I am so grateful that I found Saxman Slim!
Dawson was exceptional! He was one of our absolute favorite parts of our wedding. Our theme was Vintage Romance and Champagne. Dawson was a critical component in bringing our vision to life. He is a very talented individual and we will always remember him. Guests of all ages raved about him even months after our wedding. I wanted the elegance and romance of the saxophone without sacrificing my love to dance. He gave us the best of both worlds. My family loves to dance. He kept us all on the dance floor all night. Dawson and Saxman Slim was the very best decision!
"We talked to Evan, he is very nice (he's new so I think he needs some time to figure things out), about keeping the volume lower than he usually does at events (due to the age of our guests) and emphasized the importance of lowering the volume during the reception. Our guest(s) approached the DJ and requested the same. Unfortunately, the volume was too loud (for a couple of our guests), and they left. My mother-in-law was one of them.
It was important my guests enjoyed themselves and having to talk over the music after requesting it be lowered was a concern. If there were questions about their requests, I should've been approached to discuss the situation. None-the-less, a few of my guests left and complained to my husband about the volume.
Suggestion: The bags from your instrument and the DJ equipment were on the dance floor. One of my guests almost fell due to the placement of the bags, which were not folded or hidden. In the future, please ensure the bags are put in a safe place for the guests."
I emailed Matt, the owner, and he talked with Evan. He appreciated the feedback.
Evan was great about playing the introduction songs I requested, and created our introduction perfectly. I requested a couple different sounds and song to play, he sent me a copy, and it was perfect! I also gave him a music list with YouTube links to help him with some older songs our parents used to listen to. He even picked a Polka dance for me and my Hubby to dance to. My bridesmaid (Ukrainian) had to come in and take over. Apparently, my Polish husband wasn't going fast enough. We did have an open bar, if you catch my drift.
The sax was my favorite part of the night. I think if there could've been more sax playing, along with DJ'ing, it would have been better especially with a small wedding and venue, and older people. The younger crowd (there were about 15-20) enjoyed the music and danced a lot. If the music was lower, it wouldn't have affected them because they were close to the speakers.
Other than the volume and the bags, it was great!
Jason did a phenomenal job at our wedding, playing saxophone for cocktails and dinner and then DJ’ing the rest of the night. He was very professional and prepared. At our pre-wedding meeting he went over everything so thoroughly it gave me confidence in our music choices. The day of he arrived early, made sure to practice our names one last time before the entrance, and was flexible when little things changed on the fly. Guests complimented us on our music all night and I highly recommend!
Saxman Slim (Matt) was awesome to work with. He was very organized and communicative. He did a great job keeping the party flowing and reading the room. We got so many compliments on the saxophone playing. We recommend him to everyone!
Matt was the best for our wedding! From the ceremony thru the last song of the reception the music was great. All of our guests loved the intimate setting with saxophone played through dinner. He had all of our song selections ready to go for dancing after. He kept everyone moving all night and even joined us for a few dances.
Matt did an awesome job with our event on 7/25/21! He was very easy to work with right from the beginning. We postponed our event from September 2020 to July 2021, and it was a breeze to transfer the date. I don't live in NY anymore, so we had a pre-wedding celebration event meeting via FaceTIme, and all of our questions were asked. The day of, Matt absolutely nailed it. Our guests loved the sax music before/during the ceremony, and during cocktail hour. We gave a general guideline for music genres and a few "must play" songs. A couple times during open dancing, Matt expertly read the crowd and changed songs. Our guests raved about him all night long and in the days after our event. What we also loved is Matt got out there on the dance floor and had a good time, too. We would absolutely recommend him! 10/10!!
