Hello there; Thank you for stopping by! My government name is Jessica DeWitt, I go by Jess, but if you say "yes" I'll most likely think that you are saying my name & it's this whole thing, happens all the time to me in the grocery stores, super awkward... Anyway, I am the owner & lead creative here at DeWitt Planning! Okay, now that we got the formal stuff out of the way, (thank goodness!) let's get down to the fun stuff. I am a fun, old soul with a soft spot for love and adventure.
I don't like to call myself a wedding planner, but rather an experience planner. My couples dig doing rad things for the sake of love, and I am so hype to be able to be able to join them in the process. Whether it is an elopement, micro-wedding, or a styled photoshoot, I am here to help you make it epic! Want to take the leap into marriage by literally jumping out of a plane? I'll be right here holding the door open in my goggles & parachute.
Where do we dewitt? Is everywhere but the moon (for now) a good answer? We rest our heads in Salt Lake City, Utah, but we are quite often on the road all around the country!
Some of our recent destinations:
Costa Rica - Maui, Hawaii - Anchorage, Alaska - Phoenix, arizona - los angeles, California - Tucson, Arizona - moab, utah - bryce canyon, utah - Ogden, Utah - Groton, CT - Long Beach Island, NJ - Easton, CT - Portland, Maine - Stowe, Vermont - White Mountains, New Hampshire - Block Island, Rhode Island - Cape Cod, Massachusetts - Portland, Maine
When I am not planning...
I find myself surrounded by family, both fur & human. I enjoy spending time in nature, exploring antique shops, and creating art in my spare time. I love painting landscapes, woodworking, or anything that ends with my hands covered in paint. I am also working on trying to learn to speak Italian.
What's my experience?
I have worked at many of the leaders in hospitality in the United States including; Ocean House in Rhode Island, Saybrook Point Inn, Water's Edge Resort & Spa, and Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. Through working at these properties, along with my bachelors degree in event management from Johnson & Wales University, one thing was missing for me... creativity! I was lacking an outlet for me to express all of these crazy ideas I had, but could not express. In opening DeWitt Planning, I wanted to continually challenge myself, overcome obstacles, and do things that I never even imagined could be possible. Every event, small or large, $1,000 or $100,000, is important to me because I genuinely love what I do. It still amazes me that something I enjoy so much is "work."

I was extremely disappointed with my experience with Dewitt Planning. I was planning a small backyard wedding with my immediate family and the reception was just going to be a dinner party on a lake with 10 people at my parents home. I found Jess on TheKnot where she listed herself as based out of New London, CT. This was close to where we were getting married so I reached out, we chatted and she seemed great so we went ahead and booked her. Shortly after we signed the contract and paid a deposit, I saw on social media that she had relocated to Utah and she was now an event planner traveling “worldwide”. This was a little concerning because there was no communication to me but I thought okay, as long as you’re able to do the job and get to CT on the day of my wedding, all planning aspects can be done virtually.
I never received any sort of checklist or planning guide from her. I received a “vibe board” which was basically a .pdf of pictures that she had copied from my Pinterest page that I sent to her. I never received any communication or recommendations for decor, place settings, seating arrangements, etc.
It would take weeks to receive a response from her. I never received initial recommendations for catering, photographer, etc. I had to reach out to her first every time and weeks later she would send me one or two names of companies (which I could have easily googled myself). She did recommend one local catering company and one guitar player which both turned out to be great.
The floral planning was a disaster. She recommended one company based 2+ hours away who after weeks of back and forth told me we wouldn’t be a good fit, that she was out of our price range and I didn’t meet the minimum. Jess never helped with budgeting (as mentioned in the contract). She did offer to help with florals herself because apparently she has a floral design company as well. I was not sure I was comfortable using her for that at this point because the communication had been so poor. I ended up reaching out to a local florist who was so quick to respond and extremely helpful and I planned my own florals. Jess barely corresponded with any of the vendors, I was left to do this all on my own too.
I ended up getting a refund because I certainly did not receive the 2k worth of services I paid for. She was too busy trying to be an influencer on social media than doing her actual job.
We had a luxury wedding in Park City and I wish we forfeited our contract with Jess and went with someone else. I'd hate for another bride to have a once in alifetime event and go through what we did.
