Trying dresses on here was a horrible experience. I began my wedding dress journey here, and as a plus size, older bride, I was beyond nervous about what I would feel and look like... in the most important dress of my life. This place made me feel terrible. The very first dress I tried on was so bad and I was treated so poorly that as I stood looking at myself, all I could think was that I wanted to cancel the wedding because there was no way I would ever look beautiful in front of people. I hated how the attendant, Bee, treated my mother, a professional wedding coordinator and designer, as if she was an afterthought and a nuisance, contradicting everything she said and dismissing her outright. We were shepherded past another, more visible fitting area to a hot, cramped, poorly lit back corner, and I can’t help but wonder if it was because as a “unattractive” bride, I was to be hidden from the other clientele. I was shown old, wrinkled, ugly dresses with dated fabric and unflattering designs. Bee barely touched me, never making an effort to fit the gowns to my body or find ways to make me feel seen. I was making my best effort to work with her, but she wouldn’t let my mother help me in or out of dresses, wouldn’t help me herself, and I was left to struggle to make them work alone in front of the mirror. She barely asked about the vision for the wedding, never asked my mother or best friend their names, was impolite and condescending the entire appointment. What hurt the most was how she never made an effort to see what I needed or make me feel beautiful in any way. I walked away in tears. This should never have happened to me. Contrasting this appointment with a second one we had the same day, in which I was treated with care, dignity, and attention to detail, I would never recommend any bride work with Blue Sky for any reason, especially plus size brides.
Do better.