How do I write a review when SO many things were done incorrectly? Lawrence was the DJ for our July 17th wedding. I’ll start with how he messed up almost all of the introduction songs when our bridal party and ourselves were introduced. Or should I start with how he introduced us BY THE WRONG NAME? He called us “Mr. and Mrs. DiNoto” which is my maiden name. As we came out, confused as to why we were being introduced by the wrong name, we also realized he was playing the wrong song. We were supposed to be introduced to “Let’s get married” by jagged edge and then go right into our first dance. Nope. He skipped the introduction song and went right into the first dance song. We had discussed these details over zoom a couple of weeks before the wedding and even then he seemed confused about the bridal party coming out to different songs. I’m sorry but that right there should have been our red flag as that is a very common and modern thing to take place at a wedding. Those things ALONE might not make us so upset, but that’s just scratching the service. For the ceremony, he was supposed to play the saxophone while I walked down the isle, along to the tune “marry me” by train. Instead he just played the song. Additionally, he was supposed to play the saxophone during dinner, which he did not. Which meant that I did not get to hear him play at all since I wasn’t in the chapel while guests were being seated and then was busy taking photographs while he played for cocktail hour. Almost ALL the reviews for Saxman slim say they play during dinner. I was under that impression when we booked, but nope. No saxophone during dinner.
As if ANY of these things alone aren’t enough, he played some really slow songs and old school music that caused the dance floor to constantly empty. I had to tell him EACH song we wanted him to play. The only reason he gets two stars is because he played some older songs that we didn’t have on our list, and the older guests loved it. We did give him two lists of songs to play, and told him to read the room and do his thing as a DJ. However, the slow songs he was playing were not what he had in mind. I wish we would have requested one of the DJs mentioned by name in these reviews that did a wonderful job. Unfortunately we trusted the luck of the draw and were monumentally disappointed with what we received.
Saxman Slim is absolutely fantastic! He is extremely through in making sure what we wanted and didn't want. Beautiful sax music for our ceremony, cocktail hour, and dinner truly set the mood for the evening. When it came time for dancing he did an amazing job reading the floor and keeping people on all night. We had so many compliments throughout the night and after about how wonderful the music was.
We were so impressed with Saxman Slim, we had Jason and he did a phenomenal job. Playing all the songs we and our guests suggested. The saxophone playing during dinner and cocktail hour was amazing and we got so many compliments from our guests. He read the room and knew which songs to play next to keep everyone dancing!
The BEST. He played the perfect concoction of jams for everyone, plus his sax skills are incredible. THANK YOU!!!!! 10/10 recommend
His love music was amazing, has a little technical difficulty with the microphone but was great otherwise.
Matthew Tritto with Saxman Slim did an amazing job as our wedding DJ. He listened to what we wanted and kept the party going all night. Also, he is very talented with the saxophone and our guests loved the cocktail hour/dinner music. We would highly recommend him to anyone!
Sooo glad that we went with Saxman Slim for our wedding. All of our guests were blown away by the Saxophone playing and he kept people of all ages out on the dance floor all night for a great party. He also took the time to communicate with my parents to pull off a surprise flash mob (bride and groom had no idea). Thank you Saxman Slim for the amazing music provided!
When I first got engaged, the DJ was one of the first things we booked. You cannot go wrong with Saxman Slim. Steve was amazing to work with, from the first meeting to the end of the wedding checking to make sure we were happy. Have a song in mind? He will find it and make sure it is the exact version you want. The saxophone during the ceremony and the cocktail hour was just what we wanted. The sax adds such a great touch to the evening. When it came to the reception, he kept people on the dance floor all night! Can't say enough good things about Steve as Saxman Slim.
The best DJ!!! Everyone was talking about him. Between the sax music and his laid back vibe, he was super well-organized and just overall excellent.
Steve was awesome. He is an amazing sax player which everyone loved. He was also willing to play whatever we wanted. He was a great dj and reasonable.
My wife and I were extremely happy with the service and assistance that Steve provided during and before our wedding. He invited us to meet with him several weeks before the wedding to go over our music styles and interests. This meeting was a blast in of itself as he entertained us with his musical abilities both as a saxophone player and as a DJ. That helped us to be at ease knowing we truly had a talented musician.
