We were lucky enough to have dark roux shoot our engagement photos and our wedding. The pictures are more beautiful than I could've ever dreamed. Our wedding was on a very sunny day, and followed later in the evening by a second line in the French Quarter at dusk. The photos truly capture the fun that everyone was having. The candids are stunning and I can't stop going through these photos again and again. Jamie and Heather were incredibly patient with us and our family as we muscled our way through wedding planning, and we cannot believe how perfectly they captured the events, and our family and friends! We are looking forward to our wedding book consultation with them, they are truly incredible at what they do.

We booked them for engagement photos and then for our wedding, the photos are incredible! They were also so great to work with. We got our album and it looks perfect! We are so happy/grateful we were able to book them and plan to do it again in the future!

Jamie was amazing!!! We just got married and have only seen one photo so far, but we already know Dark Roux was the right choice. Both in the lead up to the wedding and on the actual day, Jamie was so flexible, easy going and calm. We have a big family, and he handled the group photos very calmly and got everything done very quickly. Jamie made us feel very comfortable during the pictures, and immediately put us at ease. We had never met in person before the day of the wedding, but we felt so comfortable with him. Perfection!! All the stars! Heather and Katie were the dream team. Hurricane Nate threatened New Orleans on our wedding weekend. With a curfew and citywide panic, we decided to move up our festivities up a full 3 hours. They were flexible throughout it all while keeping effortlessly calm and fun demeanors. Heather was truly incredible to work with - in our eyes the absolute best photographer out there. From day one she made my partner and I feel so comfortable. She took the time to get to know us before the big day (even from long distance) and made sure that she understood our personalities, family dynamics, etc. Even after all the amazing reviews we had read about Heather, nothing does it justice until you are working with her. Do yourself a favor and hire Heather and Jamie RIGHT NOW! They are not only fantastic and talented photographers, they are awesome people too. Our photos look like works of art and I am so happy with the variety and amazing shots they got. Their photos felt so easy and natural and artistic that they really captured the essence of my husband and I and how we envisioned our wedding and photos to be. They were really easy to work with, really relaxed (and funny) while still being total pros. Everyone has been RAVING about our photos since we got them and we could not be happier with the memories they captured for us!

There are a lot of wedding photographers out there who do a great job. You will get all your standard shots and they will be nice. Dark Roux does something a little different...The reason I fell in love with Dark Roux is because every wedding they shoot is different. I knew I wouldn't be getting a cookie cutter wedding album, instead I would get photos that really captured the essence of MY wedding with all our family and friends. What made me fall head over heels in love with Dark Roux is that fact that Heather and Jamie are the most down to earth wonderful people ever! Jamie and Heather were absolutely amazing! They took care of our engagements, bridals, and of course the ceremony and reception. Heather even helped me with a special extra shoot for my husband's wedding gift. There was never a dull moment with these two! I don't even know where to start. Dark Roux was recommended to us by the Maison Perrier B and B in New Orleans where my husband and I decided to host a very very intimate wedding ceremony - just our immediately families which totals about 9 people including a 2 year old cutie niece. We opted for low key, simple, but hopefully lovely and with New Orleans/our home as host, we know we couldn't go wrong. Dark Roux captured ALL of this and more. From the first communication with them (where they ask you what your favorite band is: BINGO right there!) - they immediately responded to our delight that they TOTALLY GOT right away what we were trying to organize and the feel that we wanted - and offered us the package that BEST suited our needs and it really really did. I think I looked at their blog nearly every week - the photos are just stunning. Their photos BOOM with vibrancy and color - but are COMPLETELY natural too, picking up touching and organic details of people, locales, everything. In our "low key" approach, we honestly didn't really know what we were doing throughout the day, BUT Heather and her assistant, Hilary, not only took the most amazing photos - but they helped us remain comfortable, remain ourselves, have lots of laughs, and even get the damn bustle on my dress to fasten! They so non-imposingly led us through the afternoon and totally grooved with our random requests ("Can you take a picture of the shrimp drawn on The Columns welcome chalkboard, please?" "Can you wait around to take a photo of us all with cocktails in hand?"). We just got our full spread of photos and as we wanted, everyone in our families is well represented and looking stunning. New Orleans looks great - the porch scenes, the beautiful calm post-storm outside light, the street scenes, and even a moving streetcar behind us! So fabulous. You will have the best wedding photos if you stick with Dark Roux.

