Planning an Indian wedding in Chicago — with 700 to 1,000 guests — felt overwhelming at first. We knew we needed a venue that wasn’t just beautiful, but one that truly understood t...
he scale, the culture, and the heart behind a celebration like ours. After searching everywhere, we found the Sheraton Grand on the River… and it ended up being everything we hoped for and more.
From the moment we walked in, we felt supported. Vince was one of the first people we worked with, and he made such a difference. When we ran into a small issue with our room blocks, he handled it with so much kindness and patience. It wasn’t just “good service” — it felt like someone genuinely looking out for us during one of the most stressful parts of planning.
Behind the scenes, Lisa was our quiet hero. Coordinating with third‑party vendors — especially our own caterers — can be complicated, but she managed it all seamlessly. Knowing she was on top of every detail gave us so much peace of mind. We never had to worry about whether things were being handled; she made sure everything just worked.
The venue itself was magical. We split our reception into a cocktail hour and a sit‑down dinner, and the flow couldn’t have been more perfect. The Riverwalk during Labor Day weekend felt like something out of a movie — the views, the energy, the breeze off the water. It created such a joyful start to the evening. And when we stepped into the reception hall… it took our breath away. With the décor in place, it felt grand, elegant, and full of warmth. Our guests couldn’t stop talking about how beautiful everything looked.
Looking back, choosing the Sheraton Grand was one of the best decisions we made. They didn’t just give us a venue — they gave us a team that cared, a space that elevated our traditions, and a wedding day we’ll remember for the rest of our lives.
Arranging the room block at the Sheraton was great, my guests had minimal issues booking on the website but when I spoke to our block coordinator she was able to fix the issues rig...
ht away. The hotel is nice but check in for my family any guests was terrible. We had no many problems, you would think this was the staff's first day on the job. I began my wedding weekend crying to the front desk attendant and was then given 3 more attendants to talk to, none of which could actually figure out what was going on. They blamed the issues on "a lot of guests having the same name". Yes of course they have the same name, this is a wedding and half the people attending have the same last name being that they are FAMILY. I would not recommend staying here or using it for your wedding block. The service received was incredibly poor.
I would like to start by saying that my experience before our arrival was good. The sales reps that I dealt with were very helpful. When we arrived, it was like we had ended up i...
n a different hotel. The lobby & other public areas are beautiful. But the rooms are slowly being upgraded and definitely do not reflect the 4 star rating. Our room block was not well organized. Many guests were moved to different rooms several times, some guests were overcharged, the suite that my fiance & I reserved was not the one that had been explained to us (it was very nice, but lacked the amenities we had thought we were getting & had been the reason we chose that particular suite), etc. My mother in law bought breakfast vouchers for all the guests in our wedding, but she was shorted vouchers and then told she must have lost them. Then they charged me for the vouchers instead of her even though I never authorized those charges. The bell desk, reception, and concierge had no record of our wedding & were clueless when guests asked where the shuttle was to our ceremony or anything else about our wedding. These were all details that had been reviewed with the reps and apparently weren't communicated with the staff at the hotel. I actually couldn't sleep the night before the wedding so I went to the desk to speak with someone about some of the issues. They were very dismissive and rude. They offered no apology for any of the problems and I left feeling embarrassed that I had chosen to have our guests stay in the hotel. I would definitely warn others that the level of service you receive prior to arrival is not the service you will receive when you arrive.
The Sheraton was one of only 3 hotels in all of downtown Chicago (I probably emailed 40-50) that would give me a block of rooms on my wedding weekend, due to a major conference bei...
ng in town. Props to them for that.
Because they are so large, there was quite a bit of disorganization and lack of communication between staff though. The actual contacts for me and my block were great, quick responses and very accommodating. The problem came in with reservations though, I had multiple guests that were turned away and told the block was full when it was no where near full. That was frustrating and added a lot of work for me.
It's also pricey- they offered $189 a night + fees & taxes, but hey, it's downtown Chicago. They did offer a suite for the groom and I at the same block price, which was very nice, and had champagne and chocolate covered strawberries in our room on our wedding night. That was lovely.
I had Brooke from the Sheraton as my Wedding Coordinator and she was amazing! The entire staff was extremely helpful and the reception was perfect!
