We had the most incredible experience having our wedding at the Abbey. It was a truly magical venue and the staff were incredibly helpful and accommodating. We got lucky with weather and got to use the outdoor space like we had hoped, but the indoor space was equally beautiful so it felt like there were really no bad options! The food, the atmosphere, the architecture were all amazing. We can’t recommend this venue enough, it was fantastic!
I just want to say how happy I am that we found the Abbey! I first sent a simple inquiry online as I did to many other locations, but I received a very quick and informative response that gave me so much important information about the venue. Not only that but Catherine immediately invited us to come and visit–which we promptly took her up on! I want to be transparent though. We were initially worried because we have seen a couple poor reviews about the Abbey and its management of weddings, but Catherine explained to me that there were a few management companies at fault. But now the actual owners handled things. And would you even believe that this Catherine, who was explaining things to me, is a new employee! She isn't the same one as I read about in the reviews! All of this immediately reassured us. We even held Chatherine up with all of the questions! Her next appointment took it great though–we were all laughing about how desperate we were for a date here! But honestly, all of this goes beyond just our concerns. This was one of the most stunning venues we had ever visited, and there is certainly nothing like it in the area. I had heard that it was a pricy venue, but honestly, it’s pretty in line with others in the area. The other thing I loved about the Abbey was their rain plan! No matter the weather, we were guaranteed a beautiful spot for the ceremony. Catherine has sent us a fantastic proposal, and once we get the guest list down, we are absolutely gonna book! I am so happy that we took the chance on the Abbey and I really encourage every couple to check them out!!
We have been trying to finalize the details on a contract for an event with this vendor. I can hardly understand how they can stay in business. I have been trying to get a response from anybody in the event/sales department for the past 5 days, leaving multiple voicemails per day, sending email everyday- and I have not heard anything back. It makes me think that the person we have been dealing with, Tara, must have gotten fired or run off to join the circus. Extremely unprofessional. We have people who are flying in from overseas and from the west coast and we don’t have a finalized contract. One thing is for sure, I will never recommend this place to anyone. Beautiful building and location but appalling management. Buyer beware.
My husband and I booked our wedding at The Abbey Inn and Spa last May, initially with wonderful experiences because our coordinator Gina. However, everything went downhill after a management change. We were assigned Catherine, who was slow to respond to emails (sometimes taking a week!), caused unnecessary stress, and ultimately failed to deliver on basic wedding day needs.
Here's how The Abbey turned our dream into a nightmare:
Broken promises: Our contract clearly stated a room block release two months before the wedding, but Catherine backtracked, causing financial anxiety. Only after pointing out the agreement did she "honor" it, without an apology.
Unprofessionalism: Catherine refused to provide her phone number for emergencies on the wedding day – a major red flag.
Communication breakdowns: The venue created needless drama for my dancer, making it one of the "worst venues" she'd ever dealt with.
Pre-wedding chaos: Upon arrival, the bridal suite had a malfunctioning bathroom door and a leaky inflatable mattress – inhospitable beginnings.
Wedding day disaster:
Our room was infested with ants, adding stress to getting ready. We spent our morning battling bugs instead of relaxing.
A false fire alarm forced us to evacuate in our pajamas, wasting precious time for hair and makeup. Staff offered no help, and Catherine remained unreachable.
We paid for a wedding assistant, but she arrived late, inexperienced, and utterly unhelpful. We ended up relying on our friends for help.
Catherine showed a nonchalant attitude about the morning's chaos and never apologized.
DJ Disconnect: Catherine failed to inform the DJ it was time to start the ceremony, resulting in bridesmaids and groomsmen walking out to random music. Luckily, the DJ recovered for my entrance.
Vegan guests never received their specially requested appetizers.
Post-wedding insult: The leftover cake was thrown out, and despite offering a partial refund and a free dinner, the staff admitted they "forgot" about our wedding due to Mother's Day.
The Takeaway:
The Abbey clearly struggles to manage weddings, especially during holidays. Our experience was marred by constant communication issues, a lack of organization, and an overall sense of indifference. Avoid the stress and choose a venue that prioritizes your special day.
Final Note: We ultimately never took the Abbey's offer of a free stay and dinner, as the experience left us wanting nothing more than to distance ourselves from the venue.
We got married at The Abbey Inn on November 4th and it was a magical day! The grounds are stunning and unique from the moment you drive up the hill, and we received many compliments from our guests on the ceremony view, beautiful ballroom, delicious food, and great service. Leading up the the wedding, Catherine (director of sales) was friendly and accommodating with our many questions and requests. The week and day of the wedding, Briana (events manager) was an incredible partner: extremely organized, efficient, and helpful. She is a rock star who made sure the day ran smoothly and everyone was where they needed to be at all times. Nikita (director of food and beverage) was also very attentive to the menu and to our guests, ensuring everyone was happy and well-fed. This was the theme of the weekend- all of the friendly staff from front desk to the kitchen to housekeeping made sure we were happy and well taken care of at every moment! After visiting many Hudson Valley venues, we knew The Abbey would be perfect for us with an extra special personal touch, and we are so happy we held our wedding there!
Our wedding at The Abbey Inn and Spa was perfect and so special! The grounds are gorgeous, the hotel is beautiful and everyone working at the venue was kind, helpful and professional. Catherine was amazing throughout the process - always responsive and helpful and enthusiastic. And on the day of (and the week leading up to the event), Bri was fantastic. She anticipated everything needed and kept everyone on track and on time! Our guests are still talking about how much they enjoyed our wedding and the venue!
