* 2 out of the 6 waiters didn’t show up! *
Full story: We hired JJ Staffing Events for our wedding in Endless Mountains PA, they seemed very professional online and I spoke with Jamilka on the phone before hiring them. I was surprised that the...y were out of NYC but advertised in the Scranton area, so when I expressed concern about them coming 2 hours out of the city, she assured me that they travel well and personally guaranteed that they would show up. There was a ‘travel fee’ associated with the captain and each of the six waiters I hired – presumably towards renting a collective van or bus so they would all arrive together. We took her at her word, paid everything up front and confirmed a few days before the wedding.
Of course, 2 of 6 waiters did not show up. 1/3 of the workforce. The captain, Jamy – who was late arriving with the other waiters - had no idea where they were. Our coordinator was informed at 12 noon that a ‘car had broken down’ and that was that. Jamilka was unreachable. Captain Jamy had no solutions to offer. Nobody contacted me. There was no attempt on their end to find replacements to the best of our knowledge, even though the reception didn’t start until 6:30pm. Instead, we were left scrambling all night long because losing 33% of the waitstaff meant that every single thing went 33% slower: Set up was way behind schedule so the attention to detail really suffered. Personal items meant to be placed and moved were abandoned because we had to pull different workers from their specific areas to do the server’s set-up jobs. At the event itself, we now only had 4 waiters for 115 guests!! So naturally, the buffet stations were sloppy and not replenished on time, people couldn't get water refills or drinks quickly, spoons were immersed in sauces, food was lukewarm at best because when it was hot only 4 people could bring it, not 6. There were empty plates not bussed, empty shavers and dishes sat around, the 4 waiters were running for their lives, it was all very noticeable. Our cocktail hour was supposed to have 4 servers walking around with hors d'oerves, and I honestly don't think we had any at all. Very embarrassing. When it was time for the bridal party toasts, the waiters were so scattered that 2 of my friends and I – the groom! - had to hustle up to the house to find the Proseco and then run around pouring it for the guests ourselves!! And at the end of the night, I still tipped the servers well but Jamy thought it wasn’t enough and straight up asked me for more! Regretfully, I actually GAVE her more money because I used to be a waiter and know it wasn’t their fault that their co-workers were no shows. But still, unbelievable to even ask.
Bottom line: We planned this wedding for 9 months and the functionality was severely compromised due to JJ Staffing’s negligence and irresponsibility. THEY DIDN’T ALL SHOW UP! Jamilka *should* have been mortified and reached out immediately – but inexplicably, she didn’t send any acknowledgement or apology at all. I had to reach out to HER to ask about this situation. She took zero accountability, said it was just 'bad luck', and then offered to refund the 2 servers fees as if that would make everything okay in her book. Her actual quote was: "Issues as such are not how we run our staffing agency." But... apparently it is. Very disappointing.
