ication and the schedule they created for the day of was so organized (I am a planner-type, so this was very comforting for me). Amanda was such a kind, genuine, and calm presence and my whole bridal party loved her. I love that she was able to meet us at the hotel to start in the morning and then was able to transfer to the venue to finish up later in the day. Not to mention my hair and makeup stayed put even in the Florida humidity and through getting rain poured on me! I cannot recommend Destiny and Light, and Amanda, enough! Book them NOW!

ving responses at all. The stress & time spent on this company has negatively impacted my wedding experience.
In March I signed the contract and booked Destiny & Light for my wedding in Sep. I pre-paid for the trial run and sent an email with a few questions. They answered some but not all q's so I sent another email following up on those q's, requesting an itemized receipt & asking about scheduling the trial run. I live out of state so was hoping to time it with a trip I had planned to the area for my engagement pics. I asked if they could do the morning of my engagement pics, acknowledging it would be early & understanding if I needed to pick a different time. I also called & left voicemails. After a month of no response to those emails/voicemails I sent another email since my engagement pics were a few weeks away and I just needed a direct answer. Still no response so I called and managed to speak to someone who texted me the itemized receipt and said he would check on if they could do the trial run then, advising he would call back and I could also text him if I needed anything. I waited two days & received no call & no response to my text asking for an update, so I emailed them yet again. In that email I politely expressed my frustration and concern with the lack of communication and reliability. I also called and left messages, but still I received no email response or phone call for a month. However I did receive a strange email separate from our email chain asking if my wedding plans had changed as they received another request for the same day & wanted to try to fit it in, which I found extremely unprofessional even if I hadn't had these ongoing issues with them. After receiving that email I sent this email: "Hello, Seeing as it has been almost a month since I sent the above email and have still received no response, I'm taking this as a message you do not care about keeping me as a customer. The neglect & disregard you have shown me is extremely disappointing & I do not feel comfortable moving forward with you. I would like to end our contract & request that you return the $488.25 deposit I paid. Please let me know when I can expect that refund. Thank you." Can you guess what happened next? No response! I sent another email & no response.
I called & managed to get the owner on the phone. She was apologetic & non-defensive, which I appreciated. She offered to refund everything or do my HMU for free if I chose to stay but I had already booked another HMU company. I'm so glad I did not take her up on that offer because it's 2 mos later & I still have not received the full refund, reinforcing that I made the right decision in choosing not to use them. After having to follow up twice about the refund (it had been 15 business days since I was supposed to receive it) I did eventually get a refund, but it was not the full amount. I emailed them asking to refund the remainder & no response for two weeks so I called them and spoke to a man who said he would have to check with the owner to make sure they could refund the rest and promised he would call me back the following day. Of course I received no call. I waited another day & sent another email. I STILL have not been refunded the full amount.

All 3 staff members we worked with did an amazing job and helped all of our party members look their best for our big day. They were also fun and felt like part of the party as we were getting ready. lented at what they do. We had Amanda, Jackie, and Sarah and we could not be happier with our hair and makeup results the day of the wedding. They made everyone look beautiful and flawless. They were on time, professional, and lovely to work with. Cons:
1) The forms/paperwork: The company makes you fill out a lot of online forms and paperwork to answer questions. Some of it is necessary, but some of it was a waste of time, and it seems as if they didn't even read it. The forms will force you to answer questions that may not be applicaple and force you to upload photos for things that don't apply. They also have outdated information on their website and forms about covid-19 procedures, which is annoying. 2) Lack of communication: I signed a contract with the company about 4 months before my wedding and communication was extremely difficult the entire time. If I had a questions or needed to change my appointment for a trial it was very hard to get in touch with them. If you call no one answers. It takes several days to get a response. 3) Unprofessional company/owners: They never sent me a schedule/details about the day of my wedding. I reached out to them via email about 3 weeks before my wedding. I wasn't getting a response so I had to text Amanda about it. When they sent me the schedule they only gave us 2 artists and had us starting to get ready at 7:00am for a 5:00pm ceremony. I also stated in the forms that I filled out for them that we are not allowed to arrive to our venue any early than 9am (they clearly never read it). When I reached out to them and told them it was ridiculous and didn't work for us. They said we would have to start getting ready that morning at a different location (which they expected me to provide) and then we would relocate to the venue. Again, I was extremely mad and upset that they would be telling me this 2.5 weeks out from my wedding. I told them that we were not prepared for that and should have been notified much sooner if that was the case. The owner called me and I explained the situation and that I was not happy about it. He said they found a 3rd makeup artist for our wedding party, but that we would have to pay the $150 fee for the extra artist. I told him that I did not agree with that at all. I understand that it is in their paperwork that they charge that for an extra artist, but nowhere in their paperwork or website does it give any information about how many artists they typically send for a certain amount of services so I had no idea how many my wedding party would need and they never informed me. If we required an extra artist they just should have notified me much sooner and I would have been happy to pay the fee. Their paperwork says that they will work with you to get the schedule and artists that you need, but that is not what happened in this case at all. He agreed to give me 50% off of the $150 fee. However, when they charged my card they charged me the full fee + tax and a 18% gratuity. When they refunded, they refunded exactly $75 instead of refunding 50% so basically I stilled paid the tax and 18% gratuity for the $150 charge, which I also think is BS, but it wasn't worth saying anything to them about it.
The services they provided were great, however, the communication/customer service was horrible, especially right at the end. Long story short, since nobody got back to me via email/phone/text/etc., I ended up having to text the stylist the day...
before my wedding to make sure they knew the time frame that they had to get everyone's hair and makeup done. They basically told me that they would do their best to get everyone done in time. That being said, they had plenty of time to get everyone done and they did great work, just not great communication.

