I normally don’t write reviews, but I felt the need for this.
I’m the bride of a 2023 wedding in early September.
The barn, chapel, groomsmen lounge, and cottage are all breathtaking. It was the perfect “image” I was looking for on my wedding day. We rented the venue from Friday-Sunday.
On Friday when we arrived for rehearsal, we were told all tables and chairs would be put up and ready to decorate, as they gave us a max time of 5-9pm to set up and practice rehearsal. The owner did not communicate with the employees how many to set up, so we had to dip into our “rehearsal time”, to put everything up to be on time for dinner. As it ended up working out, everything was rushed and not well planned. This added more unneeded stress.
On Saturday (the wedding day), we were told Stone Hill employees would be available to open the doors to the chapel (for the ceremony) and to the barn (for the reception), as we did our grand entrance. I specifically asked multiple times to ensure this would be covered to make sure I didn’t need to ask anyone else to do this. They were able to make the ceremony on time, but when it came to the reception they were no where to be found. Our CATERING company offered to step in and help open the doors for our grand entrance. (When Pigs Fly). They saved the day!
During the reception, we had multiple guests complain about the heat (inside the barn). We asked the Stone Hill employees multiple times to turn the AC down from 75 degrees and they wouldn’t budge. After paying 7k for a venue, you’d think they could accommodate for a few hours of cooler AC on a 100 degree day.
**When the reception was over, the Stone Hill employees were cleaning up tables/chairs and I went to check if they needed anything before heading inside the cottage for bed. The owner did not communicate with the employees that we were staying at the venue Saturday night (even though our contract was from Friday-Sunday), and the employees were planning on staying at the cottage that night as well. So on our wedding night, we had to debate who was leaving to go stay in a hotel since this was not communicated along with many other things. We offered to Uber to a hotel (as we had both been drinking a little) and the employees were nice enough to offer going themselves so we could stay in the cottage.
The venue was beautiful, however the communicate was poor and it added a lot of unnecessary stress to our big day.
If you’re planning to have your wedding here, I would recommend planning everything without including the employees as they are not prepared to assist properly.
I would like to add that the employees were VERY NICE, respectful, people.
I’m not sure where the communicate was lost, but that did not interfere with their kindness.
One year down!! Was looking thru my wedding photos and wanted to post that still one year later we are so happy we picked Stone Hill! My pics are timeless and amazing. Looking thru them reminded me of how much fun we had. First, venue is beautiful! Second, house ❤️! Highly recommend this venue!!
My husband and I had our wedding at Stone Hill Barn and it was amazing. We absolutely loved the stunning land the barn was built on, the barn was clean and well kept, the cottage was cozy and comfortable, and overall it was very romantic. We even stayed at the cottage again for a mini getaway in July of 2017! I can't say enough good things about the staff either. The owners and staff are easy to work with, they are really friendly people. They made sure we were happy with our event, and were very good at explaining the contract. We felt they were very fair and reasonable. I would recommend Stone Hill Barn to anyone looking for an amazing wedding experience!
Any questions?
This venue is just what the Wichita Kansas area needed! It is by far the best barn venue and where my husband and I decided to get married.
Our day was perfect :) The staff and management helped so much with making sure our needs were attended to and everything ran smoothly. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone looking!
First of all the contract states we have the venue until midnight but they told the bartender to do last call for alcohol at 9 and kicked everyone out at 10:30 (the dance floor was full). I had the next day to clean up so I'm not sure why the dancing/party couldn't go on until at least 11:20. In the contract it states no switching dates and about a year from my wedding Wade called me and asked if I would switch my date because some lady kept bothering him and wanted it. I can only think that she was offering quite a bit more money. I really wish I would of told him let her have it and I'll find a new venue. I felt like (and also had comments from guests) that Gary the worker out there was babysitting us and standing in the back watching our every move. I also found out he called the owner for every little thing that he didn't like. My friends like to drink and dance and apparently that isn't okay because he told my mother-in-law that we were the second worst wedding they've had out there. We rented the wreaths for the door but Gary refused to hang them because people steal the string, thankfully my husband had wire and him and my dad hung them. He also was rude to my coordinator complaining he had to take out the trash. I looked through the contract and there isn't anything in there that says we are supposed to do that. Around 10:30 Gary started to slam chairs onto the table and tell people he was ready to go to bed. I talked to Wade and he told me he thinks Gary was having a bad day as well as not getting along with my father-in-law (Wade did say he would talk to Gary and hopefully future weddings he won't be so uptight). I understand people have bad days but don't take it out on my wedding day. There was a fight at the end of the night in the parking lot after he had already kicked everyone out that had nothing to do with the party. It was a wrong time wrong place, miscommunication, and attitudes that happened out there. There was also no lights on the pathway to the parking lot and when I asked Wade about it he said another wedding ruined them, I think they should of been replaced right away especially since it is gravel and hard to walk on. Overall if you like the party and dancing atmosphere I wouldn't have your wedding here. I paid way too much money for everyone to be kicked out at 10:30
Had my wedding last summer. It was amazing! Owners were so nice and helpful. Gave me lots of ideas for set up. Barn is huge and AC was so nice to have. My pics were super beautiful. Staff was awesome. Cost was actually good compared to other venues and what you get is super! Only downside was I rented a one day and I wish we would have done the whole weekend because the house was so cool! Closest place we could find other than Kansas City to get this cool of a venue!!! So happy😍😍😍
Friend got married there and I planned her wedding. So amazing!! Beautiful barn, amazing house, best people to work with. Owners were super easy to work with! Didn't have any issues, but they had great staff who made sure everything was in order. Will be having my wedding there!
I got married here and it was a nightmare! At first, they were very nice and hospitable. The week of the wedding is when it all went down the drain. They started charging us for stuff that was never initially disclosed to us. When it came down to it, I couldn't do anything but pay it, because you can't move your wedding with 400 people attending the reception to another place the week of! They told us that we could decorate the day before and then later said that we had to pay $75 an hour in order to decorate. They initially told us the lights hung up were included and then came back to tell us that they were an extra $275.
After our reception, they told us the next day that someone drove through the yard and messed up the sprinkler system. We stayed in the cottage over night and I'm sure I would've noticed tire marks in the yard! When I asked for pictures to prove it, they couldn't provide any.
They also told us that we messed up their sewage system. When we were there decorating, their hired hand told us that it was previously messed up so if we had any troubles to let him know. When I told them this, they dropped that comment immediately.
They wanted to correspond 100% by phone and I told them that I preferred to correspond via email. (I wanted to have documentation of everything they claimed). Once I asked to correspond via email, all of their accusations stopped and they immediately mailed our rent deposit check back.
I would stay away from this venue! It is very pretty but it is not ran well at all! They will try to charge you for stuff that isn't your fault!