First, we’ll start by saying this: The Abbey is a breathtaking space to host your wedding. We couldn’t find anything like it in the Westchester and Hudson Valley area. Some of the hotel rooms have wonderful views of the Hudson River. The bridal suite is spectacular. The landscaping is impeccable. The Highlands Ballroom is a beauty. If you want the “wow” factor, this venue delivers. Our guests were absolutely taken by the venue. WITH ALL OF THAT SAID, my wife and I are VERY focused on the details. Had that not been the case, things would have fallen through the cracks.
IN SUMMARY: WE WOULD BE VERY HESITANT TO RESERVE THIS VENUE WITH THE CURRENT WEDDING COORDINATOR AND MANAGEMENT COMPANY.
A word of warning: Keep ALL versions of your contract. Date them and sign them as needed. Follow up every phone call with an email. Had it not been for us keeping all of our paperwork in order, The Abbey would’ve charged us a higher service fee, would not have provided all of the pasta options at the cocktail hour, would have charged more for upgrading the cake and upgrading the bar.
Big picture:
1. The wedding coordinator at the Abbey changed 3 times within a 12 month period. The new wedding coordinator, Catherine, only responds to emails not phone calls. Communication overall is much slower than the elevated experience one would expect from a venue of this caliber.
2. The current management company does not seem able (or willing) to manage the small details.
3. They switched the cocktail hour from the outdoor patio to the indoor corridor without notifying us, which was explicitly promised. We had key persons from our wedding party ready to answer real-time calls as needed throughout the day. They never received a call to give us the heads up about the cocktail hour change.
4. Throughout the planning process, we were assured The Abbey’s “synchronized service” would guarantee our guests the best dinner experience. This did not happen. Guests sitting within the same vicinity did not receive their meals at the same time. It made for a very confusing dining experience. My wife and I were served next to last.
5. The Abbey doesn’t offer a tasting menu. Instead, they host you for dinner at their restaurant to sample the food selection. This is great, the food is delicious BUT not the same as a tasting menu. The entrees served at the wedding were up to par. The salad served with dinner was NOT. Rather than the Hudson Valley salad served at the restaurant, the salad at the wedding was a disappointment. It was akin to a salad you’d find at a picnic buffet.
6. My mom has a strict gluten free diet. We made this very clear to The Abbey ahead of time (repeatedly). She has Celiac’s disease. When she received her meal, the waiter could not confirm with certainty that her meal was GF. This is not only a terrible disappointment, but quite dangerous.
Smaller details:
1. We served filet mignon as one of the entree options; yet steak knives were not provided to guests.
2. The cocktail hour plates were the size of tea cup saucers, which were awkwardly small.
Now for costs:
1. With a 25% service charge (which does not cover tax or tip), we expected impeccable service.
2. The service charge is placed on every expense. So if you upgrade the cake for $8 per person, please keep in mind that it is $8 plus 25% plus tax. So when choosing a package, remember to add a healthy buffer to cover all the other expenses. In our case, it resulted in an additional $100 per plate.
3. Charging $5 to place gift bags in the hotel guest room is just inconceivable. Let’s not forget, rooms at the Abbey average $500 per night; and some have a 2-night minimum.
In summary, we wish the service and Staff matched the service charge and beauty of the venue.
We hope you find this review helpful and have a blessed wedding planning experience.
I fell in love with the Abbey Inn at first sight after spending countless hours researching venues in the Hudson Valley online. It’s such a special place to us, we have only had amazing experience through the planning process all the way to the big day. When we first visited the venue, the general manager gave the loveliest tour of the gorgeous property with all of the history behind it. We had lunch at Apropos which completely won me over, I am a huge foodie and I knew I wanted my guest to have the same premier farm to table experience we had. While there were a couple changes in management during the 16 month wedding planning process, each point of contact was better than the next. Catherine was fantastic to work with, she was patient, kind and organized. I did not have a wedding planner so I am eternally grateful to her and the team for pulling off the best wedding ever. We went up to the Abbey Inn for our tasting 3 months before the wedding which was SO special and one of the most memorable days of our engagement. Again, the food completely WOW’ed us and my husband even chose one of their cocktails for his signature drink because it was so yummy! Catherine took us for a tour of the property and helped us to envision all the spaces for the big day, you can tell she is passionate about her work and actually cares for those she works with. She answered every single one of my questions with patience and put me at ease during a pretty stressful time. A couple weeks prior to the event, we were introduced to Briana, the events manager who would be helping to coordinate the day of the wedding. Little did I know at the time, she would my guardian angel for the ENTIRE weekend. We checked in on Friday night since we were having our rehearsal dinner at the Abbey as well. it was so wonderful to have the bridal suite which has a conjoining room. My husband and I were able to sleep in separate beds the night before to keep with tradition. The next morning, we transformed the bridal suite to a salon where all the girls got their hair and make up done. The guys got to enjoy lunch and hung out in the executive boardroom (one of my favorite spaces). Each event space in the Abbey is absolutely gorgeous and so special to us. I was super worried about the weather because we were planning for an outdoor ceremony and cocktail hour. Briana was totally on top of the weather and helped us to pivot to a fully indoor event at the very last minute, she really helped ease my anxiety about the entire situation. I was SO impressed with how her and and her team were able to pull off the pivot since we made the call on the day of the wedding. The entire day went off without a hitch, Briana was an absolute rockstar corralling my wedding party and dealing with the chaos which is my family! She was so on top of the timeline and made sure the event went as smooth as possible. As the bride, it’s such an intense day, I really appreciated her level of detail from coordinating my vendors all the way to making sure my dress was properly bustled. I seriously could not have asked for a better wedding coordinator. If there’s one reason to book this venue, it would be for the service!!! It was the most beautiful and memorable day of our lives, all thanks to the Abbey Inn.
