About this vendor
Heartland Farms is a lakeside wedding destination in Bourbon, MO. This full-functioning farm is home to a large rustic barn and acres of lush fields to give you a pastoral backdrop as you exchange vows. Their multiple packages designed for elopements, ceremonies, and receptions at any day of the week ensure that the location can work for any couple’s vision.
Heartland Farms was established in 2015, and originally open to the public as a family retreat with a wide pumpkin patch and custom-made corn mazes. After years of being an ideal spot for autumnal leisure, they opened their doors for couples looking to marry away from the busy city life. Whether you want a romantic indoor setting or peaceful water in the background, Heartland Farms will work to create the wedding of your dreams.
The indoor event space on the property gives 3,500 square feet of smooth stone floor to work with, and can seat 250 guests comfortably. The interior features natural oak cut walls, pine ceiling, and over 40 windows for natural lighting to make you feel one with nature. The covered outdoor patio with cask decor shields the couple from the elements while still giving guests a panoramic view of the thriving woods. String lights hang above the patio grounds to illuminate the dance floor as the guests dance under the stars. For engaged duos that want a ceremony with creative twists, the corn maze provides plenty of rural charm with an adventurous touch. If you walk through the wooden arch entrance, nestled in the woods by the lake is a handmade, towering wooden pergola for fairy-tale affairs. Your guests and wedding entourage can be transported to this intimate setting by the wagons driven by the onsite staff. Tables, chairs, and other furniture will be set up by the farm’s dedicated team in any of the venues you prefer. The experienced bartenders and servers will be available to make sure your guests are taken care of during the reception. In addition, Heartland Farms has get-ready suites for your wedding party before the ceremony, and two large bedrooms for a relaxing overnight stay.

Heartland Farms is absolutely beautiful! Although the staff was sick, they were just a phone call or text away and always helped! They were very kind when we got to the venue the day before! The bartenders were great!
I agree with the other reviews that the communication is very lacking. We tried several times to get in contact and left voicemails with no luck. I called the number attached to our early email communications and it was someone that hasn't worked there for 2 years.
The venue is beautiful but on the day of the cleanliness was lacking. When we were setting up the night before nothing was clean and noone was there. Pam said she'd be there by 11am and she didn't come until around 3. I asked if someone could do a clean and said she'd be there the next day by 11 and she'd clean the floors then so they'd be perfect. She never came and dead bugs were everywhere during the reception. The cake table had dried on icing from the previous wedding. The stacked pallets on the wall for decor had old fairy lights so tangled on there we had to pull the whole thing down to take them off.
The bridal suite was also not clean and lacked a large mirror. We were unaware because when we scheduled my showing another wedding was going on so we didn't get to tour. I wasn't aware and I wish they would have told me so I could have rescheduled. There were old used pasties and lots of other garbage in the vanity drawers. Very unsanitary.
The lake ceremony site also had a lot of garbage from the previous wedding. Pam also inserted herself and was in the background of all the photos of going down the isle.
Pam wanted me to pay for more guests then I was having because I asked for extra chairs at the tables so everyone could choose where to sit comfortably. We had to pay for the alcohol package for minors which I think is ridiculous.
We catered food and nowhere in the contract did it say we had to feed the bartender. We only paid for one but Pam and her two children were there. They all took plates and Pam got seconds. At $25/plate that's really unprofessional. Pam leaves after eating our food and her kids told us my wedding was a test run for them because it was small. I had to ask them to turn the exterior lights on which took them 20 minutes because they didn't know how and the same for the firepit.
Beautiful venue but as much as I paid I wish we would have gone somewhere else. I shouldn't have had to clean at my own wedding and their drink packages are mandatory and very penny pinching.
The venue was wonderful and the staff were great until the end of the wedding. They changed our original contract, didn’t tell us they updated their policy about their bar and then when I asked questions prior to our wedding no information about their new policy was mentioned. I asked if the bar tab would be based off the number of people that went through the dinner line. I was told yes. Then when the night was over they charged my parents for the number of attendees we told them before the wedding. We didn’t even have half of our guest show up to our wedding. When my parents confronted them about it they sent my mom the changed contract and told her about the new policy. When she mentioned the text messages they asked her to send them to a number. When she did, they never called her back and stopped answering the phone. She left numerous other messages and they still have not called her back. If you go with this venue make sure you get a copy of your contract and I don’t recommend you do the open bar. The bar tender also stole the money our guests had put in a jar to help cover our bar tab after she was informed what the money was for. This was also brought to the owner’s attention and they did nothing about it.
The ceremony and reception venues are absolutely gorgeous. There is a good sized room for the bridal party to get ready in, and a bathroom for the groom's party. The reception area is large, with room for a great buffet. The staff and manager were very accommodating to my requests, but I often had to ask twice to get answers to a question over email.
The issue with this venue is communication. I had numerous phone calls, emails, and meetings with the venue coordinators, and it was sometimes difficult to get a clear answer. The largest issue was on the wedding day. We opted for a cash bar, and brought our own catering. I was planning on bringing water and lemonade, but the wedding coordinator assured me in an email and a phone call that they would cover water, coffee, and lemonade for our guests. However, after the ceremony during family pictures the mothers of the bride and groom were asked who was going to cover the price for these drinks, at $5 a head for an 150 person party. It was highly stressful for my mom, because this was the first time a fee was mentioned. It was very unprofessional that the venue decided to address this issue during the middle of my wedding, instead of the rehearsal dinner or the year of planning before my event. My mom missed about an hour of the reception on the phone and addressing this issue. There had been no mention or documentation of the extra fee, and fortunately no one was charged. There was a second communication issue when my mom was asked to pay the bartender fee during the reception. Another call had to be made and it was found that I already paid the fee. I was the point of contact, and it was unprofessional to ask my mom to handle financial concerns when she had not been a part of the planning of the venue, especially during the wedding. I just found out about the trouble that my mom was caused because of these communication errors. If you book this venue, make sure to have documentation and notes of conversations and plans. Their documentation and communication system is flawed, but the venue is absolutely beautiful and the price is good.
Great family owned farm! They are so nice and are willing to help in anyway they can to make your day perfect. Lots of fun activities on the property as well!
Beautiful venue, easy going staff and great service. The weather was questionable on our wedding day, but the staff worked quickly and effortlessly to make sure that our big day went off without a hitch. This is a local, family owned venue. They are adding to it all the time ( new ceremony site!) We can’t think of a better place to have been married! We recommend them to everyone.
We used Heartland Farms as our wedding venue and could not have been happier with our choice. Everything was perfect! Hayden did an amazing job making sure that we had everything we needed. He even dealt with my millions of questions prior to my wedding. He helped us get everything set up and ready to go. We even stayed the night prior to the wedding and were able to have a bon fire and play with the various activities they have. The location is BEAUTIFUL. The bridal suites and rooms are beautiful! We received compliments all night from guests and even other vendors. Our photographers were in love with the venue and how beautifully if photographed.
We loved heartland farms and Hayden, the site manager. The venue was perfect but of course we knew that going into it. What we didn’t expect was to be so welcomed by Hayden. He seriously went above and beyond on everything. I was kind of a crazy bride and wanted to make sure everything was perfect, Hayden had absolutely no problem with any of my requests. Hayden met us at the venue probably like 12 times for me to show it to people or look at something or to just admire it. He seriously was amazing!!
