteous and friendly. Could not have asked for a better place to work with for my wedding and work. I highly recommend the Joliet location for all your suit and tux needs!