I was excited that my initial request (a filled out form online) was met with an immediate response e-mail, until I realized that every subsequent e-mail I sent would also be responded with the "WELCOME !!!! (insert huge e-mail lots of colors with outdated information )" robot form. It was initially off putting because the referred to "robot e-mail" stated that "BUSY SEASON - Tuesday - Friday 10 AM TO 4 P.M - LIMITED HOURS!!!! PLEASE NOTE WE WILL NOT ANSWER CALLS OR EMAILS OUTSIDE OF THESE HOURS. YOU CAN REQUEST A SCHEDULED CALL OUTSIDE OF THOSE HOURS AND WE WILL WORK TO ACCOMODATE. PLEASE NOTE OFFICE HOURS DO NOT AFFECT SCHEDULE TRIAL RUNS AND WEDDINGS. " However, I had done my research and I really wanted to have this hairstyle and this was the place to go. After I finally got a hold of a human we were able to schedule a trial I received multiple e-mails "did you get our e-mail we want to talk to you". I had hoped that responding would stop the auto-emailing but it did not. The studio is nice, clean, cute. I was offered a drink when I got there. The trial went well, like I said I liked my stylist. We got to the time to make a schedule, I was told that 2 stylists would be coming to my get ready room. I changed the "schedule" to suite my bridesmaids schedules as well as to fit in with makeup. The stylists arrived on time, happy, professional. But that is where it ends. My stylist lets call her "B" I had met at the trial, and the other stylist lets call her "S" came with her. According to the original schedule provided by the salon "S" was to complete all of my bridesmaids hair (1/2 up 1/2 down as known ahead of time), and "B" was supposed to do mine, and a few of the matron blow-outs. It was very obvious almost immediately that "S" was a brand new stylist, asking "B" what products to use for a blow out, what size brush and ignoring the client (my mother in law) when she specified that her hair was fine and needed extra help. My mother in laws 50 min blow out fell almost immediately. "S" was trusted only to assist, by curling the hair for all of the styles. 2 of my 4 bridesmaids had burnt hair. This left all the styling, My 2 hour style and 6 other styles to "B", which just set her up for failure. I reached out to the company since 1 service was not rendered (flight troubles), both blow outs fell and were redone by the clients themselves, and 2 of 5 up do's had burnt hair. I got a human email and was told that it would be forwarded to the owner, 3 weeks later I reached out again after not being contacted, I was again not answered. Over 50% of the services ($400+ in services) were unsatisfactory. Nothing was done in an attempt to rectify this situation and as a bride it made me feel awful. 1) I felt awful that my friends and family paid money for unsatisfactory services 2) I felt bad for the stylists mainly "B" who was responsible for 12+ hairstyles ultimately by herself. "S" was nice and was trying, but just was not up to par on skills to be responsible for 1/2 of the styles for an event. Very Very unhappy, Book if you have to but know what you are getting into. 2 e-mail attempts and no response as of 2 months post event.

We had hair and makeup done for 8 people in total (bride, 5 bridesmaids, and 2 moms). Unfortunately due to a family emergency Ashley was not able to be my hair and makeup artist on my wedding day BUT Jeanie reached out to me early that morning to let me know and tell me they were sending out another person in her place. Emma did all our makeup and wow is she amazing! She is a sweet heart and her love for doing make up really shines through in her work. She was able to recreate my makeup from my trial with Ashley from pictures that were shared with her from the trial. Jackie and Rene did an a beautiful job on hair and styled it so despite Florida weather it lasted all day and night! Jackie did my hair which is hard to keep a curl but my curls were still intact at the end of the night even after dancing in our open air venue. Between our three HMU artists all of us were ready on time as schedule to proceed with pictures. I 100% recommend using Destiny and Light after getting to work with them previously as a bridesmaid and now as a bride.