I was just married in New Orleans a week ago and had a wonderful experience working with Heather and her assistant, Samantha. I'm sure I will do another post when I get the actual photographs but I just wanted to do a post based on how incredible they both were. My husband (plus our entire wedding party) felt so comfortable with both of these girls and thought they were both so easy to work with and so much fun. I met Jamie and Heather about three months ago and knew we had made the right decision choosing them to photograph our wedding. They are a fun loving couple with a real passion for what they do. Being an OOT bride everything I chose was based on reviews I read on The Knot and WeddingWire so I had to give a review for Dark Roux in case anyone was unsure whether to go with Dark Roux or not. So do it. :-)

Dark Roux took our engagement and wedding pictures. My, now husband, met Jamie and Heather at a wedding he was Best Man in and fell in love with them immediately. He came running to me at the reception and the first thing he said to me was--"Baby I found our photographer!" Before we took engagement pictures, I was kind of nervous, I have never really been photographed before and wasn't sure what to expect--as soon as I said hello, I was comfortable, and it definitely shows in our pictures, which are each a piece of artwork, by the way, and are hanging all over our apartment. At the wedding, they were just as fabulous, I never once felt uncomfortable, they never asked me to do anything again so they can get a shot, it was as if they weren't even there, which is nice because all of your pictures come off natural and real--not posed at all. Another absolutely wonderful thing about Dark Roux, is that they don't eat up your time at your wedding taking posed pictures- you take them, but it takes them no time to get them done, which is great because you aren't eating up your reception time away from your guests and the dance floor. I highly, HIGHLY recommend Dark Roux to everyone--seriously each picture is truly a beautiful piece of art--after receiving all of our pictures, I not only enjoyed re-living our day picture by picture, but also commented at how pretty we looked and our guests looked the day of our wedding. Jamie and Heather are so laid back, down to earth, and fun--you don't feel like you have to do anything else, but just be you and have fun. Which at the end of the day, is what it is all about. I am so glad we went with Dark Roux, because my flowers are dead, my dress is packed away, the tux is returned, and when that one year cake is eaten--all we will have left of our wedding are our memories and our beautiful pictures.

Where do I begin with my praise and gratitude for Dark Roux? From the first time I contacted them to the day of my wedding Heather and Jamie were the dream team to work with. I never thought I'd get married so when I got engaged and decided to get married a month later, I didn't think anything would be possible. To my happy surprise Heather and Jamie were not only available but also had great ideas for how they wanted to shoot my "impromptu" wedding at Preservation Hall in NOLA. From our first call to the day we finally met, they had a calming, "anything is possible" attitude. Knowing I didn't want anything too traditional, they captured amazing, "real" moments that felt true and not too posed. The resulting shots had a great editorial feel and felt very genuine. Their creative eye and sense of lighting truly is remarkable. Everyone who has seen the images has commented on how Heather and Jamie were able to capture my husband and my personalities and really bring to life the joy we felt on that day. Dark Roux knows how to tell a great story through their lens.

If you spend any time at all looking at Dark Roux's blog, you can clearly see how talented Jamie & Heather are. This review is not about their photos, it is a given that your photos will turn out fantastic. This review is about the added experience that Jamie & Heather gave us during our wedding week. Our wedding package included a "2 hour" engagement/pre-wedding session. I say "2 hour" because not once did Jamie ever look at his watch. I never felt like he was in a rush to get home. He was so focused on giving us an experience that he knew we wanted, time wasn't even in issue. My husband and I were initially nervous considering we had never taken professional photos before, but Jamie quickly put us at ease. He bought us a drink to loosen us up and just spent time getting to know us to have a better idea of what kind of photos we were looking for. From there, we went all around the French Quarter taking what seemed like random photos to us, but what turned out to be masterpieces that we now have hanging in our home. We spent the day laughing and smiling (which made for seem really natural looking photos) and making a beautiful memory. To this day, my husband and I still agree that one of the best experiences during our entire wedding week (which was packed with fun activities because it was a destination wedding), was our pre-wedding photo session. By the time the wedding rolled around, we no longer felt like Jamie & Heather were just vendors at our wedding, they had practically become guests. I highly recommend Dark Roux Photography if you are looking for more than just great photos.

