My husband and I went to Social Sport Dance Club for our wedding dance in 2021. We wanted to ease some of the stress of our first dance and elevate it beyond the middle school shuffle we were bound to do with our nonexistent dance skills. Enter Social Sport Dance Club!
We contacted the club and were set up with a free in-person consultation with one of the dance instructors to talk about our wedding, what we were looking for in a dance, and get an idea of what services may work well for us. We were told that beginners (aka us!) should plan to start lessons 4-6 months prior to the wedding date, which allows time to pick a dance matching the song, learn the basics of the dance, figure out a general routine/flow, and learn how to communicate with each other on the dance floor.
The whole process was easy. Basically, just one phone call to set up an initial appointment and then a weekly dance session lasting around an hour.
The private dance lessons were priceless for my fiancé and me. We were partnered with Mary as our dance instructor. She was excellent at seeing things we were doing that did not translate well to dancing together and provided suggestions, advice, guidance, and reassurance throughout the process.
Learning to dance is truly a skill and it’s not something that can be taught overnight, especially how to dance with a partner. Having constant positive support and a professional that can help navigate misunderstandings on the dance floor is critical.
In addition, the Social Sport Dance Club professional instructors were able to see potential issues we never would have thought of. For instance, have you ever considered how hard it would be to walk backwards wearing a floor length poofy gown and heels without falling? Or if in a suit, how you may not be able to easily lift your arms above your head while wearing a jacket? Neither had we! My fiancé and I were encouraged to wear our wedding day shoes and clothing that mimicked the actual wedding day attire for lessons to get used to it. Game changer!
Overall, I cannot recommend Social Sport Dance Club enough. Our wedding dance was flawless, and I personally felt confident and beautiful during the first dance with my husband. My husband and I had such a positive wedding dance experience that we came back after our wedding and became students at Social Sport. While dancing there over the past 3 years, we have had the privilege of taking lessons with every teacher, learned multiple dances, and we now dance multiple times a week with other people. It is a fun, positive environment filled with other people that just want to have fun dancing and to look good while doing it.
While the process of learning to dance can be difficult, Social Sport makes it a fun experience. Every teacher there is incredibly knowledgeable on the dance form, style, and how to teach things in different ways to different people. There is versatility to the Social Sport method that makes it fun and easy to learn skills that build slowly over time. Things start to click and then one day you are officially a dancer.
If you want to look good during your first wedding dance, or if you just want to learn how to dance in general, give Social Sport Dance Club a try. It is a wonderful experience that provides you with a skill that can be used again and again!
