About this vendor
Burroughs Home & Garden is an award-winning, historic wedding venue located in Fort Myers, FL. This elegant Georgian Revival-style mansion is nestled along the Caloosahatchee River in the city’s storied River District. The expansive gardens boast a plethora of mature stately oaks, a reflecting pool, vibrant flower beds, and a tranquil grotto. Soon-to-be-newlyweds are invited to host their ceremonies anywhere on the property that speaks to their tastes and preferences. The mansion is also available for exchanges of vows, where guests will be impressed by hardwood floors, antique furnishings, Georgian-style architecture, and a sweeping staircase. Afterward, receptions can be held in the open-air Pavilion for up to 200 guests. This beautiful white structure features large columns, air-conditioning, a serene ambiance, and spectacular views of the river. Here, couples and their guests can dine and dance late into the evening and enjoy a dreamy wedding atmosphere.

The Burroughs Home & Gardens was the perfect venue for our intimate wedding reception. The staff, particularly Melissa, communicated effectively from the tour of the venue, to contract signing, details leading up to the big day, and carrying out our plan the day of. Melissa went above and beyond to answer all of our questions. Thanks to the Burroughs Home, our reception was stress free and enjoyable for all. I highly recommend this venue for all of your wedding and event needs.
20/10! Amazing service. The staff was super friendly and very attentive. Everyone kept telling us to make sure to take the day in and make sure to eat the food and eat the cake! Sometimes it gets so busy you won’t end up eating but these people made sure we ate! I felt like a queen with all the attention. We had a buffet style but at least for us 2 it didn’t feel like that! Everything was brought to us, our food, our drinks, our cake, everything! Even after the wedding they were so kind and helpful! Just hire this company and avoid yourselfs any headaches! You won’t regret it! They were AMAZING!!!!
The boroughs home and garden is beautiful right on the water , and the outside pavilion with screens that go up and down as needed, ceiling fans , and historical house was wonderful
Stunning venue! We hosted our wedding here in April 2022, and our guests were constantly complimenting us on our venue selection due to being on the water and several options for ceremony site. We ultimately chose The Burroughs Home with the covered pavilion as our reception site which allowed a break for our guests from the Florida sun, with air movement while still taking in the beautiful views!
They exceeded my expectations with customer service, they went the extra mile and took care of every detail. The place was a dream, 100% recommended.
What a beautiful venue! I was willing to look past all of the other drama because this venue is to die for - the value is ridiculously great - and they were extremely flexible for a historic home.
We did go through a few staff changes and some hiccups with them "breaking up" with their caterer (which was previously the ONLY caterer you could hire) - but the wedding was beautiful, perfect and all around amazing. If this venue can figure out it's management issues, it could easily be a 5 star experience!
They called one month before the wedding n said to change already booked and paid for caterer they had previously approved. They don't return phone calls or emails and.dont care about this added stress or expense n give no explainatiom. Said if we don't change we can go elsewhere??? Everything is aready booked for over 100 guests, hotels, airfare, dj,etc. Unbelievable
The venue is absolutely stunning. We went through a few staff changes throughout the planning process associated with the venue itself, however, Magen, the catering coordinator, handled everything and was so easy to work with. If there were any issues, I didn't know about them! I couldn't be more pleased with how our wedding turned out.
I have spent the last three days on the toilet after the wedding reception here. I started throwing up several hours after leaving, and have had to take off work due to the necessity of being near my toilet. I wish that this was made up, but there have been at least three other guests who have also been sick after the reception, including another bridesmaid. Thankfully the bride and groom were not ill.
This venue is absolutely beautiful, but the staff is rude, disorganized, and unhelpful. To begin, the coordinators gave the bride trouble from the beginning about arrival times. They actually told the bride she could arrive at one time, and then told her that in order to arrive then she would have to pay an extra $50 an hour due to babysitting fees for the coordinator's kids. So unprofessional to promise one thing and then take it back, and also to base your fees on your personal babysitter. What babysitter even charges that much per hour?
Then, we were told we could not keep any personal items in the house after the cocktail hour. I understand that this must have been in the contract, but it is so unusual that the bride and bridal party is not given a safe space to keep their belongings during the wedding. The coordinator told us that they were "just being nice" by allowing us to keep some items in the office. They said that no one wants to clean up after drinking at a wedding, so they have had problems with people leaving their items inside. We explained that no one was leaving without their keys, phones, and purses, and we all had to stay for clean up anyways, but they still gave us a hard time. The other coordinator was so rude and harsh with the bride that she made her cry on her wedding day. We told her that she had upset her and she never even approached the bride to remedy the situation. They were more concerned that we were discussing our disappointment with them than they were about helping the bride.
The DJ was allowed to set up all of his equipment without the coordinators ever mentioning that he was in the backup ceremony spot AND that the area he chose sometimes gets wet from the wind. So he had to move everything!!
Also, the power went off 3 times during the reception, shutting down the music, and they still insisted on flicking the lights back on at exactly end time during the DJ's last song. The coordinators were not even present during the reception, and we had to go find them thirty minutes after ceremony start time to ask them to help us head out to the ceremony. The weather was bad, and they also didn't even ask the bride if she wanted to move the ceremony indoors. Then, they complained to us about moving the chairs (60 chairs) inside at her request. For the money you pay, the setup and cleanup should at least be included too. We forgot to identify someone to light the candles, and even this would have been too much to ask. The bride still had a beautiful wedding, but we felt like we were putting out fires all day and walking on tiptoes dealing with the staff. The coordinators also told us we could not store our wedding cake (just sized for bride and groom) anywhere since we had not discussed it with them prior to the event. Overall they were just extremely unaccommodating and did little to help the bride have the best day possible. The catering company was extremely helpful, especially Liz. They found us a spot to put our cake in two seconds. Stay away until new staff is hired.....