We have received so many compliments about our engagement and wedding photographs, and about the two (Jamie and Heather from Dark Roux) who took them! We adore Jamie and Heather. They made us feel so comfortable and captured such unique shots of us and our guests. Everything felt natural. They also helped us wrangle the groom and groomsmen so that we didn't see each other until my walk down the isle, and later, pictures of our second line (they ran ahead of us on a cold and windy night to get the shots, and they turned wonderfully!). Dark Roux made things to easy for us--we felt really comfortable with them and confident their in work, so really all we had to do was show up and smile.

My husband and I hired Dark Roux for our wedding this past April 2013. Actually they not only did our wedding pictures, but our engagement, first look, and a bridal boudoir session for me. We first meet Jamie and Heather, Dark Roux, in May of 2012 a couple of weeks after our engagement. I have to say that after meeting with them just one time we knew right away that there was no other choice but them for our photographers. We were really looking for not the stereotypical, "Pose here...look here pictures". We wanted something very original and unique. Something that when other people looked at our pictures their reaction would be, "Wow, I've never seen pictures like that". Pictures that really captured our emotions on the happiest day of our lives. And believe me they didn't let us down. Our pictures came out BEAUTIFULLY.... I can't stop bragging about them to everyone and anyone that asks. Not only are they extremely talented, but they are reliable, professionally, fun to hung out with, and must have the patience of saints b/c they put up with all my thousands of emails and questions I asked them. They are truly one of a kind and the best decision I made in all of my wedding planning.

Jamie and Heather were amazing. As someone who is slightly uncomfortable in front of the camera with a wife who doesn't want to sit still long enough to take them at all, I call them photo ninjas in the best of ways. They were able to capture extremely emotional and private moments in the the most unobtrusive way possible. On top of the fact that they both made us so comfortable that we didn't mind them getting up close on the dance floor for action shots. They were both so incredibly professional and so much fun to work with. I highly suggest them to anyone looking for the perfect wedding photographers.

I first met Jamie and Heather when they were contracted to be the photographers at my cousin's wedding in 2011. So, I have actually experienced them as professional photographers before I began planning my own. I just fell in love with them and their work after that and knew one day they would take pictures of my wedding! Their style is completely unique and refreshing, with some really fun candid pictures, which is exactly the style I wanted. They are not only amazing photographers, but they are really amazing people! They often hold workshops at their own home for budding photographers, and they give back to the community as well! This husband and wife duo are simply AMAZING! From the moment my husband and I met them, they were great! We felt like we had known them for years. They respond to emails and/or phone calls within 24 hours, and they are super friendly. They are open to any ideas you have in regards to your engagement and bridal shots. We wanted something out of the ordinary, and they were excited to do it. They are definitely a great team. And the quality of their photos, AMAZING! I've never seen such great photos. They captured all of the best moments of our wedding day, and even blended in with the party! It was a great day. I love them, and would highly recommend them to anyone!

jami and heather were an absolute joy to work with! they were very professional and attentive, they were everywhere and at the same time never in your face or in the way. they captured every moment so beautifully and their candid shots really captured the spirit of my friends and family. you can tell these two are completely in love and i think that really translates into the beautiful work they do... we really had so much fun working with them!!! :)

Let me just say I could not have asked for a more perfect fit for my husband and I on our wedding day. Heather and Jamie are a great couple and I enjoyed spending the day getting ready with them (remember, your photographers are with you all day!). Our two year old daughter was our flower girl and I loved that, as parents, they were really able to work with her. At the same time they are also a really cool couple that is way into music (a major plus for my husband) and take AMAZING photos. Well well well worth the price.