First, I'll say there were things that went right. Our decor was mostly as it should be. She made sure we were fed and she helped take everything out of the venue the night of.
With that being said, she showed up in corduroy shorts to a black tie affair. So many guests and family members were asking who the person in shorts was.
She had no idea who I was and mistook me for my bridesmaid. We've met 4 times and she had no idea who I was. And she was rude to some of my bridesmaids as well.
She popped my bottle of Vueve for our champagne tower and poured it herself. We went to go do the champagne tower to find our champagne was already poured.
She was extremely late to get to our venue and when problems with chairs for ceremony seating came up she was not only not there but wasn't answering her phone and my now Husband had to be there at the venue calling me while I got my make up done trying to fix it all.
She did not look at my final documents of the seating chart so my family was seated in the back of the room for dinner and the sequencing was wrong for the ceremony. It wasn't a huge deal but all encompassing she had no idea what was happening.
Mid dinner she decided she didn't like my timeline with how I had a first dance, speeches, then family dances so she decided to tell the DJ without speaking to my Husband and I that it was being changed. We had to go on stage and have a debate about the timeline mid dinner in front of all of our guests. If she was not happy with our timeline it should've been discussed months prior. Her argument was it would "save time" and "flow better" to switch it around which made no sense to me and I had it the way we did so I could say a few words before the dance with my dad.
We had cement pillars with flower bushels on top for the ceremony which she knew would need to be moved from our outdoor terrace to inside for dinner. Very short move. She refused to do it and I had to ask staff members personally to move them for photos. She said the staff was busy serving dinner but it was a buffet dinner that was already set out. Makes me believe she had no idea it was not a plated dinner.
Our welcome sign blew over and my hair stylist that were at the event asked her to fix and they said she blew it off. They said they fixed it.
Her communication leading up to the event and on the day was horrendous. She did not speak to a single vendor for us and did not take the lead on anything.
She had no idea what was happening with this event and I've never seen someone more unprofessional in my life. Vendors and guests were asking why she was snarling and being rude all night. Constantly, getting asked "what is up with your wedding planner".
I never write reviews but I hope to help other brides not go through this when they're planning their once in a lifetime event.
Okay we are way behind the curve on reviewing Jessica, but I blame that on still trying to come down from honeymoon high. I’m just so thankful for everything she has done for me from planning to my wedding day. I have some… testy in-laws and she absolutely put herself in the way of sooooo many stresses for me. The wedding morning was waaaay more calm than I ever thought it could be, honestly a wedding magician. As mentioned in some of the recent reviews, she had a tough couple weeks communicating… as expected for someone who had serious health complications. She actively communicated with me what was going on, let me know she would be having delays and still made it to my wedding/ worked 12 hours straight. My day was beautiful and so amazing, and you would never even tell all she was going through. Honestly I don’t even know how to describe it, besides just admiration for her. She had such a kind energy, and all my family and friends loved having her around. Her design, florals are all wonderful and truly just so personalized. 200/10 would hire again! And Jessica, seriously thank you so much for everything you did for Kyle and I. Reunion at Tulie’s?
When you see the one and two star reviews, believe them. I had a very similar experience to the two other brides here, except I was fortunate enough to be able to fire her (or as I know she’s going to put it in her mile-long response, she quit because she was uncomfortable when I questioned exactly what she had gotten done 12 days before my wedding).
I hired her for month-of coordination for my wedding on October 7th. Between our first meeting on September 11th and September 25th, I did not hear a word from her, outside of her telling me I could not text her, only email, when I was trying to get a response on whether or not she’d be able to attend my venue walkthrough. This was despite my having texted her previously without any issues when I couldn’t get her to respond via email.
To make a long story a tiny bit shorter, I was obviously concerned about what exactly I had paid her $2000 for, so I contacted some of my vendors to ask if she’d reached out to them. Since we were less than two weeks out, she should have assumed all vendor communication at that point. She had not even introduced herself to any of them - photographer, DJ, makeup, venue, nobody had heard a peep.
