The building that would become known as Monarch on Main was built around the turn of the 20th century by Henry Preston King and stood for many years as a department store serving communities far and wide. It was one of the largest retail destinations at the time and evolved into a symbol of the growth and prosperity in Johnson City. One hundred years on, it underwent restoration work and again became a place that represented the local people. This time, however, Monarch on Main became an urban loft space that welcomes wedding parties of up to 350 people. Featuring exposed brick throughout, original hardwood floors, and warm, natural light, it is one of the most versatile event spaces in Tennessee.