Dark Roux is a Husband and Wife photography team that, to put it as simply as possible, is amazing! Amazing, amazing, and extra amazing! We honestly can not praise Dark Roux enough. Their portfolio, and photography work, is perfection. Their personalities are amazing. They take their time to really get to know you (in this case for our wedding), and are very personable. When we first met they took the time to chat with us in person, and even offered skype since we were an out of town couple! They treated us to a lovely snack, went over all the details and information they had to offer, and brought plenty of examples to show off not only their work but our final product. Just making us more and more comfortable in our choice. They find simple tricks to make you smile, and bring out the best in you for the camera. Making you extremely comfortable. Even the simple "poses" they put us in for our engagement photos didn't feel "posed" at all, nor look it in the end. It shows not only their truly unbelievable talent, but our comfort and personalities in the final pictures. During our wedding, aside from a few poses/set-ups we knew we'd have to be in, they were invisible. Blending into the crowd and only appearing during the minor flash of the camera. Making it extremely easy for us, and our guest, to go about our evening of visiting, eating, dancing, and just enjoying "our" night. Everything about Dark Roux was perfect, and we couldn't have asked for better photographers for our time. I don't care what you're planning, please, seriously... take the time to check them out on FB or via their website and I bet you'll be contacting them for a face to face to book them! We can't WAIT for the final product and after a 'sneak peak' we're already amazed at their talent!!

One of my biggest worries for our wedding was finding the perfect photographers. We wanted someone that was easy going and would catch the love and fun of our special day. After doing our research, we scheduled 3 appointments with different photographers with styles that we liked. My husband and I knew after meeting Heather and Jaime for the consultation, that they were the photographers for us. They are so down to earth and genuine. But what made our decision super easy was how comfortable they made us feel, like we were old friends. My husband and I are pretty camera shy so it was very important that our photographers made us feel comfortable. Everything went great with them from our engagement pictures with our doggie Anna to our send off. We absolutely love them and our pictures too!! I would highly recommend them to any of my friends that were planning a wedding.

I'm from New Orleans but wasn't living there while planning my wedding so it was a little tricky trying to get everything figured out. When I found Dark Roux they suggested we have a skype meeting. They were so funny and friendly when we talked that it made the decision super easy. They were able to accommodate our crazy schedule for some engagement photos and the day of the wedding, they were a calming presence while taking the getting ready photos and group photos and not to mention, super funny. During the reception, they were everywhere! Even capturing some crazy video! They were accommodating and helped put me at ease throughout the day. The photos are amazing! All of our guests, fellow photographers included, were really impressed with them and the photos.

I don't know where to start with this amazing company. From the day I contacted them to capture our memories, until the day I received my discs and books after the wedding, this couple treated me like a personal friend. There was NEVER an email, phone call, or even text message that wasnt responded to. There was NEVER hesitation for this couple, with one small child and Heather being pregnant, to drive to another state to take our engagement pics, bridals, and the whole day of our wedding in the rain!! The photography presented by this couple speaks for itself. They capture the love, the emotions, and every little detail that comes along with this day. Jamie and Heather are super laid back, and it takes little to no effort for them to relax you and make you feel comfortable in front of the camera. When my husband and I were shopping photographers, we came across a few talented photographers; however, their personality did not match their work. We heard things like, "I've been taking pictures for 10 years. I know exactly how you should pose and what you should do." For us, that was a turn off. We really wanted someone who would just capture our day and what it meant for us. We didn't want to spend our wedding like we were in a constant photo shoot. The first time we met Jamie and Heather, we knew we had found our photographer. Their pictures were amazing and their personalities were even better. Jamie & Heather are amazing photographers! They truly worked with us and captured our personality and the essence of our wedding. After the wedding, we received our proofs and photos within the month. They are great to work with and are so creative and different. We did not want the traditional wedding pics (although they can do that very well) we wanted an edgy different perspective and we got it! Highly recommend them.

Heather and Jamie of Dark Roux were so extremely awesome, it made me the happiest bride in NOLA! They had questionnaires for me to fill out so they would be well prepared about what exactly we wanted in our wedding photos. They were flexible, attentive, and an all around fun couple! Not to mention, the reasonable pricing and extremely quick turn around on being able to purchase and view the complete portfolio of the pictures from all the events (rehearsal dinner, ceremony and reception). We hope to work with them again soon.