I was sent a schedule with start times for myself and each of my bridesmaids prior to the wedding day, which was very helpful. Amanda arrived on time bright and early, and finished all of us on time. I know nothing about makeup so I didn't really have a vision for what wanted but Amanda was able to do her thing and we were all extremely pleased with the final looks. Girls were not very friendly and when my bridesmaids asked for their hair to be fixed or their makeup they had attitude. I tried calling and they said they would call me back after they figured it out and still never heard back and I asked to speak to Priscilla and still nothing. VERY DISAPPOINTED.
Absolutely not happy. Did a trial run, the day of they sent ladies who were not involved in our trial, never seen the end results of our trial. Showed up with absolutely no clue of what they were doing. Very, very disappointed.

My hair, which is naturally curly and always stays in beautiful curls, turned into a knotted frizzy mess within an hour. I’m sure this is just because of the artist they sent because I know they have so many talented artists, I should have just listened to my gut after my trial. No hard feelings to this vendor at all, but I just can’t in good faith give them a 5 star review.

e were things after the fact that I did not like. I had sent an email and explained the issues I had and never heard anything back. I had booked my wedding and paid the deposit on the day of the trial. Due to Covid my wedding had to be rescheduled as it was originally planned on a cruise ship. When we had to move the date and venue, the fees I was expected to pay were to go up more than $150 as I was now expected to pay $150 for a travel fee plus I was informed that I would have to pay for a hotel room for them. I was told I would have to pay for a hotel room due to the start time, even though this was the same start time they would have previously had. I explained that with these additional fees it would no longer be in my budget to stay booked with them. I was really hoping to at least receive part of my deposit back as I needed the money to find a new makeup and hair artist. It took a while to receive responses back from them and I was informed that because it is in the contract I would not be receiving anything back. I understand that in normal situations that the deposit would be held but unfortunately it was not up to us to move the date or location, it was due to the pandemic that the whole world is facing. When the wedding was cancelled again and we chose to schedule an on land venue, the coordinator recommended them if I didn't have someone already but I refuse to go back to them as they were not willing to help out in this situation at all.

mmodate your request. Because we have clients that book us 1 sometimes 2 years in advance of their wedding date we only have update prices in the salon software system. We have a contract that provides clients all the information that they need to make an informed decision prior to retaining our services. We understand the effects that COVID has had for our clients as well as our on industry and we have been and are still working hard to help our clients with changes as best we can. 1. The Major Fact that you left out of your review was that your original venue was in tampa, but your new venue is on the other coast of Florida in Cape Canaveral which is 172 miles from your original location. This is more than 5 hours of driving and over 344 miles of total travel that our team of professionals would have to make to provide a service to you and your bridal party adding to that we would still need to have you all ready by 9:30am. So yes there would be a travel fee associated with the new appointment and because of the distance, and yes you would be required to pay for a hotel stay for our team because of the timing. 2. The parameters for your reschedule appointment are not the same as the parameters of your original contract , therefore please understand that our charge will always reflect the services that we provide. It's unfair and unrealistic for you to believe that the additional charges were not warranted based on the changes that you made. Please don't use COVID as an excuse to squeeze small business and not properly compensate your service providers for their time. We are all in this together and we were willing to work with you but you were not being reasonable. We hire professionals to provide our clients with outstanding service and experience, and we pray that anyone who utilizes our services or the services of any other wedding and event professional will just treat them fairly. of the reviews for Destiny and Light were nothing but amazing. But what sealed the deal for me was looking at the social media of our photography company. Almost every wedding posted by them – the vendor chosen for hair and makeup was Destiny and Light. I’m glad I followed the lead of these brides!
I contacted the company and less than a day later had a congratulations email for my engagement with quotes for service. For the artwork they do, the prices are great. I wanted to book my date, so I filled out the information for the contract and scheduled my Bride Trial. Their studio is not too far from where I live, and my trial took place just as Covid was being discovered here before all the lockdowns.
I was paired with Angel. In my opinion, that’s exactly what she is – an angel. I had an idea of what hairstyle I wanted, sort of a braid crown updo, but I just did not like my hair as a braid. Angel was super patient, and as we discussed my dress, we agreed a sleek updo would look beautiful as a whole. In all, it was 12 total services (hair and makeup) for 6 people.
On the wedding day, our timeline required the bridal party to be ready by 2pm so our beauty session started at 8:30am. Angel and Melissa were right on time. Angel focused on the hair for all the ladies while Melissa applied our makeup. We had great conversation and they both were so patient and kind to my Maid of Honor’s daughter (3.5 years old) and sometimes a handful. She normally never lets anyone touch her hair, but she wanted to look like a princess too, so Angel graciously offered to curl her hair. Our hearts melted.
Everyone looked like a million bucks, and I felt so stunningly beautiful for my special day. I even had a friend tell me at the reception that after seeing all of us, she was going to consider them for her own wedding. In all, Destiny and Light were communicative and prompt. Angel and Melissa are two of the kindest people I’ve had the pleasure to meet and are truly artists in this industry.