We had our daughter’s wedding at the Abbey Inn Friday, September 8. Our first interactions were with the new management team that took over in January 2023. Communications with Catherine were challenging, while she always returned emails, just not in a timely fashion. It was impossible to reach her by phone. Maybe understandable at first due to the management transition, but response time never improved to meet expectations. Our overall impression was there was a lack of attention to detail with little sense of urgency. If you could reach the front desk by phone, there were times they couldn’t find the room block to book a reservation. Cancelled reservations weren’t recorded. Two deposits weren’t credited to the account correctly. Invoices were not sent as the client was tasked with keeping track of the deposit due dates.
In July, my husband and I met our daughter and fiancé at the Abbey Inn for our tasting. We were outraged when we discovered we were unable to see the ballroom as there was a VIP event utilizing the space. We could have easily chosen another date for our tasting and facility tour. The fact that we weren’t notified of this prior to our 3+ hour drive was unacceptable. We were given a tour around the facility and outdoor spaces. The Abbey Inn is a beautiful property with lovely well-manicured spaces and equally spectacular views over the Hudson. At the end of our tour, we were escorted to the Apropos restaurant for our tasting. We were handed menus for the wedding reception and dinner and left to order from the restaurant menu to get a sense of the quality and presentation of the food. No one reviewed the menu options with us, and we engaged our waiter for some advice given his tenure at the property.
After our meeting and with only 6 weeks until the wedding, it was obvious a wedding planner would be required. We hired Lauren from LCR Events who had experience working with the staff at the Abbey Inn. Hiring Lauren immediately reduced our stress level. She and her team mitigated numerous challenges prior to and including the day of the wedding.
The weather was unusually hot and humid the day prior to the wedding. Our daughter checked into the bridal suite and the air conditioning was not operating as the room temperature was 79 degrees. We spoke to the front desk personnel to report the problem. We followed up 1 ½ hours later as no one had come to check out the A/C. We were then informed the onsite facility person had gone home. After initially being told there were no additional rooms, the front desk personnel were able to secure another room for our daughter with functioning A/C.
The day of the wedding, my husband went to the front desk at 7am as the A/C in the bridal suite was still not operating properly. The maintenance person overheard my husband, and my husband suggested they go together to the suite to check the status of the A/C. It was determined that the filter was totally clogged, as it had not been changed for quite some time, which completely reduced the airflow. The issue was solved with a new air filter. In review, the problem was handled poorly, and required much of our time to resolve. On the night before her wedding, my daughter was inconvenienced by not being able to sleep in the bridal suite, after having set up the entire room.
On the afternoon of the wedding, due to challenging weather conditions, we had to consider moving the ceremony indoors. On very short notice, we were able to pivot and have the ceremony outdoors. The Abbey Inn personnel did a phenomenal job in pivoting, allowing the ceremony to proceed at the preferred outdoor location overlooking the Hudson.
Staff performed satisfactorily during the main event. The two bartenders were competent, but not very friendly to the guests. The food was very good and guests were impressed by such a lovely venue. It’s unfortunate that the level of service isn’t commensurate with what one would expect at such a venue. It’s clear that additional training is needed to bring the overall experience up to expected standards. Hopefully, the general manager and property owners will take notice and implement the necessary changes to ensure a top-tier event venue.
We were also caught in the change of management as Phyllis from the other review. I gave it two stars because many people worked hard at my daughter's wedding. But the new Director of Sales was awful. I sent a three page letter to the development company and the hotel manager but neither responded to me. The Director took it upon herself to empty our two cars of the items that were going to the church. I had told her everything else stayed. I spent a good amount of time on my daughter's wedding searching for items the Director moved. This happened because she didn't have a secure place for us to leave items. There was a wedding the night before ours and I was told we would have a place to leave things.
We and other guests were checked into dirty rooms, the final bill didn't add up and over a month later we received additional bills.
This venue is incredible but the management team needs an overhaul.