Using the information he gathered during our meeting, he created an atmosphere that our guests appreciated and his music selection helped the whole thing be fun and enjoyable for both us and our guests. It was great how he went out of your way to ensure that we had fun. Thank you so much!
Steve's professionalism and expertise was wonderfully displayed throughout the whole process and we highly recommend Steve and the Saxman Slim team for any type of event. Again, thank you!
Saxman slim was INCREDIBLE! He traveled all the way to varysburg New York to help make our day so special. He is definitely an expert when it comes to knowing which music to play for your guests and is an amazing sax player. We couldn't have chose a better dj for our special day. Thank you Matt!
DJ Saxman Slim was exceptional -- guests were raving about him long after the wedding! He provided live saxophone music throughout the duration of the outdoor ceremony, during cocktail hour, and during dinner. Afterwards, he transitioned into a DJ and played our requested hits all night long. He made the planning process incredibly easy. He provided us with a planning sheet, which we filled out with all our ceremony song preferences, first dance songs, and other song requests. We met with him about two weeks before the event to go over the details. A great experience!
We first saw Saxman Slim's work at a family wedding and absolutely loved the energy he brought to the event. When it came time to choose the musician and DJ for our own wedding, we couldn't believe how affordable and comprehensive his services were. Matt was friendly and attentive in all of our communication prior to the wedding. Because we live out of town, he spent an hour with us on Skype a few weeks before the wedding, going over every detail of the reception timeline and confirming that all the music was correct.
He asked for a detailed schedule of the evening, but we gave him free rein to choose all of the dance music for the reception. He was great at reading the crowd and kept our guests dancing all night long - he even danced with us for some of the songs! We got so many compliments on the music choices and the DJ's energy - we would gladly use Saxman Slim again!
Saxman Slim is great on the saxophone! The music added just the right touch to the atmosphere of our wedding ceremony and dinner! The music played for dancing was great! Everyone loved all of it, especially the sax playing!!
Saxman slim kept the dance floor full! His music before dancing was amazing! and he is so personable. On top of that he is so reasonable. I recommend him to everyone!!
We had Matthew from Saxman and everyone loved the DJ. Everyone but my husband who had made particular must play titles that were not played. Saxman stayed away from the do not plays but also skipped a lot of the must plays. We also requested a music change later in the evening to make it more younger adult friendly and that didn't really happen either. It seems that Saxman has a good routine but it seems like a routine...the songs we picked to be different were not played so it had an overall appeal for people...the songs played weren't bad or anything just not what we really wanted. It was decent for mainstream though
I found Saxman Slim online and was attracted to the fact that he did both live Saxophone (for cocktail and dinner hours) and then switches to DJ services for the remainder of the evening. We went to see him live playing the sax at a local restaurant and agreed he was great.
At the wedding, I did think he did a great job playing the saxophone. Good selection, not too loud or overbearing so everyone could still talk and enjoy themselves.
However, when the DJing started, I was not as impressed. I think it is partially due to his age, he is a little older and probably not "hip" to the newer music and styles of a younger generation. He also gave me a look like I shot his dog when I gave him the "no play list" with things like YMCA and Celebrate on it. We just thought those things are played out and not our style. I asked him to please just nod and smile if someone asked for one of those songs and "not get to it." I also told him if there was some barrage of requests for one song, he could come discuss it with me and perhaps we would play it if that's what our guests wanted. This was not followed. Instead, he directed guests to me to beg me to let him play things, detracting from my evening and experience. I had also given him a list of songs we must hear, and a list we would like to hear if he can work them in. Several of the musts werent played, a couple of the songs that share titles with other songs in another genre were played instead of the correct song (even though I gave him artist and title information on everything). He started playing Montell Jordan's "this is how we do it" to which i had to turn around and give a thumbs down and cutthroat to get him to stop! Was it on my "no play list?" No? Is it from this decade? No. Its almost 20 years old and not cool enough to call a "classic." I felt a little like that themed the night, and he was stuck in the 90s. He was good value for the money though, I suppose, and he is very good on the Saxophone. If you like the cheesy, played out wedding DJ songs, you will probably feel like you hit the trifecta, but if you want a more modern feel, you might want to look around and pay a bit more.