irdressers backing out last minute. However, it was working with them leading up to the wedding that was quite difficult. First, I had told them multiple times I sent them a check for the deposit, yet they still charged my card that they required to be kept on file. It took about a month and multiple chains of emails for them to refund the card that was charged. Then it came time for me to schedule a makeup trial. Again after multiple attempts to email, call, and text them, I questioned the value of spending more money with them to have the trial done. I finally decided to get my wedding planner involved in order for someone to contact me to schedule a trial. They do communicate well when it comes to emergencies though. The night before the wedding, I received a text at about 10PM asking if I were available to take a phone call. Although I couldn't take the call, they texted me to let me know that the artist who did my trial had a medical emergency (extremely understandable! But still slightly stressful since she knew what I wanted from the trial run!) They reassured me by saying the new artist was sent all of the pictures, and while the final product was not exactly how it was after the trial, the artist still did a great job! Even under a time crunch, I was pleased with the outcome! When it came to hair, I had 4 girls getting their hair done with D&L, 2 brought pictures of what they envisioned for a half up half down look and the other 2 just wanted what the stylist thought would look good. All 4 ended up having basically the same style. Which was fine, but not what they all wanted. In the end, the stylists showed up early, were extremely professional, and ready to work, (they saved us again, when the hairstylist we had there doing one of the bridesmaids could not work on braids and D&L finished the style for her!) which was very much appreciated. I do not regret hiring Destiny and Light, and as you can see I have mixed emotions about them, but I think the main point here is that they made the planning process more stressful than I would have liked.

They took the time to get to know me and my styling preferences. Jackie chose shades that really complemented my skin tone and accented my dress, and my makeup lasted through my afternoon ceremony and beyond the reception – a heroic feat, since it was a July beach wedding and I tend to sweat easily. ehearsal dinner enjoying dinner with close friends and family who were in town. Three weeks before our wedding, Angel had side conversations with one member of my bridal party about hair and makeup services but never communicated it with staff since they were putting my makeup timeline together, so there ended up being conflict with scheduling which resulted to having to move around my wedding makeup timeline four times.
The day of our wedding I had to have three of my bridesmaids redo their look because the base they were using was too light. I specifically asked that they bring an array of tones because my bridal party were from all shades of color Caucasian skin, Hispanic, and Black. Doesn’t seem they were able to switch up seamlessly because my darker bridesmaids ended up looking washed out. I asked kindly three times to look at my bridal vision and go by that not by what they wanted. I also had to remind them to go by the makeup timeline because it seemed that they were going off script, so I reminded them again kindly. This shouldn’t have been something I had to deal with on my wedding day especially because this was a large wedding and there were so many things to worry about besides hair and makeup. The girls hair didn’t last at all the side buns fell off by mid of the wedding. I had one makeup artist station herself on the right hand side I still don’t know her name. She didn’t seem to know what she was doing, on top of that she wasn’t kind and had an air of attitude about her.
FYI an 18% tip is automatically included in the entire service so we didn’t have a say of how much we wanted to tip them. This isn’t mentioned initially. I found this very odd, but okay. Another issue I found was the makeup artist were up selling my girls they didn’t care that the services were already selected. “Traditional Makeup” but they stood their convincing my girls on our Wedding Day to go with the airbrush instead which then caused issues because they were asking for cash. No one had cash. All of this wasn’t in the plan.
Needless to say the managers at the office were very kind hence why my review isn’t worse.
This is why it’s important for companies to know who they’re sending out to weddings because they’re the face of your business and it can break or make you. I wouldn’t recommend them for a big wedding perhaps for a small wedding but it’s important to speak to every makeup artist who gets assigned to you so that everyone is on the same page which is a shame because that’s why you have a lead makeup artist to communicate these things and keep things in order. So if the lead makeup artist does not have her stuff together nor would the rest of them will. I am not sure who was responsible of this but I am very disappointed. Not good quality and what makes it worse was the professionalism of the makeup artist that makes things even more terrible.