Warning to all prospective brides and grooms do not let this beautiful venue fool you this is a bait and switch venue. Book a wedding here at your own risk. My daughter in law saw this venue and fell in love with the georgous landscape and the many unique rooms for festivities. However once the contract was signed all those sales promises became a game of bait and switch. First the management changed between the time the contracts were signed and the wedding date. The new manager tried to change the terms of the original contract, first they raised the service fee then they wanted to add a credit card fee which again was in the contract without a fee. The manager was extremely hard to get in touch with and didn’t return emails to discuss wedding details. Sorry but when you are charging those prices for an event it is reasonable to expect the brides emails will be answered. Suddenly new fees started popping up. Such as, they were told they could use a room in the cellar for an after party but 3 weeks before the event they were told that wasn’t available and that they would be in the “middle” of dishwashing during the after party. Side note during the cocktail party they ran out of clean glasses I guess they were all being washed. Instead they had to pay an additional charge to use the main venue for the after party. This however wasn’t the worst of the additional charges originally they had a day after breakfast planned, but the room was undecided several options were had been available. The day of the wedding the grooms father went to ensure the breakfast was settled he was told they had to use the main venue room and another service charge. The bride was told in a email two days prior other specific rooms were available. When the bride heard about this the day of her wedding it upset her because one of the reasons they picked the venue was because of all the unique rooms available, she was told two days prior (in a written email) two other rooms options. Apparently in that 48 hour period the room the bride was offered had been booked for another event. Room charge aside, if they were going to book the room they should not have offered it two days prior or at least should have checked with the bride. The grooms father didn’t want the bride upset and attempted to get it resolved, in his attempt he raised his voice. Yes he yelled apparently there were other prospective clients in the main lobby where the discussion occurred who were also looking to book the venue in the future and he told them not to book it. The manager decided the best way to handle an upset father of the groom was to call the local authorities. Yep that’s right she called the police because the grooms father was upset, not violent just upset, she said he was cursing at guests. Multiple eye witnesses including several hotel employees who witnessed the event said he didn’t curse and there was no reason to call the authorities. The police came evaluated the situation and left. On the day of his sons wedding the manager felt she would “teach him a Lesson”. You call that customer service? Just so you know how it all worked out the breakfast went on the next day it was scheduled for 10am and although 50 guests were waiting, breakfast was almost ready at 10:20. It was missing several items that were ordered and paid extra to ensure but what was served was good, the food did run out but most guest were satisfied. The wedding did go off beautifully and there were so many hotel employees that were kind and accommodating outside of management. The venue was distinctive and georgous, but don’t be fooled by the time you get to your wedding day there are no do overs. It doesn’t matter what the sales team promised. What counts is what is actually delivered. If the management cares more about hooking the next client than satisfying their current customers, move on there are plenty of other venues, if you are paying six figures for a wedding and want your day to be perfect don’t book your event at the Abbey Inn and Spa.
I got married at the Abbey in Sept 2022. My husband works in the industry so we immediately knew which venues we’d rule out. Food was extremely important to us so once we ate at the restaurant we knew that the Abbey would be the right choice for us.
Planning:
Gina was amazing to work with throughout the planning process, and Casey made a seamless transition once Gina was no longer a member of their team. Casey and chef Jared were both incredibly responsive and a pleasure to work with, especially closer to the day of the wedding.
Day of:
On the day of, Casey was in contact with us throughout the day to ensure all went well. Dinner was amazing, cocktail hour was ok (would just recommend confirming what’s included as part of each of the tables and whether they are hot vs cold). I can’t comment on dessert (they only brought us out our cake slices) but our guests said everything was wonderful!
Can’t thank everyone on the Abbey team enough for making our day so special!
The most amazing venue without question for a romantic, intimate, classy wedding. The food, the staff, the extreme attention to detail are beyond compare. Look no further this is where you should have your wedding.
All I can say is WOW. The Abbey is the most incredibly spectacular place to have a wedding, and our wedding weekend could not have been more perfect in every single way. We held our rehearsal dinner, ceremony, reception, and farewell breakfast here and every single event was beautiful and absolutely flawless. Not only is The Abbey the most STUNNING place with unreal grounds and views of the Hudson, but the entire staff is so accommodating, pure class, and top notch. From Gilbert the general manager, Casey the wedding event coordinator, Matt the food & beverage manager, Tim at concierge, and all the many many other support staff - every single person was so easy to work with, kind, and truly made us feel so supported over the last 2 years of planning and made our weekend run perfectly and so smoothly. And the FOOD. This is not your typical wedding food - our guests cannot stop raving about how incredible the food was all weekend and how amazing the service was (from rehearsal dinner to breakfast the morning after the wedding). We still cannot get over how perfect every single detail of our wedding weekend was and how amazing everyone at The Abbey treated us and our guests. I can’t possibly imagine having our wedding weekend anywhere else, and I can’t wait to continue to visit this special place for many, MANY years to come!
Our Wedding was fabulous at The Abbey Inn and Spa. The Staff and Wedding Coordinator, Casey Butler, were amazing and so responsive!!! The venue is drop dead beautiful, the rooms are gorgeous, the food is delicious. There is nothing bad we could say.....we had a BLAST at our own wedding and got to enjoy our guests and food!
Thanks to The Abbey Inn and Spa for a memory we will never forget.
We loved everything about our wedding!! The food was outstanding and guests were in awe of the venue. Casey was essential in the day running smoothly and we can’t recommend the abbey enough!!
Our wedding at the Abbey Inn & Spa was incredible, the venue is stunning- from the perfectly manicured grounds, the view of the Hudson, and the beautiful interior of the ballroom. The bridal suite was fantastic, the porch was amazing and also the perfect spot to get ready. Our guests could not stop raving about the location and the food. Everything we had was excellent! Cocktail hour was also great- (order the arancini). They did a great job with the dinner service, and the wedding coordinator Casey made sure everything went smoothly and on time. Casey was lovely to work with and very organized. We also hosted our rehearsal dinner and farewell brunch here. We are so thankful the Abbey Inn was a part of our special day! We can’t wait to come back!
Everything about this venue was incredible, the views, the suite, and the staff. The day could not have been any better, and every guest we had only could compliment everything.
