Boswell Hall went above and beyond to make my reception AMAZING! From the decor to the pleasant interactions with the manager, it was amazing! They contract with Chesapeake Grille and from everyone I have spoken with the food is one of the highlights of the venue.
I started planning my wedding 2 years ago. The venue was the first area thing I nailed down. The wedding coordinator at the Cardinal Room was Gary Murray. He was very attentive and helped me set up monthly payments. Everything was fine until October 2013. I went to make my online payment and the Quickbooks link no longer existed. I tried contacting Gary, but he did not respond. I finally was able to get in contact with someone at the Cardinal room whom informed me that Gary has left the company and took my money with him. I was then told that Gary was not part of their staff and rented the room out under his own company Cardinal Room,LLC. My husband and I went through months of legal torment of who's at fault and if we even still had our date. Boswell Hall would not honor our contract with Gary until we signed an agreement stating we do not hold them responsible for his actions, even if he was representing their company. It was around March of 2014 my wedding was in June 2014 so I had to sign. They honored Gary's contract and charged us for the balance. But would not give us our $500 deposit back that we paid to Gary. In May 2014 I met in person with the facility manager to hand in my final payment and discuss the layout and found out that the Kitchen was not included in the cost of our rental and would be an additional $500. I was furious. My entire menu was based on the fact we would be able to use the kitchen as a warming station and the refrigerator for the cake. I was told that we could use the kitchen to heat the food only. All food must be cooked prior to. It was a month before my wedding and I needed an additional $500! My husband and I paid for our wedding with help from family here and there and we did not have $500. That was already lost with the deposit. We were able to negotiate the price down. Needles to say the it all worked out in the end. The Cardinal Room is a large size room. great for parties 75 or larger. I would suggest putting a backdrop on splash of up-lighting on the stage or around the room. It really pulls everything together and masks the blank walls. The Day of person they had working was very helpful and accommodating. The Cardinal is expensive and I honestly would not have been able to afford the current rental cost if I went through them directly. The renter is responsible for clean up. Venue handles the clean up of the bathrooms, and will set up and breakdown of tables. They even have a cash bar vs open bar option.
My room was set up incorrectly, but not at the fault of the facility which I will review with the company that set the room up. I was happy my guests didn't have a clue of the mix up and enjoyed themselves. Hope this very detailed review helps one of you brides out there.
We loved our wedding reception at The Cardinal Room in Boswell Hall! We had 160+ people and there was plenty of room for everybody. The dance floor is huge and they offered a variety of lighting and draping packages to create your dream reception space. The staff was accommodating and very helpful. I made a mistake when I created the seating chart and they rearranged everybody and had them all seated and happy by the time we finished taking photos at the church. Originally, we signed up for the in-house catering. But, after a tasting, we changed our minds and went with an outside caterer that they helped us to arrange. I would definitely recommend doing a tasting before signing up for their in-house catering.
From the moment we contacted Cardinal Room, we realized that we were working with a professional company. Gary, the Director of Hospitality, was always available to answer even the simplest of questions! Our wedding reception turned out to be the event of the year! We have received nothing, but excellent reviews from our family, friends and vendors. We would definitely recommend any bride/groom or coordinator to utilize Cardinal Room for their event!
Plenty of space and a huge dance floor. Great people to work with and reasonable prices. We did go with an outside caterer, try the food to make sure it is what you are looking for.
The staff was great to work with. They took time to answer our many questions before the event. They did a great job setting up and meeting the guests' and bridal party's needs. The food was great, the lighting was beautiful, and the staff professionally tended to every detail. Many of the guests complimented Boswell Hall and the food. It was a wonderful experience, and I would recommend them. Special thanks to the hard-working staff.
When I first went to visit Boswell Hall as I arrived to the venue site I thought to myself "OMG this looks old; I wonder what the inside looks like". Let me say the outside does this venue no justice but it is gorgeous on the inside. The ballroom is very accomadating, the staff decorated the hall as I intended, the price for over 100 guest was very reasonable and last but not least the FOOD WAS AMAZING! If you decide to go to Boswell Hall ask for Jimmy or Mary. Jimmy is also the chief and he can cook his butt off. This was a great experience and if anything went wrong at my reception I didn't know about it. If I could do it all over again Boswell Hall would be my #1 choice.
Overall boswell hall was ok. One of the things that attracted me to this venue was their all inclusive price. The food was ok, just typical wedding food.
I was a vey low budget bride, and looked ALL over for a place to have my wedding reception. I found Boswell Hall, and went in for a consultation and booked immediately. They take care of the food (which was awesome - we did buffet style), they took care of the set-up (just took my things to them a couple days before - they did it perfectly), their wait and bar staff were very friendly, and overall it was awesome! I also did the ceremony there, they had an alter they rolled out and it was so much fun all together.
The event coordinator Ray was amazing he did everything we could have wanted for us. The hall is beautiful they set everything up wonderfully. The food was so good and for the price we were really amazed. You wouldn't expect Boswell Hall to be such a wonderful place for a wedding reception but if I had unlimited funds I still would have had it there!