Heather and Jamie, of Dark Roux, did such a great job photographing my wedding! They are professional, yet so flexible, and they take amazing photographs. Best of all, they made sure that their work didn't interfere with the flow of the day. They were willing to work with whatever time frames we gave them, and they took hundreds of photos without ever "getting in the way" of festivities. My guests all complimented my photos and many even said how much they enjoyed watching Heather and Jamie work throughout the wedding. They are a wonderful choice for wedding photography! I would highly recommend them!

I can't tell you how happy we are to have chosen Dark Roux as our wedding photographer. Extremely professional, amazingly talented, and A LOT of fun! The photographs captured my daughters wedding perfectly. I just wish we lived in New Orleans so that they could take more pics of our grandchildren. It's hard to put into words how blessed we were to have Dark Roux for our wedding. Picking our photographers was overwhelming at first, especially since we had two great companies to choose from that were available on our wedding day. I had a great feeling about Dark Roux after our initial conversations, and I'm so glad we went with them! There is soooo much love and emotion and beauty and laughter and tears of joy from our wedding day coming through our photos. I think it's because Jamie and Heather capture what they have themselves. If you have love, you have an eye for love, if you have joy or laughter, you have a eye for joy and laughter. They have all those things as a couple, so they know how to spot it in their brides and grooms. It's what made them more special than the other photographers and why we ended up going with them. Sorry that I couldn't offer more comments about their skills or customer service, etc lol. I was trying to keep this short but I can't say enough about those things too! I promise you will be hard pressed to find better, more professional, more in-love photographers than Dark Roux!!!

Jamie and Heather of Dark Roux are simply the best!! Besides being super fun to hang out with... they are extremely professional and have an artistic flair that we love! From the very moment we met them for our engagement photo session - we have had a fun, relaxed time with them that was reflected in all of the photos. They captured our true selves and we never felt posed. As a testament to their dedication/professionalism, we had a last minute change of plans on the wedding day and Heather and Jamie were sooo accommodating! They didn't even flinch at my request for a change of venue and were able to go with the flow right along with our bridal party. My wedding day is over, but I am left with the MOST beautiful pictures that document the day, our guests, the fun and the love that was shared that day. My husband and I have been following Jamie and Heather's work for awhile. So, we knew immediately when we started planning that Dark Roux was the right choice for our special day. Between the two of them, we got so many views and perspectives during the entire timeline. The entire album is like a story that we get to relive every time we look at them. Somehow, in all of their shots everything in the background seems to be impeccably placed to create the perfect picture. We love our pictures, we love Dark Roux and we love Jamie and Heather. They have given us such a blessing with all of the beautiful pictures we received.

I am elated with my wedding photos and my experience with Dark Roux. Jamie and Heather are extraordinarily, talented photographers and wonderful people to work with. My photos were absolutely amazing; People even started crying when they saw them. And the best part? We barely noticed they were there. Jamie and Heather were able to capture even our most intimate moments with a ninja like stealth that amazed all who saw the photos. They are completely unobtrusive, while getting every shot you want and even those you don’t even know you want. Jamie and Heather are wonderful in working with family dynamics and do so with the utmost discretion. On top of everything, they work super-fast. I had my engagement photos in a week and my wedding photos in about two. They are wonderful about returning emails, phone calls, etc. in a very timely manner. Overall, Jamie and Heather are the best photographers you can hire, and you certainly won’t be disappointed.

From the initial contact, both Jamie and Heather were incredibly sweet and professional. They made sure to stay in touch with you throughout the entire process leading up to the big day and when the day came...they were spot on!! SUPER fun to work with. Everyone that attended my wedding mentioned how amazing they were. Shooting from every angle. Capturing every moment not with just myself and my husband, but with all the guests. They made us seem like they were old friends of ours and we could just be outselves. I absolutely love them and don't get me started on their work. OMG!! The pictures were just AH-MAZE-ING!!! Yes I spelled it wrong. That's how great they were. Proper grammar goes completely out the window when describing the beautiful pictures. If there is anyone around me when I'm near a computer, I'm showing them the pictures. I will forever charish these pictures and the friendships I feel I've gained by working with Jamie and Heather.
