- Paul SimmonsTrumpet, Vocals, arranging, coordinationPaul plays trumpet and flugelhorn, sings and writes band arrangements for Bad Cat. He is a veteran of the music scene from coast to coast: from Philadelphia to Manhattan to Las Vegas to Sacramento. Paul currently plays with Bad Cat, the Camellia and Auburn Symphony orchestras, Hipnosis and the Curvd Aire Brass Quintet. He also performs with local musical theater companies. He studied trumpet under David Blackinton, Craig Morris, Tony Crapis and Gary Dilworth, and French Horn under Richard Solis. Paul has played with numerous other ensembles across the country including various symphony orchestras, DAIMON, East Coast Connection, the Ken Doxie Band and many others. He has backed up the Shirelles, blues great Clarence Spady and others. Unsurprisingly, Paul enjoys playing music of all kinds, in many capacities. Outside of music, Paul has run 13 marathons and a few ultramarathons and has worked extensively in the nonprofit sector and the mental health peer support field.
- David HarnishGuitarDavid Harnish plays guitar with Bad Cat and worked in rock, blues, jazz, country, reggae, fusion, Indian, Latin, and Tejano bands. Jimi Hendrix, Duane Allman, and John MacLaughlin are guitar influences and he’s recorded with five different labels. He is Professor Emeritus of Music at University of San Diego, and former dean and professor at Bowling Green State University. He directed Indonesian gamelan ensembles for decades, performed traditional music in many countries, wrote books and articles in Ethnomusicology, and was consultant to the BBC, National Geographic, MTV-Fulbright Awards, Smithsonian Institute, and the Kyoto Prize Symposia.
- Ted KidwellTromboneTed Kidwell graduated from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with a degree in trombone performance. For 16 years, he performed as a freelance musician in the San Francisco Bay Area with symphony orchestras, opera companies and theatrical shows. Ted managed and promoted the Bel Canto Brass, which toured for several years with Columbia Artists Community Concerts. He studied piano tuning with Greg Granoff, piano technician with Humboldt State University. He has also trained extensively at the Steinway factory in Astoria, New York. He developed a business as kitchen designer and cabinetmaker. In 1996, he bought an abandoned house in Fort Bragg and renovated it, operating it as the Weller House Inn for 11 years. His varied career has included a radio show with his daughter in which they read children's books. In 2007 he moved to Sacramento to take the position of piano technician at California State University, Sacramento. He continues to perform in a variety of music groups. He lives with his wife and 14-year-old son.
- Vince BunioLead Guitar, Lead SingerVince grew up in the Bay area where he played with many of the Bay area greats starting at a young age. The guys from Tower of Power, Huey Lewis and scores of others. Vince co-founded the Bad Cat band
- Phil EmondDrumsPhil grew up on the east coast and played his first performance on drums at age 7. After seeing Ringo Starr on the Ed Sullivan show, Phil was hooked playing in a rock cover band in junior high school performing live and on the radio. During high school he was a member of two different DCI drum and Bugle Corps travelling throughout the Northeast for competitions playing both drums and horns. Phil studied keyboards and music theory for a year then joined the US Air Force. Phil has had an opportunity to play in many bands covering everything from country to rock. He has played in several working bands in the greater Sacramento area since moving here in 1989. Phil is thrilled to be with the Bad Cat band playing with a terrific horn section