I honestly can’t even begin to describe how perfect the Abbey was for our wedding! The gorgeous grounds had us captivated from the moment we arrived. We had a mix of local guests and some guests traveling in from out of town, and everyone could not stop raving over how gorgeous it was. It’s the perfect mix of modern & historical elegance. The beautiful weather that day was the icing on the cake. The staff was incredibly accommodating. We had originally booked the venue with the prior contact, Eileen, and then when she retired a few months into planning I was nervous about working with someone new, but Gina stepped in seamlessly and she was there every step of the way. She truly went above and beyond to make sure everything was taken care of. When I found out Gina’s last day there would be a week before my wedding I almost had a heart attack, but she went out of her way to come back and be there on our big day to work the event and make sure everything ran smoothly. It was a huge relief, it blew me away to have such top notch service and honestly I couldn’t have asked for anything better. The rooms at the Inn are luxurious - we fell in love with the bridal suite with the beautiful spacious outdoor deck - and although the couple having their wedding the day after ours already had it booked for our wedding night, the staff allowed us to use the suite the morning of our wedding to get ready, and then they helped us move our belongings to another suite as we headed to the church, so that they could clean it for the next bride to check in. I am so glad we were able to do that, as the photos on the bridal suite terrace came out gorgeous and it gave the ladies plenty of room to spread out while hanging and getting ready! Along with the amazing service, the food was absolutely incredible. We had some picky eaters and everyone was impressed by the variety! From cocktail hour to the full 3 course dinner, everything was delicious. This is not your typical wedding venue mass produced food, everything is farm to table and the way the chef cooks it all is absolutely wonderful. Even the cake, which was done through the Abbey’s preferred bakery, was to die for- and we were able to do tiers of 2 different flavors at no additional cost. We cannot wait to go back for the complimentary night stay on our 1 year wedding anniversary (I don’t know of any other venues that offer that and it’s wonderful). But until then, I know we will be back many times to dine at Apropos! If you are considering booking the Abbey, go for it! You will not be disappointed!
Where do I even begin?! The Abbey was the absolute PERFECT choice for our wedding. I truly cannot say enough fabulous things about how special this location is and how amazing they were to work with for our special day. We held our rehearsal dinner, ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, after party, and brunch all at the Abbey in mid-June, and every single one was absolute perfection. Gina was a DREAM to work with -- I felt like we had our own personal wedding planner throughout the entire process. She answered all (and I mean ALL) of our emails, calls, questions, etc. and when I arrived at the Abbey for our wedding weekend I felt totally calm, cool, and collected knowing that Gina was running the show. And of course, there are no words to describe how beautiful and magical this property is both inside and out! Most of our guests stayed at the hotel so we were all able to really take advantage of the property throughout the weekend and every single staff member made us and our family and friends feel special and welcomed. The food was amazing, everything was well organized, coordinated, and beautiful... what more can I say?! I am so grateful we found a place where we could really build an entire weekend, and I am even more grateful that the Abbey helped us to coordinate it all as seamlessly as they did! I can't wait to go back and visit our special place for many many years to come!
I held a reception only event at The Abbey on July 9th. Gina was absolutely AMAZING to work with. She was collaborative, responsive, and able to accommodate all the requests that we have. I had a lot of questions - and she was very patient, prioritizing my happiness on comfort. On the day of, she was super calm, collected and made sure that everything ran smoothly in the background. She even helped set up the tables and made sure that everything looked amazing. Joe, the F&B director was also wonderful. It turned out that there was some miscommunication with the bartenders and they wrapped up earlier than we had planned, so Joe himself went behind the bar to make sure that we and all our guests had drinks. He really wanted to make sure that we had a good time. The venue itself is SO beautiful. I highly recommend that everybody book your event at the abbey inn!!
The Abbey was an amazing for our wedding and if I could convince you if you're maybe about going here I would encourage you to say yes!
Everything was hands on and handled precisely and personally. Gina was amazing for answering all of our questions and finding solutions for anything we brought up. Both of the other managers the "Joes" were amazing on the time leading up and day of making sure everything ran smoothly.
Our guests throughout the night and afterwards raved of how great the food was and how beautiful the venue was. The natural lighting throughout the venue and for the ceremony made it a spectacular view throughout!
I would highly encourage booking here and allowing the abbey to lead you through a smooth wedding!
The Abbey Inn & Spa is a dream wedding venue! We fell in love with it when we 1st visited. The whole venue is beautiful, the food is great, and the staff is amazing. Gina answered all of our emails and worked with us for a year and a half to plan our perfect wedding day. This place is beautiful and we couldn't have had a better place to get married!
Our experience at The Abbey this past weekend for my daughter's wedding could not have been better. Prompt and thorough communication before and during the event, positive, kind and efficient service, and the knock-out beauty of the venue inside and out made for a fabulous weekend celebration. We highly recommend The Abbey Inn and Spa!
I cannot say enough wonderful things about the Abbey Inn & Spa and the staff there! We had our wedding there last Saturday, and it was more beautiful than we ever could have imagined. The weather did not go to our original plan but the amazing staff seamlessly transitioned our ceremony indoors to the gorgeous Cornerstone room and we wouldn't have had any other way. This change in plans worked out better than we ever could have expected. Gina Bonacci, the wedding coordinator at the Abbey whom we had the pleasure of planning our special day with, was the most calming presence and gave the most attention to detail in every aspect of our day. The Abbey is one of the most gorgeous places we've ever had the pleasure of seeing, and we have so much love and gratitude for being able to have our wedding there. We truly cannot put into words what a special day it was but we feel truly blessed that we were able to start our forever at the Abbey Inn & Spa.
