My (now) husband has been buying be bouquets from this River Market gem since we moved to KC, so when we planned our wedding, it was a natural choice. Els understood my vision and look immediately, and was absolutely spot on in creating a bouquets using my requested flowers and designing a chuppah for our Jewish ceremony. She even helped me price out centerpieces and agreed to still work with us when I decided the centerpieces where out of our budget (I ended up DYI-ing those). The quote, including my and my girls' bouquets, corsages for the moms and delivery, set up and teardown on the chuppah (wedding canopy) was VERY reasonable. The entire crew is very easy-going and laid back, which is great, but can make a type-A producer (like me) a little anxious at times. I've seen this concern from other brides as well. Rest assured, Els does deliver and quite beautifully!
We received a quote and paid the initial deposit for a very simple order: 8 corsages, 8-10 boutonnieres, and 2 floral sprays for the church some 6 months before our wedding day. (We had no bouquets, no table arrangements - overall an EASY order for a professional florist.)
The months passed and we began to worry as we had not heard from Dutch Flowers. Four weeks out from our wedding, we called Dutch Flowers but did not get a call back. Lucky for us, a friend knows the owner and did some investigation: we learned that the employee we worked with no longer works there and the owner had NO IDEA we had an order pending or a deposit paid.
Well, we set up a meeting with the owner ASAP, reviewing our needs, showing her our receipt for the deposit and she told us she'd be ready to meet our order.
The next day, she submitted a "new" estimate for the order that was DOUBLE what the original quote was...DOUBLE...a month before our wedding.
When I told her that we would have never put a deposit down for such an expensive quote (for a VERY small order, mind you) she did not budge. She simply refused to honor the original quote provided by HER employee.
In order to not waste the deposit, we removed the sprays from the order and just supplied our families with the C's and B's as originally planned.
While they were pretty, the entire experience there was unprofessional, stressful, and completely absurd. The flowers were nice but the business ethics, customer service response, and lack of professionalism was too much to overcome.
I DO NOT recommend them.
I won flowers here at one of the bridal shows. The flowers were just right! We spend a lot of time picking just the right look and we got it in Aces! Everyone loved the flowers, even the men noticed! How often does that happen?
Melissa is inspired, energetic, dedicated and creative. One of the things I liked most about working with her was the effort she made to understand my taste. She wasn't interested in pushing her own taste on me. If you look at her portfolio, you'll see that she doesn't have a thing she always does. She works with her clients in mind. Once she figured me out, then the independence with which she catered to it. She figured me out, however, she worked very independently. I was actually pretty surprised when I saw our table arrangements... and I mean that in a GOOD way. I knew what I wanted to a degree, but not being a floral designer myself, I didn't know how to explain or express it. She did something waaaaaaay better than I would have done had I been calling every single shot, but yet she nailed my aesthetic completely. She also designed a truly unique chuppa for my Jewish wedding and used real creativity to work around my budgetary preferences. She also delivered the flowers the day-of and brought a whole team with her even thought my wedding was day-trip distance from town. Some things to have a last minute feel to them in the days leading up to the ceremony, but flowers are living things and Melissa works as an artist, which means those last few days are a flurry of inspiration and activity. I can respect that. It's something you should probably be willing to respect as well if you choose her. She won't disappoint.
The flowers came out beautifully! And she provided a few backups for the boutonnieres in case the heat made them wilt.
The only bummer was the father of the bride boutonniere was missing, but we used the backup for the groom so everyone still had flowers :)
Mellissa was great to work with! and the flowers came out great!
Of all my vendors, I found Dutch Flowers to be the most difficult to get ahold of and then confirm my vision. But, wow did they come through. Our flowers were unique, modern and exactly what I asked for. It may take a little extra patience...but it's worth the wait.
Very helpful! They did everything they could to find the flowers that I was wanting!!
Very cute shop and nice people! I did not do a whole lot of flowers but the ones I did have were GREAT!
I love flowers! I had all my vases bought, all my designs thought out with pictures, etc. I was very organized which should have made her job a breeze. She has a cute store and is a very nice lady. Unfortunately the results we received we just not even close to acceptable. I thought she would be able to put together centerpieces, etc that would be amazing but I was wrong. Everything was a little less than what I had asked for and I was very detailed. I paid her over $2,000.00 and definitely expected to be wow… Wowed I was NOT! I asked for no carnations at all. I showed her a bridesmaid picture of calla lilies (paid for an expensive flower) and all bridesmaids bouquets were carnations (probably worth 50 cents). So frustrating. I asked for no fake flowers. All centerpieces had fake flowers in them. We discussed pearls as accents in the grooms and groomsmen flowers…none were there. Did I mention I provided all the pearls as well? And that I never got them back? The only thing I liked was my bouquet which was $300.00 and I had a picture of exactly how to make it. We tipped her ahead of time and now wish we would have even gotten some money back for being taken advantage of. I used to work with flowers and know what they cost. She is way TOO HIGH PRICED FOR WHAT SHE PROVIDES. Good Luck to anyone who wants to be impressed with their florist vendor and chooses her. She is nice but I was paying for nice flowers and they weren’t!
variety of flower selection great price and really nice service