Sax Man Slim played the saxophone during cocktail hour and dinner and then later transformed into a DJ. He sax skills were great and perfect for our reception setting. In addition, he played most of the "must play" songs that we had sent him ahead of time!
We were really excited to use Saxman Slim at our wedding after seeing Matt play t our friends wedding. However, our experience has been quite different and we are less than satisfied. This is nothing personal against Steve, he is a very nice person but we were not happy with him as our DJ.
To start we had given him a very detailed list of music suggestions to play as we found out we were on different pages for music taste. At our ceremony, while our guests were being seated I could hear him playing inspector gadget - that is not appropriate for a wedding. Additionally his timing was off. After the wedding party had walked up and was waiting, I was standing at the end of the aisle waiting for him to transition to bride's song for at least 30 seconds. After being announced at the end of the ceremony, he was delayed in playing our recessional song and we had to stand there awkwardly waiting to leave the ceremony. Next our introductions into the reception when we walked out and were ready to do our first dance, he wasn't paying attention as we were all standing there waiting for the song to end and he played the song for another 1-2 minutes. During the reception is my biggest complaint...To start he only had prepared enough music to play til 9:30 when our reception goes until midnight. We had to ask all of our guests to go request music in order to have enough to cover the reception. That is not our job. Second, multiple times (at least 6) during the dancing, the music stopped abruptly and we were all left standing in silence on the dance floor. And we personally had to go over to him and his computer to see what the problem was and help him. To continue, towards the end of the reception when it is mostly dancing, he kept throwing in slow songs and everyone would stop dancing and leave the dance floor. He kept ruining the flow. We had told him several times to stop playing slow songs but he did not listen. Overall it was a lot of added stress for us at the wedding.
Best DJ around!!!!
my groom and i really wanted to do something special for our first dance, steve went above and beyond to edit our tune to make it perfect during our first visit in his studio. he was great with some of our choices not being in his library of songs and added them to accomadate. we will use their service again!
We had Saxman slim come in and do our Cocktail hour outside on the upper deck of Templeton Landing. He was amazing and the hit of the party. Everyone raved about him and wished the cocktail hour lasted longer. The best part they were able to accommodate us last minute and were very professional , organized and FUN! I HIGHLY recommend them to any and EVERYONE!
Our DJ, Steve, one of the Saxman Slim saxaphonests, was amazing! He was very accommodating, found all of the songs we put on our "please play" list, and did a really good job reading the crowd and playing songs that they were getting into. He played a great mix of current songs, as well as Big Band stuff that the older crowd really enjoyed. Having the sax during our cocktail hour and dinner made our wedding stand out, since it was a little "out-of-the-ordinary", which really helped make our day memorable. We were really happy we went with Steve!
He made it very personal and played all great songs!
Saxman Slim was fantastic. Many compliments throughout the night on our DJ selection. Highly recommended.
Saxman Slim (Matt) is super great! He plays the sax (we had him do our ceremony music too) for the ceremony and cocktail hour then turns into a DJ for the rest of the night. He is awesome on the sax. And for anyone who might think, ick I don't want to hear a bunch of jazz stuff for an hour, he plays current hits and what not, just on the sax instead. It sounds awesome and it made our wedding so fun and unique! His music selections for the reception were great, we had a pretty full dance floor most of the night and it seemed like everyone had fun. He kept things on schedule too... I have been to weddings where they forgot to cut the cake; I have also been to weddings where the wedding party's names are mispronounced. He did neither and was quite thorough when we met with him to discuss the wedding beforehand. I also thought his pricing was quite reasonable.