We had the most spectacular Memorial Day Wedding Weekend @ The Abbey Inn and Spa. The venue itself is beautiful, the grounds are equally stunning and this venue has a happy dose of history and charm . Our daughters wedding was magical - the food was truly fabulous, and everything ran like a top from the ceremony in the chapel on our very rainy day to the cocktail hour and reception ! Gina the director of catering was very attentive to all the details from start to finish making sure that all was well for our bride, groom, bridal party, vendors and our families too . I can’t say enough about our experience from the accommodations, the wait staff , bartenders, and housekeeping staff too ! Bravo to Gina & The Abbey Inn and Spa for helping us create a beautiful day and wonderful memories to cherish !
Working with Gina was absolutely amazing! We had many, MANY questions that we kept asking her, months leading up to the wedding, and she was super responsive and helpful every time. The day of the wedding she was amazing and we felt so assured that someone was keeping us all on track. The Abbey is an absolutely beautiful location for a wedding, and all of our guests had an amazing time!
If you are looking for gorgeous views, top tier service, and world class cuisine, look no further! The Abbey is a hidden gem, bridging Westchester and The Hudson Valley. I am so grateful that we found them for our wedding. It is in a great location and is an excellent option for West Point cadets or couples looking to escape the city for a classy and upscale event. The Director of Catering, Weddings, and Events is Gina Bonacci and she is awesome! I had a fairytale wedding experience and I cannot recommend The Abbey enough.
We found this venue while searching for historical spaces for our Sunday brunch wedding local to us in Westchester NY. The overhaul of the location was beautifully done and expertly refreshed without the team losing any of the charm or sacred historical relevance of the building.
From the onset, Gina Bonacci was highly responsive and accommodating to our questions and requests. Her attention to detail and thoroughness in planning out the day and surrounding timeline was highly appreciated. She was very mindful of planning objectives and tracking everything of any significance. Negotiations and contracts were easy to navigate and simple to understand.
On the day prior to and of our Wedding, Gina served as the coordinator, timekeeper and utility player. She was responsive and on top of everything we needed. The entire staff was a pleasure to work with and accommodating. Everyone from the hotel desk staff and cleaning team, servers, bartenders, valet and line cooks were all professional and courteous.
Anna and I could not recommend the venue or the team there more. The day was beautiful, simple and elegant just as we were looking for. The rooms were clean and well maintained and the food and drinks were fresh, tasty and well prepared.
We look forward to anniversary meals, spa days and future events at the venue.
The Abbey Inn was the perfect venue for my wife and I to celebrate our new marriage. It is at a beautiful location right off the Hudson River (great for pictures, even in the middle of winter) that is easily accessible right off route 9/Croton Expy.
It is a very classical setting being that the building used to be an old Monastery, and the reception hall is in an old church. This helps to create a very dramatic atmosphere, which will be sure to wow both yourselves and your guests. The high ceilings only add to this classical/dramatic feeling, as well as the high arching windows. We had our sweetheart table at the front of the hall, so it was as if a king and queen were having a royal dinner. Being able to enjoy a delicious dinner and take a minute to see the joy and excitement on your guests' faces is an awesome thing to be able to see, which is possible being slightly elevated at the head of the hall where we were.
The food was PHENOMENAL AND DELICIOUS. The chef here really knows their stuff, as all the dishes from salads to the short rib were amazing. Only regret I have is missing part of the cocktail hour and not having the ability to try all of the food available.
Gina (Wedding Coordinator/Director at the Abbey) was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable in guiding us through the process of setting everything up in the months leading up to the event. She is incredibly experienced and it shows. Any questions, emails, or calls were answered right away. She was also incredibly helpful in setting up the welcome table and other locations around the venue for our wedding, and remembered what everything was for (I had arrived with about 4-5 boxes and bags of random goods the afternoon prior to check in and such). She is an incredible coordinator and an even better person. She even gave us a list of vendors to get lunch from since we wanted to be able to feed our bridal party members between the ceremony and reception.
The rest of the crew/team at the Abbey were incredible as well. The wait staff was attentive to guests, food was served quick and efficiently, bartenders were great with pouring drinks and keeping the good times flowing as well. Front desk personnel were attentive in checking guests in and out and answering questions that they had.
The bridal suite was amazing, as it comes with a large bathroom, bedroom/living room area, and a large covered patio. We actually got lucky in that no one had the other suite, so we were upgraded to essentially a mega suite to have an extra bedroom. This worked out as our favorite soccer club had a championship final on our wedding day (in between ceremony & reception), and were able to turn one of the beds into a couch for a viewing party of 10-15 guests in the suite!
Also, for couples that get married there, you get a free night one year later to celebrate your anniversary! We are looking forward to the night already, as the Abbey was that amazing, and we can't wait to stay there again!
We actually just held our daughter's wedding here, and used 5 rooms. The architecture and gardens are absolutely stunning. The food is amazing, filet mignon, branzino, etc. The rooms are beautiful. The people who work there are friendly and helpful. They even did the entire wedding gluten-free. We loved everything about The Abbey.