Also per the month-of package, I should have received a finalized schedule two weeks out. Obviously that didn’t happen. So I asked her to lay out exactly what she had done up to that point, and it was very clear from her excuses, her deflecting, and talking in circles that she had not done a thing. She even went as far as to try to gaslight me about what was part of the package I paid for (venue walkthrough) even though it is explicitly stated on her website. She had no idea how I wanted things set up, and clearly didn’t care to find out.
After some exhausting back and forth and a litany of excuses, I instructed her to consider the contract void and refund the full $2000. I followed up several times asking about the status of the refund with zero response, naturally. It took over a month to get my money back, and only after threatening to file a chargeback.
If she wasn’t able to fulfill her planner duties, I would have completely understood if she’d told me before the 30-day clock started. But instead she left me high and dry less than two weeks before my wedding. I honestly don’t know if she would have even showed up the day of. Luckily the amazing coordinators at our venue went above and beyond for us after hearing what happened.
Frequent, proactive communication doesn’t appear to be a strong suit, which suggests this line of business might not be a good fit for her. The lack of professionalism is beyond appalling and I truly feel for the other couples she’s burned. I hired her to make my life easier and the whole experience did exactly the opposite. Please spare yourself the anguish and look elsewhere.
FYI: it looks like she has changed her business’ name to Authenica which is…rich.
Beautiful florals but horrible communication. Never reached out to our vendors when she said she did. I crafted my timeline, venue layout (which was in my invoice as a service of hers), paid our entire invoice before she even sent a proposal with photos to ensure we were on the same page (she finally did 1.5 weeks before my wedding). I tried to terminate our contract 2 weeks before because I truly had no idea what would show on my wedding but she threatened to keep our money after doing nothing. When given feedback it was only met with excuses and zero accountability. Here came the day of my wedding and she left part way through, had an assistant take her place who then left as well, and a second assistant showed up. They each provided ZERO help. If I could go back, I never would have booked.
Working with Jess was one of the best decisions I made in my wedding planning process. We had her booked for her full wedding planning package, and it was worth every penny.. We were planning our wedding in Salt Lake City for 197 guests(to be exact!) and we knew we needed help so we went searching for a planner and we came across Jess with Dewitt planning. She was so much fun to work with and I loved working with her from booking to my wedding day. She is a pro in making sure the planning process is actually enjoyable. Our main goal was to make our wedding worth the amount of money we were putting into it, and while other planners were more strict on the "bigger budget the better," Jess really makes the most of whatever budget you have. We were able to put together our dream wedding for half of what everyone else said we had to spend to have a good wedding. Highly recommend her and her team!!!!
We hired Jess back in 2022 for our destination wedding in Park City, and we could not have been more glad we did! We felt so at ease with her relaxing approach in comparison to some wedding planner that seemed a little too tense for our crowd. She helped us with everything from getting our venue, to vendors, to decor and florals throughout our time working together. I am not the type of person to have an "eye" for design and don't like making decisions on that kind of stuff and she made the process so simple and easy. We decided to have our wedding in Utah, because we love coming out here in the winter to Ski and wanted to share that with our family and friends. Considering 98% percent of our guests were traveling in, she helped us with room blocks, gathering information to make it easier for our family and friends to travel, and came up with some really epic welcome bags for them at the hotel. It was such a blessing, because I never even knew how tough it would be to rangle 175 guests traveling to a place they have never been, but I am SO glad I had her to help. All this aside, Jess was just a breath of fresh air out here in Utah, and I understand what she says when she calls herself the "black sheep in the wedding industry"... because she truly is. Our family + friends loved working with her and she really just fit right in. After the wedding, she truly felt like a friend to me, and we had created such a great relationship in my time working with her. If you are debating on it, hire her. She was my rock, sense of reason, and my sounding board when my family was getting overwhelming....(anyone relate?) Me and Jackson are so grateful + glad we hired her!
If you're planning a medium+ wedding, I would not recommend hiring Jess.
First, I'll start with the positives: Jess did an AMAZING job with the flowers. We had hired her as our florist and I would highly recommend her for all of your floral needs. In addition to that I do think she has a good eye for design / aesthetics.
