We got married in November 2024 and had our reception at Shelby Gardens. The staff was very professional, great with communication, and easy to work with. They were always there to answer our questions. They provide many options to accommodate any type or size of wedding reception. The food was delicious! I would definitely recommend this venue. Great value for the price.

Shelby Gardens was pretty nice & average. The food was decent, and the place was clean. We had our reception in the Medi. room. I liked that one the best, it seemed to be the most modern. They do nickel and dime you over everything- getting and additional table the day off out of the hall with a linen cost $30, we practically had to beg for 2 pieces of saran wrap for our dessert tray. The prices we were quoted for the potato anna changed from the tasting to the booking. It just seems weird how some things are done. They save money by not heating the place- the bathrooms were freezing the day of the wedding. I guess I wouldn't ultimately recommend this place. Its nice, but not really worth the price. The food was pretty good, my guests thought it was good too, but they ran out of food, and didn't replace it. We paid for the platinum package, which comes with a better meat, they ran out and replaced it with a cheaper meat- which didn't seem right to me. The bartender seemed kind of confused on what she was doing, although very sweet. Rachel was great to work with, and very helpful. I'd rate this place average. It'd be a great place for a work party, but not a wedding.

Accordingly, we are sorry you did not have the desired experience and would like the opportunity to address your review.
1. “…our reception in the Medi. room. I liked that one the best, it seemed to be the most modern.”
a. The Mediterranean Ballroom was the first one we remodeled in 2014.
2. “They do nickel and dime you over everything- getting and additional table the day off out of the hall with a linen cost $30,”
a. The only items you were charged extra for were the Potatoes Anna and the table & linen you added on the day of your event.
i. Regarding the table & linen: When you add items a la cart, you will pay more than the items in a package. This is standard across all industries. You removed one of our hallway tables and “added” it to your room without asking. When you then asked us to cover it with a linen, you were told the price to add the table and linen – you agreed to it. You did have the option at your “Final Details” meeting to add tables and you chose not to.
ii. The Potatoes Anna: “potato anna changed from the tasting to the booking.”
1. Our price to upgrade in your package to Potatoes Anna was $3.15 for the entirety of 2024. At your Final Details meeting on November 30 you insisted “someone” at the Food Tasting event on March 23rd told you it was only $1.00. Rachel took it upon herself to compromise with you and only charged $2.15.
iii. You also took some of our (Shelby Gardens) Christmas decorations out of our lobby and used them as decorations in your room without asking or even telling us. We did not charge you for this.
3. “we practically had to beg for 2 pieces of saran wrap for our dessert tray.”
a. The office lady that was asked for the saran wrap went immediately to the kitchen when asked, and provided the saran wrap to the person who asked for it as requested. There was no hesitation on her part. FYI – we are not responsible for your desserts including what you wrap it in.
4. “They save money by not heating the place- the bathrooms were freezing the day of the wedding”
a. Your event room was well heated. In fact, as the temperature outside was in the low to mid 30’s that evening, when your guests were dancing, we had to turn on our air conditioners to cool down the room.
b. The upper level, front bathrooms are on an outside wall. In the ladies' room we have a small extra heater that, when needed, is turned on to help heat that room. If it was not on that evening, yet it was needed, we do apologize if anyone was uncomfortable. It was not brought to our attention that evening or we would certainly have addressed it.
5. “…they ran out of food, and didn't replace it.”
a. As with all buffets, as the pans ran down, more was brought out. Only one pan ran out but was replaced – see 5.b.
b. “platinum package, which comes with a better meat, they ran out and replaced it with a cheaper meat”
i. This was our mistake. The original meat did run out and was replaced with another option from the same menu. I spoke to the Father of the Groom at the time (he was at the buffet getting seconds when this occurred) and he said it was “fine – it’s all good”. I believed at that time all was ok.

ii. We have subsequently removed that item from our “buffet” service as it is hard to anticipate the popularity of it.
6. “The bartender seemed kind of confused on what she was doing”
a. The bartender you had is one of the best. Her confusion came in at the beginning when you brought in several mixing items (approved by our management) – we do not usually allow this. Once that was straightened out, she was fine. We have used her dozens of times and have never had any complaints regarding her service.
7. “It'd be a great place for a work party, but not a wedding”
a. We hold over 100 wedding receptions per year. As our > 4-star average would indicate, we typically do a stellar job.
I find it disheartening that, instead of contacting management to come to an understanding and equitable conclusion, you found it necessary to attack us and attempt to hurt our business. Had you contacted me, I would most likely have waived the $30.00 and turned on the heater in the bathroom. Regarding the meat issue, I would have made some sort of financial consideration.
As we still would like to help you remember your wedding reception in a better light, I am offering you $200.00 or 10% off (pre-tax total) your next event with us, should you choose to give us another chance.

We hosted a company event for 200 people at Shelby Gardens last week and it was great! Rachel was easy to work with and the event went off without a hitch. The food was delicious, the staff was quick and courteous and the event space was perfect for our Casino Party.