- We had the ceremony in the Cornerstone room, photos outdoors overlooking the Hudson, cocktail hour on The Bluff, the reception in the Highlands ballroom, the rehearsal dinner in the Grand Terrace, and the farewell breakfast in the Hudson room. The couple stayed in the bridal suite, which included a separate sitting room and a large balcony. All rooms were beautiful. Everyone especially loved the Cornerstone room, which is hand-painted with Latin words and saints. The Highlands ballroom looks like a castle.
- The entire wedding was gluten-free, which is difficult, but they were very accommodating to our needs. They also were careful of other special diets.
- We also had a handicap-accessible room for grandparents, and it was the most beautiful handicap room anyone had ever seen. It had a large balcony with table and rocking chairs, walk-in shower, and low bed.
- The people there were very helpful. At breakfast, a waitress told our guests the history of the hand-painted cornerstone room. It was painted by a nun, who continued painting until she was 89. The room was restored several years ago, and restored by hand. A man who helped set up the ballroom told us the history of the hotel and the ballroom also. It was built in 1872 and was an abbey for 100 years. It was meticulously restored from about 2017-2020, and opened in March 2020 - right at the start of covid. Everyone seems to really love the place. The wedding & events specialist worked closely with us, and was by our side throughout the weekend.
- Even if you are just going there for a weekend, lunch, or dinner, this is a fabulous place. It even has a happy hour with burgers, ricotta toast, and half-price drinks. It is such a beautiful place, it truly looks like a European castle, or Abbey. It is a gem in New York!!!
The facility, grounds, and views are stunning.
We hosted our event in the Grand Terrace, which was entirely outdoors but also had a protective event tent available. Food was great, service was prompt, professional and excellent.
We had our son's wedding encore brunch at the Abbey Inn. It was delightful! The setting was picture-perfect. We had an outdoor event -- our guests enjoyed strolling the grounds and admiring the gorgeous views. The brunch buffet was great, lots of variety. Everyone commented how delicious the food was. There were plenty of tables set up for the guests comfort, under the tent and around the grounds. The staff was attentive and accommodating. It was a beautiful afternoon, we couldn't have asked for more.
The Abbey was under construction when we booked it in November 2019. We were driving up Rt. 9 and saw the property, took a shot in the dark and got a hold of Eileen. Her vision for The Abbey and the outcome is stunning.
We are in the middle of getting this thing of the ground and were so looking forward to our tasting. We had the opportunity to speak with Executive Chef Jared at the tasting and you can tell how passionate he is about his craft. We had a great experience and his food is out of this world and from The Abbeys Garden!
Our celebration as a whole will be well worth the 2 year wait!
We booked our wedding in July of 2020 and really had no idea what summer of 2021 would look like. Aside from the beautiful grounds, and ballroom, one of the selling points of The Abbey was that Eileen was so confident and promised to help us have the wedding of our dreams no matter the circumstances.
Our wedding turned out to be an absolutely perfect day. The food was delicious and plentiful. Everyone we know has commented on how this was not typical “wedding food” it was incredible. We also didn’t have to worry about a thing. Eileen and the team took care of everything, when I walked into the ballroom that night I couldn’t believe how perfect it was. We will be reliving this day over and over again!
My daughter's wedding at The Abbey Inn and Spa was absolutely beautiful! The food was delicious, plated and served beautifully. I can not thank, Eileen , Gilbert, Laura (HR), Chef Jared and Johnny (head waiter) enough. It was spectacular.
Due to COVID, our original venue unfortunately had cancelled our June 12, 2021 wedding and we were directed to The Abbey as an option. When they say everything happens for a reason, it is true! When you arrive at The Abbey, not only are you amazed by the gorgeous Hudson River/ mountain views, but you are immersed in pure magic! When we were planning our wedding, we wanted our guests to feel like they were transported to the Amalfi Coast and The Abbey did just that. It is not like any other venue in the Hudson Valley - it is a little bit of old with a modern spin. The ballroom is stunning, the food is incredible, but the most important piece to The Abbey is their wonderful staff. Not only was Eileen and her team extremely accommodating (we have tons of food allergies, etc.), they truly go out of their way to ensure your day is special. Eileen is attentive, professional, and a joy to work with. She will ensure that everything you want is there and that everything is executed perfectly. We are so happy that we had our June wedding at The Abbey. Like our guests keep saying - it was THE BEST wedding ever!
You can still have the wedding of your dreams during a pandemic and The Abbey Inn & Spa, specifically their events director Eileen helped us accomplish that.
Eileen and Executive Chef John were 100% transparent with what could and could not be accomplished when we were scouting venues. Not only were they honest they were creative in how we could make our wedding beautiful and memorable during a time when most couples were pushing their weddings into the following year. We had to accept that a traditional cocktail hour and dancing were two things we would have to forego in order to comply with the current state guidelines. around COVID whereas other venues within a 20 mile radius were quoting things I knew they could not pull off legally and without compromising the health of our guests.
I did not hire a wedding planner but Eileen sure did take on that role. As a COVID bride nothing is more important than communication. Eileen didn't miss a beat and handled each request/concern I had no matter how large or small with professionalism and class.
Let's talk about the food! Our guests are still raving about how full they are and how delicious the menu was. With a guest list where 50% was vegetarian and the balance true carnivores Executive Chef John and Chef Jared found a way to please everyone. I still don't truly know how they pulled that off but they did and flawlessly.