If someone wanted a small change in their hair style or makeup, the D&L girls had no problem fixing it and making sure we were satisfied. They arrived early, were so sweet, easy to get along with, understood our vision, and truly did a fantastic job. The wedding was a vintage/Hollywood glam theme, and hair and makeup definitely knocked it out of the park! The girls were very patient with us, even while we were a bit stressed and feeling rushed, they fit us all in and made sure we all shined, and finished on time! went from just me, to my Mom and MOH and me, to finally 6 of us with one added 2 hours before the wedding when one of the originals decided against makeup last minute.
I threw so many last minute changes at this poor girl and she just went with the flow. My venue didn't let us in on time to set up so Vanessa juggled times around so we could get it decorated. I added flowers to my hair 5 minutes before she was done with it. I added a veil last minute. I also changed the colors from what we did at the run through. That girl just smiled and made it work. I'm an older bride and was worried I would look old with makeup like that on (I don't typically wear anything but mascara and lip gloss) but I looked vibrant and natural, even out in the bright sun (I got married on the beach).
AND Vanessa was sick. She was struggling with dehydration and severe morning sickness. So much so her body had been cramping severely the night before. She selflessly called her doctor that evening to figure out how to be her best for me the next day. And she was. You'd never know how sick that poor girl was. She smiled, made conversation and was pleasant all day - even as issues came up with the venue and we ran late. She was cool as steel and made everything work. But most importantly she made me feel special and beautiful.
I can't recommend this group enough. I'm a former hairdresser and makeup artist myself - my specialty was weddings so I know what good looks like. Everyone at this company was amazing. Seriously. Look no further, this is the one.

had no record of her. She got frustrated and hung up. How could a company that deals with something so important as a wedding drop the ball like that. Initially we decided we didn’t want to do business with a company that unorganized, but after more thought, we decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and call them back to rebook. The earliest they had now was Nov 15th which was pushing it. We were scared if we didn’t like their work, we’d be stuck and not have much time to find someone else. The wedding is Dec 21st.
After giving them a second chance, today they called my fiancé and cancelled the appointment with nothing earlier to reschedule for. My fiancé is stressing out and we are now scrambling to find another company for makeup and hair. I just don’t understand how much of a mess they seem like for a company that deals with peoples weddings. It blows my mind. Needless to say, I’m hoping we find another company and are able to get a trail run before it gets too close to the wedding. We are coming up in the 30 window soon.

r voice because the client was freaking out as she was planning last minute. The owner preceded to inform her that he would make an exception for her as her bridal party would not meet the minimum for our services, he also told her that the trial run does not secure the date and recommended that she secure her date as soon as possible so she would not have to be stressed out over hair and makeup services. He also provided her a trial run guarantee that if she did not like anything all or was not 100% satisfied with the trial that he would comp her a free session until they got the look right. A date was discussed but never agreed upon as the client said that she would get back to us after speaking with her fiancé. The call back to confirm never came.
Below please find our complete communication log with the bride client Sheyla. We have maintained consistent communication with her and additionally were making arrangements to work with her although she did not meet the minimum for a Friday wedding due to her bridesmaids not being able to afford makeup. Again We didn’t want her to be stressed or affected by that, so the owner to waive the minimum for her so she could proceed with the appointment. The only reason for the cancelation of the trial run was because the artist has a death in the family and in that same call to inform the bride of this we also provided rescheduling options for her in the following week. There was no indication of a problem, for if there was we would have attempted to accommodate the client before we got off the phone.
We understand that planning a wedding can be very stressful, and even more so we you are planning at the last minute. I’m sorry about your perception of what happened but our communication system is completely online so that we can keep track of communication with clients to keep us on top of things, so that we can avoid situations like this.

11/6/18 - D&L also replies that we have actually the trial run date confirmed as 11/15/18 and trial run things to know email was sent. )We were initially were looking into the 8th but the stylist was open on the 15th). The 11/15/18 trial run date was also confirmed over the phone with the bride
11/12/18 - D&L calls bride to inform her that her scheduled artist had a death in the family and she wouldn’t be available 11/15/18 but she would be available on 11/20/18 at 6:00 pm and if that doesn’t work we would do something more convenient for her. She said that she would check her schedule and give us a call back and let us know if that wouldn't work. She did not give any indication that there was an issue. Furthermore before we hung up the phone we reiterated that of that date did not work we could readjust and assign a different artist if need be.
11/12/18 - No reply from the bride, only a bad review posted on Facebook and theknot.com by her fiancé whom we have never been in contact with
