First the good parts, food was excellent, sunset/outdoor area was perfect and staff was for the most part accommodating.
Now the not so good part. About two months prior to the w...edding the general manager let me know that there were noise violations against the restaurant and it wouldn't be possible to have the band play outside for the party. He said we could move the band inside, which wasn’t a realistic option, since the space inside is small with very low ceilings, not ideal for a 10-piece band or dancing. We had already rented a 10K tent for the band. He really didn’t have an option for us, and we didn't need this stress two months prior to the wedding.
I am in event planning, so came up with a solution. I suggested we move the wedding to 2:30pm, 4 hours earlier, since the band was permitted to play outside until 7:30pm. He said that was an option, but then we would have to rent the space for both lunch and dinner and it would cost an additional $2,500, added on to what we had already paid for the space, $7,000. This doesn’t even include the food, drinks, tips and taxes that we were already paying. I thought he was kidding. The violations were his fault and he wanted me to pay to start earlier? He wouldn’t waive this cost and really left us no choice. We were upset that we wouldn’t be able to have our sunset wedding ceremony as planned, but with only two months to go it was too later to change the venue. In addition to this cost, I needed to re-order and send invitations with the new time, which also cost us an additional $500.
We made the best out of the situation and started the ceremony at 2:30pm and the band started at 3:00pm. The schedule, which the manager reviewed and approved a week prior, had the band playing until 7:30pm, but at 7:00 pm on the dot they shut the band down.
Did this whole fiasco ruin our wedding? No. The band was amazing, even if we only got to hear them for 4 hours, when we paid for 6. What really upset me the most...spending almost 50K at Navy Beach and not a call or email post-wedding to check on whether we were happy with the service they provided. All 10 of the other vendors we used followed up to make sure we were happy with the services they provided. Now almost 2 month later, not one call or email from Navy Beach. It was very disappointing.
If you are looking to have a beach wedding, and plan on having music, sadly I wouldn’t recommend this venue.