The day of staff from our bartenders, wait staff, F&B director were a pleasure to work with. They were all so sweet and beyond accommodating. They went above and beyond to not only ensure my husband and I were content but also did this for our guests.
There are many beautiful venues in this area which we scouted out but at the end of day I chose the Abbey Inn & Spa because of Eileen. Working with her was like planning my wedding with my mom. I fully trusted her, her taste is impeccable, she's brutally honest and she's an expert. I won't write too much about the grounds because you can see by the pictures how gorgeous the venue is. The photo's don't even do this place justice. The landscaping is magical. When we were exchanging vows under the gazebo, overlooking the Hudson river at almost sunset I was mesmerized by the view and had to remind myself to pay attention! A few days later I asked my husband if I could read his vow book because I truly blanked out as I was paying attention to the view and not him!
Thank you Eileen and the rest of The Abbey staff for truly giving us the wedding of our dreams during a time when the world is in disarray. We are still in awe of how truly beautiful our wedding day was. We owe that all to you.
My husband and I got married at the abbey yesterday. 10/10/20 . It was everything and more !!!! The staff was absolutely incredible! The service was amazing !! All of our guests loved the food !! Everything from beginning to end was just perfection . Without Eileen Whitney this wouldn’t have been possible !
Gilbert , Rebecca , and Mike were absolutely incredible! All of them treated us like family . And you can’t get any better than that . We are forever grateful! Thank you so much !!!
We got married at The Abbey Inn & Spa September 2020, and it was amazing!! Everything turned out beautifully, and we couldn't have wished for a more perfect day. They were able to take on our last minute micro wedding, and the Director, Eileen, was so kind and accommodating. She was so responsive from the day I reached out to her, extremely patient, and worked closely with us to make sure the day turned out exactly the way we wanted it to. The staff at the Inn were all so polite, friendly, and helpful during our stay. The rooms/suites at the Abbey are also lovely, and the view of the Hudson River from this location is stunning! If you get married here, you won't regret it!
Not only are the grounds and the views amazing, but the coordinator, Eileen, is literally superhuman. Not only did she work with me and ease my concerns and answer questions nearly everyday before my wedding but she made the day stress free. The power went out the morning of my wedding right as hair and makeup arrived. Eileen spoke to everyone she needed and got it back on within an hour when they originally quoted her two. She blocked people from bothering me on my wedding and set everything up exactly how I asked. She put us in touch with the head chef, John, who is just incredible, and made sure everything we wanted was done. Also, The Abbey made planning and executing a wedding during covid so painless. Eileen kept pivoting the plans as guidelines and ordinances changed, and allowed us to hold our small wedding with social distancing and we’re having an “encore” reception next year. I don’t even have the words to express how perfect everything was. I would give this place a thousand stars if I could.
The Abby Inn and Spa - Eileen, Chef John and Jimmy
From the moment you arrive the service is impeccable. No detail is left undone. Outstanding Professionalism, ( Eileen - event mgr’s attention to detail second to none) where every effort is made to understand your Event, the importance of it , and their goal to make it a day like no other. Chef John is Outstanding. Food was 5 Star, tasting was amazing, full menu was at our offering, each coarse done with you in mind, and the flavor profiles were a dinning experience like no other.
My fiance and I were looking for a truly special, one of a kind, wedding venue and found that The Abbey Inn and Spa not only meets, but exceeds, all of our wedding wishes. The Abbey offers beautiful views of the Hudson, professional and caring staff and phenomenal food choices all in a historic Abbey that has been impeccably renovated. There is no detail that has been missed!
Eileen is wonderful and has worked with us closely every step of the way. Her experience and professionalism sets her apart from most others. Chef John is also a pleasure to work with and took the time to meet with us to select a menu ensuring that our guests will be savoring their meals long after our wedding is over.
Even during such unprecedented times, we know that Eileen John will make our day a memory that my fiance and I, along with all of our family and guests, will always treasure!
The Abbey truly is a one of a kind venue. We visited countless other wedding venues and nothing compares to the beauty and uniqueness of The Abbey. We never knew it was possible to feel like we were a world away while being so close to the City. It’s very apparent that a great deal of thought was put into the restoration of the 1890s convent and chapel, turning it into a beautiful escape. Also, the views of the Hudson River are breathtaking, especially during a sunset.
Working with Eileen has been an all-around great experience. She is transparent, responsive, and takes the time to talk through the details. Especially while planning and re-planning a wedding during this uncertain time, we couldn’t have asked for anyone better to work with. She is extremely creative and thinks outside the box, using her experience and building on the vision you have for your big day.
Now, onto the food. Chef John Paidas is incredible, so much thought has been put into the menu. Meticulous attention to the details, from the flavors to the plating – everything has been considered. Our tasting was one to remember and we can’t wait to celebrate our big day at The Abbey with great food, family and friends!
Eileen has been wonderful. She goes above and beyond for her clients! We had a tasting and the food is phenomenal. They have a great team. The views are breathtaking!
Eileen has been an amazing help in assisting with our wedding planning. She has been kind, honest, and enjoyable to be around. She has made our wedding planning exciting and as stress-reducing as possible! She has provided unlimited tours of her venue, with no questions asked. It’s very evident how much she loves her job and her energy lights up a room. Eileen has true passion and talent that makes her stand out in her profession