Unfortunately the negatives far outweigh the positives. We had a wedding of ~115 people. I believe Jess specializes in smaller weddings / elopements, and when we asked about her experience with weddings around our size she said it was no problem and she does these weddings all the time. Specifically, we were looking for a planner that was on the creative side as we do not have an eye for that kind of thing. That was the main reason we went with Jess - we really liked her vibe. The main lesson learned is that while creativity is nice, you really want to work with someone who is organized, proactive, and communicative. Jess was none of those things. We had to constantly stay on top of her, and if we didn't have a meeting we would go a month+ without hearing from her. When we did reach out, usually there was a huge time lag. Her auto-response said 48-72 hours, but I'd have to set myself reminders to follow-up with her a week later as I knew it was likely I wouldn't get a response. I do not believe Jess reached out to confirm vendors as I did that myself and one of our main vendors didn't even realize we had a wedding planner. Even simple things like putting together a schedule for the weekend to share with our family/wedding party, she just copy/pasted from the other vendors and didn't take the time to put anything in a chronological order to make it a comprehensive schedule. Luckily, I had a template from a friend that her wedding planner used and just did it myself.
We even had a meeting with Jess to talk about how poorly things were going and an action plan to turn things around (we were ready to fire her). While things got better for a short period, they quickly reverted back to lack of communication, disorganization, etc. My biggest regret is not firing her when we had the chance earlier on in the process. Working with Jess created more stress than I think it would have been just doing it myself and hiring a month-of coordinator.
If you're looking for someone for a small wedding or elopement, it seems like she does great with that from the reviews; and if you're looking for a florist I highly recommend her. But learn from our mistake and if you are having a somewhat larger wedding, hire someone who specializes in that size.
Jessica was great! We hired her for month-of coordination and she absolutely made sure our wedding day ran smoothly. She was ready to work as soon as she arrived, setting up florals and tables beautifully even in the midst of an insane wind storm. She stayed late to make sure all rentals that needed to be taken down by morning were dealt with and she was a great point of contact for our vendors during the week of the wedding. Her floral arrangements were gorgeous and she made sure to stay within our budget. She brought our vision to life and we are so happy we hired her for our wedding!
If you are looking for a wedding planner who will bring your wedding vision to life, please hire Jess asap! We planned our destination Utah wedding from out of state and she was amazing. She helped us find incredible vendors and created a beyond gorgeous weekend for us. We also used her floral company, speakeasy florals which was an amazing decision because the flowers were stunning. Her calm and level headed attitude was also very appreciated, especially when we were feeling stressed or anxious about planning. We highly recommend Jessica ( and her floral company) for your wedding weekend!!
We hired Jess to plan our wedding and do our flowers. She understood the vision from the get go, was reasonably priced, and successfully managed a lot of chaos behind the scenes. For example, the bus bringing our guests up the mountain broke down — and I, the bride, was clueless to any of the problems as they were happening. I’m so glad I had her there to make sure things went smoothly and I could focus on being present. Our wedding was even better than I could have imagined, best day of my life!
We feel so lucky to be able to have had Jess plan our wedding. She made our non-transitional disco wedding come to life. Leading up to the wedding she was always available when needed, and held our hand every step of the way. Not only did she plan our wedding, but she also designed our decor and florals. She truly is a one stop shop which made the planning process super easy for us. She is super easy going, easy to work with, and has a beautiful eye for design. The day of the event, she was there all day managing vendors, family members, and even power outages. She handled it like a seasoned vet. I’m so grateful we had her there, it made our special day stress free. If you are on the fence, book with Jess, you won’t forget it!
Ugh. If The Knot allowed 10/5 stars thats what Jess deserves. I hired her for floral and a picnic setup for my elopement. She absolutely exceeded my expectations! She perfectly portrayed both mine and my fiancés tastes in the most beautiful way. She was very responsive, helpful and knowledgeable from day one right up the our wedding day. Her unique take on florals and her creative design are something I’ve never seen or experienced. Hire her! You won’t regret it!
I can’t thank Jess enough for making my wedding so magical. She was on top of everything from our first call, to the wedding day. Booking Dewitt planning was the best choice we made in the wedding planning process!