I really loved the price of this venue, it’s very affordable and there aren’t too many “gotcha” fees they try to slap you with. Some customer service, particularly Rachael, was OUTSTANDING. Unfortunately some was less than stellar. We had some concerns about how information was inconsistent, and how our wedding cake was thrown out. We tried to address this, and were told multiple different stories by multiple employees. This was never resolved, and they did not contact us further despite saying they would do so. The food was great, and our guests said it was the best they’d ever had. The upstairs rooms are beautiful, but the downstairs are lacking. I was grateful to be accommodated into a upstairs room. I also rented the bridal suite. It was too expensive and cramped for HMUA team unfortunately.

I am very happy we decided to use Shelby gardens for our wedding reception. They bent over backwards for us and made sure we were extremely happy. I probably called Rachel every other day to change or fix something and she helped every single time. The beer selection was important to my husband and they ordered special beer for us and apparently had an extra one for when we ran out(it probably wasn't for us, but it was nice that it was there for when we ran out). They made sure the night of that everything was going well. Such a beautiful venue as well. Everything was fantastic!!!

Shelby Gardens was a good reception venue for the price. The bartender was SUPER friendly and nice, and the wait staff were respectful to our guests. My disappointment was their lack of hospitality the week or two before the wedding -- they were not as nice and flexible as when we first booked them. We were also unaware that we had to have EVERYTHING gone 30 minutes after the end time (midnight) -- we had zero assistance from the wait staff, we collected all of our chargers with lettuce and dressing and food all over them (they would not rinse them off); overall you get what you pay for.

alk about the removal of your decor and centerpieces, that would include your charges. Our staff does not help with the removal of those due to liability concerns. We would never want to break or damage your decorations and unless prearranged we don't like to handle the things brought in by clients. We definitely try to be as accommodating as possible in all circumstances though and I apologize if this wasn't explained/discussed and that you had been blindsided with this information. I still hope that your night was all you dreamed it to be and I thank you for your feedback. All I can say is HOORAY!!! There is nothing more scary to a bride than putting all your trust into a vendor to make your "best day ever", everything you had envisioned. But let me tell you, Shelby Gardens staff hit it out of the park! From day one, we fell in love with the location, the fresh modern look, and the helpfulness of the staff. The newly remodeled banquet hall and uplighting made our guests in awe of the look of our reception. The only downfall I would say is that you do have to pay to taste test the food which I was kind of bummed about but, in the end, it was totally worth it. The food was so flavorful and delicious. The drinks were perfectly made (you know how sometimes you go to weddings and it's mostly the mixer with a splash of alcohol? Not here!). Rachel was very responsive to my emails and last minute changes which helped put my mind at ease. We put a lot of time, money and effort into making our day great and I was so thankful to have that effort and quality reciprocated from our banquet hall.

I had my reception here Feb 2018. Everything went very smoothly. Despite having other halls in the building, I felt like mine was the only event.
Pros:
-The remodel is gorgeous and everything looked good.
-Everyone raved about the food. It was very delicious.
-I was able to set up a couple days before which was just amazing stress wise.
-They provided everything I could possibly think of. Before buying something, I would make sure they don't already provide it. For example: they had an easel I could borrow and tables provided for everything.
-They let me make the floor plan however I wanted and they were extremely accommodating in making sure it was how I wanted it.
-The drinks were very good, not watered down at all.
-I did my own centerpieces and they let me come in and set up a mock table so I could see how it looked before I bought a bunch of stuff that doesn't go together.
-Everyone is very nice there.
Just overall an extremely positive experience.
Very few cons
Cons:
-A couple of the things that we spoke about in the meeting before the wedding were absent the day of such as plates by the cupcakes, but it honestly didn't impact the day of very much.
-The chef choice appetizer was very odd. Retrospectively, I would have paid more money to choose.
Not necessarily a con, but just something to keep in mind: they do not do food tastings as frequently as other halls, so you are going to want to make sure you make it to one.

I had my wedding shower and wedding reception there this year and everything was wonderful! Martin, the owner really made sure everything was exactly how we wanted and answered all questions we had. We had all our wedding guests tell us how wonderful the food and everything was!

Was just there for a wedding! BEAUTIFUL!! The food was amazing and the drinks were wonderful! I can't say enough about the waitstaff, so helpful and kind. I highly recommend this venue for any type of gathering. They are truly there to make your day special! ( that's hard to find)

Everything up the day of the wedding was great. They were very helpful and nice. The day of wedding the venue coordinator Tricia had a disagreement with my dj. She was rude and disrespectful to him. Instead of trying to find a solution she insisted he move his exquipment an hour before the wedding. Also the bartender was very rude to many of my guests including my husband. He also did not know how to make any drinks.
Very disappointing to hear when we spent a lot of money booking them.

The staff all in all was pretty great, I know they are going through a turnover, so that may be part of why we met with so many different people.
The menus changed in our 10 month engagement but they worked with us.
Napkins are extra if you want them to be anything but white, and they don't provide sashes, you'd have to buy or rent from a third party vendor.
They allowed us to bring in some special liquors for the MOG and Bride, but if they are open, you can't take them from venue.
All in all, I was very happy here and I would use them again.

We have definitely changed some of our policies based on feedback from our clients and one of our wedding specials now includes colored napkins and sashes ;) We are always trying to learn and evolve with the ever changing industry of weddings.