Our wedding was absolutely beautiful. Christine was wonderful, she made sure everything went smoothly. The grounds were gorgeous. Thanks Christine for all your help.
I just knew that my wedding would be beautiful if I had my wedding at the Burroughs Home. On the day of my wedding it EXCEEDED my expecttions. During the entire process Christine was very helpful. She gave us great advice on different ideas she had. Everything was perfect. Christine even got on her hands and knees and helped bustle my dress! She was amazing :) I didn't want the night to end. The ceremony was right on one of their sites they had by the water. It was breath taking. The reception was definately a blast. A night to remember.
When we started this wedding planning process we had a few venues in mind. We stopped at The Burroughs Home first and we didnt look any further! After meeting with Christine and her staff and viewing this unbelievably beautiful home we were stunned and fell in love! The detail and care that Christine takes in organizing your wedding and bringing it to life with this beautiful home are unmatched! The home is gorgeous and has the most beautiful, photogenic scenery i have ever seen. We were blown away by every elegant detail this home provides. Christine is a professional, she knows what she is doing and guides you through every little detail with ease. The home is simply breathtaking and we absolutely love being a Burroughs bride and groom. Thank you Christine and staff, you made our dream come true!!
The BH&G is an amazingly beautiful venue for weddings. I am so happy I chose it for my special day! I recommend NOT using this venue during the holiday season (Thanksgiving through second week in January) since it is part of the Holiday House series and so it will be decorated in a particular holiday theme. Your decorations may be allowed in certain areas of the home, but you will not be able to remove the vast majority of their decorations (which could range from Sesame Street characters to Victorian dolls). Also, please be aware of nondisclosure issues (such as the curator gets an additional percentage from the vendors you bring, which is on top of their own fees) year-round.
The venue is beautiful and I recommend it for 10 months out of the year, but the hassles, heartbreak, and headaches of having to tiptoe around their committees, powerplays, and stonewalling make it a risky choice for holiday season weddings.
I could not have asked for a more beautiful location for the best day of my life! My husband and I were searching for a venue and when we arrived at the Burroughs home we instantly knew this was the place! Christine is absolutely phenomenal and the actual wedding day went so smoothly. All of my guests were stunned with the grounds and what a beautiful place it was. They also provide a list of preferred vendors for dj, photographers, officiants etc. that they have worked with and we were pleased with all of them as well. Thank you Christine & staff for giving my husband and I the most special, beautiful, stress free day. We love you guys so much!!!
The Burroughs Home is so great! In FL everyone does beach weddings but this is so much better. It is a stunning house with GRASSY (no sand) backyard with a beautiful water front view and shady trees. The twinkling lights from the bridges (Fowler Street) bounce off the water after dark. Plus the big oaks with moss are lit up and it creates such an amazing ambiance for your reception. The historical aspect makes this place so perfect. The interior of the house creates unique photo back drops! You won't be disappointed with this venue. The staff are helpful and keep everything going.
From the day I stepped foot on the grounds of The Burroughs Home I've had a small obsession with the place! It's truly magical! The home is stunning, the view from street takes your breath away...strolling up the walkway onto the wrap around porch you feel like to have stepped back in time to a place where those that visited took the time to rock the day away on the white rocking chairs placed on the porch. From the rich wood on the inside, and beautiful staircase it's stunning! If the walls could talk they would be filled with the joy, laughter and stories of the days they helped brides dreams come true with it's pure existence. The grounds are spectacular and the view of the water is so peaceful. This is the most wonderful venue in Florida to enjoy one of the most special days in your life. The staff was amazing, our day was perfect and it was the wedding location of my dreams. I still get goosebumps when I drive by or stop by for a visit! :-) I've had 3 friends book their wedding at the Burroughs Home that have had the same experience! I can't imagine why you would look any further!
My husband and I married in November of 2012 at the beautiful Burroughs Home. We could not have asked for a better experience. The Burroughs Home staff was amazing. As a bride, you often worry that something will be forgotten or turn out less than expected. Not with these amazing people. They were very professional yet personable, and organized. They work with an assortment of preferred vendors which helps take the "guess" work out of quality. As a bride, that alone helped relieve stress from the planning. The property is absolutely exquisite for an evening wedding. White lights twinkling from palm trees and oak trees mixed with natures beautiful sunset was our scenery. This historic home also provides an amazing background for unforgettable photos. The Burroughs Home was my real life fairytale wedding. I highly recommend this venue.
I have to say that I planned every detail of my wedding, and was meticulous with all things, but it didnt hold a candle to the work of the Burrough's Home staff.
The staff was extremely personable, available, and accommodating. The home is beautiful, and I am so very happy that I had my wedding there.
Outside of the staff being professional, courteous and wonderful, the home was beautiful, AND the photo opts were priceless, there are so many opportunities for BEAUTIFUL shots inside and outside the home. I would definitely recommend visiting the home and falling in love with it like I did.
This was a great place to have a reception. We had our mass at the church and reception from 530-11. Everyone there was very helpful and organized. The event went smooth and nothing went wrong. Just wish we could play music after 11 it went too quick
BEAUTIFUL location.
The House is Beautiful. I couldn't ask for a better location. The onsite coordinator is a little difficult to work with though.