Wow! Dewitt planning really came in and helped get our backyard wedding to go off without a hitch. We were having some questions about layout and setup and flow and she came right in and did an amazing job. Her creativity and floral design eye is uncanny. She created the most beautiful photo booth backdrop i have ever seen. I cannot recommend Dewitt Planning enough! Thanks so much for everything!
WOW!!!!!!!!! Jess is absolutely hands down, just
THE BEST! We could not recommend her enough, book her book her book her! From our first communications, Jess was so friendly and shared the same excitement we had for our wedding day. Jess has an eye for detail and helped us set up everything we envisioned! During our wedding we did have a few hiccups (naturally) and we knew nothing about them, thanks to her! Jess made everything go so smooth and was an absolute joy to work with, she really puts her heart into everything she does and it truly shows. She is incredible, our day was made perfect because of her!!!!
Jess is a magician with decor and florals. We recently worked together on a destination elopement in Southern Utah with a tight timeline, and in 20 minutes, (not to mention the 103 degree weather) she pulled it all together flawlessly!
She is organized, has a great attitude, and is fun to be around!!!
As a co-vendor for weddings and elopements, I highly recommend her for your wedding planning and floral needs!
As a wedding photographer who has been to literally hundreds of weddings and seen both great and terrible vendors, it was really hard for me to ask for help when planning my wedding. Jess stepped in at the 11th hour to do coordination for our microwedding— something that i didn’t think at first I needed, but could not have been MORE helpful. Jess is not only a fantastic human being in terms of work ethic and talent, but she did what very few people can do for me— keep me super chill, completely unconcerned, and calm. Our food was an hour and a half late (the caterers mistake) and Jess calmed handled the situation while helping make snack plates for my guests to eat while simultaneously talking me down when I was stressed. She has such a great attention to detail, blends right in with the group in the best way, and is so reliable, wonderful, and talented. Don’t think twice, just book her.
Jessica was the wedding day-of-coordinator for my outdoor garden wedding. I hired her when she first opened up her own business. At the time she did not have many reviews to go off of, but I trusted that she would be perfect as our DOC because she had many years of hospitality experience. From the beginning, she was excellent at communicating and was very accommodating when I rescheduled my original date due to COVID.
Our wedding was very much DIY, so our venue for the most part was hands-off. My biggest worry was the logistics of decoration set up, so I gave Jessica the decorations and supplies (very meat and potatoes), and let her handle it with minimal direction. What she created was a masterpiece; it was better than what I could have envisioned. Walking into my wedding was seriously a dream.
Throughout the rest of the day, she was super low-key but always moving onto the next thing behind the scenes. She took care of handing the marriage license to the JP, putting the boutonnieres on the millions of men in our wedding party (they all stayed put throughout the night), finding the bridesmaids to give/take their bouquets to set them for table decorations, putting on my bustle, quietly putting away decorations as the party came to an end, and more. All these things she did without cue, and before I even realized it, everything was already taken care of. Because she was so proactive, I was able to enjoy my wedding party that I had planned for so long!
Hiring Jessica as my DOC was one of those things I didn't know I needed until the day of my wedding. Thanks to her, our wedding day ran so smoothly and looked stunning! Literally straight out of instagram/pinterest. On top of that, she had me cracking up all night! Thanks so much, Jessica!
Jessica played a HUGE role in saving our wedding, as we moved our wedding venue from an established location to a backyard wedding. Everything was DIY and she took our items and vision and made it a masterpiece. Everything was BEAUTIFUL and everything we imagined and more. Not only did she set up and execute the wedding of our dreams, she coordinated our ceremony rehearsal in the pouring rain with no complaints and even brought a set of umbrellas for our wedding party and ensured everyone knew what they needed to do the following day. The day of the wedding was flawless - she arrived at the perfect time and took the stress right out of our hands. She coordinated with vendors as they arrived and set up, she directed us as we walked out of the ceremony to ensure perfect spacing and timing and she was our right hand woman throughout the entire event. Her personality is one for the books and we couldn't have chosen a better planner/coordinator. Jessica exceeded our expectations 100% and we absolutely recommend her for your special day!
Jessica was amazing and helped make our day run smoothly and beautifully. Due to the events of the year, we had ever-changing wedding plans, including moving our wedding closer by two months! Jessica was flexible and responsive to everything. So happy we chose Dewitt planning to help with our perfect day!
I LOVE Jess! Just everything about her will make you feel like you've had her as your friend for years. What she creates is always a work of art and will make any wedding ceremony, elopement, reception, etc. look elevated, tasteful, and gorgeous. She's incredibly creative with her designs and you won't find anything like her work elsewhere. You know that when you work with her she's not going to up sell you on things you don't need/want. She listens to you and wants to make your wedding day yours because you're unique. I honestly couldn't recommend anyone else but Jess to help plan a wedding.
Where do I start?
As a wedding photographer, sometimes working with planners can be a little unnerving. There's a LOT that goes into photographing a wedding, so many moving parts, and Jess not only understands them but helps us navigate them with the client to ensure we can do the best job possible. To have comraderie and teamwork like Jess's on a wedding day is essential and one of the biggest blessings you'll receive in hiring her. Other planners sure can give you attention to detail, so much support, and create a perfect day for you — but Jess gives you so much more in the teamwork she cultivates with the vendors.
Having worked with Jess on weddings and styled shoots gives me a little more intimate view into how she works with clients. For styled shoots, she has been a wealth of knowledge, resources, and literally stuff — she knows how to score the best deals on decor and make any set up look natural, organic, and authentic. It's been incredible working with her and I'm so excited to do more with her.
Jess is literally the first step to a dream team of wedding vendors! We often think of a venu + photographer when picking our first vendors but I highly recommend having picking a planner being one of the first things you do! As a wedding vendor AND bride to be myself I have not only seen the work of Jess personally, I have worked professionally with her on many shoots and weddings and she is always blowing me away each time! Her designs are unique, her personality is passionate and kind, and I happily refer my wedding clients to Jess!
I’ve been lucky enough to work with Jess on a few educations and literally cannot say enough about her. She is so creative and brought whatever convoluted vision I had to life for a beautiful elopement shoot. She was great at listening to me, coming up with things I had never even thought of, and executing those ideas to perfection. As a photographer I’ve worked with a lot of planners and designers that kind of end up leading the couple in the direction that they want (not the couple) because it’ll be cool for their portfolio or it’s the trendy thing to be doing but Jess actually listens to her clients and makes sure that their personality is reflected in the event and styling of the day, which I so so appreciate. Jess is also an incredibly fun and calming presence to have the day of. Whenever there’s an issue, which there always inevitably is, she takes care of it without the client ever knowing that there was something up in the first place. She takes so much stress away it is so invaluable. Also working with a planner is a long process and she’s just an absolute blast to have on your team throughout it all. When I get married I already know for a fact I’ll have Jess planning it all!
Honestly have so much to say about Jess and what she does, but all I can say is thank you. She made my wedding day, she was incredible! she was always there for my questions and concerns, she was down to help with my DIY projects, and day of she was truly amazing I had no stress in the world because I knew that she was working her butt off to make my day the best it could be. If you are on the fence about who to hire for any event, please don't hesitate to email Dewitt Planning & Design Co. amazing work for a truly amazing women behind it all!
I had the pleasure of talking with Jess about planning my wedding. Unfortunately, with the timing of the event and Jess and I meeting, my husband and I decided that it would be best to see how our venue handled everything. This is one of my biggest regrets of our day. I know that Jess would have handled every bump or hiccup with ease and make sure our wedding turned out exactly how I imagined. Talking with Jess, gave me a sense that she cared deeply about my event being the absolute best that it could be. She was well informed about the ins and outs of wedding planning. We walked through every single one of my concerns and worked through ways to possibly mitigate the issues. She took the time to understand exactly why I was calling and what I was looking for. Do not make the mistake I made. Your wedding is a massive day that you should not have to have a single worry about. With Jess’s help I know your event will be as easy and enjoyable as it should be!
A LIFESAVER. Jessica was one of the greatest additions to my wedding day. I booked Jessica back in 2018 to assist on my wedding day, and thank god I did. She is so professional, but so fun to be around.. She even controlled my crazy family members from getting out of control at my reception. If you are thinking of hiring here, do it! You will not regret it.
